i want to update my ics - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hi guys,i have this phone which is unlocked..on the back it says at&t but it works on my number here in Montenegro(Europe),so i want to update it..i cant update it with OTA,so my choice is up to Kies..but i am afraid if i update it with kies that my phone will lock for that at&t and i want be able to use it,is that true?Does anyone have experiance like that,i d really use a help. Thanks

If your phone is indeed unlocked and working in your country as of now, updating its firmware will not lock it back to AT&T.
In others words, flashing a ROM does not affect the lock status of a device regardless of the mean used to flash it.
Happy flashing!

This is completely true. A phone that is unlocked for use on other carriers will stay unlocked no matter what firmware is installed on it...and this includes the stock versions that are available via Kies.

Thank you for quick answering,i appreciate this

In short - no, there are libraries that need to be copied over with the apks. Also, you may get better responses in the actual t-mobile GS3 forum.

Help a noob

Hey guys
Im from Norway and this summer I followed a guide to get my phone yakju(?( to get updates direct from google instead of samsung. I have had jelly bean since then. Now I have seen that i can update to 4.2. First i reset my phone to factory because I had so much apps and stuff so it was slow, and now when I signed in to my google account and was gonna check for updates, I cant find the new update. Im still on 4.1.2. Do I have to flash it again or something? I tought that yakju was forever. What do I do to get 4.2? And I also heard something about 4.2.1 coming soon, should I just wait? I googled and found the factory images from google, but I forgot how to install them and if I should or not.
THanks guys. I hope I dont need to root or something, because I like everything stock.
nevermind, got the update directly from my phone now. But if i get some trouble, show me how to flash from stock 4.2 image
read the sticky at the top of the forum.
Use this software:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392310
with this you can download and flash factory roms.
I found it among the stickies, just like the other guy said, just to let you know it won't update on its own unless you donate:
so if you don't find the factory rom you're looking for (for example the upcoming 4.1.2) you will have to manually re-download the whole software as soon as it gets updated with the new version of android.

[Q] Root question

Hey guys,
I am brand new to rooting Android devices and have a few questions.
1) Do I have to install a new Kernal to be rooted?
2) Can I root my Sprint Galaxy Note 2 regardless of when Sprint pushes updates? How does carrier updates effect my rooted device once it is rooted?
3) How do I backup my stock GN2 incase I do something wrong so I can go back to factory?
4) I see videos at Galaxynoteroot.com that seem good for the Sprint variant, as well as on here. Which is best to use, most videos on how to root the sprint version of the GN2 are from October or November of 2012.
5) Use a toolkit or not?
6) Can I root, keep touchwiz, use Go Launcher, and find a way to enable Multiview for all apps since its rooted?
Thanks guys, appreciate the help. I really would like to get a handle on the basics as this is my first attempt to root, and this phone is pricey! So I will wait for your help, any and all advice appreciated.

Could an installed firmware contain a malware/spyware?

Hello guys, I just bought a used samsung galaxy s9 device.
Everything was good until I checked the IMEI, it showed a different device. I tried to do a software update, but it said "Your phone's operating system has been modified in an unauthorized wa. Try updating using smart switch on your computer.
My guess is that they installed a custom firmware and changed the IMEI so that sim card can work in the country I am at.
My concern now is can this installed firmware contain a virus or a spyware of some sort? I need to put my main gmail into this phone and install google authenticator. I am afraid people could have access to my privacy and information.
Please let me know if thats possible and if I can check if its safe or not.
Thanks
