[Q] - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

my samsung galaxy note 2 GT-N7100 was rooted by my friend sometime ago but remains with stock kernel and 4.1.1 version Baseband version XXALJ2. i want to upgrade it to 4.1.2 but i dont know how. i have notice some glitz on my unit lately.

So ask that same friend to unroot it and flash back to stock ROM; then you can install the latest update from KIES.
Or ask him to flash a pre-rooted stock ROm for you.

I don't know how he rooted it. But if you still have stock recovery and stock kernel and your flash count is zero you can update via kies. Just install kies on your pc and then plug your phone with USB. Kies will update your phone automatically.
If you don't have the requirement for Kies update just check this post.->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1896696

If you have root you can use mobile odin on your phone if its easier

[Q] Software Update 4.1.2 HELP!

This morning, I received a notification from T-Mobile that there was a software update to 4.1.2 My phone was rooted and had 4.1.1 installed.
I tried OTA unsuccessfully as it would freeze on me. I connected my cell via usb to my computer for the update using Kies. My computer recognized my cell and was installing the update. The phone rebooted and everything appeared to be going well. When i checked my software version it was still at 4.1.1, now I noticed that my phone was un-rooted. Also, when I try to connect to Kies it does not connect to my phone. I tried several times to update via OTA, it will not connect. Please help, I want to update my phone without loss of my data.

Re: [Q] Software Update 4.2.1 HELP!
The update was 4.1.1 with new baseband not 4.2.1. Updating via KIES will definitely unroot the phone.

My cell is unrooted now. Is there anyway to at least update my software to 4.1.2 ???
Thanks for your help and time.
Re: [Q] Software Update 4.2.1 HELP!
I don't think there's an update to 4.1.2 either. Maybe it was a dream.
T-Mobile SGS III
It's all smoke and mirrors.
Not sure yet if it is 4.1.1 with a small patch (as OTA is about 4.3mb) or 4.1.2 (as Sammobile has it listed as 4.1.2 and 700+mb) Jury is still out but here is a thread going on about it ---> New OTA ROM - T999UVDLJC.
We do know that it is not 4.2.1. @OP can you please edit your title accordingly? Post>Edit>Go Advanced Please and thanks.
Edit: Sammobile changed it to 4.1.1. Must have been a typo. It happens. Probably a security patch or something.

Nah, not yet . This thread has evolved into a "Help me get Root back" thread.
I'll let it ride for awhile even though all the answers are readily available. He's brand, spanking new (just registered this morning). But since he is was Rooted, he should know how all this works.
To the OP... the update from what I hear has nothing special.. And if you're rooted, I'm sure you'll be able to flash a custom ROM based off of this update in a matter of weeks.

[Q] 4.4.1 downgrade to 4.1.1

Just bought S3 AT&T running beanstalk rom on 4.4.1
I need to go back to stock to 4.1.1 so I can unlock it (carrier)
Odin says fail.
Any advice?
Do you have in download mode? (Well obviously) are you also using the ride stock image for the AT&T Galaxy S3. Make sure you have all the drivers installed

I do have it in download mode, also drivers are installed, did it few times before going from 4.1.2 to 4.1.1 with no issues, but from 4.4, it says fail.
Anyone successfully downgraded?

From what I remember you can't downgrade if your bootloader was updated. I've found the same to be true if your baseband was updated as mine was when I flashed the Touchwiz 4.3 leaks. I haven't seen a concrete fix for this yet but I'm sure dev's are working on it.

[Q] Help with Tab 3 7.0 update

I have a Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 and it won't update to 4.2.2. It is rooted and Samsung told me to try KIES but It won't connect. Is there a way for my to Flash 4.2.2 and reroot with Odin? The Update page says the device is modified. Is there a way to change so it will update?
Thanks, Levi

You can't flash OTA updates on a rooted device. Just unroot, update then reroot. Unless there is a stock 4.2.2 rooted rom out there.

I am looking but is there a unroot guide available? Will I lose all my data? I work with desktop hardware more than software so I am not an android expert
Thanks, Levi
As far as I know, 4.2.2 hasn't been releases for Tab 3 7.0.
Edit: That's a lie actually. I believe it was released for the LTE models. Wonder why hasn't been released for the WiFi models.

