My wife's old phone (now handed down to my daughter 5 days ago) and my own are running CM7.2. Very stable, good battery life, I know wifi hotspot with security works 100%, and everything works too,
I've also recently tried tiny's cm10.1, and it was great, full featured and almost everything worked, but it had kinda bad battery life and I did run into enough small bugs (like having to run a script for trackball wake, and other minor annoyances) to cause me to flash back to 7.2.
I haven't tried a sense rom since 3.0 so I cannot help you there.
Everyone enjoys different things, for example my wife doesn't care what she is running as long as it doesn't lag or crash, and she can install and run all of her golauncher/locker/sms/contacts apps.
CM10.1
I'm on CM10.1 and it's pretty good, although the battery life isn't great as it was on a GB rom.
tiny's cyanogen 10.1 rom is awesome. great battery life for me
I play quite a bit of games.

I play bad piggies, and a few other games, all the time.
Tiny's CM10.1 had amazing battery life while the screen was off, seriously - amazing...
but it would lose about 1% per minute with the screen on and doing a lot bit of touching, such as with a game like bad piggies, or texting. It may have been just me, something with the luxe on the install i was running, or something even more mysterious. Not a bad battery, though, because the drain went away when I went back to CM7.2
Just handed down my OG to my 6 year old son a few days ago. We jumped up to GS4.

I use the INFECTED inverted ROM - outstanding ROM!!
I'm retiring my HTC Inc to be used as a GPS / Flight computer. I'm looking for a ROM that is staggeringly basic, and minimal to achieve the best battery life and simplicity. Any suggestions for a "no-frills" basic ROM?

how's battery life?
10.1 has amazing idle/sleep battery life. You get a steady decline with the screen though. With above average use I get around 10-14 hours depending on what I'm doing. With very light usage I've gotten 2 days (I have a 3 week old battery)
Try pons cm10.2 it is amazing for being the last android version besides kitkat lol the only thing not working for people is data and I have not tested it yet.

Excellent. I've gone 3 days on standby (barely talking/data). Average us you can go 1 full day no problem.
Watching videos or browsing on your commute... have a charger waiting at your destination... but that goes for a stock Inc too.
I've tried rooted stock, CM6, CM7, CM7.1, CM7.2, CM10, and CM10.1 so far on my Inc, and I'd say for merely using it as a dumb device, I'd go with CM6 or rooted stock, oddly enough. It was the last version without any weird quirks like GPS not locking, camera preview messing up, or lower resolution video capture.
Since I still use my Inc as my daily phone, I've been switching back and forth between the last nightly of CM7.2 and whatever's newest (CM10.2 is in the queue to test).

My vote is rooted stock, specifically this one. I use mine as a dashcam mostly, and this is the only one which is fast, has good battery life all around, and works reliablly recording in 'high quality' in autoguard. Granted I have not attempted any 4.x rom since the early ICS builds.
I would never go back to stock on my Inc the cm10.2 is amazing on this phone for speed and stuff unless u need data right now and I think gps locks and works

So I'm new to the android community coming from an iphone 4S, and so far it's pretty awesome. lol. I've tried two ROM's, AOKP and TuchMi. So far i'm enjoying TuchMi since it brings the stock with all of Samsung's features, plus overclocking, V6 and all that. performance has been nice. As i'm trying to get more into android, I wanted to know you guy's thoughts on the two ROM's or maybe any other ones that might be better?? thanks in advance!

I was hoping this thread to run good since I am trying to get an idea on roms since I just got my S III today.
We got enough good roms going.
I mean we have a subsidized carrier phone, so it's pretty natural for the international counterpart would get more attention.
With that said, I love AOKP.
AOKP is beast. Just trying to test out different ROM's, but seriously, if you like touchwiz, check it out. Only thing is, my apps say they are invalid when I download. Any help??

Diet ICS
Also tried TuchMi, it was pretty good.
Currently using the diet ICS build from 08/04 with the latest BLUE theme installed (found in the diet ICS thread from peterguru) and it looks and works great. Running ktoonz latest kernel (which allows underclocking to 192MHz and has more steps than faux123's v009) and smokin's CPU Editor with Battery Saver. Great battery life, great performance, awesome blue "diet" theme. Probably my favorite so far.
To be honest though the thing that made me switch and flash diet ICS over TuchMi 5.0 was the inclusion of Google Wallet (although now my phone thinks its a Galaxy Nexus ) -- still haven't been able to test it out in the wild though...

I've been on TuchMi-S3"X" 5.0 since i got my phone 2 weeks ago. So far the best. I tried Diet rom too, but it was a little skinny for me (lol?).
I tried AOKP today and I had used AOKP on my Atrix before, but I went back to TuchMis3x right away because its so far the best. Stable, Battery is insane too!
I'm just waiting for CM10 to fully come out for our phones and i'll make the switch!
Sooo, I switched from TuchMi to AOKP, and right after, my battery starts to drain. Drained about 5% within 2min. Running TuchMi, my battery barely moves. Now I'd have to say that it is successfully the best ROM imo. only problems are: my Google account syncs on and off with contacts, and sometimes i get a blue screen fracture. idk.

If your battery drained that fast then something is wrong. Almost 11 hours on battery with 2 hours of screen time, lte on all day and wifi on past 3 hours and I am sitting at 62% right now. I am on aokp ics right now. Only thing keeping me from newer updates is that HBO go doesn't work in any of the cm10 based in roms yet that I know of
I would also like to point out that it takes several battery cycles before a rom fully settles in and you find out how it truly performs with battery.

