I just saw a video of Blackberry 10 - not to say that I would ever go back to Blackberry, but there is a very nice camera feature that they made public called Time Warp (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hF2cLwPHaNY)
Does anyone know if Android has an app that can also do what is shown in the video?
Basically, the camera app allows you to change someone's face that blinked to seconds later where they weren't blinking. It probably is similar to the burst show using Samsung's camera app, but instead of choosing an entirely new picture, you only change the person's face. This would make sense if there are two people in the picture and one picture one person has their eyes open and the other close and vise versa.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: sorry, I meant to post this in the Q/A forum. If a mod reads this, please move it if possible or just delete it.

that might be the ONLY cool thing RIM has done in the past 8 million years. What's a RIM Job?
That's remarkable.

You know there is a similar-ish feature in the galaxy S3 ? It's called smile shot, and as much as the interface is not as fancy as RIM's one, it does basically the same thing!

Just wondering if the RIM camera would allow one to adjust the expressions of all the people in the photo independently. For instance can one also chose a different moment for the guy in the photo ? That would be really cool, however I think it might not be the case as one would then have to interpolate the background.
Edit : I mean the photo they show in the youtube video

I watched another youtube video of RIM's camera app and yes, you can do that. Basically manipulate each persons facial expression independently to simulate something happened that really didn't.

That's a nice feature, but that only takes one person to smile. RIM's feature allows you to pick the best facial expression from multiple people individually in a picture.
In the newest note II Video they introduced this same feature in the new camera app. Extract the app from drewgaren's ROM which has the note II's camera apk?

iOS has an app called GroupShot that does just that. You can take a lot of photos and then highlight someones face and it'll show you that persons face in every shot and you can pick which you like best and it'll intelligently put it in the photo without it looking like it's been pasted it. It's a very smart app.
Only problem, nothing like this on Android yet.
I think some one needs to port over that blackberry ten camera app to android... I would try to do it but I have no programming skills really.. sad..

You'll have to change your launcher for that sort of functionality.
For example, Nova Launcher Prime (paid version) gives you access to Gestures like swipe up, swipe down, double tap, triple tap, two-finger swipes etc.
You can disable double tapping home button opening s voice in s voice settings. You can use Home2 to choose a new action for double tap.

I will admit, I am a total newbie to Android. I just switch from ios a couple days ago.
Thank you both for your tips on Nova and GMD Gesture Control. Any preference or tips on which ones (if there are others) are your favorites?
Does changing the launcher affect the performance of the phone? In the iOS world, skins have a magical way of slowing this wayyyy down. Sorry if this is already obvious to everyone else. Thanks for your tips.

Thats because sorcery has to be worked and inject around the ios machinery. This is basically turning off one program and turning on another. Any performance problems will be because of the coding of the launcher, and that willl be while you're actively using it (looking at home screens and app drawers) but not while running apps.

Android destroys the competition? Many at certain aspects, but I can't say so for an activator equivalent in android. Activator allowed remapping of hardware buttons to music controls. Where is this? Why can't I hold down both volume buttons to pause? Why can't I long hold volume up to skip to next track even when my phone display is off? Where is this simple functionality that I loved for music on my iPhone? Because... I just love to have to turn on the display to pause or play music. If it exists, and I haven't found it, maybe I'll agree with you.

Because it's likely nobody cares enough to make it happen. Lack of some "features" in comparison, esp when looking at mobilesubstrate hooks, doesn't somehow make one better or worse or "omg how suck it's open so where is it????"

Activator for iOS was so good.
People, we are looking for an app that can perform actions (like toggling airplane mode / bluetooth / wifi /...) when you press / long hold / short hold / double press / tripple press / .. a physical button on android phone, like the home button or sleep button..
That's what activator does on iOS. And also, you can press your button and make your customly chosen action happen from anywhere, so it doesn't matter on which app.. you are while doing it.
It was great on my ipod touch and it surprises me that there ain't such app for android :silly:
So... anyone found anything yet?

