This morning the Galaxy S4 received an update allowing apps to be installed on the SD card. Has anyone read anything referencing an update to the note 8.0 or note 2?

That is fine for those who have rooted the note 8.0 however some of us are running stock. I have rooted and unlocked all of my devices over the past 3 years however the note 8.0 is the first device I actually found tollerable running stock. In addition to that their is very limited development at the current moment.
Thanks for the suggestion even though it did not relate to my origional post.

I'm also hoping that supported apps to SD will be released for the note 8. I'm using a rebinding technique now and my device now and again randomly reboots. I also need to modify Civ's kernel installers to add my startup script (not terribly hard to do, mind) so that my backups are located correctly and quickly if I do a ROM install or a kernel update.
I saw the announcement about the S4 and am optimistic that the Note devices will get it as well.
Is there anyway we can start an online petition to Samsung (that they will actually receive) to give us Apps2SD?
I think if there is not some kind of protest as with SG4 they will ignore us.
The Note 8 is a great tablet but still not a popular one like the SG4.

Let me do some research. I will contact Samsung today. I am more than willing to start one if they do not have plans to release an update.

I still have not received a response from Samsung yet. I will try to get a different number and try to call them this time.
I sent an IT request through my account. Hooefully they respond to that one.

Samsung has provided many updates for this device so o don't know where all this talk lile tjey dont support the device is coming from. Most manufacturers release one update and then its over. HTC....

Who said that Samsung does not support their devices? The only question asked was if they would release am update to allow app to SD. I am fine with 4.1.2.

Has the more popular Note 2 received this update yet? If not then don't expect the Note 8 getting it until then.
How ever, if they determine that not having this feature is hurting sales. Then they will have it out very soon.
Also, I personally feel the only reason it's offered for the S4 is to combat the HTC 1. Which offers 32 & 64gb internal memory vs. S4 measly 16.
No it hasn't I have a note 2

Poor Response from Samsung
I contacted support about this a month ago. They sounded clueless as to what I was asking for. We need to get their attention on this. My tab was rooted so I could map folders and the last update unrooted it and now I can't root using Framaroot.

Not a real solution to the update issue but you can use cf-auto-root to root.

It looks like the 4.2.2 leaked ROM for the N5110 has the App2SD feature added for some Apps. :good:
I was just reading that. Hopefully Samsung will get back to me concerning the issue.

Side loaded 4.2.2 yesterday. Most of the apps can be moved to the SD card. One app I have issue with is Flixter. I moved it to SD card, but when saving my Ultraviolet movies, it still stored on internal card. Chatted with support yesterday prior to installing new ROM. The support rep kept asking me if there was a "Use SC Card" option under "Settings>Storage". Since I was still on 4.1.2, I assumed it was a 4.2.2 feature. Checking with 4.2.2, I do not see that option. Unless they have a later patch than the leaked one I'm using.
Also noticed a new file system layout. They new system has /storage with /emulated and /extSdCard as the 2 sub folders. Not sure where they are going with /emulated. It only has 1 folder /0, and that looks like the familiare internal storage layout. By default /storage/emulated/0 is the default home folder.
Does anyone know where they are going with this?

It's for the multi-user feature that was introduced in 4.2. /0 is the home directory of the main user, /1 is the home user for the second user, /2 for the third and so on. This way, each user of the device can have their own home directory. The emulated part is so that old apps that haven't been updated to b multi-user aware can still work (sort of; they may act weirdly if there's more than one user using the device).

Hey all,
I switched from Iphone 4 to galaxy s 3 and love it. I want to know if there's a way to delete apps that came with the phone ( all the ATT apps)?
also I have the Samsung SGH-I747, what's the difference from the I9300? I see that everywhere when I google samsung galaxy S 3 4.1.1 update? will that work with my phone?
I tried to root my device but it was giving me errors so I unrooted.
I'll definitely try that again soon.
What are good sites for info and "hacks" for this awesome phone?!
Any good App recommendations?
So far I'm impressed with the phone and love it!!!

Nice move! To remove apps, root the phone and you'll have that power. BUT.... this is the Sprint SPH-L710 forum, not the AT&T. Do not flash anything from here, go to the AT&T thread and read up on what is working over there.
Sorry, Should I move this thread? or will the Mod do it?

