[Q] Help, unable to unlock phone. - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

Hey Guys,
First of all, I want to say I search all the threads but didn't find anything relating to my post.
Some background:
I got an S3 from Telus last year, rooted it and was using mostly CM on it. I recently got the S4 and decided to give the S3 to my GF.
I knew the phone was locked when I tried to use it overseas. Before attempting to do any unlocks, I flashed carrier stock ROM on it.
I tried the following:
1) Free method - did not work since the options the guide described were not on my screen (I do have 4.1.1)
(Did my mucking around here do something to the phone? Is there a way to reset these settings?)
2) FastGSM - did not work, got an error
3) quickphoneunlock.com - Gave these guys my IMEI and they gave me a code that doesn't work. I called them and the kid who answered the phone said that it didn't work because my phone has been previously rooted. He further guranteed me that the code I got from him would be the same code I would get from my carrier.
I'm at a loss what to do now. I already switched my GF to the new SIM so no she's phoneless.
I'd appreciate any help.

Can you be a bit more specific as to which options were not on your screen? I OTA'd my Telus GS3 to 4.1.2 before I realized you could unlock your phone. I Odin flashed back to stock 4.1.1 and tried the unlock and it was successful. Mind you my phone was never rooted before (but shouldn't matter if you're going back to a stock rom?).

After selecting the [3] OFF option, option [4] is not my screen.
I am also not sure if flashing recovery / ROMs affects this menu.
Do you mind sharing the specific ROM you used?

I would suggest you flash this in odin:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Then try the code. If it still doesn't work you could try to flash the stock .tar from the sammobile site that is unrooted

Thanks for the help.
I'm not sure why you want me to flash the rooted stock first, but I'm downloading the sammobile one and will flash it at home when I get back from work.

Try the sammobile one. Its just place stock firmware you can flash in odin and you should be just fine with the code then.

I hope it will work.
The thing is, my current ROM is a 4.1.1 Telus as well.
I will let you know tonight how it went.
In the meanwhile, I need to prove with a video to those cellphoneunlock clowns that their code didn't work.

Are you using the instructions from here? http://www.redmondpie.com/permanentl...w-to-tutorial/ and if you are when it says wait.. you really do have to wait otherwise it will not work....

Still doesn't work
I don't see option [4] after waiting 30 seconds.

Okay so you say you don't get to option 4 in Step 5. When you do step 4, the menu key they are talking about is the physical menu key on the phone. I have a Telus phone also and I have done this a few times. The only thing is you need to watch the code when your doing this...
MENU NOT EXIST
PRESS BACK KEY
Current Command is 118640
If you get current command is 118630 then you have likely relocked it
Check here, I have 2 posts, one with screen shots.... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2176719&page=3
Step 3: In the Options screen, choose [3] Perso SHA256 OFF. Wait for 30 seconds after making this selection.
Step 4: Go back one step by pressing the menu key, and then back once. You should now again be in [6] Network Lock
Step 5: Here, now choose [4]NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ. Wait for one minute after making the choice.
Step 6: After a minute has passed, reboot

Thanks for everyone's help.
Here is what worked at the end for me:
I downloaded the following 4.1.1 Telus ROM:
After I flashed, the phone was going through endless FC. I did a Factory Reset via the recovery and the FC went away.
After flashing the ROM, the free unlock method worked.
Hooray.

[Q] Unlock code does not work

Hi,
This is for a Canadian T889V (note 2) from Wind Mobile.
A few weeks ago I tried to use the online form to get an unlock code from Wind (they let you have the code after 6 months for $10), and the code didn't work, I called their customer support multiple times, and all I got was, try the same code again (tried it rooted/unrooted/completely stock, etc, etc...), and I'm down to the last unlock attempt.
They also suggested I call Samsung, which I did, but the Samsung rep just told me to call Wind again.
So, in the end, my situation is that I have 1 unlock attempt left, I have a pure stock phone (running 4.1.1, Baseband T889VVLALJ4 (I used Odin to flash image from SamMobile)) that has the flash counter tripped to 4, but at the Odin screen, it says:
Product name: SGH-T889V_NA_VTR (I thought Wind was supposed to be GLW)
Custom Binary Download: yes (4 counts)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official

