Hi,
It goes to show that a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!!!
I flashed my phone with Team Viper 2.6 (I think) and all was working fine ubtil I tried another Rom, can't remember which one and the phone will not boot past the HTC white screen.
After many hours of being unsuccessful, I sent the phone back to HTC for repair and after a few days they said that the mainboard needed replacing for almost £200 !!! So i decided against that and got the phone back.
I can get into HBoot and Fasboot USB, also can get into TWRP, so tried to reload Team Viper, as that is the only backup I had. It went through the installation process OK, but still won't get past the flash screen.
Here are some details of the phone:

You probably just need to flash the boot.img from the rom zip...extract it to your fastboot folder and then execute " fastboot flash boot boot.img" and then "fastboot erase cache" using cmd (command prompt) and then reboot

Thanks for the reply, but where would I get the boot.img from?
Would that be from the Team Viper ROM, or do I download from elsewhere?
Look in the flashable zip. Simply extract the boot.img from the zip:thumbup:

U have a backup of viper rom right? And twrp recovery? So there is a boot.emmc.win file in twrp folder on your sd card.. Flash this boot file from fastboot( b4 or after restoring the backup)

You will find it in the rom zip file or you can download the viper kernel from the rom's thread..either of them will work for you.. good luck mate

Thanks to all you guys for your help, but did as you suggested and still no further forward.
Is there a ROM that will return my phone to stock complete with kernel, boot.img etc, that will re-install everything, wike a Windows re-installation. Or am I asking too much here?
I am losing faith in this and I can see it being dumped in the trash before long.
Flash this recovery
http://db.tt/SPXdFfPw
Rename it to recovery.img and flash it :
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then flash the boot.img from the viper x 3.7.5 (open the rom.zip with 7zip and copy the file)
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then go into recovery and wipe all :
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Mounts & storage - format cache,data,system
Advanced - wipe dalvik cache
Then install the viper x rom.zip and follow instructions.
When you get a question about a kernel....choose viper x delivered !
Done

Many thanks for your detailed and simple instructions.
Howerver, I am having trouble finding the Viper X 3.7.5 ROM, could you post a link for download?

Mr Hofs, many thanks for the links. I downloaded 3.7.4 and the update 3.7.5.
That was the good bit......I tried to push the ROM using adb in command mode, but I couldn't get it to recognise the phone.
I thought I maybe able to drop the files onto the sd card via Windows, but althought the phone is recognised in Device Manager, it doesn't show up in Windows Explore.
I am sorry that all your help and advice has been wasted, maybe it will help others whose phone isn't as sick as mine.
I may have another go tomorrow, but it's looking like it's headed for that great waste bin in the sky.:crying:
If you want to copy the rom to the phone you go into the recovery and then to
Mounts & storage - mount as mass storage (last option in that list)
Its now a usb diskdrive and windows will recognize it (if its not, wait long enough like a minute or so. It can take a while)
Then copy the stuff you need.
Mr Hofs, Many thanks for your help.
I downloaded 3.7.4 and update 3.7.5 and tried adb push and sideload but my device wasn't recognised, although W8 could see it in Device Manager.
I will give it one more go today and if that doesn't work, it's that great trash bin in the skt.
Again many thanks for your help.:crying:
Like i said you don't need to sideload or adb anything, just do as above and you can copy it normally

Mr Hofs, YOU ARE THE MAN !!!
I finally got it working and thereby saving me almost £200 for a HTC repair. Robbin' barst***s !!
I cannot thank you enough for your help and perseverence with a newbie.
I have printed your instructions for future reference. It's great to get help from someone who really knows what they're talking about.
Thank You, Thank You, Thank You. :good::good::good:

Mr Hofs,
Just one last question.... is there a way to get back to the Viper default settings, colours etc, without re-installing the ROM?
What do you mean exactly with colours and stuff, did you flash a theme ?

Yes I did ! I used your dark and yellow theme, but the trouble is now that I can't read texts and the normal (HTC) settings are all in yellow and very difficult to read.
Should I do a complete install of Viper again?
Lol did you picked the yellow theme on the skin picker ?

