Didn't know where else to ask this so I'm trying here... My wife has a iPhone.. I can send emoji's to her with no problem but when she sends them to me, all I get is black diamonds with question marks... Anybody know how to fix this? I'm current using handcent but I tried go sms and the same results... Any help would be appreciated.

This was covered previously. Follow the instructions about the emoji part, and you should be good to go dude.
Go SMS works fine. I also have a stock SMS app that allows for iPhone compatibility if you don't want any other app besides stock. Both work fine, but you have to enable group messaging in go SMS.
Flash this in twrp and go into your settings afterwords to make sure group messaging is enabled for your stock messaging.

This is for emojis to be able to view them. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.klncity1.emojifontupdater

I asked the same questions and while back. Check out here and here. I am currently using the second one and it works like a charm. It uses the new updated Google Hangout emojis.
Thats the one I gave him. I just uploaded it to my drop box to make things easier.

If you use Google voice, that can cause an issue as well because it can't process the emojis as the text gets routed through Google
heeeeyyy i've tried other apps to see the emoji there's no one work if you just installed the emoji keyboard or something like that , but one last think i tried its very2 awesome , , ,i just download a font pack on playstore and use the one of that font , voilllaaaaaaaaa you cant send or see emoji from iphone to your android phone

I dislike the SMS and Hancent text programmes.
I migrated from a Nokia E71 and prefer the simple SMS format
PLEASE PLEASE help as all I want is an app that will work and give me simple texts with an INBOX DRAFT SENT OUTBOX
can someone please help?
I cant think of any reason you want to do that - non-threaded convos were one of the bigger reasons I got rid of my E71
But to answer your question, I have np idea if such sms replacer app exists :-[

Definitely agree, wen I first saw the threaded verson I thought wtf is this n how do I turn it off!! But within a day of using it, I realised its the best improvement to sms that I've seen in a LONG time. Stick with it and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for that but I also had an Iphone which I hated.
I am familiar with 'conversations' but whatever anyone else thinks I prefer the old system and find the thread way confusing and annoying!
I want a simple INBOX SENT OUTBOX
I may have a 2 week old Desire for sale if not

lol your not serious about selling your desire just because it has as default the conversation sms style?
look in the market maybe theres something for you, if not then get used to it cuz it really isnt that hard and your probably 1 out of 100+ that doesnt like this style, and to be honest most of the phones these days have it that way anyway so might be a bit tough for you to replace the functionality of a desire with a different phone that has the 'old' sms style
btw. instead of having the simple INBOX SENT OUTBOX u got even simpler all in one. theres no need for outbox anyway
Wow... I can't believe that some people don't like conversation view. It saves so much time compared with flicking between the message I'm writing and the one I'm replying to!

You're not the only one. I also hated conversation view when I got my Hero, but got used to it eventually. I might look at creating an app to solve this problem (simple mind you, like an SMS reader rather than AIO)
I can understand you because when I receive sms from my girlfriend I prefer having an isolated message than a thread thats looks more like a chat ^^ search on the market for sms manager its a freeware

What I find annoying is the small space allocated to my text message as I'm entering it. Why not devote half a screen to it so I can see my whole message as I type it? Sometimes I type a long sentence and the start has scrolled off, so i only notice mistakes after i've sent them.

I hope you will create an app?
The more & more I use texts the more & more I am tempted to switch back to my Nokia E71
OK instead of people telling this guy he's crazy for not loving it let's attempt to be more helpful in a practical sense.
What is it in particular you find confusing about a threaded conversation? Give me an example of a use case where having your messages organised in this way is less than suitable. Maybe if we clear up the confusion you'll find it easier.

well if you do go back to the E71 dont ever upgrade your phone because as far as i know all phones are using this new conversation style sms system now even the new nokias so i would try and get used to it if i were you.
Is there any app thats equivalent to iphone's irealsms. I really wish i could reply to txt without closing the window thats currently open.
Also, I could send a quick txt by hitting the volume button on iphone that was really convenient.
And lastly, could send txt without having to unlock the screen.
So far, rooted the phone and LOVE it. Everything is awesome for me except for the txting feature. Thanks in advance. (I did try searching btw)
Try contapps.
Market Link
try chompsms it has a pop-up just like the iphone and you can setup how you want to reply also it has a quick SMS function that you can long press the search button to create a new SMS its what I use and love it.

