[Q] Kernel for CWM10.1 for overclocking - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I have looked through the forum, and even on CM's forum, but did not find the answer I was looking for, so I ask, if thats okay.
I am Using the newest stable CM 10.1, and I would like to replace the kernel that allows overclocking. I have seen Francos Kernel, but I do not know how well it likes the New CM10.1.
Any suggestions maybe?
Thanks

fancy kernel maybe?

Thanks Everyone.
I went ahead, and made a Nandroid backup, flashed the kernel using fastboot.
Works so far.
Only things I have seem to lost are the colour hacks, and the GPU speed setting. Hmm...

Glados can go to a 2.0 GHz! Most phones cant go that high but you can try if you want

Nvm. Got everything working. CPU/GPU speed control. Also Voltage/Colour control VIA Trickster mod.
Thanks for suggesting Fancy Kernel

[Q] Best ROM for gaming?

I wonder, because I've always been into gaming on alot of consoles, so I'd like to play games on my EVO, but smoothly

About the best thing you can do is get a lightweight ROM, Overclock your custom kernel
R2R going green and download no frills app to overclock, whatever it is if its sense I strongly reccomend amon ra recovery and ChopSuey kernel

+10 This is the correct answer!!
Honestly any good aosp ROM.....decks, cm7, whatever. U should also give the savagedzen kernel a go. My handset seems to like it better, especially for intense graphic stuff......tiamat is still the standard though.
Thanks guise, should give them a try :3
i came into this thread, curious, since i've turned my evo into a media/game device and was wondering if there was a better setup than i'm currently using.
but apparently deck's 1.3 with tiamat 3.3.7 sbc and chainfire3d is... pretty hard to beat
I was not saying sense was better for gameing, I was saying if u are going to use sense that will work great on ALL levels, as in customization, speed, and simplicity...

Who's thread? I'm curious on how to use CF3D
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=14091373
Chainfire3d basically replaces your opengl driver with his modified version. Download the app, open it up, and click install Chainfire3d drivers. In his thread he gives pretty detailed information on what each of the settings do.
Deck's AOSP Rom or Barnacles AOSP Rom are the best to try, they are as base as you can get (CM7 comes with ADW Launcher blah) And either kernels mentioned above but I use Tiamat.
Use setCPU to set up 'performance' governor and max speed of 1.19 anything in the 1.2 range and you risk freezing/crashing. It all depends on your phone tho so you're welcome to try out 1.2Ghz OC if your phone can handle that stable.
Chainfire isn't really required as I only use it in rare occasions. usually to play Tegra based games or to use it's OpenGL features to lower texture quality etc..
Only drawback to the AOSP roms I've found tho are that multi-touch can be a bit buggy, if you're pressing with one finger already then another to move the screen around in lets say an FPS game, it's very choppy whereas Sense roms are smooth (but it might just be phone specific) Another slight issue I've noticed in AOSP roms is they make poor use of the radio/wifi drivers, I get better signal/wifi reception on Sense based roms, but this was a topic for gaming so anyway.. I'm currently testing a recently released sense 1 official Evo OG rom for games and I'm actually impressed (using it with stock kernal no SetCPU) soon I will be trying out some kernels but if you hate AOSP you should give some of the custom OG Roms a try.

CNA 3.3.1 help

After flashing codename android 3.3.1 changing the color settings I.e gamma and multipliers all is good. I recently switched to glados then Franco then popcorn kernel. All of which say they allow color multiplier tuning. But in rom control its faded out.
Anybody know why or how to enable this through the kernel any help would be appreciated

I know with Trinity there are commands that can be issued through terminal, not sure of the one you mentioned, but the easiest way would be through the apps made to tune each specific kernel.
Yeah I figured but Trinity doesn't play nice with my phone and as much as I would love to support the devs I have no money to give yet. But what's the point of the rom control settings to adjust that when they can't. Maybe something in the kernel is stopping the settings from modifying the values?

ROM control probably only works with the default kernel.
Yeah probably wonder why seems to work in cyanogen or is it because they add something to there source to allow that do you know

Not all kernels support the CM type colour controls.
Try Faux or Lean kernel if you want to use the ROM colour controls. If not download and install the free Trickster Mod app and it should allow you to control colour on most kernels.

Dark Knight performance issues

Just bought the game earlier (well you can't really go wrong with 25c) and performance is just downright terrible. O knew about the framerate issues, but didn't know it was this bad. Is there nothing I can do about it?
I'm running omega v27 btw with the latest version of siyah and overclocked cpu/gpu or not, it runs bad. I see some people posting that it runs great on their s3 but I fail to see how that's possible unless jellybean has a performance penalty (doubt it though as everything else runs fine)

I tried reflashing the kernel used by omega and yeah, performance did improve. But it still stutters randomnly. I wonder if this is the game at its best for android devices, or if I can still squeeze out some more frames

My feeling is that this game doesn't perform well in Omega, not with Siyah and not with stock kernel. Having the best results with the official odexed DLIB.
Odd the game works fine on my phone from what I have played, I`m on stock rom and stock kernel.

