There's a new OTA update available for the Galaxy S4 SGH-M919V variant from Wind Mobile, Eastlink, Videotron in Canada.
This is the update that finally brings the much awaited Apps2SD feature to our phones. It also includes the following enhancements:
- Some new icons in the settings
- Additional 'Smart Pause' button in quick settings
- Stability improvements
- Upgrades the camera firmware.
- Storage shown as 16GB now, but 6.38 GB is occupied by System memory under 'Misc'.
Firmware version: M919VVLUAMG1
So its official. TMo is the last carrier on Earth to get this update.

Unfortunately, it appears to be the case as of now. I really can't imagine it being that far off now. Since, these versions are identical!

The OTA will fail to update if you're rooted.
I had to Odin back to stock and then apply the OTA update.
So yes, the update will break root.
I haven't tried to root it since, so I can't report any progress there.

It failed because it said your device is modified and prevent you from updating or it failed in the middle of updating?
tmobile needs to speed up this apps to sd update.....
I love how they are trying to hide the space the system uses under miscellaneous. This might trick people into not complaining about having more available disk space. I've heard good things about this update... Just want it already.
Still lovin' Tmo more than Sprint!!! 15-26mb beats 100k all day long. And I enjoy being able turn the camera sound off without rooting.

man, i got excited for a minute when i read new firmware update.
T-Mobile is usually quick to send out updates, I wonder why it's taking them long to release this one? The S3 got the JB update pretty quick if I'm not mistaken.

you can blame me for the update not being released and it wont be released for months, according to my sources. I talked to t mobile about all the bugs they have, so they said fine, we will do everything never to give bugs again, hence a long update period...It was probably my phone calls that lead to this wait

You son of a ..... ;__; :crying:
I realize it's always an agonizing wait to get your hands on the newest firmware. However, there's a bright side to it. You all are still able to root and tinker with your devices.
I haven't been able to root the newest firmware using motochopper and am hesitant to try CF-Autoroot because in the case it does trip the flash counter and I loose root, I won't be able to reset it.
So, by the time tmobile sends out the update, there hopefully is a way to root.

Next time if your already rooted you can grab the app voodoo OTA Rootkeeper, which should be able to protect and reapply root after an update.

Thanks for that tip. However, I doubt it would've worked because since I was rooted, the update failed to complete installing around 25%. So, I had to odin back to stock and then apply the OTA. Probably something to do with a locked bootloader.

Yeah, the phone status was 'Official'. You'd have to be in order to get OTA updates/notifications.
Initially upon rooting, the status changed to 'Custom', But I followed the guide below to revert it to 'Official' while retaining root.

So I recently found out I'm unable to install OTA Android updates to my phone if it's rooted.
So what can I do once ICS is released for the GS2? Will there be a download online that I can just flash with ODIN? Or are people going to be forced to unroot if they want the official ICS stock?
Most likely samfirmware aka sammobile will release an odin .tar, so you'll be good to go with odin.

That's not true. You will be unable to install OTA patch-style updates if you have modified one of the files being patched. If you rooted with Auto Root and that's all you did, you will be able to install OTA patch-style updates even without unrooting (though the update will disable root)

I'm sure there will be an ODIN update within a few days or maybe even the same day. You can also flash EK02 and let the OTA update upgrade you (or if you've just rooted with Auto Root, just let the OTA update run), though you are probably better off waiting for an update from XDA, because the updates from here will attempt to keep your rooting and upgrade options as open as possible.
I'll also probably have an OTA compliance check for the next official update so you can tell immediately which files are not in compliance with what the update expects. I have one for EG30 to EK02 as part of the Auto Root package, so it would be similar in functionality.
First rule: Never take an OTA update if you care about rooting.
Any file made available from sprint or samsung will have a rooted/safe version posted in the dev section within a few hours of release.
I know samsung is pretty nice to us rooters but you never know when that might change.

