So I have a bit of an issue. No SD cards are able to work on my phone. Back story:
The keys on my keyboard were becoming less responsive, so I thought it'd be a great idea to disassemble the phone and make sure the ribbons were connected and clean out some of the dust. I forgot to remove my SD card while doing so. After rebooting, the SD card I had in, and any of my other SD cards, no longer work in my G2 phone. The SD card is not damaged, card reader shows it and it shows up on other phones. When I have ANY sd card in this phone, the system says it is damaged and cannot read it, might have to format it, and is ultimately unable to do so, and that loop continues.
I read somewhere updating the hboot might resolve this issue? I assumed I ****ed up the hardware somewhere in there? Could it be re-soldered? Also, hboot is version .84, tried running RUU from HTCdev but I'm unable to run that since I'd have to first up/downgrade to 2.16.531.5 I am running Gingerbread 2.3.7, s-off. TBH, I haven't messed around with the rom or anything with this phone in at least a year or more, so it's out of date fo sho.
I tried flashing stock rom through ADB, is that my best option? And from there, run the update from HTCdev? ANY suggestions??
Flashing a new bootloader will almost for sure not help. It sounds like you should just get a new sdcard tray, usually found for $10 or less

Ok, found one for like $8, and i think the issue is with the ribbon that connects from the SD tray, it has a tear on one side of it.
But now my issue is using fastboot to install a new rom.
I used:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
to get to the black screen with HTC, and then tried
fastboot flash zip file.zip
but I get error:
Code:
c:\platform-tools>fastboot flash zip G2_2.16.531.5root.zip
sending 'zip' (119816 KB)... OKAY
writing 'zip'... INFOzip header checking...
INFOzip info parsing...
FAILED (remote: 24 parsing android-info fail)
Any suggestions how to install a rom? The rom I was attempting was a stock, but as long as I figure out how to get ANY rom onto it I'm fine with it!
Thanks

UPDATE:
I went into the #G2root IRC channe;, got some help from Guhl. He had me make a tmpfs drive named sdcard and use this to install a ROM and GAPPS to it, then install them from cwm.
That's a very clever way, if you want to try with fastboot next time see here

hey guys,
tried everything in my knowledge to try root my desire, going through tutorials on this forum and other forums but seem to get stuck in the same place,
when using the r4 or r5 root method on the step2 part where you try push the files to the phone itself , it cannot find the device
'error: device not found'
ive tried rectifying this by making sure usb debuggings on,
my desire is t-mobile branded so ive been using a goldcard, first of al used the gold card generator thanks to klutsh then when i thought that was the problem i tried making my own with the help of the guide on this forum,
,
just seem stuck in a rut at the moment ,
if some one could shed some light spent houses yesterday trying to figure it out
BTW ive used the windows and tinycore methods
my radio is 4.05.00.11
t mobile uk
on 0.75 base and 1.15 rom
You need a gold card, make sure the one u made works! Even try making it again, i was getting the exact same error on my unbranded desire, i tried lyk 10 times, i made a goldcard and was rooted 5 mins later
yeah tried 2 different ways going to try my wifes sd card when shes back also going to try linux
think win xp sp3 has issues connecting to the phone so.....
ill see how linux goes
Maybe its somthing diffrent mate but until i made my goldcard adb was giving me the exact same device nt found error! Can you use fake flash without root? Maybe just try flashing, rootedupdate.zip from recovery?
not tried using fake flash , tried with a different sd and its the same
think must be something to do with the gold card like you said,
what tutorial did you use?

