I didn't done registry trick. Check registry in mod forum and don't found that registry in my system.
I only remember I try something by running command prompt as system by Process Hacker. Then done a few thing include change narrator to command prompt and execute explorer on lockscreen. Then I login, kill all explorer and run new explorer as system. I can't remember everything I done but after I restart last time my Surface RT become like this.
I don't sure my onscreen keyboard were scale down or not then I attach it here too.
Didn't restart yet since I'm not sure it will permanent or not. Decide to keep it for investigate.

It's a known bug that this happens, it generally goes away at reboot, or just randomly when you close then open the start menu.
It's also not development and hacking,
if you are upgraded to 8.1, 4 rows is now natively supported, no need to regedit

I'm just curious about why the left column is labeled ミク (Miku) =). Is that anime character Hatsune Miku?

My teacher teach me to spell my nickname "Mix" with "ミク". I use it before I know 初音ミク. And yes, the desktop background were random to Hatsune Miku at the time I take screenshot.
Hatsune Miku didn't anime character. But were the mascot of Vocaloid (singing voice synthesizer program).

It seems it depends on screen resolution, I'm using 8.1 on my VivoTab RT and I have only 3 rows.
As for 4 rows - this thing happens if you turn Tegra driver off and Windows will you its own video driver - in this case you will see 4 rows but computer will be slower.

optional - you swipe in charm menu, select add tiles, and you get 4 rows

It is ACTUALLY dependent on both screen resolution AND the physical size of the screen. I have a 1366x768 Samsung Series 7 Slate and a 1366x768 Lenovo ThinkPad Twist and the Sammie shows 3 and the Twist shows 4. If you want to see 4 on devices that only show 3, you have to use a really odd registry setting for this to happen:
In the registry, search for: “Display1_DownScalingSupported”
Modify “Value Data” from “0” to “1”
Boom.
Works for both 8 and 8.1

I created these simple wallpapers with transparency. The grey is 75% transparant.

WP7 wallpapers:
Stars pack. These are also 75% transparant:
The lockscreen becomes transparant when there is an animation, so when you touch it is tranparant.
Download:
WP7 Wallpapers.zip
Stars Pack.zip
Windows logo pack.zip
How to:
1. First download the zip file with the wallpapers.
2. Mail the wallpaper you want to yourself.
3. Go to the mail with your Windows Phone.
4. Tap on the pic in the mail. This will download it. Like pictures in e-mails.
5. Open the pic.
6. Don't save it to your phone. Tap 'use as wallpaper' from the options.
7. Now you have a nice lockscreen.
It won't work with password on!
Let me know what you think about them.
really like the idea of this, just one question, when I set it as wallpaper and wake the phone up (Not touching it) it shows the wallpaper as it should but in the background it shows the full image of the lockscreen off centre faintly in the background..
It's quite hard to explain but I don't yet have a camera I can take a picture of.. although when I do touch the screen to open it the opacity shows and looks nice..
I'm running mango if that may mean anything.
Cheers,
MVP

Glad you like the idea. It isn't working because of Mamgo. They took it out of Windows Phone 7.5. But maybe I will make wallpapers without transparency for Mango.

Same for Windows Vista? Hasn't worked so far so just checking if it's the same thing (work PC is Vista, got 7 at home so will give it a go)
Thanks, it looks great ^_^
In addition
If you are also annoyed by the little things like how it says "Portable Media Player", change the "PortableDeviceType" key to 3, that will set it as "Mobile Phone"
Thanks for the icon and instructions. Is it possible to do something similar with other USB devices that are simply storage drives?
But i still have Problems with the Tiny Icon in the Taskbar:
Its not showing the New Icon.

Awesome! Makes the whole experience more sleek
Why isn't this working for me? :\
Today i can give you the option to change the Symbol in "Devices and Printers" too
You need to do the following Steps:
Go to the following Folder:
C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\DeviceMetadataSto re\en-US
Click to expand...
Click to collapse
And add this File:
http://www.mediafire.com/?xk3y6u3xxcv9ba3
(I´ve done that by my self and used a random Number. If there is the same Filename then dont replace it!!)

I got it to change to say Mobile Phone, though.
I also tried to change it in Devices and Printers, but that didn't work either. Just says MTP.

Thanks!
Hi,
It's a simple Idea which I got while travelling yesterday.
While I was travelling, my co-passengers loved the way I use my phone and WP design and responsiveness. However they don't know that WP7 exist and didn't have enough courage to ask me, though they kept on looking my phone by comparing with thier android.
So I got an Idea, We can have a very simple app [Windows Phone Badge].
1. Create a Landscape tile [like Pictures/Calendar] and pin to Homescreen
2. This tile should display "Windows Phone 7.5 Mango" with caption "Put People First"
3. Ability to change background colors for every 3sec/duration.
That's all. As application it has nothing except settings to select the duration for live tile update.
It's simple and very interesting app which is a Badge for WP users.
Anyone interested to develop? [hardly takes 1 hour]
Is the point of this just so the user see's its a WP7 device, or is there another reason?