I think omega 27 JB doesnt use updated mali drivers..iv read that somewhere i just cant remeber..i noticed it when i played dead trigger on stock ics i had the ultra graphics settings but when i updated to omega 27 i only get to have high graphics settings on dead trigger. it seems to be gpu drivers used in jb or omega.
I'm using checkRom v5.5 with hacked stock kernel, and it's v much playable. Fps could be better, but it's fine.
Not that I have on my S3 but on my desire I used chainfire's app (edit:chainfire3d) to get GTA3 working on it. Maybe try that?

recommended options for kernel tools

Anyone have some recommendations for a toolbox that edits settings for kernel like CPU settings, scheduler, color tuning, fsync settings, sdcaed read ahead and so forth...
Only one I've used had been trickster mod
Thanks
which kernel do you have?
The trinity kernel has an app called trinity kernel toolbox. All the options you listed can be tweaked there. Trickster mod has an app as well to change these values.

Looks like I'll go with Trickster mod, I had a feeling it was pretty good I just wanted to see if the community had a better idea. Thank you very much for the input so far guys!
I m not sure that the Xenon Kernel is completely tunable with Trickster...maybe only the frequencies...
For a complete kernel optimizzation you need something like FrancoKernel, LeanKernel or Trinity. AND then trickster will be very useful...
However you can find my kerenl setting on signature if you want
I use Pimp My ROM, which is free on the play store. I use it with ZenSeries kernel and all seem well.

Yes I know...I thing is a goo apk. I prefer make all the scripts by my own, but at the end is the same thing. These are RAM, SDCARD, DATA, etc ... optimization. Not for frequencies voltages and governor.

I noticed that after installing Trickster that I don't have all the options I did using another kernel that was much more tweaked... You're definitely right when you say the Xenon kernel isn't completely tunable, a lot less options!

I'll definitely look into both, but as Crostanin mentioned it seems to be more script and build.prop tweaking - but without a doubt I am interested in what that has to offer based off a quick glance! Thanks
Yeah sounds like trinity is a good one for you . I should have used larger images haha sorry.

pimp my rom does have cpu and voltage control. i personally use it for other than those, and trickster mod with pro key for kernel adjustments. i really like trickster, better than glados and from what i've seen from trinity, i like it better than that too.

Hey all, I decided to go to the darkside and move away from stock.

This has only been tested Android 4.3, I do not believe it will work on 4.2.

Super excited to see you make a kernel for aosp. Will be my go-to. I would like to request frandom support in the kernel. Smoocha kernel had frandom support and I believe it really did help performance. I first read about frandom from the Crossbreader thread in the general android section. Here's the paragraph:
"5. Frandom support (Optional) - CrossBreeder now supports linking both your random devices to the extremely fast alternative - Frandom ( http://billauer.co.il/frandom.html ). This module is orders of magnitude (10-50 times) faster than the standard character devices ( Check this out - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&postcount=134 ). The erandom character device also installed by Frandom doesn't use up system entropy at all on top of being fast. You will need to ask your ROM developer to develop the kernel module for you and then place it in /system/lib/modules. CrossBreeder will then try and load it and if successful, make all the necessary adjustments so that both /dev/random and /dev/urandom are pointing to /dev/frandom and /dev/erandom respectively. The speed benefits are to be seen to be believed. But since each ROM requires a unique kernel module, this option is left optional ( but auto detect ). Advanced users can even try and load the frandom module built for other kernels if they don't have one readily available for their own kernel version using the Punchmod utility. Read this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...5#post41920265"

Ty ... I do know the big problem is our cm is mostly mako with a few tweaks to work on our phone... If we can ever get one the built from source not one put together by bits and pieces that would solve a lot of problems... But please don't get me wrong I do appreciate all the work that is and has been done to even get ports working for us...

This kernel isn't based on Mako. It is based on the Qualcomm-made Snapdragon-optimized sources at CodeAurora (their repositories for sharing code with partners and us). That is the same source that manufacturers (such as LG) base their kernels on (even Google does as well, but theirs is not up-to-date and is missing some optimizations).

Sorry about that. LG has a strange initlogo implementation which I haven't quite figured out yet. It only shows for a second so it's not too bad though. If I disable or delete the initlogo, it seems to boot up slower, so that's why it's there.

No need to apologize. I understand that things are a work in progress and that bugs need to be worked out. I'm just happy to be running 4.3 lol.
However, I will say that once the weird LG screen went away, my phone would not boot. It would just go to a blank, black screen. The screen was on, and the capacitive buttons were lit up but the screen was just blank.
So if you got it to actually boot up then you got farther than I did!

its not a problem anymore at all. Shelnutt completely rebased cm10.2 on the rom from e975, so we don't have a mako based rom anymore, its lgog based, which is why camera isn't an issue as much anymore
