Hey guys. This was shared in an off topic post earlier. Since that person still hasn't created a post about it, I figured I'd go ahead and let you all know about it.
This app is simple, it allows you to change your led light on the home button to any color you want for a very large amount of apps. It's free, go check it out. Works great.

I tried the app, but even when I had it set to "brightest", it seemed to have dulled the LED to a glow that was much less than normal. Did you have a different result?
Also, I could not get the LED to work with pink, or yellow, or orange. Orange did light up, but it appeared to be more of a very dull red. Did you experience something different?

Pink works pretty well, orange was weird so I made my own custom orange that looks better. Yellow was fine.
And take it off the charger, when it's plugged in the lights dull. I had the same issue but as soon as I removed the charger and pressed the test notification button, I got full brightness.

Reinstalled the app, and you were correct about the brightness of the LED when detached from external power. The issue i have now is that even with the app enabled it does not seem to bypass the stock lighting setup. none of the changes i made seem to have taken effect. I went into the phone's settings and eve tried disabling the LED, but that didn't allow the LightManager to take over, so i re-enabled it.
So, what do I need to do to disable the stock lighting arrangement and allow Lightmanager to take over?
The only thing that seems to partially work is that I had set the LED to go yellow on a missed call. I called my phone from a landline and didn't answer it. Once the phone registered that I had missed a call, the LED lit up yellow once and then went dark, and did not repeat or anything.
Could you please elaborate on what settings you needed to change to make this work.

All I did was turn off the stock home button led settings under display settings for the phone. If you leave then on, they will conflict with the app and not repeat flash.

Im going with a bug
At the moment the leds hex codes sent through to the US versions of the S3 are all messed up. This is common across all apps that try to control the led color and is certainly a bug in the samsung builds for the US editions (it works on the euro ones)
I'm looking into rooted users being able to control the colors better by bypassing android and using unix to send commands to the device. We've got red, green and blue working but not any color mixing yet.
thanks so much andrew! Look forward to using this when you are finished!

If we're rooted already and using the app, what do we need to do to get it to work without the constant green LED? Or are you saying you have a modified version of the app that works with rooted US SGSIII's? Can you post that for testing purposes? I'm good with three color for not as long as the green light does not stay lit!
Im getting close to a having a beta ready.
Root will be required until samdung sort out their issues with the led.

I am hopping the updated version will also have a fix for the issue when it triggers an speach alert whenever you open a folder on the TWlauncher ("A folder is opened", "a folder is closed", whatever the English version says).
Then I will buy the full app.

Having the notification led back was one of the biggest wins on this phone for me (having come from a skyrocket 2 days ago). not having a notification led has been bugging me since I came from blackberry. I had an app on my bold that could make calls, texts, and emails different colors, combinations or patterns. Would like this app to make the led flash while ringing too, not just a missed call.

Where did you get the rooted version of LightFlow? Just download the market version and it will ask for root? I don't see any of those details on the blog by the author.... just see where he said he's been messing with the root version, not posting it for download, do you have a link to it somewhere?
Unless you mean the Lite version, where he states this:

the LED controls in the ROMs is nice but kinda sucks as it doesnt cycle thru the lights... meaning if i have a missed call (red), voice mail (purple) and a SMS (blue) only my red light will only flash... will not cycle thru meaning with lightflow, it would flash red, then purple, then blue... the built in one in the ROMs will only show red...
just an fyi

I just saw a video of Blackberry 10 - not to say that I would ever go back to Blackberry, but there is a very nice camera feature that they made public called Time Warp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF2cLwPHaNY)
Does anyone know if Android has an app that can also do what is shown in the video?
Basically, the camera app allows you to change someone's face that blinked to seconds later where they weren't blinking. It probably is similar to the burst show using Samsung's camera app, but instead of choosing an entirely new picture, you only change the person's face. This would make sense if there are two people in the picture and one picture one person has their eyes open and the other close and vise versa.
Thanks in advance.

