[Q] Anyone with Note 8 and S4? - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Question for anyone with the Note 8 and S4. I heard there was some special syncing that can be done between the devices. Is there anything special that one can do between these devices that might be of benefit?

I jumped on the AT&T promotion. I bought my S4 back in May, but I declined the promotion because I want interested in a Galaxy Tab 2 and that was the only tablet they offered. However, when the Note 8.0 launched, they honored the promotion even though I declined when I bought the S4 originally. They gave me a Note 8.0 for the $199 promotion price once it launched. Good customer service.
Anyway, I've been playing with the syncing and the Samsung Link app is very cool. You can transfer pictures, music, etc. between your S4 and Note 8.0 wirelessly. Just put both devices on the same WiFi network and you're set. It's fast and very simple.
I admit I kinda cringed when I realized the Note 8.0 didn't have NFC. I use it a lot to transfer photos from my phone to my tablet for editing and what not. Samsung Link is a very suitable replacement, though. Definitely set it up and use it if you want to transfer stuff between your devices.

NFC would be nice but when I think about it syncing over wifi is a better option. With NFC would have to keep both devices together and they are both almost always on the same wifi so no biggie. I will check out the sync app. Thx.

Hey thanks for asking about that, it got me checking out the Samsung Sync feature. I found out I could also share photos directly to the Sony TV or through the Denon amp.

Yeah I noticed that too. I can beam photos to my Google TV box as well using the Samsung Link app.

Samsung galaxy Note 8.0(N5110) or Samsung galaxy tab 3 8.0?

I am confused between these two tablets please suggest your opinions
Purpose of tablet gaming and watching videos
Samsung galaxy note 8.0
-2gb RAM
-Quad core
-S pen
-Jelly bean 4.1.2(is 4.2.2 update available??)
-399$
(I like this tablet but I am just concerned about the update)
vs
Samsung Tab 3 8.0
-1.5gb RAM
-dual core
-Jelly bean 4.2.2
-299$
which 1 is worth?
You can easily find the note 8.0 on sale for $325 with the $25 play credit in the US. At that price I would easily say the note 8.0 is the better deal.

If you will have use for the spen get the note, if you think its just a fad then go for a cheaper option.
The main benifit of the spen is for note taking and drawing.

325$ can u tell me where
Samsung's naming scheme is confusing. This is what I've been able to come up with so far.
The Note devices are high end devices with better specs and S-pen.
The Tab devices are so-so specs-wise without S-pen (and crappy screens).
The Mega devices are Tab devices specs-wise with huge screen.
Then each line has different screen sizes. Some have phone and 3G/LTE functionality built in, and some don't.
Having said that, I own a Note 2, which's a very fine device, but I can count on one hand the number of times I actually pulled the S-pen out.
I understand their marketing strategy of "throw anything against the wall and see what sticks" but I really wish Samsung would simplify things.
Do you need a WACOM pen for taking notes? If yes, then get the Note 8. If no, then get the Tab.
you can use the tab 3 8 for note taking also. you just won't have pressure sensitivity or the great handwriting recognition software.
I dont have very fat fingers but like the s-pen for more then drawing or writing.
I use it for internet, typing, some games and find it usefull.
The tab 10.1 i have seems to give me less software problems. It's a lot slower however. I think the note 8.0 needs an update. Sometimes the screen freezes or it just needs a reboot to start working again. (although i can judge if its a combination of apps I use or that the problem lies in the tablet itself)
I would buy it again, thats my personal conclusion.

What about palm rejection? The ability to write at a comfortable angle with a stylus tip smaller than a sausage? Even if you're just taking notes, there's a world of difference imo.
heck yeah there's a big difference , but if someone wanted to save a few bucks the gt3-8 isn't really that bad. i almost considered it, but got the gn8 instead. could have gotten a refurb white for 320 but i really wanted the black/brown and the full warranty - though i've voided that lol.

Continue to check staples as well as amazon. 2 weeks ago staples was $250 with $30 in store credit and $25 google play credit. I got mine on amazon 2 weeks ago for $225 new and with the $25 google play credit.

Personally I feel the price difference really doesn't justify getting the Tab 3 8 inch. As previously stated you can get the Note 8 around the same price.

+1 to this thought. I simply don't care about the pressure sensitivity. The palm rejection is the one thing that prompted me to but the Note rather than any other tablet on the market right now.
You can write almost as comfortably as with a Pen and paper makes it a very good choice

Seriously? 225?
For, OP, you said you just wanted games and videos, why the Note 8.0? There are some very good (even cheaper) tablets out there that do a tremendous job of these.Wait a couple weeks for the Next Nexus 7, should be very good in Gaming etc. thanks to the Snapdragon 600.
The Note 8.0 is a very good device but difficult to justify the cost when you don't even need the feature that's included in its name!

[Q] Should I get a Galaxy Note 2?

I'm currently debating whether to get the Galaxy Note 2. I do have the Galaxy Note 3 and I basically wanted to try out the Galaxy Note 2 to see the difference. I've heard good and bad reviews, but I'm not entirely sure if it's going to suit my needs of messaging, social networking, calling and occasionally gaming. Is this phone worth the money and what features does it include which make it better than other phones?
Thanks!

