HTC DESIRE SMS simple texts ? - Desire General

I dislike the SMS and Hancent text programmes.
I migrated from a Nokia E71 and prefer the simple SMS format
PLEASE PLEASE help as all I want is an app that will work and give me simple texts with an INBOX DRAFT SENT OUTBOX
can someone please help?

I cant think of any reason you want to do that - non-threaded convos were one of the bigger reasons I got rid of my E71
But to answer your question, I have np idea if such sms replacer app exists :-[

Definitely agree, wen I first saw the threaded verson I thought wtf is this n how do I turn it off!! But within a day of using it, I realised its the best improvement to sms that I've seen in a LONG time. Stick with it and you'll see what I mean.

Thanks for that but I also had an Iphone which I hated.
I am familiar with 'conversations' but whatever anyone else thinks I prefer the old system and find the thread way confusing and annoying!
I want a simple INBOX SENT OUTBOX
I may have a 2 week old Desire for sale if not

lol your not serious about selling your desire just because it has as default the conversation sms style?
look in the market maybe theres something for you, if not then get used to it cuz it really isnt that hard and your probably 1 out of 100+ that doesnt like this style, and to be honest most of the phones these days have it that way anyway so might be a bit tough for you to replace the functionality of a desire with a different phone that has the 'old' sms style
btw. instead of having the simple INBOX SENT OUTBOX u got even simpler all in one. theres no need for outbox anyway

Wow... I can't believe that some people don't like conversation view. It saves so much time compared with flicking between the message I'm writing and the one I'm replying to!

You're not the only one. I also hated conversation view when I got my Hero, but got used to it eventually. I might look at creating an app to solve this problem (simple mind you, like an SMS reader rather than AIO)

I can understand you because when I receive sms from my girlfriend I prefer having an isolated message than a thread thats looks more like a chat ^^ search on the market for sms manager its a freeware

What I find annoying is the small space allocated to my text message as I'm entering it. Why not devote half a screen to it so I can see my whole message as I type it? Sometimes I type a long sentence and the start has scrolled off, so i only notice mistakes after i've sent them.

The more & more I use texts the more & more I am tempted to switch back to my Nokia E71

OK instead of people telling this guy he's crazy for not loving it let's attempt to be more helpful in a practical sense.
What is it in particular you find confusing about a threaded conversation? Give me an example of a use case where having your messages organised in this way is less than suitable. Maybe if we clear up the confusion you'll find it easier.

well if you do go back to the E71 dont ever upgrade your phone because as far as i know all phones are using this new conversation style sms system now even the new nokias so i would try and get used to it if i were you.

Contact list question regarding SMS

I have gone into the contacts and set my sim contacts as inactive, yet when I open the contact list when creating a new SMS, all my SIM contacts are there... this is really really annoying. I can not for the life of me figure out how to disable this.
I've had a G1 for the past 1.5 years, rooted and running custom roms, so I know this has to be a snake in the grass waiting to bite me. Can anyone lend a hand?
Sorry if this is a bit hard to follow, long day
And yes, I have searched.. again, I know this is probably right in front of my face.
same problem here hopefully gets fixed in and update
same crap here another two annoyances from the stock sms app is no led and if text are sent in the same minute they get outta order
I cant stand how you can sync your facebook with only the contacts that are in your address book. But then when you go to text someone is shows everyone from facebook as a option to message. I just want it to show the people in my addess book. is there any way to do this. Have it sync just your contacts with facebook and not have everyone and their mother show up in the who to message list?
go into contacts and press the option menu, then view. disable the t-mobile one contacts too. because t-mobile keeps all ur contacts too...
i had a similar problem, hope this help tho...

it still ends up coming up when you search for the name in the sms app or other apps thats just to clear it from the phone app
This phone handles syncing strange. I cant wait till its rooted so i can put a Cyanogen rom on it. Even when i delete all the tomobile contacts. It finds a way of bringing them back.