And to further answer your question no don't flash anything for the i9300 - that's the international version and doing so will brick your phone.

I love reading topics like this. Welcome to Android world. Where YOU own your phone! Good luck and remember.. READ! READ! READ!!! Its easy to brick your phone in the beggining. Even I did myself too.. twice! Poor Epic 4g lol

I too made the switch a couple of months ago. I've since rooted and installed CM10 nightlies and I'm loving it! This phone is such a refreshing change from the iPhone and I'm learning something new all the time.
If I can give some advice. You have a lot more power over the S3 than you did with the iPhone, even with Jailbreaking. Because of this you can really screw the device up if you don't do something correctly, just be sure to read and read and keep reading. Ask questions and then when your sure, read a bit more then take the plunge. Once you get a grasp of things the mystery goes away and it's no big deal but until you've rooted and installed a recovery, then ROM'ed your phone it will seem crazy.
Enjoy it.
Root your phone. Follow Mr Robinson's post under stickies. Then download titanium backup. You should have everything you need there.

Welcome to the flash crazy work of Android :silly:
The i9300 is the international version, and the i747 is the AT&T version. You want to make sure you DO NOT cross flash anything from the i9300 onto the i747 and vise versa, you will brick, and brick badly.
For Rooting I wrote this up a while back and should be useful:
Recovery mode:
Hold down Volume Up, Home and then the Power button
Download Mode:
Hold down Volume Down, Home and then power until “Warning!!” message is displayed
Press Volume Up to continue.
Navigating Clockwork Mod Recovery:
Use the Volume Up and Down arrow keys to change the highlighted option and the home key to select an option. The Back soft key works, but will not be lit and will take you back one screen.
1. Make sure all Samsung Drivers are installed.
2. Copy CMW_SuperUser_v3.07.zip to your internal SD
3. Reboot your phone into download mode
4. Go into the folder you extracted Odin3 into and run Odin3 v3.04.exe
5. Connect your phone to your computer via USB
6. Click on PDA and in the Open window that pops up navigate to clockworkmod.tar
- Verify that ONLY Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time are checked
7. Click Start.
8. Power off your device and boot into Recovery mode
-To boot into Recovery mode: Hold down Volume Up, Home and then the Power button until you are in Recovery (it should say CWM-based Recovery at the top of the screen)
9. Install CMW_SuperUser_v3.07.zip
10. Reboot
11. Install BusyBox from Google Play Market, grant it SuperUser permissions and it'll walk through the rest.
12. Update Binaries.
- Open the SuperUser app
- Get into settings (the wrench icon in the upper right of the screen)
- Select Su binary under the General section towards the bottom of the list
- Select Update
To remove the bloatware from AT&T, you will need to root, and there are 3 ways that I use to remove that stuff. 1 is to buy Titanium Backup, and "freeze" the apps you don't want to use. They are still installed, but are not visible.
2nd way is to use Titanium Backup, and Backup and/or uninstall the apps. The 3rd way is to get a root explorer application(there are a few good free ones) and go to system/apps, and manually delete them yourself. The easiest way would be to freeze them in TiBu, and the safest. If you mess something up, you can always go back and Un-freeze the app
This SHOULD get you going
Hey! Welcome to the wonderful world of android. You are in for a lot of treats as I'm sure you've seen already. To answer your question about removing the. "bloatware" as we call it, there is one other way other than rooting you can get it off your app drawer and make it easier to ignore. Find the app you want to get rid of. Then press and hold on it until the home screens come up. Drag the icon down to the "app info" icon and drop it there. This will load up the info screen. From here, select the "disable" button and it will be removed from your app drawer. This is an easier way than rooting and it won't void your warranty either! Hope that helps.
Also, check out the amazon app store. It is pretty awesome. Free app every day. You can also customise your phone using zedge.

