Yo
I have a crusty old Nexus One that my buddy gave me a year or so ago, but I want to get a new phone now.
The S4 looks great, but isn't the price going up on the 13th, just a few days from now?
If that's the case, I might want to just go and buy it.
I am the kind of person who would buy the Google Play Edition of the S4, but since you can get it cheaper through T Mobile right now for less, and then I'm probably just going to put cyanogen on it anyway, there's no point in getting the S4GE.
I could wait a month or two if I thought a better deal was coming along some time soon, but I kind of doubt that will happen until Christmas time rolls around.
So, is it true that the price is going up, and does anyone know of any other promotions going on that would help me out?

Okay, the time has come where I must ask.
The Samsung Galaxy S Relay 4G came out in September of 2012. Since then it has quickly become the most requested phone of all time in the new forum request thread, gained an 80+ page thread in the G2 forum filled with information on how to unlock and hack the phone, and through the hard work of members trying to co-ordinate their efforts without an official way to communicate, gained an unlock method, a hacked recovery, and a functional CM9 ROM. Despite this, it still has no forum of its own. In fact, the threads that been instrumental in the work that's happened so far have recently been locked, making further developments much more difficult.
So I ask you, what on earth is the holdup?
I came to the Relay 4G from the Sidekick 4G. That was a phone that had great hardware, but due to a lack of support from Samsung, and a lack of development here, never got past the Froyo ROM it launched with. Now we've got a phone that looks like a worthwhile replacement for it, and people working on it, but they can't share their work here or connect with other people who could help. It feels like I'm being let down for the second time. First by Samsung, now by XDA. I'm afraid of this continues, development for it is going to trail off sharply as well once the phone loses it's newness. And I'd hate to be stuck with another phone with terrible software support. After all, I'm not the sort of person who can afford to casually buy a new smartphone every few months. And given how popular that thread was, I think we can safely say there are a lot more people who are eager to see this phone succeed.
I hope someone who knows what's going on can comment on this. I've worked on the board of a non-profit, so I know all too well what happens when a small number of people in control don't communicate with the larger membership. You've got a large group of people who are feeling let down, or outright angry right now. They're in the dark and upset and distrustful. And in the absence of reliable information, people are very good at spotting patterns, be they real or imagined, and turning them into very strongly held opinions. Speculation runs rampant. Then it doesn't take much to go from "Something happened" to "There's a conspiracy." And it can take years to get past the perception that something malicious went on. I urge you guys to communicate now and nip this one in the bud, before it blossoms into an ugly mess.
Any development which has been done for the Relay 4G can be posted in the Miscellaneous Android Development forum.
As you can notice just from looking down the first pages of that forum, those devices which don't have their own specific forum can have development projects posted there instead.

We get that there is a misc development forum. There are already development threads there for the Relay. Our issue is that we had a discussion thread in the G2 forum for so long, with well over 800 posts, as well as threads in various other QWERTY phone forums. Nobody seemed to object to its existance there, and then out of nowhere we get a simple "off topic to this phone" reply and thread closure. Said thread deserved the decency of being moved to an appropriate forum, and now we have no idea where to discuss our device.
We are essentially lost with no explanation. The moderator I messaged gave me nothing more than a "we could have moved it, but nobody would know where. Do you expect me to pm every user?" I was then told that it is standard procedure to just shut a thread down. But one that big, where for so long nobody seemed to mind?

Thank you so much, it really is appreciated!
Where is this thread? I can't find it
OK......... So I know I am about to break the rules but I hope the mods will let these threads linger for a while before moving, merging and locking them....
Soo I just wanted to let everyone know that there is only 6 days left to register to get a FREE $50 gift card if you plan on upgrading this year or even if you maybe sorta kinda think you might I say go ahead and register. I personally did not here about this last year until it was already over and was pretty pissed I missed out. There is no commitment so no worries if you never get around to actually upgrading later in the year.... I love my S3 but I am a tech geek and love to have the best newest phone out. I told myself the S3 would be my first 2 year phone BUT..... well you know. So anywho here's a link to the page (it's also in BestBuys main page at the moment) I'm all for saving $$$ and I am sure you are too so please take the time to get this offer if it appeals to you or someone you know... Good day to all and feel free to click thanks if you like saving $$$!

Which is why I started by saying.. "I know im about to break the rules"... How I see it. If someone was handing out $$$ and all you had to do was show up. Would want to be the one person who didn't know about it until all the $$$ was gone? I'm just trying to help people out... Sorry if it really bothers you that much, no offense intended.