This, 1000000000 times this. If I turn off veiwing facebook for mytouch contacts in the address book it still shows 100000 people form facebook in the sms part when i go to send a new message.
Yes... the syncing on this phone is indeed weird and annoying.. it was cool at first seeing everything pool in and popup without entering any info.. then it went awire , so I hit the killswitch on the whole operation. I know this isn't an answer to the problem, but maybe u can do without syncing until the froyo update comes next week (wishful thinking) ? Or do a hard reset and resync everything over slowly
No way I could find to not see all your contacts as is described in post #1. Dowload a full-featured sms app.

Handcent or Chomp. I prefer the former but have not used the latter much. For all new Android users reading this...please use androidtapp.com for reviewing apps. If they have reviewed the app, it is very thorough, including screen shots and an overall rating. This also gives you an idea of what the app can do, especially in comparison to a stock app so you don't have to frumpenuzzle with it yourself.
Just a word on handcent. I can not stand the way it looks. Its a blatent iphone look-a-like

Features missing in Ics?

Hi again, just a couple of features I have noticed missing, or not found them....
First is being able to long hold a contact and send business card etc,
And the other one is deleting individual calls from call history, either in batch or long pressing.
Any one else found some features you'd expect missing or if the ones above will be included in a software update?

You can't zoom in the photo edit application, which makes it absolutely impossible to remove red eyes even though there is such a functionality. Tried it several times already, the built in flash almost always guarantees red eyes.

If I remember correctly, stock Android hasn't had SMS business card sharing for a long time. It's no new discovery with Android 4.0
OK, thanks for the help. Seen the delete call option now. But no SMS sharing.
Galaxy s2 had it, so must be the touchwiz.
Phone is amazing all in all tho!

Ics features Missing
update which misses the core features of ICS. Still its getting rolling to many country almost 4 days gone.
Native 3G VIDEO CALL.- why we have a front camera where we cant use it for video call. Its not fair
WIFI-DIRECT- The most welcomed features. Thought its being the highend smart phone we already misses the 4.0 bluetooth which the board can support but atleast the WIFI capable direct transfer technology which most company including samsung incorporated even in GB phone and adding to these the white paper reveales that its has the technology in buit. But why its not implemented in the latest build.
Camera : Burst Mode. Many low end smartphones has that features. Why we dont have that feature. its really a pain that having spent on high end phone lacks basic functionality where a mediocre devices can perform the same functionality at a fraction of price.
I am not pin pointing or complaining. I am just esclating to the right department to notify that these core features which are missing in the XS.
Please take it as a feedback and do the needfull to the owners of XS.
Thanks
The use of wifi direct. Setting an external MP3 as a ringtone without the use of any apps or moving the MP3 to another location on the phone. In the contacts app, choosing to view only people with cellphone numbers (again, without using any other external app)
Sending sms or email to a group. I don't know why such a simple feature is absent.

Major option missing in that. No sharing via text. That's ****ing stupid to leave out Messaging/Text sharing, which is the main reason to share a contact or business card.

seriously guys move on you live in like 90s.... sms? are you serious? come on... There is like 50 or more social platforms out there way but wayyyyy better than sms.... to name some of them: whatsapp, chaton, viber, etc etc etc, you can send any kind of media any size and create groups or whatever and they are multi platform... meaning they run in blackberry, windows phone, iphone, Android, so what's the deal with sms? I personally haven't sent a sms to a person in years wtf
also world wide you only need a WiFi signal to chat or share media with your people

Never even heard of those apps before. Everybody texts still. All my friends, family, and in my business sales SMS texting is very common and popular.
If those apps you mentioned are so great, lets see Android or iPhone incorporate them directly into their OS or some type of version based off them.

Yup yup, it's a bit daft we need to install Skype or something similar. I wish Google would follow suit like other manufacturers and OEMs, and bundle a native video calling app.
Also, a BBM type thing would be nice, preinstalled, so all Android phones come with it. Group chats and the like would be pretty awesome.

I thought Talk was an MSN Messenger type app? You can't use it via the Phone can you? I.e. going to contacts and clicking call - video call. Surely if you want to make a call using Talk, you need to be logged in, and the other person has to be online etc etc?
SMS is still the most common thing, everyone with a phone has it.
Whatsapp? Not all my friends have a smartphone, let alone Whatsapp.

transfer sms and mms to iphone 4

Hi, I just got a Sprint iPhone 4, moved my contacts.I want to move all my text messages from the android HTC EVO 4G to the iPhone 4. I can't seem to find a way, while there seem to be many ways to perform the iphone to android migration. If anyone can help, ill appreciate it.