Hey sutty86 I had same problem.I tried rooting unbranded Desire with r6 method. I have windows 7 x64.No luck. Then I switched to Ubuntu x64 and right from start everything gone OK.It is probably windows x64 drivers problem.
I had this problem too on Win7 x86 but I installed HTC Sync and rebooted my computer and it worked like a charm.
Sent from my HTC Desire using Tapatalk
It's a driver issue. As suggested above, double-check the HTC Sync installation or use the Linux rooting method.
If you need to make a Gold Card, try using this tool:

Hello,
I have a phone that is now stuck at white screen with green htc logo after an attempt to downgrade following this guide :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
However i had already downloaded a PC10IMG.zip with this tool :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1521019
I first tried using the tool, but it always failed. It seemed to me the script failed on getting temproot. (I then manually downloaded the PC10IMG.zip in the .bat file just incase it was a problem with the wget it uses or something)
After that i followed the guide instead and gained temproot, changed version and gaining supercid through the goldcard method.
I then tried downgrading using the manual method using the PC10IMG.zip mentioned above (Its alot smaller than the ones mentioned in the guide. I have a suspicion it is for another phone perhaps). Bootloader recognized it and started "upgrade" process as expected. After it worked with that for a while it rebooted and since then I have been stuck on the white/green splash screen on normal boots.
I can still get into Hboot, but I cant do anything there. Nothing seems to work there. Neither volume +/-, trackpad nor powerbutton does anything.
I can also get into fastboot. This seems to work better, but when i try to flash the image then it just gives me :
D:\platform>fastboot-windows flash zip StockRom.zip
sending 'zip' (291447 KB)... FAILED (remote: 02 data length is too large)
HBOOT screen shows me the following:
VISION PVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-0.82.0008
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.08.04.30_M3
I havent tried altering the contents of my SD card in fear of making things even worse.
Any tips/tricks/hint would be greatly appreciated!
Got some rather excellent help from #g2root to fix this today.
My main problem was that I had flashed the wrong img and that my Golden SD was not working correctly. Got that sorted out by using another SD and made it golden in another device.
Then proceeded to upgrade it to the newest g2 software (since that was what i had tried to do in the first place. Namely using the g2 img in a Desire Z device), downgrade it, rooted it and installed the necessary tools to get Andromadus running
Thanks to pierre_ja, skorgon, Uni_Ced and Catherall for the patience, moral support and excellent help! The amount of handholding from pierre_ja was astonishing

Can i ask where you obtained the G2.img file, I am in a similar situation. Thanks

Not with an HTC Vision, you can't... You need an PC to do this.

This is your problem, adb can't see your phone. Was it up and running when you tried this ? If so it's your adb setup. Have you used adb before on this phone ? See my signature for a link to a guide to setting up adb.

For the G2 there is a new program called mr. root, wich makes everything a bit easier, but you still need an computer to do it. So that's correct indeed.
From memory that 99 error means you used htcdev.

The cmd's seem to be working from the cmd prompt. for example the phone did go into boot loader.
The phone is in a state where it will not boot up. Fails on the htc logo.
However boot loader is not functioning, every time it directs me to clock work orange mod screen. Which does not function either
Same problem!!
Hi, im really new here, and i googled the 'symptoms' of my broken HTC desire Z and this thread came up. My phone is showing exactly the same writting as what you described, but i really really dont know why. i dont know what all these technical terms mean/do but i REALLY miss my phone and want it to work again!! I would really really REALLY appreciate any help anyone could offer me, because the warranty is up so i cant send it back!
Thank you so much!
So to get this straight, you've tried to root your phone and it went wrong. If so, can you still get into your recovery?
-Turn off phone, hold down the power and volume up button. Then ou should get your bootloader. Once that's loaded slelect recovery with your volume buttons and confirm (press "enter") by pressing your powerbutton. Then your phone should restart in recovery. If you haven't changed your recovery image, you should be able to get the stock ROM running again.-
Hi there,
well i bricked one SD card in the process so far, not bad
So, here is my problem. I got my RMA Desire back und rooted it with unrevoked. After that installed ginger villain, anyhow i wanted to install myself another ROM which required repartioning sd ext to a larger partition. Smart as I am, I saw that newer versions of cwm can do that for you, so i wanted to update my outdate 2.5.0.7 version to 5.xxxx. Hell it won't work, neither installing via ROM Manager nor installing via cwm itself. Not even via fastboot. No chance there either.
So there i sat, 1 o'clock in the morning and thought why not give some partitioning program a shot, worked fine with my harddrives. this is where i made the fat partition smaller, deleted the ext3 partition since i couldnt resize it, made a 1.6 gig ext3 partition and thought i was king of the hill. yall might know already that i bricked that sd card. Now running on the ****ty 4 gig original one.... that has no ext3 or swap at all.
So, now my question is, how can i update my cwm to something that isnt as outdated as my underwear?! And any way that i could unbrick my fine 16 gig sd card?
thanx in advance and apologies for any grammar or spelling mistakes.
cheers
Are you S-OFF? Please post fastboot output after flashing recovery.

