Basically I'm helping therinsem with his sense5 project.. and I flashed an experimental ion kernel and it just gave me a blank white screen after the htc logo, so I pulled battery and restored a backup of jellybeer, and booted it to find my touchscreen not working, so I pulled battery and rebooted and it just sat on boot anim for ages and ages, so another battery pull and boot into recovery, but the touch didn't work there either (4ext) and I flashed an ruu to reset it completely and hope it worked again, but no still not working
Any ideas what's wrong and what I could do to fix it?

Have you tried fastboot flashing a non-touch recovery, then flashing a stock-ish ROM (like ARHD) from there? Also, are you S-On or S-Off?
S-off
That was my first plan for the day! Then if that didn't help I thought id try get s-on to restore a standard hboot

I doubt it...you flashed software and it broke, so I doubt a hardware fix would work.

It's possible that your hardware failed independent of the software flash. So it is worth a shot.

Try this explanation, I'm not saying that its right but its possible; the kernel was not properly configured and supplied too much voltage to the digitiser, they are very sensitive things and too much voltage could easily cause is too break

So anyone have any info on whether this root method for the 3D will work on the 4G?

Considering the Evo and the Evo3d are two completely different phones, I highly doubt that would work for ours
From what I have read it is a gingerbread kernel exploit... which may work.

Ever notice how the rage exploit was used on multiple phones.... unrevoked
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
Seriously, I know that I'm anxious, but correct me if I'm wrong... Any general exploit, OS or application such as Adobe, can be used to gain root on any system running it. Since we already have eng hboot and recovery for the evo this may be what we have been waiting for.
I don't know a ton about kernels, but I don't think every phone has a different one...
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
If I was forced to guess - I'd say yes.
They're both coming with the same bootloader, and they're both coming from the GB update. The only real difference between a 3D and a 4G is the kickup in hardware specs. Otherwise, they're the same thing for all intents and purposes.
I kind of always suspected that those GB OTA updated 4Gs would be "saved" once someone came out with a 3D exploit/root.
Getting root is only half the battle. The locked bootloader needs to be fixed, as well. Can't do much with root if you can't mess with recovery at all. At best, it gets you Wireless Tether and root-needed apps back - but nothing in terms of flashing any roms or the like.
Thanks. When did HTC start locking the bootloader?
This may help clear up the confusion regarding root and s-off...

Dammit!!!! Well, at the very least we know there are still weaknesses in HTC's armor.
I just got my replacement a week ago, brand new evo, after my phone fell out of my pocket on the freeway while on my bike, and it came with GB on it, I tried swapping the logic boards on the phones but no go, it was fractured.
Any word on "progress" <---(PROGRESS NOT ETA; hents, 'going good', 'not even trying', 'hit a brick wall', or 'too busy playing with myself') with the new B.S. hboot 2.16.S*thware? Searched and came up with nothing, and been searching religiously everyday and no sign of anyone saying anything. Is every Dev working the 3d over like a $2 hooker and forgetting phones break and have to be replaced?
I am waiting also, my speaker is blown on my 003 hardware EVO, and I'm not going to subject myself to flash withdraws until the new one gets rooted
fre3vo
I just ran fre3vo on my EVO 4G and it said...
locating access point...
This device is unsupported by this exploit.
BUMMER!

Just tell insurance you flashed something to it and now it doesn't work. It's not like warranty replacement, with insurance you can get it fixed no matter what you decided to do, so its not illegal. If you want to call insurance feel free to tell the truth

Learned my lesson with the erris.
I think your best shot is to see if there's anyone near you who's willing to let you borrow their XTC clip. You could buy one but they are rather expensive. Good luck.
What is an xtc clip? I have herd of this but I dunno what it is or how to use it. Pardon my HTC noobness! I had a fascinate.

Are you sure this is even because of 2.3? I flashed it. So I'm kinda concerned now.

A XTC clip is a piece of hardware that can change bootloader security to s-off allowing you to flash custom roms or in your case return your phone to its stock state.

Like the posting above says, re-do the RUU exe that you used the first time.
After that, take out battery, and restart with volume down and power, then
do a factory reset. After you activate the phone with VZN, it ought to be OK.
Well I didn't have much time to mess with it today, but this evening i formatted the phone twice, and you want to know what fixed it, turning back on auto rotation and then back of again...then magically the screen was letting me type normal again...
But now I'm annoyed seeing cm7 out for this phone, with no way to root the leaked gb rom..
We need s off and root for this phone and the gb leak asap.....

TRUST ME,
your problem is not the leaked RUU.
It's as stable as can be.
it's a hardware issue and you should just file an warranty claim with vz, don't tell them about anything upgraded unless they ask.
The more i use this leaked RUU, the more i believe it's as close to an official to be released build as possible.
So yeah just wondering. Like say there was stuff on my phone that I had to get rid of, and make sure there was no way to have anyone access it. Not saying there is, was, or will be anything like that on my phone but just wondering. I'd like to render it completely unusuable so that not even the most skilled techie could get I to it. Mainly want to do this when i get a new phone and have my desire as a project to see if I could reanimate it. Any ideas at all? Besides physical damage like smashing it.

Yeah a bit. Watched a few of his "unboxing" videos. Already handy phone completely apart a few times but not really for that reason. Next time I do I'll see if I can do something. I go to a technical school too for electronics and nanofabrication so I could also make any additional modifications to the board if needed.

Sounds like it is shutting down because of a voltage shortage. Have you fiddled with undervolting? Perhaps a faulty battery? Does it happen if you receive a call while charging?

I recommend giving up dual booting and just making nandroids that you can go back to if you don't like your new rom. And I'm not being mean. I speak of my own experience of wasting a lot of time trying to get dual booting to work. I could never get it to run very well.