I have tried what was suggested in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982 at least 10 times, I got the PERSO_NV_INIT is SUCCESSFUL message at the end at least 7 times, and in all attempts, when I put in the rogers SIM card from my iPad (only other micro SIM I have), it asks for an unlock code.
So now, I think my only option left is to try a third party unlocking service, and hope that it works... does anyone have any suggestions for such service?
Also, is it possible to reset the unlock counter at all/if this fails horribly, am I stuck with Wind for good?
Thanks,

Hi
I am also with wind and recently obtained the code same way you did. I am rooted running jedix 16 at the time with twrp as my custom recovery. So i am on 4.1.2 and the code worked right away. I dont think you should be on 4.1.1 to do it.

The first time I tried it I used the code on Jedi Master 10 (which is based on 4.1.2 if I'm not mistaken), I also tried the code on 4.1.2 stock (**MA3 base band), and 4.1.1 (**LJ4 baseband).
Right now I think my main priority should be figuring out if its possible to reset the unlock attempts counter (and/or finding other unlocking procedures to bypass the code/counter completely).
I think I just screwed myself even more, I took it to a shady place to see if its possible to get it unlocked, they did some weird voodoo crap which I think bricked by modem. (any attempts to get it into service mode shows a blank screen)
I tried reflashing everything and restoring an old EFS from long ago, but the baseband version in settings->about phone says Unknown, and it kept saying no SIM card even if I use my original SIM....
Did anyone encounter this before? how to fix this? do I need to get the hardware fixed? is Samsung likely to help?
Edit: I'm fairly sure they used and NsPro
You could probably just flash a new baseband and all will be well... Also the RIL needs to match the baseband as well for it to work and come up in about phone, so try downloading get RIL from the play store and see if it detects a non matching RIL (it needs to match the baseband) also it requires root

Hi, thanks for the response,
I downloaded getRIL and gave it superuser permission, and it said my device is unsupported.
Also, what do you mean flash a new baseband? I restored an nandroid backup all the way back from Janurary and that didn't store phone functionality.
Thanks,
Dang... That's a shame, It is probably because the nandroid doesn't backup the modem/baseband, by the fact that you made a nandroid I'm assuming you have a custom recovery?

I have TWRP, I've tried using Odin to flash the stock .tar.md5 file from sammobile, and that didn't work. So I've re-rooted after that and recovered an old backup.
Strangely, I have modem.emmc.win and modem.emmc.win.md5 in the backup directory, but no modem option in TWRP when trying to restore that backup...
well that makes everything a lot easier, dont worry about ODIN, its a pain in the a$$
grab a modem from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2061031 (see if you can find one that matches your ROM, otherwise just try any)
flash it in recovery, clear cache and dalvik and reboot and you should be sweet

I tried both modems (4.1.1 and 4.1.2) from Wind (GLW) to no avail, it still says Baseband unknown and it still wont recognize any SIM cards...
If I go to a store with an NsPro, will they be able to fix it?
What's an nspro? Also if you don't mind losing your data, flashing a whole stock rom package through Odin should get you going if all else fails

It's a thing that came up in research that repairs IMEI damage (I think but I'm not sure), in any case I already tried flashing an entire stock ROM (multiple times, 4.1.2 and 4.1.1) through Odin, and it didn't work.
Have you tried different packages, from memory some don't include the baseband and bootloader and stuff like that (It's been a while since my Samsung captivate)

At this point if I bring it back to Wind (and by extension, Samsung) I think it's fairly obvious I voided my warranty, but if I pay (not sure how much though), would they be able to fix it?
I'm not sure sorry, because I bought my captivate off XDA and the time I bricked it I had to mail it to adam outler and get it made unbrickable
try downloading an ODIN package from samfirmware and flashing it, because the .zip packages you linked wouldnt flash the modem and RIL. Also GLW is Wind on samfirmware, so just search T889V and choose the newest GLW package, youll need to make an account to download it