Hello;
I turned my One X on after about a month of not using (got a nexus 5). I'm giving it to my dad.
It just boot loops, I have 20.6 SD rom with his stock kernal. I've wiped cache, factory reset, dalvik. Wiped via fastboot and reinstalled the kernal.
I DONT have the rom files on the SD Card any more and i get an error when I try to mount storage from CWM.
Any ideas It would be greatly appreciated as it's about time my dad got rid of his standard phone.

post the result from command fastboot getvar all
The other thing is to instal Philz recovery and in recovery to mount the SD card. Copy your rom to SD card, flash boot.img, flash rom.

Ok Lock your bootloader if you unlocked him, in bootloader you must see LOCKED or RELOCKED this is importand.
Download this RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_H3G_UK_1.29.771.11 and install update to latest JB 4.2.2
or you can download Philz recovery and use the command fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

EDIT: if the first RUU not working you can try with this RUU_ENDEAVOR_U_ICS_40_S_H3G_UK_2.17.771.3
EDIT2: Strange you have too high hboot version for your main version

Ive been reading this section of the forum for 2 nights now. read various threads and none the wiser.
Ive unlocked my htc one x using the windroid htc one app which worked fine, but installing a rom was not as easy. now < i admit, i dived in and installed a ROM without seeing what else it needs to work ( am used to flashing nexus roms) and now its stuck at the HTC screen. Now i've tried various ways to rectify the proplem. uisng various roms, flashing boot.img before flashing the rom, no go. tried older roms, no go.
I know the hboot needs updating, but without a cid id then i cant find a matching firmware.zip.
Ive tried to do a RUU boot by locking the bootloader but get this:

thanks for your help that got the phone back to booting properly
I flashed it and it worked. I got myself back to the latest update. Now i tried various roms again as i'm one for experimenting but some of the newest ones dont seem to want to work.
ones i've tried>
Android_Revolution_HD-One_X_33.1
HTC_One_X_-_MaximusHD_21.0.0
OneX The Next Chapter! v1.2
but none of them worked for me.
So i went lower with
cm-10.1.3-endeavoru which worked
then updated to
cm-10.2.0-endeavoru and flashed the boot.img for it to work.
Now for the other roms, what am i missing? is it the firmware.zip? hboot level?
Am bowing down to Thant, and hoping he can tell a mere minion what he's doing wrong

cyanogenmod stable rom not recognising sim, and not being recognised by htc sync
Hi i just unlocked and rooted my phone. one of the first things i did after having rooted it was go into rom-manager and download the highest rated cyanogen mod stable rom...expecting it to reboot itself and do the update automatically once id downloaded the file i was suprised when nothing happened...so i put it into recovery mode myself and searched the phone's storage for the rom file...it was infact two files, one the rom, the other gapps...i installed both of them and rebooted the phone...at first i was left on cyanogenmod bootloop...after a few restarts, and factory resets, i eventually got past the cyanogen mod intro wheel, to its actual introduction *asking me to choose a language*, as soon i choose my language i get notification asking me to insert my simcard (it already is, OF COURSE...), as i go through the rest of the setup there is no network coverage or internet..so i cant simply download rom-manager and try another flash..it also wont come up as a recognised device on my macbook...ive downloaded another flash of cyanogenmod on my laptop along with a new gapps, but im utterly lost about what to do now...i cant even put them on the phone....
wud love any help

The recovery version I'm using is clockworkMod Recovery v5.8.2.7
And here is my bootloader

the reason i'm so frustrated is aside from the supposedly stable build of cyanogen mod i downloaded in rommanager not working, the rom doesnt recognise my sim, i dont have access to the internet, so i cant simply download a new rom to flash straight from rom manager...as well as this the wifi doesn't seem to work on this flash...and to make matters worse it's not being recognised by the drivers...i'm using htc sync manager..when i plug in the phone it will open htc sync manager but wont show that a phone is paired to my macbook
...when u say manually can i do this directly from my phone or do i need to connect it to a computer?
You must connect it to PC..And then go to fastboot and flash boot.img file..Then you will have signal, wifi etc..