Exactly what I was looking for (chompsms) Thanks!!
I lied, almost perfect. Or is there some secret way to send mms on it too?
Handcent does the same as well. I prefer it over Chomp.
i use GO SMS Pro, simply the best
Now that I've tried all 3... There's things I like about each one but also things I dont' like.
I think Chomp fits me the best though. 2 things to make it perfect for me would be to get rid of ads(easily done) but more importantly, be able to send mms in the quick compose bubble. Otherwise, Thanks for helping me find something almost perfect!
on pretty sure if you long press in the entry feild it brings up a menu for attachments

One thing i would like to see in ROMS is Group Texting and Emoji. I see the new rom Liquid Smooth added group mms threading. Now is it possible to add Emoji throughout the phone like IPhones? Like i know i can download Chomp SMS or Go SMS and then download the emoji addon, but the emoji addon only works in the SMS app.. I cant use the Emojis for apps like instagram. Is that possible or do Devs have to port that into their ROMS? Thanks.

I second that! I'm a total noob at ROMs and stuff but I've been able to decompile the SecMms.apk and other system apps and I've discovered there is code for both threaded group mms and emojis. At this point I'm too noob to figure out what I need to do to enable at least the threaded group mms but I totally second this!
Bump please!
There was an emoji keyboard that developers were able to hack out of the jb codes. There was a zip uploaded to XDA, I had that a while ago. Basically when you want to type, you'd change to that JB emoji keyboard and there you have it! can post anywhere..

If its a group of friends, try kik or Voxer. That's what we use. They'd all need the app. There are some that work on all platforms too....not sure which.

Group texting is the standard for normal cell phone users and should of been included in android long ago. Bizzare that its not. Telling any friends I want to group chat with to install and sign up for some app is not the right or easy option.

its on every ROM in here except TW Roms they dont support it but you can see them if not then just download and app called Chomp sms and it replace you text app with that one and it has all the bells and whistles you want also if you do install make sure to uncheck the notifications on your stock messaging app so you dont get double the notify
I think Google added the code in JB 4.2 to natively support group messaging. The recent updates for the SG2 models won't do group threads. If you use a a 4.2 rom then it should already be in there without needing a secondary program. I'm running Slim and it works fine.
I know this is the wrong thread but I thought more peole would see it here.

Its working for me... does it not seem a bit clumsy in its implementation? You've got to switch back and forth between sms/hangouts. Two separate conversations. Not sure what I was expecting... but I dont think this was quite it.
I was reading that 4.4 would have both SMS and MMS in hangouts.
It's working for me very well. But still has some catching up to do even with the stock Galaxy s3 messaging app. Hangouts needs to be able to attach contacts or calendar or even a voice recording.

One contact = two conversations. One for sms messages, one for hangouts messages
I'm sorry to post a full newbie post here regarding this but I'm trying to settle some debate and confusion online about Hangouts 2.0
Basically has google "done it right" this time and copied iMessage? (No, I'm not an Apple fanboy)
The advantage of iMessage is that it defaults to data when possible, fallsback to SMS when it has to.
It's also completely seamless, this is handled for you - no need to manually change from data to SMS mode or anything.
2 more points:
iMessage allows you to SMS a "new" phone number for someone you've never encountered before, iMessage detects the phone number is "iMessage-able" and simply sends via data, no kind of handshake / friendship needs to be setup
and finally
There's no "online" status required of iMessage, you need not "log in" or always be set to online, it's an SMS app natively but you can communicate with people over data without them knowing you're necessarily "online"
The advantages as follows.
Cheapest possible was of conversing with friends (assuming your SMS plan is NOT unlimited, I'm in a country where it's pricey)
Privacy / "aloofness" - the lack of an online / offline requirement allows you to ignore a message and respond at your leisure, be it 5 minutes, 5 hours or 5 days. If someone however sees a green O next to your name with Hangouts, the social pressure / obligation to reply is there, you can't just relax if that makes sense (I guess this is an introvert feature)
Sorry for the long post but I'm hearing conflicting reports online that google STILL screwed it up - but that's from people who have obtained the Hangouts 2.0 APK file and do NOT have 4.4 KitKat, rumour has it that's required for the full backend SMS "engine" update to work like iMessage?
Thanks all, really appreciate your time.
EDIT: This also covers what I'm trying to clarify.

I looked for a similar thread and I couldn't find anything. I dont know if its rom specific or maybe a setting I missed somewhere.
I'm Military and I often get group texts from 10+ people at a time. I'm running Slimkat 4.0 release. Now I get the texts which is great but I get them all individually. Instead of all on one text. So I have multiple numbers texting me from one group and It's hard to know who was the original sender to reply. Is there a setting I happened to miss or is this something that I can fix through some help. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
There might be some settings there in the message app, but I have never used that ROM to be honest.. Textra works really well with group messaging however, you might want to give it a try!

You're welcome just remember if one of the recipient's SMS app doesn't support group texting, you'll still receive the messages individually, but only for those recipient's replies