I already tried that (if you mean http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/), and I think it's the exact same one as the teshxx download (factory image, exact same size and file name inside the zip, I haven't done an md5sum due to being on Windows),
I reflashed rooted injected stock ROM, did triangle away, and unrooted, and I'll bring it to Wind and see if they will fix it for me tomorrow.
Thanks for your help!
I think I'm actually having the same problems as this guy:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195869
I also tried QPST, and got the same exception as him...
And by page 4 the 2nd post down, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2195869&page=4 he took it to Samsung, and they did some software voodoo to bring it back to life... Fortunately there's a Samsung repair center in my city, and hopefully I'll have the same luck as he did (they aren't open tomorrow though).
One last thing before you do that (lucky you've got a repair centre!) this post says the efs is backed up when you install Cyanogenmod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=30716302
So you might be able to recover it

When I restored the old backup (didn't work), I had the efs check box checked in TWRP, and I assume that efs should be in the stock ROM (that's how the OP of that thread did it)

Right, as long as JB 4.3 has not been flashed listen up.
You have to do some homework, I cannot tell you what to do exactly, its all here already.
You will need to do a full EFS backup ok, full using the only method that works, so you will need the tools and the usb driver,.
You will have to downgrade to 4.1.1 using Odin 3.07 or newer, that runs on windows and using a cable.
You then enter the code that is explained in the rom development thread that explains how to unlock for free, which works as I did it on my n7105.
Next once you confirm unlocked, immediately upgrade to 4.1.2 again using ODIN. If you wish to go to 4.3, use Lion Rom or DN3, or other rom that has Knox free bootloader.
Best of luck, please use the thanks button if helpful and merry Christmas.
Once you confirm unlock

thanks for the info,
I have done some homework and i dont want spoon feeding and maybe i didnt explain myself properly in the OP. I have done the EFS back up and a full NANDROID backup . i have odin but i am falling at the last fence of finding 4.1.1 rom. i find roms but they all seemed based on 4.1.2 or higher. i did try and put a differenet modem on to get the options i need but all the hotfil links are dead
So find a rom for your device from another country or network, no big deal, as long as its 4.1.1 and for your device, and you can set your language temporarily so you can read what you are doing, flash it, do a full factory reset in recovery wipe cache etc, then, when your running 4.1.1, get straight to unlocking, once done and confirmed, get updating to at least 4.1.2 as you don't want to stay on 4.1.1 in case of sudden death.
Best of luck, you can work it out, I flashed maybe 5 different networks roms before I realised I was flashing ones for the wrong network.

