Hello,
So bought my note 2 from amazon, international version, sim free.
So i rooted it and fired a custom firmware on it.
Decided i prefer having the functionality of the s pen and wanted to reinstall the original f/w.
So managed to get an original samsung firmware (BTU) csc.
All is well on it apart from my sim card does not work in it (no service).
works fine in my old phone still.
It doesn't allow me to update it over the air and kies is a nightmare.
So im stuck with a tablet at the moment that I cant update.
I think I may not have the correct original firmware but I dont know how to determine which one will work!
Any input would be appreciated....
Thanks
Dan
You seem to have stumbled upon the problem introduced by Samsung in their newest kernels (they are used in newer ROMs).
The kernels cause IMEI number to not be recognised after flashing old firmware once the new one was installed. The only recourse is to root again and flash back one of the newer roms (Phoenix, Omega or Android Revolution will do nicely) or try to find original Samsung firmware for your region, but it has to be one of DM6, DF1 or DG1 at the end of the name and flash it using Odin.
Look here and remember to match your phone model number as well as firmware region.

I hope you've managed to keep a backup of the EFS partition. It's really important that you do.

No I don't have a backup of the EFS partition.
What does that mean?

Efs partition is where your phones unique identifiers like imei are stored. If it gets damaged or wiped and you have no backup then your phone is a brick, pure and simple.

Try and Flash an official dme6 or dmf firmware as per above poster. If imei is still blank then your phone is a brick.
I don't know why there are so many how to root blogs on the Internet and none of them tell you how to back up efs or why it's critical. It's a complete tragedy.
I've had to restore imei once to save my gs3. Was very lucky I'd flashed an omega rom earlier and the aroma installer asked me if I'd like to do a backup and told me it's important. I heeded the developers advice and backed up said files to drop box. Now I always do it immediately after rooting - all custom recoveries give an option to back up efs.
I hope it's not too late, it's sad for people to have to learn the hard way, best of luck.

Ive just read that if you flash the latest modem you should be alright. The post to guide you on this is by Dr Ketan in the original android development section.
I dont think your phone is bricked I think if you flash the very latest modem you should be alright. Just remember when flashing anything to your phone you should always make a nandroid back up first and copy it to your pc just in case for safe keeping plus a copy of efs folder. I hope for your sake you can sort this. And remember to read thoroughly all instructions before anything else. Look here and click the read this first it should help you..

Well I flashed the oldest note 2 rom I could find 4.1.1 and I have an imei number back!
Still won't connect to my phone network.
I does show networks now at least!
Emergency calls only.
So if I install the new modem on this old firmware would that work?

Could I just flash any of them? Even the Indian one?

I'd suggest you backup your efs before trying anything else.
Does your baseband version display now?
If you've already had your baseband updated to the new versions then you can't use it with Perseus kernel. The new modems are interdependent to the new kernels and Perseus hasn't been updated in awhile.
If baseband is newer one then you need an up to date kernel and flashing a newer firmware will obviously address this.

You have nothing to lose at the moment your phone is a semi brick. I think by reading Dr Ketans guide you will be able to get that phone working again. I take no responsibility from the following link but I think you need to give it a go. If you havent backwd up your efs folder than this link may help you. Id say download this latest modem and recovery and again I take no responsibility for your device.

Should I just try to sell this and buy a new phone. I have tried a million different ways and cannot get the phone to read the sim card. I can't get Odin to work, every time it just fails. And I can't find a stock att rom anywhere for the note 2. Is this a lost cause at this point? Is it even fixable? thanks

Hey everybody, my supervisor was installing a custom ROM (IIRC cyanogenmod) when something happend and he lost his IMEI and IMEI SV number making the phone unsuable.
I believe he didn't backup the EFS folder and lost the contents which included the IMEI.
Is there any way I can fix this phone and get it back up and running?
I've found another thread which refered to re-programming the IMEI with some expensive device.

What he flashed to/what he did etc...I have no idea. I have the phone with me and I'm trying to start fresh and get it to work. I have no idea what he did so I'm just trying to start at the begining and learn myself to see if I can correct the problem.
All I know is that when I check the IMEI on the phone info, it says 0 and IMEI SV says 0 also
so there is successfully a ROM installed right now correct ? go into about phone and check what it is running and what kernel what baseband the whole nine bro gimme something else to work with other than being blind trying to help bro lol . are you familiar with any rooting or odin flashing at all ?

It currently has a ROM installed, the phone functions but has no IMEI at all listed in the ABOUT PHONE section. I will get that info later today after work, thank you very much!
I myself have a Galaxy Nexus which I flashed from ICS to Jelly bean and used the ICS radio file rather then the JB one. I can follow instructions but I am new to android. I'm a Blackberry guy from the past and work with blackberries in a corporate enviroment
lol i know it has a ROM installed but when you go into about phone it tells you what your running ?? and no problem man
Honestly, the only way I could think of where he lost the IMEI of the device is if a nandroid backup was created lacking the EFS partition and was restored or the ROM didn't create an EFS while flashing. I've heard of some ROMs, mere flashing of updates or a clean install, mess with the radio/baseband and leave the phone without one, rendering it unusable when it comes to connecting to a cellular network until you flash a radio but not something like this where the IMEI is borked and lost.

Only way to go back is to have previously backed up your efs partition, while you were on your stock rom. Then once you downgrade to older version modem/rom simply restore your efs.