NVM I figured it out
I made the same switch
I am going on about 2 weeks now with the GS3. It is a big learning curve so far. As the stock GS3 with touchwiz I am not a fan. I do not like what samsung did to android at all. In particular all of the motion stuff is really stupid and the samsung messaging app is just terrible. I also don't like their default keyboard.
However I rooted it and installed CM10 and I really like that. I am a little torn as I dont know if I should judge this phone based on how it is in stock mode or for everything I can do with it (rooting, roms, etc....). Coming from the iphone I do miss the stability and ease of use. But I do like the bigger screen the LTE and being able to customize more, like what apps open with what actions and what not. All of the sharing options are nice too.
I would say if I was stuck with touchwiz I would probably return the phone and go with another iphone, but being able to use CM10 makes all the difference. I like both OS's and think each has their positives and drawbacks.
I am not trying to start a flame war just giving my opinion after a couple weeks of making the switch.

Agree, but I wish it wasn't required to enjoy the phone. sometimes you want something to just work. plus most of the ROM's have at least some issues that wouldnt be found in a release by a major company. Though touch wiz was just as buggy.

I made the jump from iPhone less than a month ago and have already tried atleast 7 diffrent roms...
Stock rom worked just fine for me all the time and I do find the motions useful...just disable them if you dont like them... I think like you that both have their pros and cons...but im finding much more pros for the Android than iOS...
Maybe there was something wrong with your phone from the get go...just saying consider taking it back to the store for a new one...cause I never had any bugs in touchwiz when I was running the stock rom...
Not trying to be rude, just giving my opinion...

I came from an iPhone 4 to a Galaxy SII (I777) last year, and now I just got the S3. I understand where your coming from where you like the ease of use of iOS and the stability, but to be honest I wasn't having any trouble or stability issues on the either of my phones with the stock ROM on Touchwiz. With that being said I still flashed a lot of other ROMs because I love tinkering and trying new stuff, I decided to stick with AOKP which is a CM10 AOSP based ROM and I couldn't be happier. I do miss some of the neat features with touchwiz though, like Smartstay and Direct-call.
First, quick intro - finally making the move to android from iOS after years of procrastinating. My galaxy note 2 arrives Wednesday eve and I couldnt be more excited. I purchased the n7100, unlocked international version.
(1) To update to 4.1.2 when it arrives - is this automatic or is there something I need to do to get it right away?
(2) I saw two ways to make any app multi-window functional. The first is by modifying it in windows, the second is through an app on the phone itself. It is my understanding that for the latter, i need to be rooted. Is that the case for the windows application too?
(3) I dont want to install a custom rom just yet because i want to tinker with s-note and the s-pen apps. However, regarding rooting - is there any reason not to root?
Thanks

Hi! Let's see if I can help:
It's automatic. Your phone should check for updates automatically every few days or week or something like that. If you plug it into your computer and open KIES it'll check for the update right away every time you plug it in. If not, and you want the OTA update, you can go to the settings and about your phone and then updates and you can check manually, but that's if you want to check manually! Otherwise, you'll get a notification eventually
To do that, you're going to need to root your device either way. Both methods require root from what I understood. You're changing a core apk in your phone.
Rooting is up to you. A lot of people root, and a lot of others don't. I believe MOST people ORIGINALLY Rooted to get more control and better functionality over their device. I'm not sure this is the case with the Note 2. A lot of people say that the Stock ROM is fantastic and you don't get a lot more by changing roms, but as for rooting you get more access over apps. I came from iOS years ago (from the iPhone 4) and I have rooted only once, because I think Samsung and Android gives you MILES more opportunities over iOS. For me, Android is "prerooted" in nature in comparison to iOS. I'd say, FIRST check out the device and see if you can do everything you want without rooting. I do everything I want without being rooted. I'm also not the epitome of a typical Android user. I have Folder Sync to sync all my folders across Dropbox and SugarSync. I have apps running in the background, and I edit pictures like a pro! I multi-task a million times better than iOS!!!! So it really depends on you. Try out Android, maybe without rooting it's enough! Maybe it isn't Then you root
Hope I've helped!

No problem. As from seeing the apps I have installed almost no apps support the multi window feature that aren't huge. Facebook twitter chrome plus a lot of the Samsung apps like gallery and video, messaging and snote Google Talk and youtube as well. For more apps: hack!

Other apps that work uith multi-window are popping up every week. Greader Pro now works as does lecturenotes and solid explorer.

