[Q] No network service - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hi,
I tried to cut down my old sim card to micro sim to try and fit the note 2; however, when i try and use it, the network says unknown and out of service. It is however getting my phone number and voicemail number. Before I cut it down, the sim card was working on my old phone. If it matters, I see that my imei is still there and it says it is clean on checkesn. I won't have another sim card or device to test on anytime soon. Does the situation make sense? Thank you.

Is touted phone carrier unlocked? Of its not, you'll want to do that soon

The simple slightest cut of gold can ruin service.

The phone's IMEI might be marked as lost or stolen. Check here:

[Q] No network on Galaxy Nexus

I just bought Galaxy Nexus from Play Store couple days ago. I inserted my Straight Talk Micro Sim and the phone saw it. It was working perfectly. After charging my phone at night, in the morning there was no signal on my phone. I tried reinserting the sim card, airplane mode, other sim cards. Even when no sim card is installed, the phone doesn't say "No sim card installed", it just stays as there is no signal. When I search for networks, I get a "Error while searching for networks" message.
What should I do? Thanks.

Micro SIM or Mini SIM? Micro SIMs are the newer, even smaller SIMs used by the newer iOS devices, the HTC One series and the Galaxy S III. This SIM is too small to be used in a Galaxy Nexus properly. A Mini SIM is the traditional SIM that we've been using for the past several years. Just wanted to clarify just in case.
As for what you should do if you are using a Mini SIM, there may be a problem with your phone, SIM or data service. I would suggest calling customer service first. Also, you could test the SIM in another phone or try to get your SIM replaced. These steps will help rule your phone out.
EDIT: And, as mtmjr90 states, double check the APN settings. These settings should have been uploaded to your phone by your SIM.
I've never used StraightTalk, but it sounds like you just need to make some edits to your APN (Access Point Name). Have you tried ST's customer service number or FAQ's?
If you can't find your answer there if in XDA, I'd recommend you try HowardForums...it's basically a community of network nerds. There should be an entire StraightTalk forum.
Edit: As JaiaV pointed out...make sure your SIM is the correct size. I use a microSIM in my GNex, but I also use an adapter to make sure it's installed properly.

I put my micro sim card in an adapter to use it with Galaxy Nexus. At first I had no problems.
For the APN, at first there was an default APN listed, I also added the Straight Talk APN for data and it was working perfectly. But now, I dont have any APN listed and I cant add any new ones.

Since you've already tried other SIM cards, re-seating the SIM, etc, it's starting to sound like something happened to the phone itself, possibly something with the SIM reader.
Seriously though, try HowardForums before trying to go through getting a warranty replacement.

How many sims can be active at a time?

I am planning on using an upgrade on another line to get this phone. But the problem is that I cannot just swap sim cards because of the micro sim. I would like to activate this micro sim card on my line. I am wondering if t-mobile customer service will have to deactivate my existing sim card in order to activate the micro one.
I would also like to know if there is any other charge from upgrading to this phone at walmart, anything added to the 200 dollars.
EDIT: Damn, i always do this, mods, move this thread to Q and A if you can, thanks.

Once you activate the micro sim card the regular sim card becomes deactivated .

Thanks, i also have one other question.
If i activate the sim card on my line, which i get using the upgrade from another line. Are they going to let me activate the micro sim, or will they tell me i am not eligible because my line does not have upgrade status yet.
Also, is it possible to swap phone numbers from two different lines?

Hmm that is a good question... what happened with me was, i bought the phone on the street... went into t mobile and asked for a micro sim card. They offered to activate it there, but I said no I'll do it later via 611.
But since you are getting an upgrade from that specific line/phone number I think they will:
What ever line you are upgrading, will be the line that all of the information will be transferred to the micro sim card, making it active.
Swapping phone numbers, I am not sure. Never done that.
When you do the purchase in store tell them not to activate it.. They should be able to work with you

Well, I've done this before and I dont know if different store operate differently but they have never given me a problem.
1. If there is no rebates involve, they simply activate the phone for line that has the upgrade and renew the contract for that line and activate the phone on ur sim.
2. If there is a rebate with the phone (as there is with the S3) they would need to activate it on the phone number for the upgrade and iirc you now have to make at least one phone call on that line. Then u can ask them to switch that phone to ur sim.
Tmobile agents are generally very knowledgeable, so just tell them what you want to do and they should know how to do it. If a store tells you otherwise, then go to another one.
You can also get a micro SIM to SIM adapter

Do what I did...activate the sim card through 'my account' online, take your old sim card and punch a hole thru it using a sim cutter, then you can swap back and forth easy peasy
The phone has to be used on the line that has the upgrade.. at least a little..
Also.. are you asking about switching the phone numbers on the account because of the required data plan? Because your answer is no. You cannot use the upgrade on the other line, get the required data plan on that line, and then have them swap the phone numbers so your phone number is now on the one with the required data. ( it sounded like that was what you were asking )

[Q] Testing for Unlock Procedure

I got an UNACTIVATED SIM card from AT&T and inserted it into my GS3 (supposedly unlocked)
No prompts for anything came up after booting. Is the phone really unlocked?
Is that a valid test to see if the unlock took, or does the Sim have to be Activated?
Wondering......
Thanks for any light that can be shed on this!
If you haven't got anything asking about some code or something then I think you're good. But to make sure activate your card and check if you're getting signal and data. But I think your phone is unlocked.
Give me few minutes I will checked that on my locked phone also with att sim.
Update: Sorry, can't check that. I forgot that sgs3 has micro sim and my att card is regular sim. Maybe someone else will be able to help more.

How they blocked, when I check phones IMEI I can see it, so T-Mobile can actually blocked the phone so people shouldn't use it? is that mean I can use Att Sim card?

Yes t mobile can block the imei if the phone has been stolen or not paid for completely and the person stopped paying installments on it they can block the imei. But no this does not mean you can use it on att unless you unlock it or flash as people call it

So how I know whether tmobile blocked? the phone should anyway read the sim card right? or if they blocked the IMEI number phone can not detect the sim
Where did you buy the phone from? I suggest you get it replaced.

I had a similar problem with my old Galaxy S2 and it turned out to be a bad Sim card slot. You should go to a nearby cell phone store and have them check it. It usually costs around $30 dollars to fix. You can also check if its a bad sim card by inserting it on a different phone and see if it gives you the same error.
Honestly tmobile would of helped more if you bought it from them. While yeah it might be a simple sim lot issue or maybe your putting it the wrong way who knows lol. By guess would be you bought it from a person and they messed it up then try to sale it to you, but really if it was from a store just get it replaced.

Will swapping SIM swap tel # ?

So I have my old Nexus as a spare for the wife now as I bit the bullet and paid full retail for an S5. If I take the sim out of her phone and put it in my old one, would that make the phone active on her line? Obviously I would assume at the least I would need to do a clean flash with her sim in the phone? Would that work?
Are you serious? Phone number IS CONTAINED in the SIM card. Why on earth should it be phone-bound?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus
Yeah the phone number is bound to the Sim card not the phone. However sometimes you can have you old number on a new Sim card. This will render your old Sim useless and not every provider has this option..
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA Free mobile app
I figured as much but just wanted to be sure in case the wife's phone goes boobs up and I need to swap it out with my old one.
