accidentally flashed fancy kernel on XenonHD and noticed something was wrong when during "Android is Upgrading...Starting Apps" the screen flashed for a second and the "Android..." box looked like an old scanlined tv then shut off. pulled the battery, put it back in, booted it and it turned back off. now when i plug it into either the wall or my pc the charging logo appears with the lightening bolt then disappears and loops there. "hotbooted" it to charge by taking out the battery, put in the charger, put in the battery and it says its charging but when i disconnect after about 15 minutes of charging the phone wont turn on without being plugged in. but it doesnt boot and wont go into recovery from bootloader. do i need to odin and will this erase all of my flashed Page Plus information? or is there a way to force it into recovery so i can nandroid without the battery in?

You can try to reflash a recovery via fastboot..

The other morning I woke up and unplugged my phone and the "Unplug your phone" notification wouldn't go away and the phone thought it was still plugged in. If I rebooted it would just turn off and keep going from the green batter charging icon to a black screen and back. Only way I could turn the phone on would be to actually plug it in again. Problem fixed itself that evening and the phone was fine for a couple days. Today the phone started with the same thing.
I've tried searching but couldn't find anything on this specific issue. Any insight? Thanks in advance.
Brand new ept4g and I got 6hrs of battery life its so lame I have hack so much bad luck with this bad boy but I'm not giving up.

This isn't a battery consumption issue...
Anybody have this problem yet?

I'm having the same problems the last few days. Also when I unplug my phone I get a red exclamation point over my battery widget, when i open the widget it says that the battery is over voltage and the red led light won't go off. Think i'm about to go see what best buy does for me. Been dealing w/ this problem for a few days now.
Did you get a replacement? I haven't had any free time to go to sprint with my problem. It is still happening often though.
I had a similar issue the other morning. Though my phone would only boot back up in recovery mode. I reflashed it to out of the box stock but that didn't make any difference. When it did boot up it would show that it was connected to the usb port but it would not be plugged into anything. I plugged it into a usb port on my computer that I hadn't used with the phone before and it reloaded the drivers on my computer and "that" issue went away. After turning phone off it would start rebooting itself immediately or with in a few seconds of turning off. I let the battery die completely and then recharged it and the automatic reboot went away, at least for most of the day, but last night I turned the phone back off and it rebooted itself. I did reroot and restore my phone after I got it to not show the usb connected or the battery charging while the phone was off icon. Just wish I could figure out why it wants to automatically reboot itself when I shut it off.
Same issue here

My Battery Monitor Widget shows a max of 1500mah? Wtf? And a measured of under 1200?
No wonder my battery life is crazy low...

I figured a way to shut the phone off and not have it automatically reboot. If after shutting the phone off the normal way and once the screen goes black but before the capacitive lights go out, if I again press the power button, the phone finally shuts down without rebooting itself. Not sure why this is happening but at least I can get it to turn off now.
I found better battery life by determining which app or apps drain the battery. I used Battert spy, cpu spy and system tuner. My problem was Touchdown exchange for Androir 2.x. I switched to Moxier Mail. I would get hours on moderate to heavy use. I got 22.5 hours yesterday on moderate use.
I installed the ARHD 7.0.0 ROM on Monday everything was working fine, I also installed the SMooth Rosie MOD and still everything was fine. But today, I lost my phone signal and though oh well i'll leave it whilst I go to the gym, I came back and the bttery ws at 23% (Was at 91% when I left it).
I rebooted the phone and it would get to the lock screen (with no ring) then it would reboot and it constantly done that. I reset everything and formatted everything, I transfered the ARHD 7.0.0 back onto the phone but as I was trying to flash the image, from windows, the battery died, I can't seem to charge it.
All its doing at the moment is flashing the red LED. I tried resetting the LED with power presses in and Vol but it keeps coming back after a few seconds.
I really just need to know how to charge the phone, once its charged I will be able to sort it out. Oh and I can't even turn the phone on at the moment.
Thanks in advance.
Sounds like you didnt instal the boot.img
EDIT: put it in the wall charger for 10-15 minutes and dont touch it...
I put it in a wall charger and its stopped blinking. Cheers
Oh and I did install the boot image on Monday, i've been using the phone for two days, then it just lost the signal and then didn't work. Weird!
Thanks again!
Yeah....just pluggin usb charger and leave it for ~1h and U will see, it's charging.
Few days after buying HOX I was on a party with enabled wifi, async, gps ect. Lately this night my phone goes off and I wasn't able to turn it on. At home I plugged in charger but there was no charging led.
Yeah...thougt the new phone was bricked.
With plugged usb I just left it for ~1h and then...TADAA!...charging led!!!
Well tried charging it with the wall charger. At first the light when solid, I returned to it 2 hours later and the light was off. Tried to turn it of and its blinking again, I can't even turn it on Arghh!!
Running a rooted, unlocked, EVO 4g running CM 7.2.0 Rom
I've seen this same behavior twice. Once yesterday and once today.
Yesterday
Phone was plugged into usb port of laptop charging (around 50% at the time) was running Pandora and Wifi Tether (build into ROM). Phone crashes to off, no reboot attempt. Attempt to power phone back on yields no result (no lights, no screen ... nothing). Remove battery for 10-15 mins, insert and hook up to a AC charger and hit power button. Red light starts flashing, I wait for it to turn solid and try booting again. This time phone turns on and hangs at white HTC EVO splash screen. I then boot phone into custom recovery image, clear cache partition, and reboot. Phone boots ROM fully, batter reads 50% still and works fine until the next day.
Today
Phone was plugged in running Wifi tether, but not Pandora. Same behavior in crashing, removing battery, hooking up ac charger etc... this time however it didn't hang on the HTC EVO splash screen, and boots the ROM. However, the battery no reads 0% and wasn't charging. Removing the AC charger causes phone to shutdown. Reboot rom again, still read 0%, but let it sit for a few minutes and begins to charge. Appears to be charging fine and holds its own without the ac charger. **Note - battery was also around 50% or so when it crashed out
Questions:
Whats the root here? Bad battery? Bad rom? Thoughts on root cause would help if anyone has gone through this.
Thanks!
I'd say a combination of battery and ROM. Try flashing a new ROM and if it continues, try a new battery.
I am having troubles booting my phone after the battery depletes and the phone shuts off. My Optimus G is rooted with lifeless Rom v14 and I have TWRP recovery.
So once the phone dies, I plug it in to charge, and the phone screen automaticaly comes on and the LG logo flashes for a second, but nothing happens. The phone doesn't actually charge. If I remove the phone from the charger, the display still stays on until I hard reset it. I cannot access recovery mode or download mode for some reason. Usually when my phone dies, and I plug it in, it will flash the LG logo, keep the display on for a few seconds, and then shut down and restart and show the battery logo charging. I am not getting that this time, and I can't seem to do anything to get it operating again. There also isn't a red LED light to represent charging either. If anyone has had this issue before or knows how to fix it, I'd really appreciate the information right now.
Thanks