I'm not offended, this has no place in the dev section. The one you posted in general isn't breaking rules(I don't think).
I know but I just wonder how many ppl like me who look at the general section about once a year... Idk maybe we need a deals and discounts subthread..

Please done get mad at me for asking these
I am looking to buy a galaxy note.
Thing is, I noticed the galaxy note 2 came out October of last year? Would it be smarter to wait for the Note 3? I sure will root my phone..so will I be able to get a galaxy note 3 Rom to work on the note 2? The processor seems like it will be a good one for at least a few years..so no need to worry about hardware getting out of date?
Recap of my questions
1.sould I wait to get a note 3?
2. Do you think the hardware will go out of date within the year?
3. Do you think I can get a galaxy note 3 rom to work on the note 2?
4. Is it worth waiting for the note 3? I'm stuck on the Lumia 920 till I get a phone so...
Thanks for your help!

I've had the GN2 since release date and wouldn't hesitate to buy it again today. It runs quick and will not be outdated within the year IMHO.
The newly announced G4 is sweet but has no SPEN (many don't even use it...I do) and a .5" smaller screen then the GN2
No one really knows about the GN3 so it's hard to answer those questions.
In my view, I would not wait for the GN3 since so little is known and assumptions it will be even bigger:cyclops:
I mean look at your Samsung choices.
Galaxy S3 - now older but still sweet,
Galaxy S4 - new, sweeter, larger screen,
Note 2 phablet - Sweetest of them all in my opinion.
Note 3 - unknown and assume many many many months away

In answer to question 1, I brought a note 2 Saturday... Don't regret it one bit! Life's too short to be waiting around for the next best thing, go buy one and enjoy it while you can! If a galaxy note 2 ticks all the boxes for what you want/need from a phone, then I say go for it.. I did!
Also,on a side note the specs packed into this phone will be good for a while yet, so I wouldn't worry about that either!

1. How bad do you want a Note? Hardware will always refresh on a 12-18 month cycle, if not sooner.
2. See #1. Hardware is outdated within months of it being released. It's the way of the industry.
3. Depends on the Dev (or if you are one yourself). I wouldn't count on it though. Third party roms are never a sure thing, especially cross-platform.
4. Depends on your need. I recently upgrade from the i-727 to the Note 2. No regrets whatsoever.
Hello everyone, so I have a question I need to ask since made a big mistake and left T-Mobile before they switched over to what they are now… I opened a Sprint contract with a GS4, traded it for an IPhone 5 then traded again for a Note 2…. Question, I hate the Note 2 because of it still on 4.1.2 for past months and even though there is Rom support… Data issues are Horrible (I don’t mean Sprint Service in general)… So, I’m going to go on Craigslist to get a used Sprint device until availability of Nexus 5, should I sell the Note 2 for a Galaxy S4 or HTC One to use on Sprint...
One more question would the Note 2 get Kit Kat Rom Support?
Sounds to me like you just need do some device/brand homework to figure out what features you're looking for and appeal to you.
BTW...Sprint will begin rolling out android updates starting 11/20, and next time try searching through Q&A it addresses all of these questions.

Second: There is a sticky thread in the General subforum for other devices and upgrading advice and discussion
I have the Droid DNA but merely a year and a half in to it I've lost OS upgrade support from Verizon and HTC. If I upgrade to the One M8
1. Is it a good phone?
2. Will the same thing happen to the One that happened to DNA in only a year?
3. Is there root available?
Thanks in advance
Dude sorry to bash you and say this...but these questions are the most stupid someone ever asked...read through these threads/forum here and you see there is root otherwise there wouldn't be any Roms and kernels and whatever and if you would really read more about HTC news etc you would see this phone is superior and the update support will be 24 month or so active...so please never ask again such questions lol
And post questions in the Q&A section....not the general. What do you think Q&A stands for ?
1: do you think its a good phone
2: ask HTC
3: obviously....if you would have taken the time to check the many threads that cover root questions......
Thread moved to Q&A and Closed
All the answers you'll need are found above and would've easily been found if you'd even only had a quick look through the M8 forum.
Besides, asking a bunch of people who already have this phone whether you should buy this phone is pretty much guaranteeing you one response.
I'll close this as the answers are already here and because pesky trolls love threads like this and I'd rather not use too much troll repellent
