I completed the 11th step but for the 12th step my PC won't detect any drivers or notify for installing drivers
Please someone help.......I wanna later install Xperia Ultimate HD on my arc s
But this rooting sucks :crying::crying:

You are doing it wrong. Rooting =/= Unlocking bootloader.
If you wish to root, you have to follow a guide, given in the General part of this forum.

thank you guys i fixed the flashtool program coz it was corrupted & flashing went fine, but my phone isn't rooted yet, any suggestions on which rom should i use after rooting with flashtool.
Rooting will allow you administrators privilegies, so you can mod it.
For roms (custom rom) you need to unlock your bootloader which will break your warranty from sony.

Good morning fellow Xperia gamers,
Not long ago I bought my 2nd Xperia Play.
My first was rooted using "Gingerbreak" and I enjoyed it a lot.
Now I want to root my new Xperia Play aswell, however it seems this app no longer roots on 2.3.4? (Or am I wrong?)
Could any of you please give me step by step instructions on how to root this phone?
Main reason rooting for me would be so I can start using Gameboard again.
Thanks a lot!
Kind regards, Stefan.
PS: My bootloader is not unlocked, Iam willing to do so if this would make rooting easier.
However the idea is to gain root on the stock 2.3.4 firmware.
So please no flashing full CFW options.
If it is possible I would like to keep it locked.

Hi, i m new to android. my Sony ericsson xperia Arc is rebooting again and again. the lock screen appears on Starting up and then the screen vanishes.. and restarts. please guide me what to do. i have rogers phone which i unlocked from the market to use other Sims. thanks please help.
What did you do prior the issue started? Did you have any modifications? Custom ROM/kernel?
Safest solution - Reinstall phone firmware. Either with Flashtool or with Sony PC Companion. Flashtool guide can be found from my signature, the tutorial one.

As far as I know you have to root it in order to update it . sony has fail us by not releasing android 4.0 for us . The latest official firmware is 2.3.4

Here is an old reply that explain how to update it . sadly most of these urls aren't working you could google them . I believe it's good enough to give you an idea how the root thing works.

Closest thing to offical 4.03 for the xperia play is marks rom here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854682 this is based on sonys beta ice cream sandwich release for the play which was cancelled, follow the instructions in that post to install you need an unlocked bootloader to install that rom
Step 1, you need an unlocked bootloader http://unlockbootloader.sonymobile.com/
Step 2, download and install flashtool, http://androxyde.github.com/
Step 3, install drivers from c:/flashtool/drivers make sure to check xperia play drivers and flash/adb drivers
Step 4, put mark's rom zip on your microsd card http://www.mediafire.com/?5lb44k42k5xin6l
Step 5, turn off phone and hold search button while plugging into pc a blue led should come on this means it is in fastboot mode
Step 6, open flashtool and press flash then fastboot mode
Step 7, select kernal to flash, choose doomkernal v3 ics http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1573184
Step 8, after flash finishes, unplug phone from pc
Step 9 turn on phone and keep pressing back button until you enter clockworkmod
Step 10 select factory reset this will delete data from your phone
Step 11 select choose zip to install
Step 12 select marks rom zip you copied to the sd card in step 4
Step 13 install marks patches from this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1854682 and the doomkernal wifi libs in the same post.

unfortunately you can not update without a computer nor can you overclock the device as that requires a unlocked bootloader and to unlock it you need a PC. you also need a computer to flash a new kernel which will allow you to get a higher android version