I had the exact same problem last night. (weird) I held down the power button for ~15 sec, and let the phone sit for about 15 min. I booted it and got it to load into TWRP and then put it on the charger. Let it charge in TWRP to around 10% and then booted into android and let it charge overnight. I had a mild panic attack at first but all is good now. Stupid software dependent charging.

Ok, that's definitely weird... I came to XDA because of this, it happened to me 2x and I did the same as you, let it charge in CWM till 12% ( shower time) and reboot the system. I'm not sure what exactly is causing the issue, it shouldn't be a software problem.
To try to find what's going on, lets talk about what we have in common:
ROM: Houston stock international (stock 4.1.1)
Charger: Non LG charger (htc)
Cheers
I have this problem: youtube.com/watch?v=chvRbwgT9n8
Sprint Galaxy S3, unrooted, stock
Basically one night my phone would not turn on after the battery completely drained out. Put on charger but phone would not turn on. Did the spin test on original battery and it seemed busted. Ordered a new battery, put it into phone, charged for a couple hours and have the same problem the above youtuber does. The battery icon looks identical (both the grey and ~90% one).
1) If phone is unplugged nothing happens, can't start into recovery/download/boot.
2) If phone is plugged in it will show grey battery icon for like 10s, then go to a green battery screen where it shows the battery is ~90% full. The red charging light stays on.
3) I can boot into recovery mode if the phone is plugged in but if I try to normal boot the phone it will 50% get to the S3 splash screen, vibrate, and then turn off, and then 50% of the time it will boot to the home screen but wifi and data will not work (the battery icon will show 100% at this point). After a few seconds the phone will vibrate, turn off, and return to the grey battery icon swirly and then back to the 90% green battery screen.
4) I've tried wiping cache and doing factory reset but doesn't seem to phase it.
5) Reflashing via Odin to stock doesn't fix issue.
Any ideas? It doesn't seem like the power button issue because usually in those cases the battery shows as low or it will be stuck in a constant repeating cycle. This just seems like the phone is not drawing any power from the battery. Thanks.
Update: so it appears that the longer I leave it on the charger the longer I can use it while connected. The issue now is that Wifi and data will not enable, sound intermittently works, bluetooth doesn't work. I found someone else with _exactly_ the same issue and symptoms who had a weird fix:

OK, Czech this out, I took my sim card and SD card out of the phone and tried to start it, and guess what? IT FREAKING CAME ON!!! It obviously wont function without the SIM card, and it prompted me to turn off the phone and reinstall the SIM, but after doing that, it started right back up like it was new.SO EVERYONE GIVE THAT A SHOT. We'll see if it gives me any issues.

The problem for me is that the Sprint version doesn't have a SIM card and I'm not using a SD card. Is there any reason for this madness?