Hi,
I don't know if the 4.1.2 update is being rolled out yet, but if it isn't, u can just flash it from odin, no root is required, and u can still keep your warranty.
As for the multi Window, you will need to be rooted, and preferably on a deodexed rom.
If u look in the dev section, u will see a multi Window zip file u can flash, that will give the any app multi Window.
The only reason not to root would be:
The readers hub, and the learners hub, don't work if you are rooted.
Your a noob
Rooting won't void your warranty, as u can just flash a stock rom and u will be unrooted.
I am currently working on a dual boot kernel for the note 2, so then u can have the stock rom, and a second rom, installed at the same time, and choose which to boot in to when u start the rom, but i am still finishing it ect at the moment.
Cheers
Corey

I am a paranoid person ...
A new user has posted a few times about a website that offers a download they say can root many devices including the new Sprint Tab SM-T217S.
The website is out of China and it is a new site. The company behind it is Kingsoft Technology Ltd. Their website has a few translation issues but it is mostly readable.
The site claims their software has been used by millions of users on hundreds of thousands of devices.
Perhaps they do exactly what they say they do, I don't know.
What seems more likely is their software may install something insidious on the Windows machine and the android device you are rooting.
I may test the software on a fresh Windows machine but I am no expert.
Does anyone have experience with KingApp? If I am way off base here please post that here.

There was some posts in another thread about this when I was searching how to root my Sprint Tab 3. A couple people checked the code they could and could not find any issues and several had rooted their devices with no issues.
I rooted mine last night this way as well with no issues at all. I scanned my PC prior to installing the app and right after installing the app as well as after uninstalling the app and nothing came up at all in the scans at all. My Tab rooted with no issues and is running great. Installed Greenify and Titanium Backup and got both set-up and some of the bloat apps frozen and have had no issues and the Tab 3 is running great.
Thanks for the info. I am not really concerned about the rooting. I will copy the Data and System partitions from the Tab before and after so I can compare.
I primarily worry about the software installing a root-kit or something on the PC. I still have not had a chance to mess with it, maybe this weekend. I think I will try running it in a Virtual windows install.

Its asking to enable USB debugging in developer options which I don't see in the settings on the tab. I've rooted several phones so I'm not new, But developer options is not where I would expect it to be. I'm guessing job security cause them to move it. Maybe?

Thanks. My lazy non detailed reading a$$ almost missed it.
Has anyone tried this with Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 3, does it work?

As far as I can tell the KingoApp website root tool did not infect my computer and it flawlessly rooted the 2 Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (sprint SM-T217S) tablets I have.
I hate to admit that I sometimes get things from torrent sites but doing so has made me fairly adept at spotting rootkits and viri.
Of course using a virtual machine would be the preferred method to use something like this. I am paranoid of the source....

KingoApp rooted my Galaxy Tab 3 7,0 AT&T SM-T217A version as well
I am new to Galaxy Tab 3, but not rooting and flashing. I rooted also using that sight and all seems well.
Are there any roms for this version of the tab 3..?
Any way of getting it? I have a rooted note 4 if that helps. Anyone that can help lemme know
+1 I've also been hunting for this. I heavily use S-Note on my Note 10.1 and would like to sync (using FolderSync) to my Note 4 for compatibility with Action Memo (which is now baked into the S-Note v4+ app).
*Edit: @moabizzi - Since you have a rooted Note 4 you should be able to back up the S-Note app using something like Titanium Backup and grab the .apk. Something like this... http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/263876-saving-apk-using-titanium-backup-file.html

Did this work ?
I've been wondering about this as well since Action Memo was merged into SNote on the Note 4. Having Action Memo be an entirely separate app and on the tablet is kind of an annoyance now.
Ill try it tomorrow and report back
@moabizzi Any luck?
I was reading into a bit and realized that it would need a bit more work than just uninstalling the current apk and reinstalling the one from the note 4. it needs SPen functionality which would need those files also deleted from the 10.1 and transfered over from the note 4. anyone on good terms with a dev that could look into it for us?
I took the apk from my note 4 and installed it on my note pro 12.2. No go

Thats what i figured, it needs some system files probably with a modded base to recognize it as a note 4