[GUIDE] SIM Unlock M919 4.4.2 -- Without Tripping KNOX

I been a long lurker in these forums. I purchased my phone a little over year ago. Unfortunately the USB port stopped working and I got it replaced under warranty. The new phone came already with 4.4.2 installed and no way to unlock SIM like in 4.2.2.
Here is how I SIM unlocked my M919 4.4.2 without tripping KNOX:
PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK
GOAL::
SIM Unlock
PREREQUISITES::
Samsung Galaxy S4 M919
ROM: M919UVUFNB4 (STOCK)
FILES NEEDED::
Odin 3.07
7zip
M919UVUFNB4_M919TMBFNB4_TMB.zip
M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB.zip
PROTOCOL::
Flash M919UVUAMDL (4.2.2) modem.bin
Unlock SIM per this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283068
Flash M919UVUFNB4 (4.4.2) modem.bin back
PROCEDURES::
Backup your phone, use your preferred method
Upgrade / Restore / Confirm that you have Stock ROM M919UVUFNB4 (4.4.2)
Reset to factory settings
Extract M919UVUFNB4_M919TMBFNB4_TMB.zip and M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB.zip to Desktop
Extract M919UVUFNB4_M919TMBFNB4_TMB.tar and M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB.tar with 7zip in their respective folders.
You should end up with a sub directory file called M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_M919UVUAMDL_HOME.tar inside that folder should be a bunch of files. Same thing for M919UVUFNB4_M919TMBFNB4_TMB
Put your M919 device into Download mode
Open Odin and Make sure you have these boxes checked: "AUTOREBOOT" F. and RESET TIME"
Select "PHONE" and browse to the M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_TMB folder in your desktop, open the "M919UVUAMDL_M919TMBAMDL_M919UVUAMDL_HOME.tar" folder, select modem.bin
Select "Start" and wait until it finishes flashing and restarts to the home screen
***Unlock SIM per this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283068
Put phone in "Download" mode again
Open Odin and Make sure you have these boxes checked: "AUTOREBOOT" F. and RESET TIME"
Select "PHONE" and browse to the M919UVUFNB4_M919UVUFNB4_TMB folder in your desktop, open the "M919UVUFNB4_M919UVUFNB4_M919UVUFNB4_HOME.tar" folder, select modem.bin
Select "Start" and wait until it finishes flashing and restarts to the home screen
Test a different SIM card
Restore your previous settings
Enjoy!!!
*** Remember to use code *#0011#, select menu, select "back", select menu, select "Key Input", type "1", and follow the rest of the guide.
MetroPCS issue
(Cross posting in the various unlock threads, to hopefully save others the pain that I spent figuring this idiotic thing out)
Issue: Buying an M919 from craigslist, a friend, whatever. Popping your MetroPCS SIM in. Getting "Not Registered on Network" error. Go through hours trying various unlock steps.
The issue isn't your phone, once you've unlocked it such that you don't get a PIN entry prompt when popping in the new card.
This is specific to MetroPCS, that I've never run into before. They pair bond SIM-IMEI. If you want to put your metropcs SIM in another device, you need to call them or drop by a center. The instant that he made the change in his system, this phone that I'd been laboring over suddenly worked. Cost me $10 to do this. One way that a low cost service nickle and dimes you.

Technically you only need the modem, not the whole firmware. To prevent people from downloading the wrong modem.bin and brick in their phones, I recommend people to download the whole firmware and extracting the modem them selfs.
You are welcome tI use a modem.bin from a I'm me one else, but I don't recommend it. It's safer to download the original stock firmware and extract the modem from there.
Okay thank you bro

I have the M919N metro version of this phone running a rooted t-mobile kitkat rom. After downgrading the modem the network lock setting would not save after nv_rebuild but i ran the regionlock away tool by chainfire and rebooted with my friends att sim from his note 3 and boom it just worked including 4g lte data. Upgraded back to the NB4 baseband and still works so i guess that's it.
Thanks Bro
Hey thanks for the information! But i was wondering, I'm doing everything like you said, I end up with baseband MDL but when i do the unlock code thing, after it reboots, it still asks for a sim unlock code. What am I doing wrong? Do i need to start with a T-Mobile Sim card or can I do it with any sim card in there?

same here..I did the service menu unlock, regionlock away and the phone is still asking for a unlock code. To make it everything worse, when I put a metro pcs sim, the phone asks for an unlock code! ahahaha
Edit: Now unlock!!!
Flash Metro S4 with a Tmobile rom, the unlock wont work with a stock metro for some reason
Flash MDL modem
Run regionlock away (don't use the dialer unlock method or you will have a "not registed to a network" problem
Profit
Flash NB4 modem

OK... The procedure shown in the guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2283068 did not work for me. Using hints from user "ikkon", I was able to unlock my phone.
So, I did the following (three @@@ at beginning of line to show my steps);
(Remember to observe the preamble information in the OP's message before his instructions)
@@@ Switched on WiFi and downloaded and installed and ran TowerRoot and RegionLockAway.
@@@ Powered off phone, inserted non T-mobile SIM. Powered on phone. Hurray! No prompt for unlock code.
@@@ Procede with remainder or OP's procedure.
Enjoy!!!