Nope.. there's nothing. The closest thing I found was an app called VolumeNext. But, it gives you crap control, only preset remaps that only do what the developer wanted.
I'm going back to iphone soon as my contract is up. I guess android devs don't use their phones to listen to music. Oh well.
Try "gmd control" from playstore or lmt (xda)

It's really a shame that no one has figured this out yet. It's also disappointing to see the ignorance of android users that have obviously never touched a jailbroken iOS device. I'm a seasoned user of both, and currently use a nexus 5, coming from a 4, and 4 iphones before that. With that said, not having a activator equivalent for android just downright sucks. I want to be able to hold my power button and get to voice search or google now, double click to turn on flashlight, hold volume up for next track. Google now is superior to siri, unfortunately having to look down at your phone to unlock and swipe is a crutch.
Can someone please please get this working... will this have to be a modified kernel?
So, I had an idea this afternoon that it would be convenient, if you are a DashClock Widget user, to be able to put your phone to sleep via a DashClock extension. If possible, this would help reduce wear and tear on the power button, and allow you to put the phone to sleep quicker than other options.
I turn the screen on to check various statuses using dashclock, and frequently just need to put it back to sleep again, so something like this, I thought, would be nice to have, as it allows me to more quickly / conveniently put the phone back to sleep after checking, without having to use the power button.
The problem is, Google does not expose the PowerManger "goToSleep" method to non-system apps for security reasons.
However, if we have root, I can make it a system app by signing it with CM keys, in order to be granted the necessary permissions to pull it off. This is why this is a CM/AOSP specific "system app" extension. I'm not sure if it will work on other non-CM based ROM as a result, but if you'd like to try, please do so and report back. If the extension doesn't appear after flashing, or it force closes upon clicking, this indicates it is not compatible with your ROM.
If interested in using, this is what you will see once installing:

Attached is a signed zip to flash via recovery (since it needs to be pushed to /system/app).
Figured others may find it useful as well, so thought I'd share.

Ah, didn't think about that, as I don't use a pattern lock.
This is a limitation of how DashClock extensions work. Since the original "intent" (no pun intended) is to click an extension, for which DashClock unlocks the screen and it takes you to the particular app (email, weather, etc), all you can pass to the DashClock API in an intent to launch a particular app, activity, etc.
I'm assuming the same happens for you when clicking any other DashClock extension when having a pattern / pin unlock in place?
I can't put the phone directly to sleep as a result, but rather, have to instruct DashClock to launch an intent (which then unlocks the screen), and the intent issues the goToSleep method. Unfortunately, I don't think there is a way around it, given DashClock's primary purpose for extensions.

Interesting.
I wanted to hedge my bets and play it safe by assuming only CM. Thanks for the confirmation. I'm guessing in light of this, that perhaps any non-stock ROM (AOSP based) ROM that shares similar keys may work.
If you attempt to install, and you simply don't see the extension listed in DashClock, or it force closes when clicking, this is most likely a result of lack of permissions to execute.
If anyone tries running on any other ROMs, please report back, and I'll update the OP.

For some reason, Nest continues to keep their API private, so that third parties can't easily interface with it, but I found some documentation out there where someone has reversed engineered much of the API calls.
Based on the documentation, I put together a little Nest DashClock extension to display various statuses as reported by my thermostat, which I think is pretty cool.

Wish I could. Given the API is private, I am using a PHP server the extension makes calls to, and the PHP server calls Nest, using my hard coded device ids, username, password, etc., which returns back to the phone some JSON formatted data to parse. So, right now, it's not "portable" in any way.
If I get a chance, I want to try and think of a way to make it more universal, but right now, it is very specific to my environment.

JsChiSurf, How did you make your dashclock look that AWSOME Jellybean style?
- there is no line under the clock so the extensions becomes right under it.
- the clock is in the middle and not aligned to the left side.