its not being recognised as a device since i flashed the *cyanogen mod stable rom*...i plugged it to my computer though, and put it into fastboot and it says FASTBOOT USB...the options it gives me from here are
HBOOT
REBOOT
REBOOT BOOTLOADER
POWER DOWN
Here is guide how to use ADB on macbook:

And then you can use fastboot commands..

yep fastboot oem lock
Then it might be easier to flash the 3.14.401 firmware to upgrade the hboot to 1.39. Then you can flash any rom you want, and there is also a ruu for that. Sorry i have no time to explain now (heading home from work)
Look for the firmware placeholder thread, read the instructions and download the 3.14.401 firmware.zip from there.

i already had the ota 3.14.401 and got the firmware.zip from there.
its installed fine and i now can put most roms onto it.
:victory: thank you Mr Hofs
So i get this right in my head. The phones firmware.zip needed updated so it would update hboot and other things.
Now to flash roms is the procedure to flash the boot.img contained inside first then install the rom <----which is they way ive being doing it
can anyone help me out here. I was trying to root my HTC one X. I have unlocked the bootloader. I ran a script to root the device but now it is stuck on HTC quietly brilliant. I can vol down and power to get into the boot menu but cannot get into the normal OS
I assume you did not make a nandroid backup ?
sorry. All I have done so far is unlock the boot menu. I ran a script which has the following
fastboot-windows.exe flash boot boot.insecure.img
fastboot-windows.exe reboot
adb-windows.exe kill-server
adb-windows.exe wait-for-device
adb-windows.exe remount
adb-windows.exe push system /system
adb-windows.exe shell chmod 6755 /system/xbin/su
it reboots my phone and its stuck. I can get back into the vol down power button menu. I don't think it got rooted
So you have a custom recovery ?
Edit :
The easiest way is to go with a custom rom which is rooted already

No Mr Hof.
I bought this second hand. It was Android 4.2.2 with Sense 5. I have nothing on me. I am trying to understand what I have done. Have I lost the original OS. Is there anyway back? See below for more details. Really appreciate your help here. I am kicking myself for even dabbling.

Oke i suggest you check for a rom that you would like to run and download the rom. After that you do this :
Download this recovery and rename it to recovery.img
https://www.dropbox.com/s/yqzlpqo8illa53j/Philz recovery 5.15.9.img
Flash it :
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then flash the boot.img from the rom.zip (it's inside, take it out via 7zip. Open the archive and copy the boot.img)
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then enter the recovery and mount the sdcard in the mount and storage menu, copy the rom.zip.
Make a full wipe :
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced-wipe dalvik cache
Mounts&storage-format cache, data, system
Then install the rom.zip and reboot
all I can do it vol down and power on. I get a menu saying unlocked at the top and s-on. I can do into fastboot and then run some commands from the laptop like the one above

ok Mr Hof. The rom is the operating system isn't it. I just want to put the same one on that I had. So I will look for HTC one X 4.22 rom and then follow your instructions.
If you want the exact same rom you have to restore a new nandroid backup if it's available. That's a bit more technical than a new custom rom. Custom roms also come in stock versions i will edit some links in here in a few minutes.
Edit 1 :
This is a stock like rom which can be installed the way i described in the post above

Make sure you get the one x version and not the ONE version. Sometimes people read it wrong and trying to install the wrong rom to the device !
I checked the nandroid backup collection but the version that was originally on your phone is not available, so a custom rom is the only way for now to get it back up.

Hi XDA,
I'm stuck with my HTC One X (non-branded, probably the international version?). I have read a lot of guides, but can't seem te find the right solution for my problem. I hope you can give me some advice how to fix my One X.
First of all; I rooted my phone, put Clockworkmod Recovery on it, made a complete backup with it and installed MaximusHD on it (and probably flashed the kernel, as mentioned on the How-to).
This was in september last year. Everything worked fine.
Yesterday I wanted to install the newest Cyanogen (cm-11-20140325-NIGHTLY-endeavoru), so I did a Factory Reset and wiped cache and dalvik through recovery. When trying to install I got an error message: set_metadata_recursive: some files could not load.
After that I tried some other roms. The latest Miui and Cyanogen cm-10.1.0-RC3-endeavoru installed succesfully, but all the signals were not working (no wifi, bluetooth, data, mobile operator).
It wasn't even possible to install back the OptimusHD rom (got the set_metadata_recursive error upon instal).
After searching this error message I read about updating ClockWorkMod to the latest version. Through fastboot I could finally update CWM, but this didn't solve the error.
It was possible for me to restore my own backup through CWM, but I got the same problem with all network/signals not working.
I tried to return to stock with RUU, by following a guide. Can't find the link again, but I first needed to relock and than install the folowing exe on my pc;
RUU_Endeavor_U_JB_45_S_HTC_Europe_3.14.401.31_R_Radio_5.1204.162.29_release_302015_signed
My device showed a HTC logo, but at the end of the installation the exe gave me an message that it couldn't update or something.
I also tried guide, but now my device is Relocked, so it won't work.