Success on 4.4.2 NB4 modem to MDL modem and back
I had Success with my S4 M919 on 4.4.2 NB4 modem As instructions state - odin back to MDL modem followed instructions listed, run regionlock away v1.3 [ROOT], phone restarted. Powered back off and started in Download mode and odin back to NB4 modem. No problems at all with AT&T or Straight Talk with AT&T SIM cards.
I use Odin3 v1.85 myself, I believe if you use a newer version (Odin3 v3.09) select "CP" instead of "Phone" to flash the modem. Correct me if I am wrong. Just for anyone who might question where is "Phone" on Odin3 v3.09
Yes I am Rooted used Towel Root.
i can use this in m919N 4.3 ?

Is it still possible to unlock S3 - SGH-I747M

Currently the phone is running Android 4.3. The phone is currently locked to Fido.
Baseband version: I747MVKUEMK5
Is it possible to unlock this phone? If not, is there unlock codes like for Blackberry on ebay that are 99cents?
Only if you have an unlock code. You can usually get one from the carrier or buy one online. Yes, you can find them on ebay.
Thanks for the help! Ill look on ebay seems like its about 13-15$ to unlock the phone.

That may seem expensive but not compared to the Bell version of the i747m.
Really? Wasn't that long ago I heard about people doing this for less than $5. Ill see if I cant find it later. Think it was in the T-Mobile General sections unlock thread if you want to search through it yourself.

Well this is a FIDO one. You got a better and cheaper source?

Well there was a free way until android 4.3 came which blocked that. The current one I tried tonight ($13) just emailed me back and said he couldn't find a code for my IMEI.. Wtf.
Can either of you help me with a better source?
Sorry, I don't have a cheaper source. I was able to unlock my phones using the free method. I was lucky enough to find three i747m phones from Bell that were all running 4.1.2.
No worries. I think I might have found another few sources that are around 13-15$.
When I was searching around for the GPS fix(GPS tends to break when you switch from TouchWiz to AOSP or vice versa a bunch of times, and for me as a crack flasher this would be a bummer) I found out about the same service menu you guys use to unlock the phones. I was unable to even reach the menu, but surprisingly enough it worked perfectly with one ROM I flashed. The last step(which is used to initialize the NV data or something similar) doesn't exist in the menu, but there is an option to rebuild the NV data, which might be a perfect substitute. So it might be theoretically possible to unlock the S3, even on 4.3! Can someone please try the steps below and report back? (you will be flashing another ROM, so be prepared to do a full wipe)
1-) Download StockMOD ROM located in the Android development section, not sure if you should use 4.4 or 4.3, please try both and report.
2-) Flash the zip file using the custom recovery of your choice. Make sure to do a full wipe.
3-) Open the dialer of your phone and enter the code *#197328640#, it will open the Service Mode Menu.
4-) In the Service Mode Menu, select [1] UMTS. If you select the wrong option by mistake, press the menu button of your device and select back.
5-) In the menu under UMTS, select the [1] DEBUG SCREEN.
6-) In the Debug Screen, select [8] PHONE CONTROL.
7-) In the Network Lock Screen, select [3] PERSO SHA256 OFF and wait for 30 seconds. Then press the Menu button and select back.
Now, if you're lucky, there might be an option called [4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ, I personally couldn't find it, and this method itself is untested(can't test it myself, my only phone is hardbricked from the KitKat update and I already unlocked it on 4.1.1). If you're lucky, press that option, wait for a couple of minutes, reboot the phone and you're done! If you're not, look for the NV Rebuild option somewhere in the menus, I can't give direct instructions because I don't own a phone at the moment. If you find it, wait a minute and reboot. If it's unlocked, please report back.

I read through some of the other threads and the 4.1.1 modem is required to get the unlock option but the 4.1.1 modem will not work on a 4.3 bootloader. Users have even loaded a completely stock 4.1.1 ROM onto a 4.3 bootloader without any luck.

The ROM I mentioned about is a 4.3 ROM(there's even a 4.4 version if I remember correctly) but for some odd reason the service menu opens perfectly on it, so if you haven't unlocked yet, can you please try the instructions I posted and report back?

I can't try it since all of my phones have already been unlocked. The stock mod ROM needs the i747 bootloader and my phones are three i747m.