Ha, funny thing is, the removed line is a by-product of the mod I did here for conditionally removing the clock when installing DashClock on the homescreen. Since it doesn't make sense to have the line when the clock is gone, I just removed the line all together.
The clock being centered is just an option in the 'Advanced' settings for DashClock directly.
So what should i do to remove the line? ( No contact for the extension you made in this threade) , do i have to still download your mod?
Thanks so much!
Very nice. You should upload it to the play store. You'll get a million downloads.
I wish I didn't have to swipe it to unlock it when the clock is minimized.

Unfortunately, I can't override the behavior of DashClock itself, and since this is what it does for all extensions, I don't have the ability to do anything different for the sleep extension (though I wish I could).

Reinstalled the app, and you were correct about the brightness of the LED when detached from external power. The issue i have now is that even with the app enabled it does not seem to bypass the stock lighting setup. none of the changes i made seem to have taken effect. I went into the phone's settings and eve tried disabling the LED, but that didn't allow the LightManager to take over, so i re-enabled it.
So, what do I need to do to disable the stock lighting arrangement and allow Lightmanager to take over?
The only thing that seems to partially work is that I had set the LED to go yellow on a missed call. I called my phone from a landline and didn't answer it. Once the phone registered that I had missed a call, the LED lit up yellow once and then went dark, and did not repeat or anything.
Could you please elaborate on what settings you needed to change to make this work.

All I did was turn off the stock home button led settings under display settings for the phone. If you leave then on, they will conflict with the app and not repeat flash.

Had you put your thread in themes and apps I would have seen it and not made this thread. I'm not going to check every section to see if someone made a thread but put it in the wrong section before I post.
I don't care anyways. Request to have your thread moved to the correct area then report my thread to a moderator if you want. Was just trying to help people, not steal your thunder.

I didn't say u were. I have no thunder to steal. And I did search, under themes and apps where you would have posted your thread if you had read the rules. Anyways, I'm not much for virtual **** measuring. It's in two places for now I guess. Like I said, request yours to be moved to themes and apps and I'll have mine closed once it's here.

Hey guys. This was shared in an off topic post earlier. Since that person still hasn't created a post about it, I figured I'd go ahead and let you all know about it.
This app is simple, it allows you to change your led light on the home button to any color you want for a very large amount of apps. It's free, go check it out. Works great.

In fact this app does support contacts. Click on missed call, then at the bottom there is an option to add individual contact colors.

Hi,
One of my favorite free apps on my galaxy S4 is "Calls Recall" which allows for automatic recording of all calls in and out without any beeps or fees. I mainly use it to not forget details when calling a store so i don't have to write stuff down.
Now I consider buying the Nexus 5x but would first want to know if that app works on it, so would anybody be so kind to just try it out. It's a simple free install.
To find the app just google "calls recall app" (as new user i can't post external links apparently). Just the regular free version, not the Pro version which you may also find. Just do a phone call with somebody (or let somebody call you) and see if it records fine and how good the quality is of you and the other person. The only special setting (wrench top right) is "record from LINE" on or off. Let me know if this works with LINE on which normally gives better quality on both sides.
Thanks alot to anybody who could test this for me. Maybe the app is also useful to you.
PS. aside from this app, any other (free) call recorder apps you know which record all calls in and out automatically without any annoying beeps or having to pay fees or anything. Thanks again.
Nobody can help with this?
Most people don't use it due to the legal issues that change from place to place. An example is that call recording is legal where my brother lives but not where I do so if he records my call without my permission (before anything is said) then I could have him arrested.

Hello. The app doesn't work. In fact, no recording app works with nexus 5x or 6p, as it does on samsung or lg generic phones. There are some apps which promises you that they work on nexus phones, but the recording is very bad and inconsistent, meaning that sometimes it works (bad), sometimes not at all.

This app actually does works on the Galaxy S4! Can you give the latest version a try on the nexus 5x please and see if it works? You can find it here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eupheme.callrecorder Please let me know how it goes and make sure to try with "record from LINE" on or off in the settings. That's the only setting you might need to change.

