[Q] Boot Loop Help T-Mobile GS3 Hyperdrive Rom - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

I Recently Installed Hyperdrive Rom, But When I Went To Reboot It... It Started To Boot Loop. I Tried To Go Back Into Recovery To Reflash The Rom Or Jus Install A Different Rom... & Even That Started To Boot Loop. Im Pretty Sure That Its A Quick Fix To This, So Hopefully Someone Can Help Me Out (Hyperdrive Rom, TWRP Recovery, T-Mobile GS3)
( NOOB) :crying::crying::crying:

You did a clean install right? Factory reset, wipe cache, and dalvik cache?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app

yes sir

Try flashing a compatible kernel, such as one of ktoonsez in original development.
If that doesn't help you may need to odin back to stock first.
Make a nandroid first if you have any important data.

You should give CWM a shot. It has never failed me before.
Unless you really really prefer TWRP.

[Q] Can I do the maintenance update with different kernel?

Hopefully it's not a dumb question but I can't find the answer anywhere else.
I have a rooted phone w/ CWM and faux's kernel.
No 3rd party ROM installed.
I got the update today. Can I install the update with the kernel or will that do bad things to my phone?
Do I have to go back to a stock kernel and recovery to do that update or is going back to a stock kernel good enough?
I don't mind losing root, I can always reroot it. I just don't want to do something stupid to my phone.

You definitely have to go to stock recovery...i also went back to stock kernel too..then applied them back without error after update

Thanks, another possibly stupid question.
Is there only one stock recovery or are there different versions between the UVKL1 and UVKID recovery?
Will this recovery work with my UVKL1 phone?

It's the same. To prevent having issues, I recommend doing a factory reset before flashing back to stock.
Just back up whatever you don't want erased. You don't have to worry about the external sd, the reset won't touch that.

Can you flash a different kernel after installing the latest update? Yes. Should you if you want a flawless ICS update this Monday and possibly avoid a brick? Probably not. Up to you.
Simply put, NO. As mentioned above Odin fully back to unrooted stock for he update to flash properly. Otherwise you'll have a soft brick on your hands.

Also, if you're on ICS right now, you may get boot loops after flashing back to stock. Just do a factory reset in recovery and you're good to go.

That looks fine. If you're on ICS and reboot after wiping to get into download mode, some apps will automatically install on first boot so you will get boot loops after you flash back to stock. That's fine if you do, just do a factory reset in recovery.

Just as a follow up to my own thread.
I followed this guide to go back to stock and then did the maintenance update.
http://rootzwiki.com/topic/16727-howto-restore-stock-rom-recover-bad-flashes/
I backed up everything just in case but I didn't lose any data and it took about 10 minutes to do everything.
I'm just going to run stock until I get ICS and then reroot again.

I bricked my phone somehow and i need expert help please.

This was in the course of over 20 days.Ok, i was stock rooted, then i flashed CWM, then i flashed AOKP Rom, everything was going smooth. Then i flashed an update to AOKP Rom, then my Data started acting up. Then i flashed Sammy Kernel that goes with AOKP Rom, My data was still acting up. I suspected a corrupt IMEI, so i figured i flash back to stock through odin using stock ATT Images, and try to recover my IMEI. So i flashed Stock ATT image through Odin, but now my phone wont go past the samsung logo. It loads the ATT boot animation, then stays stuck on the samsung logo. Help please.
The expert help you need is to do a full reflash of the phone in ODIN.
When you flashed stock did you also flash the kernel? Might pose an issue
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Try flashing the Sammy kernel in cwm. That should fix you up.

Take out battery. Insert it back, goto recovery(HOME+POWER) & select "wipe data/factory reset". This worked for me!!
Or else, try flashing it again through odin. Ensure that it's the correct firmware suitable for ur device.