Just wondering if the RIM camera would allow one to adjust the expressions of all the people in the photo independently. For instance can one also chose a different moment for the guy in the photo ? That would be really cool, however I think it might not be the case as one would then have to interpolate the background.
Edit : I mean the photo they show in the youtube video

That's a nice feature, but that only takes one person to smile. RIM's feature allows you to pick the best facial expression from multiple people individually in a picture.

iOS has an app called GroupShot that does just that. You can take a lot of photos and then highlight someones face and it'll show you that persons face in every shot and you can pick which you like best and it'll intelligently put it in the photo without it looking like it's been pasted it. It's a very smart app.
Only problem, nothing like this on Android yet.
I think some one needs to port over that blackberry ten camera app to android... I would try to do it but I have no programming skills really.. sad..

New thread with updated ButtonLED.
Everything below this point is outdated.
Hey guys,
I've been fiddling around Tasker for the last few weeks and finally decided to create a fully functional app using it.
At this point, some of you will be thinking "Another useless, ugly, cluttered Tasker created app that does something nobody needs".
Well, then, I'll try to prove you wrong
Note: You do not need Tasker to use the app.
App Description:
ButtonLED is similar to NoLED: it allows you to have LED like notifications without actually having the LED light. However, NoLED uses uses your screen; ButtonLED only uses the hardware buttons' backlight (your screen stays off). It's customizable to an extent, with more to come depending on feedback and suggestions.
Features:
Pause for some user defined time on proximity (e.g. if phone is turned down, or is in your pocket);
Turn button backlight for X seconds, then off for Y seconds;
Should work on all devices since the user can locate the brightness file;
Notification exceptions (e.g. to ignore all notification that contain "Hello", add *Hello* to the exception list)
Logs
Compatibility:
It should work on all rooted devices. It will work out of the box (once you open it) for Samsung Galaxy Ace i devices (Galaxy Ace users will probably need to locate the brightness file), which is why I'm choosing to offer it for testing here. I'll release it in the Android Apps and Games section if the reviews are favorable. If not, I'll take their content into consideration and improve it before release it there.
Running the app:
Install, open, enable in accessibility. Done. You may need to select a different brightness file.
You may also want to customize the options.
On the Galaxy Ace i, the brightness file is located at:
/sys/devices/platform/bcm21553-leds/leds/button-backlight/brightness

Changelog:
V1.1 (24/10/12):
Missed call/Unread text notifications support. (can someone confirm ButtonLED v1.0 doesn't detect them? I'm almost certain it won't do anything for missed called/unread texts, but I'd rather be certain about it)
Optional permanent notification.
Option to use flashlight instead of the hard buttons' LED light.
Test button that will turn on and off the LED/flashlight.

Fantastic app, it´s all I needed.
Really a minimalistic jewel.
Thanks.

Added in v1.1, will release it later.
Would you like to use both (button + flashlight) or just one at the same time? In v1.1, you can only use one at a time, but I could change that.

I'm not sure. It might be because it's not compatible with JB. Didn't think this would be an issue first, since our devices only support GB. Forgot about the regular Ace's custom ROMs.
I'll release a JB apk later, and hope it works.

Test button added to v1.1 so you can make sure it will work.
Other than that, just wait for a notification (e.g. WhatsApp) while your screen is off.

Should be fixed in v1.1. Actually, it shouldn't be happening in v1.0 since I've already included a quick check that resets the brightness to 0, but I altered a few things in v1.1 that should make it fail proof.
@Qeemi/Toscanitex Thank you guys
Changelog of the upcoming v1.1 version:
Missed call/Unread text notifications support. (can someone confirm ButtonLED v1.0 doesn't detect them? I'm almost certain it won't do anything for missed called/unread texts, but I'd rather be certain about it)
Optional permanent notification.
Use flashlight instead of the hard buttons' LED light.
Test button that will turn on and off the LED/flashlight.
Other minor modifications.
I'll upload it as soon as I can, probably in the next 24 hours.
Keep the comments coming!
Also, if you think it's read to be released in the general Android Apps and Games section, please say so.
I'll get much more reviews, bug reports and suggestions there which will allow faster development if time allows it, but I don't want to release something unfinished there.
Good luck!