Just it's a Wp7 device with some live tiles experience.
There could be a problem. I think only OEM's are allowed to make 2x1 tiles. Devs cannot do that for their apps.
This is what I managed using custom tiles maker.

I'd suggest a simple solution to the OP. Try using a wp7 lockscreen
Nice work justhink. M not sure if I'd use this but this can help the OP for sure.
It's awesome. But can you add some tiles to that wallpaper and make it clear black
here is a transparent wall paper version and a solid dark background version
files attached below
I created this software that can merge the traditional desktop and new home screen of Windows 8
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
The application is responsible for making up the new home screen of Windows 8 (with dynamic thumbnails) and the traditional Windows desktop in the same window. This fusion avoids having to switch from one to the other at all times.
Using the options you can choose to set automatic shutdown while restoring the original appearance of the home screen. Useful if you enable the option to see the home screen when the program starts (combined with oblytile) you can have your personal space as an example for your games, software ...
Advanced mode allows you to set the home screen where you want on your desktop and the size you want.
Latest Version::
2.0
Changelog:
2.0 :
-Graphic change
-Advanced mode recording with a preference
-And new tab with options for various settings to make combination
For example:
click software -> displays StartScreen -> start a game -> software that closes itself and you can restore the size if you want StartScreen
Old :
-First apps with basic graphic and advanced setting. No more options.
Download:
here
This software is in english. Windows 8 32/64 RTM (i not tested in other windows 8 ...)
Is it also working on Windows RT?
I do not have windows RT to test above. You can always try, if it works I put it is compatible
I just tried it on my rt and do nothing. it stay in the task manager for 1 sec and then vanish.
I was looking for something that would let me keep my taskbar in the start screen. Thank you very much for this!
Your Sourceforge page says it's GPL'd, know where I can get at the source at?
Awesome work! Loving it!
Fantastic app, I appreciate the work. Got any new features you going to bake into this soon?
Personally, I'd love it if we can make the Modern screen stick to the desktop and not disappear when I click out of it. Is this possible?
Thanks,
This is a rather nice idea.
Is possible.
I'm not saying I'll do it.
But if I do it it will be in one week, or more.
I keep having a problem using it, When I press start it does this (look to the right)
Location of start screen: Fullscreen + Taskbar
I is not implemented when the taskbar is on the left, right and top (for the next update probably).
Otherwise to settle your problem, you go to the advanced menu and you do the adjustment manually.
You can save the adjustment.
That way you can return to the basic menu selection and you lose another location you your adjustment.
Like that you can switch from one to another for further facilitates and load your adjustment.
Hi all
after some research to customise the W8 on screen keyboard,
i have replace a duib resources by a duib xml extracted from W8 beta version....
this can also be used to edit some other parts of the Modern UI...
this work is at alpha stage an contain some visual bug as you can see at the end of this post.
i'm always working on it but i hope some users will also contribute!
you can try this mod by replacing the dll tabskb.dll by the attached version (x64)
or replace the resources UIFILE/15731 in yours using reshack.
there is a lots of customisation possibility:
add a key border (color,size...)
change key background color.
change keyboard background color...
& a lot more with better understanding of the duib xml...
you need to take ownership of the file & kill tabtip.exe....
Tested on Windows 8.1 6.3.9600.17031
Code:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\microsoft shared\ink\tabskb.dll

Windows 8.1 Hidden Start Menu Animation
During my test i have found some registry key used for the start menu animation but not present !
you can customise how the tiles appear with those keys:
Code:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ImmersiveShell\Grid]
"Launcher_AnimationOffset_Launcher_Cx"=dword:00000000
"Launcher_AnimationOffset_Launcher_Cy"=dword:00000000
"Launcher_AnimationOffset_IndividualTower_Offset"=dword:00000000
For exemple:
"Launcher_AnimationOffset_Launcher_Cx"=dword:00002000
tiles come from right.
"Launcher_AnimationOffset_Launcher_Cy"=dword:00002000
from bottom
There is also this one to have the anim like at login but this can be slow....
"Launcher_SessionLoginAnimation_OnShow"=dword:00000001

IMHO - one of the biggest things needed for windows 8.1, is opacity control, and gesture support for the onscreen keyboard. I have the 8" Dell Venue 8 Pro tablet, and when the keyboard pops up, it literally takes up 3/4 of the screen in landscape mode. Portrait mode is not so bad, I would love to have gesture support as well - swipe like functions. The feature is now on Windows Phone (gestures), why cant we get it on W8.1.
it would be good to know how to change the font size on the "extended" (full) keyboard ... I would like it to be "Bold" type like on the normal keyboard.
does anyone know of a swipe keyboard for w8.1? I Tried TouchPal and it say it has the swipe feature, however when I check it does nothing?