That explains why best buy said 4.2.2 was available.
I wonder if universal unroot would work?

Hello @serein1,
Are you 100% sure you completed the saferoot instructions completely? Also, a good way to test if you do have root is to download Root Checker Also from mine and my friends experience with samsung repairs, they don't care about having a rooted status or a custom status if it has to do with hardware. But, Not everyone is the same at samsung ... Also check if Knox is voided because safe root does not trigger Knox to be disabled. Lastly, if you don't want to risk not getting it repaired I would flash Stock rom using Odin.
Downgrade to stock 4.1.2 rom, then root it, use triangle away to reset the counter and then do the compete unroot.
Done.

I am sorry to hijack the topic but have about the same prob.
eally just need a link for a stock rom 4.1.2 and the instructions to make it work with odin.
I mean where to put the files in pda phone and so on.
Thanks everyone
I have tried the instructions as mentioned for the safe root
it gives error unsupported device and then goes away
there's another thing I have noticed the safe root command prompt window on the top says S4 and not note 2 however I have downloaded the safe root from the note 2 forum section
The knox counter is already set to 1 now DAMN
I also would like to go back to the 4.1.2 and while downgrading using the ODIN it says unsupported on the phone screen and doesn't flashes the phone
How do we downgrade from the 4.3 that has the knox to the 4.1.2
thanks again

Try to find some firmware on sammobile site or here on xda (just search for the word stock).
After that You put the phone into a download mode, connect it to a PC and choose the downloaded (extracted) firmware under the pda/ap button.
Thanks that worked and it is back to stock now.
Now just get the flash counter back to 0 again.
Everything worked out fine and is temporarly replaced by an s3

@ikkeenjij36 how come you can downgrade to stock 4.1.2? Can you show me? What I know is that, bootloader from MK4 above cannot be downgraded, unless you're MJ5 and you need to use Dr.ketan bootloader patch.

I think You can flash some 4.1.2 ROM via CWM and then You will be able to flash some stock 4.1.2.

HELP GS3 telus I747M acting weird

Hi guys, I really need your help
I've flashed my galaxy s3 (Rogers i747M) and my friends one too (Virgin i747M) with the cyanogenmod installer without any hiccups. Today a friend of mine asked me if I could do the same with his (Telus i747M) but after the installation, when it reboot a message appeared telling me that it might overight the stock recovery. Regardless if I say yes or no, the phone still boots with stock 4.3 touchwiz.
The problem is, google services doesn't work anymore. It doesnt want to download from the play store and this prevent the phone from using any application. I tried to recover it with KIES by entering de S/N and the model but when I clic start after plugging the phone it tells me that my phone version isn't supported. Furthermore, when I go start the OTA update application on the phone it says it cannot work because de the phone ''has been modified''.
Seems like the CM installer broke the phone....
So I'm stuck right now. Can I flash the stock files with odin or heimdall? If so where can I get the files?
Many many manyyy thanks!
Just look around the s3 section I believe there is a sticky with all the s3 flashable Odin files

Okay, do you think I only need to flash a recovery and the stock ROM?
EDIT; I'm very worried that I bricked the phone with the CM installer, can it be the case ?
No if the Roms booted your fine and flash will do a full reinstall of stock including modem, bootloader, everything just flash and try to install cyanogen again

Okay then I'll try to manually flash CWM recovery tonight and then install CM11 d2lte snapshot 6 from the recovery. I've heard about the knox bootloader and that it could be dangereous for the device if you try to flash another recovery, is it still the case?
Thanks btw!
I haven't seen any reports about it so you should be fine..... The only problem people had was downgrading to android 4.1.1 I believe it was or installing a older modem......so you should be fine with the recovery and I hope you know it will trip the Knox counter and void your warranty btw

Yeah I know that, no problem. I'll try when I get home tonight, thanks for your help!
I recommend flashing your phone with a pre-rooted Telus ROM via Odin from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/sho...mctr=(not provided)&__utmv=-&__utmk=238585987
Flash Philz custom recovery via Odin from here: http://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte
Now, you'll have a stock rooted ROM with a custom recovery.