And don't flash 4.1.1 , it can brick device.

Please stop creating duplicate threads for the same issue. In any case, changing your IMEI is a banned topic on XDA as its illegal in most countries,
You should have taken a backup of your efs partition before you started messing around (this is in all the guides). If you didn't then that's your fault and your loss.

Hi, over the last few days I have had nothing but problems with my efs, it took me 3 days to fix it with help from a forum member yesterday.
Anyways at the moment I am on build number DME6 with modem DMF1, I want to sell my note 2 but I want to get it like it was out the box, because the company I am selling it to checks it out before they transfer me the money.
At the moment I cant get ota updates because my system is modified! And I cant go back to 4.1.1 cos of my efs problem?
So I was wondering what else I can do to go back to fully working stock? Would I have to flash a stock rom from another region and change csc? Is there any roms that I can flash that will not mess with my efs?
I really dont know what my options are at the moment? ?
If someone could give some advice that would be great.
Many thanks

You have to flash the newer firmware (newer than dme6) even if that means choosing firmware from another region. Then root again, run triangle away, reflash the firmware and finally factory reset. Using an older firmware will result in a broken imei.

Well if they will check your country oriented firmware then flash that chk in sammobile if not then dmg1 is the latest make sure to get a efs backup for safety.
Unroot and use triangle awaw to get system staus to normal and bianry couny 0 it will show in download mode. Flash stock and wipe data and cache after .
All will be fine by now if u hv any prob getting the status to 0 iniatally wiping will solved it after a fresh flash with odin

Guys here is my problem. I tried to upgrade my Samsung N7105 to 4.3 via OTA and it got stucked on bootloop.
I tried to access recovery mode but it fails, only download mode.
What i did is I downloaded the official 4.3 firmware at SamMobile and flashed it with Odin 3.09
Based on Odin it is successful but im still stuck on bootloop and recovery mode cannot still be accessed.
Tried to root it also and installed CWM to recover. I was able to to access CWM
so i restored factory setting, wipe cache and dalvik cache but still the phone bootloops.
Any suggestions on how to resolve my problem?

After flashing the philz, try flashing a custom ROM and see if u will unstuck from the bootloop, try cm 10.2, it's very light and mostly bug free

Now working cm10.2 but now my next problem is there is no signal. it appeared that imei value is null. how do i repair this? thanks!
By the way after successfully running on cm10.2 I tried to reflash again with stock firmware. bootloop again. i think i will be stuckon using custom roms for now. The only thing I need to address is the no mobile signal problem.
OK so the bootloop problem is done and don't worry there are a lot of amazing custom roms that are based on the stock one and even better features like the note 3 features, as for the imei, please tell me you did an nfs backup if you do, there are a lot of ways you can restore your nfs backup, if you don't have an nfs backup, I don't know what to do.

Not very clued up on losing baseband but it happened to me once when I used a different revovery version to restore a back up. Dr Ketan has written a guide on restoring baseband, he will be able to fix it

Please keep us updated and if it is fixed hopefully, please show us what you did.

Sorry was on vacation for a long time. I wasn't able to update this thread.
Problem right now is I forgot to back the EFS so when I flashed CM 10.2
There is no baseband and IMEI is null. Tried to flash n7105 modem but still it still doesn't work
Have read that I should flash stock firmware to fix baseband and IMEI but 4.3 firmwares makes my phone go on bootloop.
Should I wait for 4.4 update? I want my phone to make it usable again.
My phone right now is useless and works like an itouch hahaha
Any suggestions???
Need expert advise

You may try Hurricane modem changer and experiment with various modem versions. It's a longshot but it may help. Try finding very old modem version and flash that.
Hurricane Modem Changer is that an application?
Where to get it? Also, will it there be a possibility that when I flash Official 4.4 kitkat (when released) on my n7105.
Bandwidth and IMEI will be restored? I'm leaning towards to come back to touch wiz though many of you guys might say that a custom rom might be better.
For one thing, the problem in my n7105 started when i upgraded to 4.3 via OTA

Thanks will try. Aside from this. Where can I find old modem?
Will hurricane modem changer work if I used ditto note 3 rom?

Hurricane contains some older modems along with new ones and yes it will work if you used DN3.

No, it's for N7100 only - the modems are completely different (3G vs LTE).
Please read the original post carefully before flashing, if the HC was not protected you could have lost network functions completely.

Im using an n7105 model. Guess this will not work. Any other suggestions?
From what I understand, the quickest solution is to flash stock firmwares however, i'm quite disappointed that
almost all 4.3 firmwares from sam mobile doesn't work in my phone (always bootlooping)
A technician told me that I should wait for the 4.4 kitkat release, since it might work for my phone.
Now my problem is, I need to have the phone operational. so im willing to flash custom roms for the meantime
but the baseband problem is really testing my patience. hehe

It's pretty strange really as stock firmwares are a complete set of bootloader/modem/system that should in theory work perfectly well together without any incompatibility problems. Have you ever tried to install one of them without sdcard and/or simcard installed, maybe you have some leftovers from previous system (Android secure directory) that causes bootloops, also did you completely clean internal sdcard prior to flashing, it may create the same problems as external sdcard.

im not sure if i cleaned the internal sdcard prior to flashing.
It started with the OTA update that failed then I tried to flash stock firmware via odin
do i have to do a pre-requisite before flashing it again? so you are suggesting to remove the simcard and external sd card prior to flashing?