Hint hint... there has to be a reason...
Joking aside, AFAIK the way to do this is to allow your contacts to be sync'd by Outlook, then iTunes will pick up your contacts and allow you to sync with your new phone.
Bu ti want to move the sms and mms to the iphone, i already did the contacts.. can you explain?
Does Google Sync support the syncing of texts from ios? Not sure right off the bat and can't research it at the moment.

Oops. My bad... the reply was intended only for the contacts part not for the SMS/MMS issue. I don't think its even possible since the way android 'stores' both is very similar to a database. Maybe the iphone has a similar set up but knowing how proprietary is everything with them I would just let it go.
Off topic...just wondering how you like the iphone?
We're comin from a pure power source.
Also, have you used SMS Backup+ on the Evo? I know it won't put your texts in the text application on the iPhone, but at least you won't lose them (you'll have them all saved in your Gmail, under the label "SMS").
Thanks guys, I have all my msg saves , no worries. I guess there isn't a way so far. I have not activated the iPhone yet , I just tether jailbreak it and playing with it, I love open source android

The software costs $20, so do you think thats a price to swallow for basically a one time use?

Group mms?

Is there a Group MMS feature in the stock messaging app where all the replies are kept in one thread?
I don't think there's native support for that at the moment. I composed one text and sent it to three recipients at once. On my screen it showed a thread with all three individuals, but on their phones, they received the text as if it was only addressed to them, and if they reply, I'm the only one that gets that reply text. I saw on the FreeGS3 rom that there's support for a "reply to all" feature which sounds more like what you're looking for.
That's too bad. I know GO SMS has it but I really like the look of this stock messaging app.

Mulitiple Replies???
I sent a joke text out earlier to 4 people. Now when they reply back, I get a text from each of them individually. But two of the people have iPhones. So when they reply, they go to everyone that was on the message I sent. I've noticed that it happens with BlackBerry's too. So is this a Android issue or other phone issues?
I'm also interested in having all the replies in one thread with the person's name next to it.
Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure Group Messaging was Apple's idea. I'm not a big fan of it personally, but I work and deal with a lot of iPhone people so I've resorted to GO SMS Pro for that feature. They had a few quirks at the beginning, but got them sorted out.
And to those asking, it does keep them all in a single thread, with the person's name above what they wrote, at least, in the style I have mine set up in.
The one thing I have noticed is that any thread where you had a convo going with the originating person, shows up right next to the group message as well. You can also click at the top and see who the message was all sent to if someone sends you a group SMS. If they're in your contacts, it shows their name, which is a nice bonus. If not, just the number.
As for the comment about the FreeGSIII 'reply all' feature, it's not the same thing. I thought that dev had it pegged, but he said it was something else.
EDIT: I don't know if they will all appear in one thread if not everyone else is using an iPhone. If one person responds using Android and not using the feature in GO SMS Pro (or something similar) I would assume their reply would only go back to the person who sent the initial message. Hopefully that all made sense...

I believe that is user specific as I've had the option to set it this way, or sending them to each person, not in a group like you state. I liked to keep things in order, so I would always choose to send it to each person as it does it anyway, just depends on how you want it displayed on your phone.

[Q] Group text

I looked for a similar thread and I couldn't find anything. I dont know if its rom specific or maybe a setting I missed somewhere.
I'm Military and I often get group texts from 10+ people at a time. I'm running Slimkat 4.0 release. Now I get the texts which is great but I get them all individually. Instead of all on one text. So I have multiple numbers texting me from one group and It's hard to know who was the original sender to reply. Is there a setting I happened to miss or is this something that I can fix through some help. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks!
There might be some settings there in the message app, but I have never used that ROM to be honest.. Textra works really well with group messaging however, you might want to give it a try!

You're welcome just remember if one of the recipient's SMS app doesn't support group texting, you'll still receive the messages individually, but only for those recipient's replies
