Flash latest rom
Flash the latest rom to the phone via odin if you still dont have a baseband afterward find a shop that has nspro, z3x etc and have them reset the efs. If you still do not have a baseband there is a big chance it is a hardware issue.

[Q] N7100 - Baseband is unknown, IMEI is unknown - recovery?

Hi,
What's the current status with recovering IMEI or the EFS for a N7100 phone?
Basically, we have a Samsung Galaxy Note II (GSM Non-LTE).
The baseband version is reporting as "Unknown", and the IMEI is also "Unknown".
They didn't take an EFS backup beforehand.
Is there an easy way to restore the EFS, or write the IMEI back to the device?
Cheers,
Victor

Sorry to hear that, no choice at all. Send to Samsung service centre and pay about 150 usd.

You can try to flash an official firmware but it depends on what you did b4...
Yes, flashing stock ROM might help. This happened to me when I tried using mobile odin to flash newer ROM and after reboot it had no IMEI, nothing. I freaked out but luckily flashing stock ROM through ODIN (not mobile which I'll never use again!) solved the issue. Now I have EFS backup

So I have just had the Unknown Baseband / IMEI issue and have been looking around for a solution. After searching threads like these I was fully expecting to have to send it to Samsung - a firmware flash did not help, neither did Kies emergency recovery & I didn't have a backup.
Well, I finally found a tool called EFS Professional here on XDA which claimed to be able to fix damaged EFS partitions - and sure enough it fixed mine! Phew! That was worring for a while - hope it helps others! It goes without saying I donated to the developer - it has saved me a ton of grief!

I can't remember exactly, as it was some time ago, but it wasn't difficult to find - just connect your device and look through the UI.

Repair it
Try with Z3X box. I just did it and works fine . The option repair and inside you have the option RESET EFS. Once the phone reboot repair your imei.

Just bought note 2 - Have I broke it already!? Help please.

Hello,
So bought my note 2 from amazon, international version, sim free.
So i rooted it and fired a custom firmware on it.
Decided i prefer having the functionality of the s pen and wanted to reinstall the original f/w.
So managed to get an original samsung firmware (BTU) csc.
All is well on it apart from my sim card does not work in it (no service).
works fine in my old phone still.
It doesn't allow me to update it over the air and kies is a nightmare.
So im stuck with a tablet at the moment that I cant update.
I think I may not have the correct original firmware but I dont know how to determine which one will work!
Any input would be appreciated....
Thanks
Dan
You seem to have stumbled upon the problem introduced by Samsung in their newest kernels (they are used in newer ROMs).
The kernels cause IMEI number to not be recognised after flashing old firmware once the new one was installed. The only recourse is to root again and flash back one of the newer roms (Phoenix, Omega or Android Revolution will do nicely) or try to find original Samsung firmware for your region, but it has to be one of DM6, DF1 or DG1 at the end of the name and flash it using Odin.
Look here and remember to match your phone model number as well as firmware region.

Efs partition is where your phones unique identifiers like imei are stored. If it gets damaged or wiped and you have no backup then your phone is a brick, pure and simple.

Try and Flash an official dme6 or dmf firmware as per above poster. If imei is still blank then your phone is a brick.
I don't know why there are so many how to root blogs on the Internet and none of them tell you how to back up efs or why it's critical. It's a complete tragedy.
I've had to restore imei once to save my gs3. Was very lucky I'd flashed an omega rom earlier and the aroma installer asked me if I'd like to do a backup and told me it's important. I heeded the developers advice and backed up said files to drop box. Now I always do it immediately after rooting - all custom recoveries give an option to back up efs.
I hope it's not too late, it's sad for people to have to learn the hard way, best of luck.

Ive just read that if you flash the latest modem you should be alright. The post to guide you on this is by Dr Ketan in the original android development section.
I dont think your phone is bricked I think if you flash the very latest modem you should be alright. Just remember when flashing anything to your phone you should always make a nandroid back up first and copy it to your pc just in case for safe keeping plus a copy of efs folder. I hope for your sake you can sort this. And remember to read thoroughly all instructions before anything else. Look here and click the read this first it should help you..

Well I flashed the oldest note 2 rom I could find 4.1.1 and I have an imei number back!
Still won't connect to my phone network.
I does show networks now at least!
Emergency calls only.
So if I install the new modem on this old firmware would that work?

Could I just flash any of them? Even the Indian one?

I'd suggest you backup your efs before trying anything else.
Does your baseband version display now?
If you've already had your baseband updated to the new versions then you can't use it with Perseus kernel. The new modems are interdependent to the new kernels and Perseus hasn't been updated in awhile.
If baseband is newer one then you need an up to date kernel and flashing a newer firmware will obviously address this.

You have nothing to lose at the moment your phone is a semi brick. I think by reading Dr Ketans guide you will be able to get that phone working again. I take no responsibility from the following link but I think you need to give it a go. If you havent backwd up your efs folder than this link may help you. Id say download this latest modem and recovery and again I take no responsibility for your device.

i don't have backup of EFS
i am running custom rom and works fine i get my real IMEI but when i install n7100 stock rom with kies or odin i get 0049 fake IMEI and i can't use my phone for calling and all
i want to go back to stock so bed but i cant trying everyday LOL
help if you know how to do it...
Only way to go back is to have previously backed up your efs partition, while you were on your stock rom. Then once you downgrade to older version modem/rom simply restore your efs.

I replied on other thread(my prerooted)
Flashing latest ME6/MF2/MG1 should solve this.
OR simply you can flash modem, you can find modem on my All in one thread(look my signature) post #6
And don't flash 4.1.1 , it can brick device.

Please stop creating duplicate threads for the same issue. In any case, changing your IMEI is a banned topic on XDA as its illegal in most countries,
You should have taken a backup of your efs partition before you started messing around (this is in all the guides). If you didn't then that's your fault and your loss.

Check whether you ESN is correct. If it is corrupted you might have to do a EFS restore from a back up. I hope you have a EFS back up?
All steps can be found in this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2536418
In short you just have to download modem file from the link given in the above thread and flash it via odin in the PDA tab.
Gud luck.

You can check the ESN by dialing *#06# and compare it with your original ESN which should be in your original box or with the documentation.

In order to prevent imei loss back up the efs partition. you can google how to do that.
I'd just flash the appropriate modem, or try the rom with the one you're using.

If you backup the efs partition, you should be able to restore imei and everything else.
I've never heard of any case where this didn't work.