Even tho i checked security off in phone with unrevoked, s-on states the post in Hboot.....
ahyhow.
Installing CWM_Recovery_5.0.2.3.carebear.jr0dd.zip in recovery gives me:
Code:
assert failed: getprp("ro.product.device") == crespo"
getprop("ro.build.product") == "crespo"
E:Error in /sdcard/CWM_Recovery_5.0.2.3.carebear.jr0dd.zip
Status 7
Installation aborted.
Guessing there should be standing desire not crespo.
Anyhow, trying to flash recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img or recovery-clockwork-touch-5.8.0.2-bravo.img via fastboot gives me this:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-bravo.img
sending 'recovery' (3054 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.440s]
writing 'recovery'...
(bootloader) signature checking...
FAILED (remote: signature verify fail)

Did you try flashing it again with signature check disabled? Be careful with this tho, if you bootloader gets messed up you phone will be unbrickable... Where did you get the recovery from?
I did try that.
Thanks for pointing me to S-OFF, that was my problem. I used aplharev to get to S-OFF and then flashed via fastboot cwm touch and now it is actually installed.
at the moment cwm is partitioning my sd card. so hopefully my desire will be up and running in the next half hour.
If anyone is having the same problems, feel free to ask.
for now i am happy
In short, I'm trying to factory reset the phone to it's default settings, but every attempt is met with a failed attempt. Here's the specs
HTC Incredible
Android 2.2
Locked
S-ON
Hboot 1.02.000
Software: 3.26.605.1
Baseband: 2.15.00.07.28
Upgrading using the RUU file, PB3120000_Incredible_C_hboot_1.02.0000_4.08.605.2.exe, does nothing because even when it says it succeeds, the software version is the same. Tried the PB31IMG.zip method doesn't work because I get the error, "Main version is older". Going into recovery mode and resetting from there does nothing either because that fails.
The closest method I've seen which resembles mine is from this thread, but because the phone is deactivated I can't access the market to download and install rom manager to fix what could be a corrupted recovery? On top of that, I spent over an hour working with SDK, and came to the conclusion that I'm out of my depth. If anyone could point me in the right directions.
Edit: Figured out I had the wrong zip file so when I finally got it to update to 4.08.605.2 image, the boot screen is stuck at "HTC Incredible" splash screen, so I'm to assume I bricked it?

Try this ruu thru hboot http://dinc.does-it.net/Stock_Images/4.08.605.15/PB31IMG.zip. If that dosent work i would unlock your bootloader with http://htcdev.com/bootloader. Then flash a custom recovery. Then from recovery try to do a full wipe and a flash of a rom.
How do I get access to the sim card from my computer and install the zip if the phone won't boat? Or is there a way I can still do this through hboot?

Well to put the PB file on the sdcard you would need to remove it from the phone, and then use a pc to put the file on there. You would most likley need an adapter, as most card readers dont do micro sd. However you can use fastboot to flash a pb file. Place the PB file on your pc in the same folder as fastboot.exe. Then type the folowing one at a time.
Code:
fastboot oem rebootRUU
Code:
fastboot flash zip PB31IMG.zip
Also unlocking the bootloader, and flashing a recovery only requires the use of fastboot.
EDIT: I guess i should have asked first if you have fastboot adb and their drivers setup on your pc? And if you know how to use them?
Sorry bout not mentioning I'm still a noob at this but for the most part I'm pretty tech savvy (just with iphones shhhh), I was in the middle of updating my progress, and I just finished installing SDK and recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-vivo.img, so now after installing the PB zip udate I got this message, "Failed (remote: 99 unknown fail)". The latest 4.08.605.15. Wait that is not a correct recovery for this phone. So you are unlocked now? If so that is why the fastboot ruu failed, the bootloader must be locked.