If someone can reference the right files and instructions ill give it a try and see if it works.
Other than that looks like were stuck unless we can get a devs help.
So i went through my system files using titanium back up and these are the five files which jumled out to me to be the ones specific for the SPen and functionality
DigitalPenSDK 4.4.4-N910TUVU1ANJ7*
Direct pen input 4.4.4-N910TUVU1ANJ7
S Note 4.0
Screen write 1.0
SPenKeeper 1.0.79814.158294
I made a backup of these, except SNote 4, if you need em
Impossible we need to wait for 4.4.4 or Lollipop
Hi, i am wondering if you can give a try to port the Mont blanc app from the note 4 to note 2014. I tried to install it, but it is not working.
I think it will be very nice pen style for the s note...
Hi. I'm also looking for new app. However in fact the only thing I need is to stick notes from Action Memo on my desktop. New (Note 4) edition has pin icon, which allows to create those widgets. If you know any other option to gain this functionality - let me know.
so i got some info back from a Developer and pretty much it has to be baked into a ROM. its NOT as easy as flashing the apks and working, the Sys UI has to be modified/adapated to integrate the new Snote/aircommand. I believe this is also the case for the Monte Blanc features in Snote.
Just curious which rom is everyone running? maybe we can ask the dev to take a look at it and donate to him for getting it done.

I was looking for the newer spen drawer functionality more than the actual SNote. Thanks thou
Hi have you had any luck? I'm on the note 3 and haven 2 10.1's, a 2014 10.1, 2 samsung notebooks and a samsung win 7 tablet- I dont see an updated version available for windows, just the same as the note 3.
Not really. Kinda gave up looking. I contacted a dev and he said he would look into it..... But he said not to hold my breath. Ita tied into the 4.4.4 firmware and our devices would need a rom based on those. Is it possible, yes... But its gonna take work and know how. I for one dont have the know how.
I am on 4.4.4, if I have the app, I can give it a try

Did you download it first to install (not install directly from link) and have install unkown sources checked...newer version must be removed first...also I have debugging checked (maybe that makes a difference).
Yeah didnt uninstall newer version. Apk downloaded for when I see the missing features. Thanks.

Tried the links on my wife's s6 and for phones without spen the action memo is gone but all other functiins work...crazy...
Slightly off topic, I'm waiting for my pre-ordered note 7 to arrive here in the UK still got a week or so to wait How come Samsung removed action memo?

I think they are trying to slim software size for the new features on the 7...so they gut out apps they feel are unnecessary. I could be wrong though.

Samsung has responded to these criticisms. Action Memo will return in an update to Samsung Notes thatâ??ll roll out before late September.

As soon as the update comes, We can install the new version. Way to go, with the reviews and complaints to Samsung!
So the updated sketchbook comes with all the tools and brushes as the older versions except for the Note 3 version which came with some extras like the log and leaves brush tool as well as all the little people. The new update has the option to buy pro tools for 4.99 but so far I have everything working (I did not activate the free trial, I bypassed straight to the main screen). I am going to keep playing with it just to see if functionality becomes limited after trial period (just in case it activated trial anyways). Maybe the pro tools is a whole different set that aren't included in older versions. The app did force close a couple of times when I was trying to use a smudge tool over a spot that I had already smudged 4 times...
If anyone wants the 2.9.2 version that came with the Note 3 PM me and I'll send it to ya (in case you liked the leaves, logs, and peeps).

just wait a short time then go to playstore and look at your apps and you will see beta on the right... if it's available in your part of the world.. you can download
It shows, just says not compatible
They have the most recent beta on Aptoide. My phone shows not compatible for some bizarre reason but I had no trouble using the beta.
I haven't put it through all the paces yet. It converts all your Action Memos to normal notes at start up so if that bothers you for some reason don't run it. It seems to have some other enhancements with organization but still no Action Memo, tapping for note etc. I really wish we could get some feedback from Samsung about what the goal is here, why it is the arguably most popular feature is removed.
The beta notes about what is added by installing the extensions from within the app are completely inaccurate.
update: I actually think the note and folder tools are great. Some real mprovement with organization and fluidity of adding some things to notes. Just add back action memos!