I have an i747M and I installed it perfectly, i747 and i747M ROM's are perfectly interchangeable, just make sure you do NOT install any sorts of bootloaders/modems/anything, that will brick your phone. As long as you only flash the zip file, you shouldn't have any problems, at least I didn't.
Well I just ordered the unlock code $8.99. We will see if it works.

Should also mention that downgrading from the 4.3 bootloaders will brick their device.

The reason I mentioned the fact that I have an i747m is that I could not load the stock mod ROM because I do not have an i747 bootloader and I would never attempt to load an i747 bootloader onto an i747m.

That's what I read when I further googled some stuff.. lots of people reporting bricking phones if they downgrade.. and it's just not worth it to me considering the unlock code was $9...
I'll report back if this unlock code comes through, the last place I purchased it from $13 they emailed me back and said they couldn't find a code for it and refunded me the money. So crossing my fingers on this place.
StockMod should run just fine on the I747M. You may need to update your firmware for it to flash, but it would work just fine on that model.
So the second place got back to me.. also informing me that they can't get a unlock code for the phone. WTF is the deal with this?
Are Samsung's difficult to unlock or what?

It's not so much about Samsung's phone but being a Canadian variant. Canadian carriers are a pita when it comes to unlocking.

Samsung Galaxy Note 2 (AT&T) : SGH-I317 Stock Rom needed

Hello,
I'm trying to look for the fresh stock rom of SGH-I317 rom so I can flash my phone back to normal. I owned this phone since 2012, I had it rooted and everything else. Last night, it decided to do something funny and now it gets stuck on samsung logo/battery and I can only access download mode for the time being.
So I assume I have to factory set everything and lose data--which i don't care about anymore.
Can anyone please help? Thank you. Stock rom is what I need and Odin as well. Thanks again =)
Adam.
As far as I know there are at least 4 different STOCK versions of SGH-I317 firmware namely 4.1.1 4.1.2 4.3 and 4.4.2. 4.1.2 is the same as 4.1.1 but it has SIM unlock backdoor closed. 4.1.1 is interchangeable up to 4.3 with certain limitations, as soon as you get 4.4.2 you are stock to it.
4.3 is my personal favorite but I can't seem to find clean AT&T ROM for some time now (everything else is available).
If I were you I'd start powering up the phone while holding home and arrow up buttons, do "wipe data/factory reset" follow with "wipe cache partitions" and you should be golden

Thanks replying. Unfortunately.. I tried getting into recovery mode but it just won't let me. when I do that.. it only takes me back to the samsung logo. I really really don't know why...
Right now I only have access to the Odin Mode and it comes up as
Product Name :
Custom Binary Download : No
Current Binary Samsung Official
System Status : Custom

Now on Odin.. I get many failed attempts..so I'm not sure I have the right stock rom.
edit : I tried that method..didn't work ....

Remember u can downgrade from 4.4.x...there's a thread in forum that explains what tz files r needed and which bootloader 2...I've done it couple of times myself from Dn4 rom and Eclipse V9 from 7100 thread. Just gotta read and be patient. Hope u get all straightened out. Keep us informed on progress.
With the phone in download mode, is there anything on the phone about knox or warranty bit? If there is, the phone can't be flashed with any stock ROM from sammobile.com.

REALLY??? Please show us the link for upgrade! As I said there is no OEM 4.3 ROM at sammobile
I was told many many times that AT&T (and this is the one we are talking about) 4.4.2 ROM can not be downgraded!
I tired the downgrade and yes the system will go down to 4.1.1 but it would keep the 4.4.2 bootloader so the phone won't charge while being off (making it pretty useless).
@audit13 : I've the phone since 2012. I think Im getting a new as is but I know this phone can't be done just yet. if I'm able to access download mode that should warrant itself the possibility of it being fixed. Just need that thread to follow those directions =)

What is the model number on the label under the battery? Something is very wrong because there is no model number.

In this case, I would try and flash the stock ROM from sammobile.com in Odin: https://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I317/
Ok.. so if I download both of these (or which one do you prefer? ). What else do I need to download? I do have two versions of Odin.

So i tried it on Odin 1.85.
I get something like GET PIT FOR MAPPING?