If you are worried about the OTA messing something up, it'll download and ask to install, but if you've made any changes to your ROM, including installing CWM, then it will fail the integrity check and won't install, so nothing will change.
I don't understand the OP's dilemma. Just wait a couple of hours after the OTA update and get a rooted version of the update... no problem!
It won't be out for a few more months anyways. It isn't even being tested yet. I doubt an initial build is even at Samsung. They are working on the the Galaxy S2 right now(the GSM overseas version). And, I am sure Sprint will sell some other phone with ICS stock before they update ours.
To the Community:
I just today received a note from T-Mobile Update Service that there's an update available. Of course being rooted it's not available to me OTA.
I plugged in my phone to Kies and the update that's available is from
Current firmware version: PDA:LK8 / PHONE:LK8 / CSC:LK8 (TMB)
to
Latest firmware version: PDA:LL4 / PHONE:LL4 / CSC:LL4 (TMB)
When I clicked on UPGRADE FIRMWARE I got a caution that read, "Devices that have been rooted or modified with customized software may experience a failure during the upgrade process."
So I have a couple of questions:
1. is this upgrade worth it?
2. should I unroot / Triangle Away / etc. and go through that rigamarole or should I risk proceeding with Kies? (As long as I don't brick my phone I have no problem recovering / restoring / etc.)
4. if I don't do anything, how can I get rid of the reminder-to-update icon in the notification bar?
Thanks in advance.
actually its not worth upgrading so consider carefully before you want to do so

Yeah I think I agree. I thought about the upgrade, then let it go ahead. That being said, have you seen what Verizon have been up to? Really screwing with rooted users IMHO. That's why I am not too quick to update, just in case it can be a negative upgrade.
If you are already rooted and are using SuperSu, then there is a setting called "survivor mode" which will attempt to retain root even after an update. I checked this box, updated and still have root. Yet another option is ti use an app from the android market called OTA Rootkeeper which essentially does the same thing.
I don't think the update is worth it. ExynosAbuse also fixes the security flaw. So I have root and a secure phone. Also I don't care much for multi window. I will however updated whenever LTE is enabled. Well, I might wait till LTE is rolled into Cyanogen first then upgrade to that.

But doesn't the ExynosAbuse mess up the camera when it is disabled in the app? And if you don't disable it then you only have root without the protection. I was in this situation and just did the update with OTA rootkeeper. I maintained root and my device status is still normal. See this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2111188

Chainfire did a really good job providing a temporary solution to take care of this exploit via exynos abuse application but this vulnerability was within the kernel and this had to be fixed via kernel update. The new update patches this vulnerability at kernel level making sure no other functions are affected by it.

I was wondering the same thing. I am stock/rooted. I wanted to keep root but be up to date. I found over on the q&a forum to use Voodoo OTA Root Keeper. And do the update OTA instead of using KIES. This worked like charm and made me extremely happy. Quick and easy.
ExynosAbuse messed up my camera at any rate. YMMV. The update worked fine for me. OTA Rootkeeper and restored root just fine after.

If you are rooted, my guess is that you most likely tripped the modified counter. By default if you are not using a work around, Samsung has certain methods in place that detect when you modifiy your phone or boot loader. Once tripped, you will most likely not get any ota updates. To check, first ensure that you dont have a yellow exclamation mark while your phone is booting, second, go to settings about phone and there is a string that she either read normal or modified. If you are rooted though, why dont you just flash one of the new roms with android 4.1.2? That is the update.

Yes, it appears I am modified. I used triangle away in the past. I havn't done any phone mods in a long time, and I basically have root for apps requiring SU. I did not want to have to break out the USB cable and download a 700MB file if I could just run the update tool (call me lazy).

Right, I went ahead and updated using cwm and the stock rom and am now on 4.1.2. Flashing was just scary to me when I havnt done it in a very long time
If you wish to do it the easy way I'd say TWRP it. But another way is Odin back to complete stock UVDLJC so that your status is normal and not modified. I'm pretty sure TriangleAway doesn't need to be used to reset your binary for an OTA. Just the ROM itself can't be detected as modified for the OTA to work.

Updated info from HTC
Here is further info from HTC regarding updates to the Verizon HTC One (about halfway down the page). 4.3 update in December, and 4.4 late January.
Quote: HTC USA also addressed the question of Android 4.3 and 4.4 updates for the Verizon HTC One, which yesterday received a small update to its existing 4.2-based firmware. HTC describes this as a "compatibility update," to be followed by a 4.3 OTA in December. The delay to the Android 4.3 rollout on Verizon won't affect the planned 4.4 launch on the carrier in late January, HTC's message added.

It did and often does.
It updated recovery and hboot, which would be very possible to have to change to allow the 4.3 OTA to actually flash properly when it's put out.
So if we didn't do the OTA we will have to do an OTA.zip to do the 4.3?