The app works on the s4 because they use the same kernel as they do in the EU devices that has call recording built in. Call recording needs to be added to the kernel.

No Im saying that Samsung has long had call recording built into their version of android. These devices are only released in EU as in the states call recording is on the verge of illegal depending on where you are. As google is a US based company call recording is never built into their kernels. So what Im saying is that if you want it to work on the nexus you will have to make a custom kernel with it enabled.
On the homepage of this apps they say: "Calls Recall supports Android 2.3.4+. It will run if your phone meets this requirement."
So if you have a recent android version it should work apparently.
Nobody here who has a Nexus 5x and could give it a go? It will only take a couple of minutes.

You cant believe those in the least. The first give away is the android version. There was no official 2.3.4 version issued on devices. The only devices that ran that were Asian knock off devices.
You can search for the info and see that it needs to be built into the kernel.
Most here dont mess with call recording due to legal issues.
When using speakerphone during a call, should that allow you to record both sides or not? Just wondering. BTW, where i live recording calls is legal.
Otherwise i guess i'd have to root it. I haven't done this before. I found info about how to root but then you need to install a specific rom for this to work so what do i look for? Thanks again for the help.

It's also not just about where you live. You have to take into account where the person your talking to lives. Like with me. It's legal where my brother is but not where I live so if he records my call I can have him arrested.

I'm pretty sure all he has to do is tell you the conversation is being recorded. Think about the last time you called any customer support. 'this call is being recorded for quality assurance' or some BS.

That depends on where you live. Yes he would have to tell them before the call even starts. Here they cant record any calls so I have to tell them where I live so they stop the recording.

Unless you live in Vermont and probably not even then, if you inform the person they are being recorded you are fine. See below.

Also, did you get best result with "record from line" on or off (settings)? Thanks again.

Quality was OK on speaker. My side of the conversation sounded better than the other end though. It simply wouldn't work with record from line enabled.

It says "Failed to record". Was that with line enabled?
Also, i'm not sure if you used the app i was referring to. The interface looks different. To clarify, i was referring to this Calls Recall app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eupheme.callrecorder see also the 2 screenshots below. Is this the app you used as maybe there are different apps with similar names. Thanks again.

Does anyone know if the HTC 10 will have a car app similar to the one on he M8?
Thanks in advance.
No it does not have it, and will not have it, let me share my opinion with you, that app is very outdated now, its not very exciting for today's standard, the look is boring and even HTC knows this, this is one of the reasons why its discontinued.
Want a better more 2016/modern experience? Ever heard of Android Auto? I'm sure you have, but doesn't it suck that you have to have some fancy new car stereo in order to use this? what if I told you there was an app that lets you have an Android Auto like experience right on your phone! without the need for a new stereo, just dock your phone like you would regularly with the HTC App.
Automate (Android Auto style Car App)
Automate is good, but I prefer the larger icons. I use Ultimate Car Dock. It has pretty much the same functionality of the HTC Car app, but it doesn't disable the notification pulldown or recent apps, which I hated about the Car app. Try them both and see which one you like. The UCD dev is also extremely responsive to feedback and questions, which is always nice.

Android Auto is pointless, as it also means buying either a new car or at least a new headset, the HTC app while msybe "outdated" the one thing HTC git right in its handsets was the car app, the music app and the photo gallery, losing these from the HTC 10 is actually a great loss especially when it's something you use daily, and it's was not locked into bloody Google apps which are mostly ****e
I've side loaded all three apps, only issue is the car app doesn't allow music control from its screen anymore ... hopefully I'll find a version that does or HTC will do the right thing and bring back those apps

You don't need to buy anything with the app I posted, it just makes it look more modern "like" android auto but its like an HTC app with more features, and full voice control, which you shouldn't be messing with your phone while your driving anyways, just try it out, its not "The" Android Auto, its an app only, no purchasing anything.