V1.1 released
You may notice it now needs more permissions. This is for the missed call/unread text notification support, and for the flashlight.

No idea why that's happening, sorry. It could be an issue with your ROM, you might want to check logcats if you want.

You can already do that: open ButtonLED, select "Permanent notification" and then press the "X" button.

I will try the app on a stock based rom and on cm9. I'll tell you what it does
EDIT: I installed it succesfully on cm9.
I Will try stocklite v7.1 (stock based 2.3.6) within 3 days.

Ok, Houston, have a few situations here... with v1.1
The camera led it´s not working with buttonled, no way.
The log does not work.
After 5 hs. the battery power is on 20% , (only wifi is on)
So back to v1.0 and stay here for a moment.
(to be fair v1.0 it´s all I need, but...
Info about the phone:
GT-5830L Stock ROM, apps managed by link2sd.
AV: 2.3.4 / S5830LUBKPF
Kernel: 2.6.35.7-perf-cl567486 [email protected] #1
Rooted.

About the camera LED, just to make sure:
Open ButtonLED;
Select "Use flashlight ...";
Press the "✓" button;
Select "Test ButtonLED". Your flashlight should turn on and off.
If it doesn't work, and if you have Tasker (or if you can install the trial version), can you try creating a simple task that will turn the "Torch" on then off? Just to make sure that Tasker feature is compatible with your phone (the documentation says it's not compatible with all phones).
Regarding the battery, I don't see why that would happen, unless you left your phone with ButtonLED active for those five hours (when I say active, I mean turning your LED on and off), especially that nothing, battery wise, has changed from v1.0 to v1.1.
Did you flash a new ROM lately? If so, try recalibrating your battery.
For the logs, what exactly do you mean when you say they don't work?
Are they inaccurate? In that case, I fixed it in v1.2. It was a slight issue causing skipped notifications to be displayed as "processed" in the logs (e.g. if your screen is on, ButtonLED will skip a notification; v1.1 will mark it as processed in the logs, tho).
If it's something else (e.g. logs not showing up, some other issue), please specify.
Thanks for the reports
Ok..thank you so much ..

I just remembered that pushing the app using adb should give you more information about why the installation failed, so please try that.
Hi, I found this app on Tasker groups (thanks to the author)
However on my device (galaxy s2 with cyanogen10) I have no /sys/devices/platform/*-leds/leds/ and on tasker Set Light says it's not available on my device...
It's a ROM problem I suppose, because keys backlight are present (as hardware) and supported by the ROM (they turn on and there is an option to use or not use them!). Should I ask to cyanogen developers?
again thanks

Yeah, it's probably hidden somewhere else.
Did some googling and found that for the One X (running CM10), it's /sys/devices/platform/msm_ssbi.0/pm8921-core/pm8xxx-led/leds/button-backlight/currents
Other users say that /sys/class/leds/button-backlight/brightness works instead.
So you could also try looking for something similar.
Make sure to report back once you find it
Hello,
I was wondering if it's possibile to choose specific color for the LED-light when a notification pops-up.
Like:
Red with Gmail
Blue with Facebook
Green with WhatsApp
Thank you!
This should be possible, try "Lightflow"

No problem, glad it worked for you
Doesnt work for me.
Things get crazy with light flow on the gn2. It works sort of, but there is something wrong.
Light flow made my phone talk to me when I didn't want it to.
"The folder is open"
"The folder is closed"
I have go SMS and by default the notification led is yellow.
IT wouldnt do anything for me. I could see the led light up for the test, but otherwise it just wouldnt do anything.