Can someone please help me with the next step to fix my phone? I think I need to unlock him first, but don't want to do anything untill I know if I do it right.
At first... Unlock bootloader again,....then always if you flash a Rom you have to flash the boot.img through fastboot which is inside each Rom.zip....second yea like you saw then you need a newer recovery...the best is to use this recovery http://downloads.sourceforge.net/pr...5bfb18530caaa2&ts=1395833912&use_mirror=cznic
(Sry for the long link )
There you can flash kitkat roms and sense roms so you don't have to change each time the recovery...all is working fine there...then again do the factory reset and flash the Rom you want...then boot into bootloader and flash the boot.img of the Rom you want to use...like I said the boot.img is inside the zip you flashed
Gesendet von meinem HTC One X mit Tapatalk
1. Unlock bootloader again
2. Flash latest twrp recovery
3. Wipe data, system, dalvik and cache from recovery
4. Extract boot.img from the rom zip file you want to flash on your pc
5. Flash a new ROM
6. Flash boot.img from fastboot
7. Reboot
Thanks for the quick answers!
Flashing the boot.img of the rom did the trick!:victory:

I can't find ruu the match to my HTC ONE X. when i use OTA_ENDEAVOR_U_JB_50_S_HTC_Europe_4 and do "fastboot oem rebootRUU" & "fastboot flash zip <filename.zip>" i get error: 12 signature verify fail. I saw on another forum that is normal to get this error and you need to enter again this command, and it didn't work.
I don't have android os at all, just hboot, fastboot and recovery(cwm).
help please!! thank you very much!
First off, you're posting in the wrong forum, this is the HTC One XL forum. I'll ask for this thread to be moved to the right place for you.
But in the meantime I can offer some advice. The file you're trying to flash isn't an RUU, it's an OTA. An RUU is always an exe file and can only be run in Windows. An OTA is not what you want, an OTA is only a partial OS and requires a specific preceding system to be currently installed on your phone to build on top of. If you attempt to install an OTA with your current setup (no OS installed) it'll fail miserably.
You can find an RUU for your device here:
http://androidruu.com/?developer=Endeavor
I'd suggest you do some reading before you proceed any further though, it seems as though you don't really know what you're doing. There's a certain level of knowledge required when modifying your device and without it you're likely to brick your phone. Go to your device forum and do some reading, then do some more, and then do some more.

Hofsy around yes.....4.18 has no ruu available at all. Only way to go back to stock is a nandroid backup. Now i am going to assume for this one time that you actually made a stock backup ?
Easiest way to get back up is to install a clean new custom rom.
Download this rom :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1546970
And flash this recovery :
https://www.dropbox.com/s/yqzlpqo8illa53j/Philz recovery 5.15.9.img
Rename it to "recovery.img" and flash it :
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Fastboot erase cache
Then enter the recovery and mount the sdcard as a usb mass storage device and copy that rom to the sd.
Make a full wipe in the recovery :
Factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced - wipe dalvik cache
Mounts and storage - format cache, data and system
Install the rom zip and then reboot to the bootloader to flash the boot.img from the rom.zip :
Fastboot flash boot boot.img
Fastboot erase cache
Fastboot reboot
That should do the trick, btw this is the stock rom but made "custom" ......
Thanks for popping in to clear that up, I'm all good when it comes to the Evita, but I've almost no clue when it comes to the Endeavoru.