Taking the OTAs
Guys, I am at a loss here...I got the Verizon HTC ONE, used rumrunner to achieve S-OFF, Unlock, and Root, then flashed CWM 6.0.4.4 (I do have installed aps that require root if that matters) That's it. No de-bloat, no custom ROM, nothing. When I re-flash the original stock recovery back and try to check for and take the OTAs from the front end, I get "no new software update available". I'm still on 1.10.605.2 and original firmware. Would like to take this thing up to latest, be S-OFF, Unlocked, Rooted still but still off the shelf or stock for a bit more until I have shaken this thing down more.
I like the look of Santod's ROMs, probably will end up there, but not yet . His stock updated ROMs appear to have too much blue baked in for me - I like it off the shelf right now.
Thanks in advance if anyone can help guide me.

Have you frozen anything at all in Titanium Backup? If I remember correctly you have to relock your bootloader to be able to OTA (I may be mistaken though). If I were you I'd just wait until someone posts an OTApkg.zip (I think there's one available already) and just flash that instead.

No OTA will download onto the .02 software.
That was a version that shouldn't really have been distributed as far as I can see.
It will never see or allow for an OTA, so you will need to update to a stock .08 or stock .10 rom to be able to get the .15 OTA.
By the way, my stock roms are 100% stock, I did not change the colors of a single thing in my stock roms.
They are there for the 100% stock experience and for restore purposes. The .15 will be posted today as well.
NuSenseONE Max has blue elements added, but none of my stock roms do.

As stated, I don't think the .2 software was supposed to be distributed.
As you can see from the story above, it does not pull the OTA's.
I have seen this now on the last couple OTA's where folks on .2 were not able to see any updates.
One user took his to Verizon to have it replaced/updated there.
Most of them appeared to have had .2 at one point and then were updated/reflashed to the .8 and the box relabeled before being sold.
Most of the boxes still had the .2 sticker under the new .8 one.
Point is, it wasn't supposed to be distributed as far as I can tell and since it's not truly a Release version, it won't update.
You would have to ask Verizon/HTC for any further clarification then that.

This makes sense because 1 month after the 3rd week of October is the 2nd week of December, right? Verizon?

Well here it is.
It happened at 5am took about 15min to complete.
So far nothing weird, phone still smooth as butter and faster than Ricochet Rabbit.
Pp.
Never saw it go down this low after running Smartmanager.

Great! Let's hope this doesn't patches up the root exploits.. anyone can confirm?
Can anybody try whether OF8 can be rooted using unikernel?

Took about the same amount to update mine... It seems faster, dont know exactly what the changes are but i thought it would of included samsung pay
I received the update as well. coming from 5.02 the update package was around 600 something mbs to download. No huge differences shooting out to me just yet but time will tell
Depending on your carrier the size of the update will vary, as you can see on screen shot my tmobile update was 102.97 mb.
I was on 5.1.1 OTA stock firmware.

This article / procedure dates back to June 28, so I would not consider this to be current or safe.
I would read carefully and compare to other maybe more current procedures before attempting.
Beware of the FRP brick. :banghead:

Any update for the Stock Camera app, guys?
Apparently it's an update to fix issues with the battery and various bugs. Just updated gonna see what it's all about today.
Make way for all the battery life and memory question. Oh and RAW as well. That seems to be a popular topic these days.
Installing now. Coming from COF6 it was 102.97mb download. Hopefully it fixes my phone. It's been laggy as can be and had tons of battery drain.

Doesn't appear to be any change, and the app still reports as Version 4.0
I'm currently rooted on 5.0.2 - what would be the best method to update to this version while keeping root (if possible). Thanks in advance!
Just got my update also. I will update on how it runs by the end of day.

If you also care about keeping Knox in tact with root on this OF8 5.1.1, you're simply out of luck. If you don't care, flash the OF6 Odin image and then check for system updates (or just wait for this OF8 image to be posted). Then install TWRP and/or the latest Unikernel.

Unikernel roots this ROM, no problem there. You are right that people coming from OCG need to be very careful they enable OEM unlock in developer options before they root, though.

Some folks that "odined" OCG didn't have the option in developer options to turn on OEM unlock.
So for them its extremely risky.

The international variants received the OGx update today as well. One site said it was the first post 5.1.1 update but I recall them getting the update that tmobile pushed out today (OF8) about a month ago. Are we now one update behind?

My deep sleep time has never been close to what it's been today with the update. It may actually work.
