Kernal ??

Is it necessary to flash a Kernal after flashing a custom rom ?
I am thinking of flashing CM 9 or Liquid Rom. Which is the best kernal to flash with them.

-The correct spelling is kernel.
-It is not necessary to flash a new kernel with a rom. In general roms will package the stock kernel unless they note otherwise.
-I am personally a fan of leankernel because of the mission statement behind its development and the accessibility and speed of its update cycle.

Nope. Custom roms have kernels included, so you are not required to download a separate kernel. However, some kernels run better (ie, more fluid, less heat, reboots, etc) than others on the same device. It all depends on the silicon in your phone. If you plan to run cm9, I recommend sticking with the default kernel. If you're going with Liquid, use imoseyon's leankernel (the default) or franco kernels.
Edit: BTW, I highly recommend franco's kernel app, especially if you are new to the scene. It can download & install either franco or imoseyon kernels, making kernel flashing stupid easy. It also lets you overclock & undervolt, change governors and tweak color settings. And it is the easiest way to keep up with nightly/experimental builds. Not to mention it shows your support and encourages more development.

Latest milestone is the most stable. Nightlies are experimental. And no need to wipe.

Liquid + franco is a great choice. Liquid is an extremely polished rom. Very, very smooth with absolutely ZERO lag (it is called Liquid Smooth for a reason) and lots of customization & tweaking options. franco kernel pushes the smoothness to another level. Liquid & franco are both awesome devs who have been tinkering with android for a long time, and they both know their stuff.
Liquid comes with imoseyon's leankernel, which is a solid kernel (obviously, or Liquid wouldn't have included it in the rom). imoseyon is another well-known & respected dev that churns kernels at a dizzying rate. If you have fastboot set up, grab official images from google and flash them.

those images are for Yakju ..... mine is Yakjujp ... I think i cant flash them .. any other solution ??

doesn't matter,
infact if you flash yakju then you will get OTA as well. if you are in japan you can flash a japan radio on top of the rom.

Don't I need to get the boot loader etc back to orignal in order to receive the updates ... ? If so how ?

I have been researching the many different kernels out there all day. I have been running GummyNex ROM's since I rooted my GNex. I really do like the options he has. I forget which version, but the battery life was amazing (which included the baked in kernel). I flashed to .0.9 and recently 4.0.4 1.0.1 and the battery life is like a V-12 Lamborghini. I just flashed a Franco Kernal and am hoping this fixes my battery drain issues.
Something has to give......

Use liquid rom with Franco milestone built ... gave me a 4+ hour screen time. Don't know why but the nightly version reduces battery life

I'm running Liquid 1.3 and am using Franco nightly #143 and, so far, my battery life is really great. I was at 89% after 2 hours. I also want to try Milestone 3, that just came out yesterday and see how it performs.

[Q] franco.kernel vs stock 3.0.8

What are the differences?
I'm using Android Revolution HD 3.0.0 now and in the description mike1986 claims that stock 3.0.8 kernel is the best so far but with so many people using franco's kernel it must be better or am i wrong?
Also, will flashing franco.kernel on Android Revolution cause any bugs etc? (I'm kinda new to this whole flashing kernels part)
(If there are better roms do not hesitate to recommend me one and please tell me what's better if thats the case )

I can not list the differences for you exactly just go to franco's thread. There are many advantages to flashing a custom kernel. The kernel devs work hard to make the kernel's better than stock in many ways. You'll get extra features and extended battery life for sure out of a custom kernel. Stock better? I dont think so! Flashing a kernel after a rom is the way you have to do it but, ya some settings might not work if the kernel dev had done things differently from the rom dev.
give it a shot if you dont like it you can always reflash your rom package to restore the roms kernel.
before flashing a kernel (or reflashing your rom after flashing a custom kernel) wipe your dalvik cache
so many people around here have a boner for franco but I always highly recommend GLaDOS kernel its imo the best and most advance but to each his own

I use a BB Bold 9900 for my everyday smartphone and have a GT i9250 maguro that I have rooted and fiddled with.
I'm currently looking for a Custom ROM that provides the best performance for gaming.
These are my current specs:
AND Ver 4.2.1
BBand I9250XXLH1
CMOD VER 10.1-20121214-SKANK-maguro
Build Num cm_maguro-userdebug 4.2.1 J0P40D eng.fitsnugly.20121213.211144 test-keys
Any help/advice/thoughts would be greatly appreciated

if you're looking for performance, then you're looking for a kernel not a rom probably. try out different kernels(or even ROMs), find the one that you and your device likes the best. there is no one right answer for what is the best kernel or ROM. i prefer the trinity kernel with the rasbean jelly ROM.

Just update to Takju 4.2.2 with the stock kernel. Functions are limited with the stock kernel. Any recommedations of which custom kernels that are battery friendly, overclocking possiblility and/or better wifi reception?

ak kernal, fraco is also a great option, but i personally prefer ak.

leanKernel

Just flashed stock 4.2.2 and flahsed franco r365. Seems that the battery is better than before. I will report in the next days.

All kernels aim to give better battery life while not sacrificing too much performance.
Kernels need a little while to settle down so try one out and give it a day before passing judgment and if it doesn't give desired results for your rom and device then try another.

I've had a ton of success with AK kernels. Morfic and LeanKernel too, but lately the AK ones seem the best for me. I run a custom ROM tho, and I've seen that a lot of folks really like Morfic on stock 4.2.2.
If you're on VZW or Sprint, you may have to flash the GPU binaries to be able to install a true 4.2.2 kernel, otherwise you're phone wont boot and you'll have to reflash a 4.2.1 kernel to get back up and running.

Looking for mostly stock ROM

I am coming from the Note 2 and on that phone I used RWilcos Mostly Stock ROM which is basically just the stock ROM with small tweaks, root, bloatware removed etc.
It did not have any bugs that effected the functionality which I've seen with other ROMs (CM etc).
Does anyone have a recommendation for a 100% functional stable ROM almost that won't remove all the great Note features but still have the added features and performance, battery life , root etc of the custom ROMs?

First of all, is the phone new and already updated to stock 5.1.1?
If so you have a locked bootloader (but still have options) .
If you have 5.0.1 or older version your in luck.

CM and ports require more attention whether it be developer, user or both.
Stock-like TW narrows it down for you. IMO, the two most active and capable developers in TW for Sprint Note 4 are tx_dbs_tx and freeza. They both have released very stock and also modified ROMs. Then there's OBAR that got a lot testing and users as well to make sure the bugs were squashed; still has support and also user community support.
If you don't want to get into kernel tweaking but want something with default and optimization out of the box- better than stock, consider freeza's Beastmode kernel or the newer Rage kernel that is integrated in Note 4our ROM (Don't be put off by the beta; it's stable but more customization is expected). Otherwise, take your pick and run the included kernel or choose another custom Android 5.1.1 kernel like AEL or Emotion for Sprint Note 4.
Personally, I prefer freeza's kernel. I've posted some battery stats in freeza's Beastmode kernel and Note 4our ROM threads.
I couldn't narrow it any further than this. You'd have to decide yourself or try as many as you like to make a definitive decision. Lots of choices and opinions vary; that's a good thing.

Which one of freeza's kernels gives better battery? Have you compared them to AEL? I'm using AEL 6.2,and while it has decent battery, it lags a bit.

IMO, they're equal on battery.
Rage may be slightly better on multitasking but there's extra scripts in play with the integrated ROM.
No lag but I've ran freeza kernels since Beastmode because they're close to stock with no setup to tweak.
Prior to that, I preferred stock kernel but thanks to Samsung, can't run it with root anymore. No recent compare to AEL or Emotion.