U should wipe data and factory reset before and after flashing via odin.
Then it will take about 3.4 mins to start up.

exactly what steps are you taking in recovery to do this? are you coming from stock? i would odin back to stock firmware and have a go at synergy again. there are rooted stock firmware downloads in android development section. after installation/root/custom recovery:
Boot into custom recovery
Select Wipe data/factory reset
Select Wipe Cache
Select Advanced and Wipe Dalvik Cache
Select Mounts and Storage and format /system
Go back out to the main recovery screen and choose the "install .zip from SD Card"
Once the phone is booted, let it sit for 10 minutes, reboot again
I wasn't doing the mount/format step and will it giveme the last option to reboot or will I need to remove the battery?

What state is your phone in right now ?
I assume you can get into recovery mode ? Have you trie dto flahs any other ROM's ?
I just waited 50 mins with the black screen, then I pull the battery turn it on and still the black screen. Then I pull the battery restart into recovery and put cyanogen10 back on. I don't understand why this ROM is different than any other one I have flashed

Going from custom ROM custom to a stock type ROM (Synergy) can create issues. Synergy while a good ROM is a bit buggy at times. Honestly if you want to flash it again I would flash a rooted stoc 4.1.1 ROM and then flash synergy.
It's just a well known issue with going from different type ROM's. Also I prefer to do a full/super wipe if I decide to go to a ported ROM or back from AOKP or something like that

as hednik and i have both stated now, you need to revert to stock before flashing a touchwiz-based rom. the direction you want to go with your device (touchwiz) is a little more complicated than going the aosp-based/source route. be patient, start over from stock, and you'll get there. i would also have a seperate touchwiz custom rom downloaded that you're interested in. in the event your device has nothing but problems with synergy, you could wipe data and flash the different rom to see if it would take instead.
Thanks for the help

[Q] flashing a rom without bricking?

I cant flash a rom and have it work. I have tried several ROMS like aokp, jedi, smooth, jellybeans, etc and they almost always brick. Jedi worked but google services crashed back to back to back to the point where i couldnt even use the phone. does anyone know of a 4.3 rom that works on att sgh-i317?? i basically went down the list on galaxynote2root.com and tried them all but no success.
I have root, have TWRP installed and flash the rom and it bricks. i factory reset first, then install and nothing.
any ideas?

I did these exact steps:
Rooted phone and installed TWRP recovery
put AOKP Rom on SD card and booted into recovery mode
Wiped/Factory reset through recovery
rebooted into recovery
installed AOKP ROM
booted and bricked- hangs at "X" aokp bootup screen

Download your rom and gapps again using a PC...
Then place the files to your SD using a card adapter if no USB connection is possible...
Then fully wipe the device again from within the latest version of TWRP recovery and flash the new downloads ...
You may have a bad flash ...and you are not bricked...g

I did those exact steps and it did not work. i tried flashing pac man rom the last time and it got stuck in a boot loop too. I think there are some files that are corrupt or some temp files somewhere that are preventing a successful flash. my binary flash count was 9. and that was just on this run, ive tried flashing several times before. each time the only way to recover it is hooking the phone up to a pc and using kies to flash back to stock firmware. this sucks.
What version of twrp are you using? I have never had this issue you are having and I have flashed every rom on this forum for our device.

9 counts ??
Uh....yeh...not right ...
Have you messed with device partitions in ODIN ??
If so...something is definitely wrong ...
At this point ...you may want to consider a full return to stock and allow the PIT to properly restore your partitions..
Just follow the return to stock guide (sticky )...in the general section ..
Once restored to stock with a corrected flash counter you can begin again using CF auto root as your root method..
It sounds as if you have root issues and possible partition damage...
One other step you can try first is to boot into download mode and re-root using CF...
That may help....but certainly won't hurt anything...then attempt a clean flash again..
If it fails ...then the return to stock and rooting again seems prudent ...g

Go to wipe menu and then advanced wipe and select dalvik, cache, data, system and internal(optional). I do it three times to make sure. then flash your rom with gapps (if aosp)
