Anyone know how to view password protected files? I'm sure there's some app that requires root that should allow us to view password protected files. I've tried like 10 to no success. Is there a terminal command or something I'm missing? Thanks.

couldn't he just send you the original file w/o the password? i'd assume he has an original since he put the password in the file he sent you.
Hmm. I guess. But us nerds always have to do things the hard way don't we?
Hard to believe they haven't created something for that though.

Im thinking he means the file as in most likely a
zip, rar, or 7zip. Thats password protected. And not the actual file itself

we've had to get a pdf password cracker b/c customers would send us files to print that had printing and/or editing restrictions on them. cracking usually is easy but sometimes could take over night as the brute force runs through a pw list. it's never failed yet. time warner used to be the most guilty of that when we used to print their remote control guides.
i think the same company that made the pdf pw cracker makes a rar and zip pw cracker.

I've been trying to add XDA to Communities app, but I keep getting the 'wrong username or password' error. I know I'm using the correct ones (I'm here now on the website ), but short of registering with a different username-password, I can't think what I could do. Just wanted to bring this to XDA's attention, though the problem could be with Communities.

Same problem in Tapatalk.
I'm in webOS now, but when I booted to Android (cm7 - alpha3) I encountered the same problem, in the browser. I even looked up the password in Firefox on my pc, I'm using the correct one, but for some reason it's not being recognized.
Any mods have a suggestion?
Does your password contain special characters? That is all I can think of...
Tapatalk/Forum Runner work fine for me, and my password here is one that would usually cause issues on something badly written

Thanks for the answer, but, no it's a plain vanilla, letter & number combination pwd. It works fine for other sites.
I thought I'd give back in a small way, at least for Exchange users/sufferers. Here are Email.apk and Exchange.apk, hacked to not request Admin privileges, and compiled against CM9/epicmtd codebase. This means you don NOT have to use a secure lock screen and can therefore use the new lock screen features of CM9. I've tried other such replacements, but they no longer work with latest CM9
here are download links:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19884731/Email.apk
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/19884731/Exchange.apk
You just need to replace the same apks in /system/app, and permission both to 644, or RW-R-R, like all the other /system/app apks. If they are no permissioned properly they won't work. The easiest way to do this is with Root Explorer, or perhaps some free variant. It's best to delete before replacing, otherwise the service may (harmlessly) crash on you. Finally, reboot the phone.
WARNING: You will have to re-setup your Exchange account. If you do not know your setup info, wait until you do to do this.
When you do re-setup the account it will warn you that permissions are required, then won't do anything about it. Also, you will have to do this every time you flash a new CM9.

This is a policy patcher that will do the same
So it can be used on any ROM! Neat huh?
I wish I knew about this before I hacked! Definitely the best solution.
Dose this still work with cm9.1?

Funny we keep ending up on the same threads. I did darkies post above and it worked pretty good on CM9.1. I forgot to allow root for adb so it was slightly more complicated for me and I had to manually mount /system as rw. I think setting the root adb access (settings -> developer) would have made it work right. I just did it 2 days ago.

No, because you have not given Exchange service admin rights.
Also, I just wanted to mention that these apks work with CM9 only. The patching script that darkierawr referenced above works great for CM10.
I couldn't download wildstang83 rom Desired Inc HD 3D Vsix. First I couldn't get the download to start I had an error that my javascript was not enabled. Now I can't even get to the Download Link.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Ok I'm able to get to the link but this is what I get when I click on it:
{"INFO":"failed posted hashcheck","SOLUTION":"please make sure you have javascript enabled for androidfilehost.com. Hit the back button, enable javascript and try again please. we promise we are probably not doing anything nefarious. maybe. no promises though."}
I even Enabled the Scripts in Internet Options>Security Tab and I also put the website on the Trusted list. Still nothing.
Are you downloading from your PC or phone?
That error means JavaScript is disabled in your browser. Google how to enable it in your particular browser. Are you doing it from a home or work PC?

Home PC. Like I mentioned I did Enabled the Scripts unless I'm missing something.
I'm starting to feel dumb now trying to download a simple file. Not like this is my first time.

Dont feel bad i get the same errors. Talked to stang and he said its the server and he cant do anything about it, and is unwilling to direct link his work on xda. In my opinion a rom you have to jump through hoops just to get, by a dev who is unwilling to distribute his work in a normal standard fashion, isin't worth being on my phone.

Does anyone know if the Polaris Office app installed on the GN2 is a full functioning copy of it? Whenever I enter a formula into a cell the formula disappears after using it one time. Thanks for helping.

Formulas don't work. Copying and pasting sometimes will instead do a find/replace over the entire spreadsheet. Finally, you can't even save an edited file as the same name.
It didn't look like it supported Google Drive to me.

Ok guys I need help. This phone can capture signatures easily. ... But everything must be uploaded to it first.
I am a counselor running a small private practice. I am going to have to shift to 100% electronic records. I have been trying to find a way or a program to simply tether my note to my computer so my clients and I can easily sign the documents.
There are options out there that require me to upload the files to the phone or the cloud but seriously this is a huge security issue and can lead to confidently breeches especially with the nsa trolling us. I just can't do this.
I need to know if there is an app that can simply turn this phone ,while it's running, into a signature pad.
Please if someone can help I would appreciate it. I don't have a lot of money and this could really help.
Thanks,
Adan