Well you could try thay ruu in the post above, or go to recovery, do a wipe, and flash a rom.

Lol we kind of have two different things going here, and they kind of conflict. So either stay locked and try that othet ruu, or unlock again and wipe and flash a rom with cwm.
Ok, it succesfully mounted that last image you linked to me. Only thing now after it finished on the command prompt, looking at the phone now and it's sitting there with the HTC logo, a black background, and a finished green bar. Should I just reboot it or keep waiting?

This is gonna be long, so BIG thanx in advance for reading this post.
I will give as much info as possible to let u guys better determine whats going on, be prepared for a long read.
I have been fiddling with android 4-5 years ago, but that's it, so I consider my self a noob.
here it goes...
1) I have purchased an "international ver. HTC M8 brand new" from amazon third party seller for 200.00 USD
2) came with many evidence showing it's not brand new, but well disguised to look like new. See details:
1. I can tell it's a resealed package from experience; cable is a generic one that tries to mimic the original HTC cable, and it only charges (no data transfer). The charge brick has no film and has micro scratches.
2. Phone has no carrier logo, boot screen has no carrier logo, system has no carrier bloatware. The firmware seems to be unlocked/developer, but the CID(T-MOB010) and MID(0P6B13000) of the phone is T-Mobile!
3. As a brand new phone, it came rooted and S-Off.
4. OTA update fails indicating device has been modified.
3) Coming from a marshmallow phone, I decided to manual upgrade to Android 6. I downloaded the unlocked/developer & T-Mobile RUU from HTC, but both update fails at the black screen with silver HTC logo. (I forgot to mark down the error code, since I'm still a bit rusty from couple of years not digging this deep.)
4) I went ahead and unlocked the bootloader through HTC dev, then performed the same RUU. Same result.
5) I setup adb, then performed CID and MID change to make it the Dev ver. (BS_US002 + 0P6B12000). Ran the same RUU, same result.
6) Then I extracted the zip from the RUU and placed it in the ext sd to flash in hboot. Result was an error of file being too big.
7) I installed TWRP recovery, used it to flash the zip, received error of extraction fail. performed RUU, same result as above, noticed the error 155.
8) Next at fastboot usb, performed command <fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip> ends up with FAIL and Remote: not allowed message.
9) Finally, I tried RUU mode. Ended with the 32 header error:
Code:
C:\fastboot-win>adb reboot bootloader
C:\fastboot-win>fastboot oem rebootRUU
...
(bootloader) Start Verify: 0
OKAY [ 0.031s]
finished. total time: 0.031s
C:\fastboot-win>fastboot flash zip 0P6BIMG.zip
sending 'zip' (1537810 KB)...
OKAY [ 50.275s]
writing 'zip'...
(bootloader) zip header checking...
(bootloader) shift signature_size for header checking...
FAILED (remote: 32 header error)
finished. total time: 50.415s
C:\fastboot-win>
which according to Sneakyghost's post, he doesn't know what is the cause

I have dug through many xda post and google, but had no luck.
I felt pretty helpless and frustrated now, makes me wonder what is going on with this phone.
This is gonna be my last resort, pls if someone knows what's going on and how to fix this, teach me, Please!
feel free to ask about more info, I will try to explain in further details.
I give you the basic idea as I'm away from my PC.
1. To install the official marshmallow RUU exe, you need to fastboot flash its firmware first.
You should be able to find the official firmware in my thread linked in my signature on post #5
2. To fastboot flash a rom.zip, you need to use htc_fastboot not the generic fastboot which gave you the error.
Read this for 3 options on how to install rom.zip - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=67314040&postcount=1749