Note 2 is awesome. I gave mine to my wife then got LG Flex but camera and screen was better on note 2 so I ended up returning the LG and got a second hand Note 2 again.
Why would you down grade, are you still in the retune period??
note 2 rocks. don't know why you'd want a downgrade if you already have a 3 though. i'm waiting on the 4 then i'll upgrade

Keep My iPad Mini Or Trade For Samsung Note 8.0?

Getting bored with my iPad. Put my iPad on craigslist and someone offered the note 8. Yay or nay?
I have both. The N5100 is my primary phone, the iPad is just used as a tablet. They are very different. You may be disappointed with the screen resolution as it is noticeably worse. If you're not specifically interested in the S Pen, Samsung has since released better tablets.

[Q] Appradio 3 mirroring note 4

Hello everybody, new to the forum here and glad to be here. Recently switched back from iPhone 5s toward to the Note 4, due to capabilities I had back when I had an Galaxty S4. The main reason I am posting this is because I recently came to the gift of having the Pioneer Appradio 3, I would like to have full mirroring capabilities without sacrificing the fact of going to appradio app to use the deck. So far my research had led me to a dead end, I have only heard of people not being able to achieve in using full mirror for their note 4. In addition, I have only heard that rooting is the best solution to use the dash. Is this true? If so, what root would be sufficient? I did come across one person saying he used the appradio3 with his note 4 using MHL connection, wondering if that would still work?

As I said above how someone used the Samsung MHL connector to their app radio to have it work with mirrorlink, does that sound possible?
Yes it does !!
Now I haven't read about the appradio in awhile, but I guess you are asking about mirroring your phone screen on your deck and using the deck's touch screen to control your apps? If so, everything I remember you will not be able to do this without root and the arliberator app which requires root (I am not even sure this works with the appradio 3. Just checked the play store and arliberator is only for the appradio 2).
If you are just asking about mirroring your phone screen and still using you phone to control the apps, then yes the mhl adapter should do the trick. Just make sure it has the 11 pin, not 5 pin, connector on it.

Is it worth to upgrade S7 edge to Note7?

Hello guys!
I am on xda forum after a very long time. Needs some guidance. I am big fan of note series but now using S7 edge. I am very happy with it but missing S pen. Took S7 edge two months ago. Should I go for an upgrade to note 7 or not?
Thanks in advance

They're the same phone, just ones a bit bigger with a pen. Do you want that? then yes get it.
Simples. =)
FYI im in much the same boat, have the S7 Edge, but want the Note 7. I shouldn't, it isn't worth it, but I want it, so i likely will.
I dont think it is. Same phone except for bigger screen. Plus now edge 7 has root. If the note has root on release maybe id change my mind.

During presentation they said something about a graphical chip "mdli" or something similar... (cant remember and it drives me crazy)... is that specific only to Note7 or also to be found on S7.
What about the HDR capability for watching videos? Secure folder? Samsung cloud? are any of this present on S7? I have Note4 and i refused to upgrade because non replaceable battery... i want to upgrade but... that's like 70% important to me

The root is bugy as hell. I've tried many different things to change that and it was still buggy. Engroot is not the same as other root methods.

The mDNIE image processor is unique to the Note 7, and I'm guessing some of that is to handle processing of HDR video. Not sure we'll see that on the regular s7 & S7 Edge.
As for Secure Cloud/folders and such, that is something I could see with an update to the Knox suite.
Sent from my SM-G930W8 using Tapatalk
How important the image processor would be for next 2 years? (assuming next buy will be when my GSM contract expires)
As i understand content needs to be adapted for this. Samsung's representative said Amazon will offer such content and probably others in the future. It does seem HDR is proprietary... will video content makers adopt it? Does it improve the HD content scene?

Hey guys what do you mean by working decently?
I need to be able to root and Note 7 will not be root able for now.
I think S7 could be a choice I can give up my S-pen for root.
I am upgrading from the S7E, because I can.
We can too but is it worth it that is the question. With Sprint update I onky pay 300 dollars but I dont think is worth it without root. From my perspective going from a root note 3 to a non root note 7 is a downgrade.
It is not an upgrade if battery life is worse.

I'm on T-Mobile Jump On Demand and I demanded it a few days ago. I also have loved having a spare battery but starting with the LG V10, and now the S7 Edge, my use no longer demands an always available spare battery. I've had the S7E since March and I've never had a completely drained phone. It was the expanded storage that brought me back to Samsung. Discovering UHQ bluetooth 24\192, to make use of the portable music library was just the cherry on the cake for me to never regret that purchase and now the new Note.
I'm going for it. Only because I got the BOGO deal for my S7E and sold the first one I got. I gave my current edge to my brother for $200 so I'm pretty much covered on the cost for the Note 7 anyways, cruising on an S5 until the phone is released. I'm honestly just interested in it for the IRIS scanner, and the S-Pen and Type-C port. Basically niche features that I enjoy experiencing. So yeah, it's not costing me anything out of pocket but if I were you, I probably would keep the S7E for now until the Note 8 comes out because they are literally the same spec phones as for internals.
Is it worth it to upgrade from s6 edge+? Using it for 7 months now.

Other than the Spen and a slightly bigger screen and some small semi gimmicky items they are real close.
Its the tamer edge screen that sold me on the note and kept me away from the S6/S7v edge devices....i hate the edge screen lol.
If your missing the Spen than yeah I guess its worth it though.