Thanks for that. Like I said, I'm new to this so I didn't know what was going on, so the first thing that came to my mind was to go back. Now I just flashed the AOKP jb ROM. The AOKP that i had before was the CM9 based one i believe? lol. Either way, thanks man. added a little more confidence for me lol.
Jellybro from Euroskank the best one for my needs. not the last one though. 2 days battery, butter smooth, love the Jelly aesthetics and simplicity.
When the bugs are worked out of paranoid android I would say give that a run. The ability to run phone and tablet on one device together flawlessly is great. Plus you ave full control over the size of all apps and the such.
JellyBro is my top pick, then would be a stock ROM ([ROM]{??/??/????}TEAM_INSOMNIA PrEsEnTs ARISTODEMOS) and after that I'd say AOKP CM9 based for EXTREMELY long battery life.
been using cm9 for a few days, perfectly stable so far and great battery life. Can't beat stock ics
Blazer
I have been on Blazer O/C with the Kalagas mixed ICS Theme and love it. Seems all the stock based ROMS are fine with some nice tweaks
I'm currently looking for a ROM base to modify to my needs. I really like the features available in cm but I'm not sure if cm10 (stock) is stable enough for production use yet. Does anyone have experience with this?
Been using it for about a month now and have no issues what so ever, I recommend the builds by Euroskank as he adds some really useful features.

GPS is perfect. Locks immediately. Battery life is nothing to write home about. I have the official extended battery and with decent use I might get 8hrs if I'm lucky. I'm up for ideas on other JB ROMs for Verizon that have better battery life.

JTFC, that's awful. How does it compare with what you had on ICS? I get decent battery life on JB (CM10), but still slightly lower (10-15%) than on CM9, but 1.5 to 2 days is still possible with my use + 3 hours screen on or so over that time. This holds true for all the JB ROMs I've run. 4-5 hours of screen on time over a workday of hard use is still possible for me, but idle drain seems to be hit/miss, some nights 0.25%/hour, other's 1%. Sync seems to be a more of a battery eater on JB, and I haven't bothered running Google Now since the first day or two I ran JB.
Shall see how today's JRO03L build performs.

Unfortunately I don't have anything to compare it to. The GNex was a warranty replacement for my old Thunderbolt. After I got the GNex I immediately rooted and threw the first JB ROM on it I could find. I will keep searching through various threads in the development forum and see what I can come up with.
Oh and thanks for confirming my suspicion that my battery life is below average. The weekend is here. Plenty of time for experimenting

I highly recommend Better Battery Stats if you don't have it already. There's a free XDA version posted on the site, but the Market version is well worth the ~3$ also. Sync and location services (GPS or Google) and Google Now seem to be the biggest offenders on JB. I run sync and location sparingly.
That said, the GN is definitely no battery queen unfortunately :crying:

Think it all comes down to what you want, I typically run one for a while, try another till I find a good home.. So far... I've ran CM10, Super Galaxy 1.8, AOKP. If you are looking for an all around good battery life and super stable setup. Both the Gingerbread Blazer ROM and ICS Blazer Rom are great. I got 5 days on one charge once with the GB Blazer ROM.
Well I was using Caulkins' but recently tried The Universe and Blu Kuban. And I really really like Blu Kuban.
I've been using Phantoms CM10 and I love it, JB is the way to go
CM10 nightlies.. if I could only figure out how to get the mounts changed because I don't use an external sd card..
I agree on the cm10 latest nightly but make sure to flash 5.3 first or it may give you sdcard errors.

For daily use CM9 beta 1. I don t think CM10 is quite polished enough although its fun to try out and see whats will be ready soon. For touchwiz roms my recent favorite is Coalition black
No-Name was what I ran the longest.
About to switch to nightlies from the 5.3 alpha CM10 from Phantomphreak53. I loved the theme in No-Name, and battery life was fair. I got to say though, the CM10 is the coolest thing I seen on this phone since I tried Hybrid Paranoidandroid ICS. Tempted to try the JB version. I got two batteries and on CM10, I get 4 hours on one and 5 on the other. On No-Name I got 10-14 hours on the bigger battery, with 2-3 hours screen time.
No google Now on No-Name.
Google Now works good in CM10. The 5.2 has SD cards backwards, and it gets flopped in 5.3. 5.3 has more bugs. google search gets an update after installing the ROM (that doesn't happen in 5.2) and using the keyboard and typing in chrome or built-in browser is causing FCs. I think it may be from taking the search update, just haven't tested this yet. The Apollo app in 5.2 kept adding the same songs to the list every reboot. I moved the music from external to internal SD and that fixed the issue. Bluetooth pairing was instant in 5.2, but I had to remove and repair every time in 5.3. When playing music, in 5.3, turning the screen on will cause audio to cut out for a split second. Those are things I was having issues with. I like the ROM so much still, I can't bring myself to dump it. It is fast and smooth in most areas, and Phantomphreak53 will work this till it is smooth and stable, just look at his other work. Top notch Dev. there! I use my phone twice as much now with JB. May be part of why I only get 5 hours on battery.
ICS ROMs I really like:
Agats
BluKuban
PhantomHacker
For some reason or another always came back to Agats.
The day I became paranoid [http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1867283] I fell in love and have yet to leave. Keep in mind this is JellyBean based and still being worked on. However, I have yet to run into any real problems besides battery life, but there are some things you can do to help that and eventually it will be better. Nothing beats controlling individual app DPI settings, as wells as themes, and so on [at least for me].
cm9 beta 1. awesome battery/stability/daily driver.
I use CM10 nightlies with little issues. If you have a problem with superuser, just download SuperSU in it's place.
I just flashed Clean Blue (ICS): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1910714
Awesome because it gives a pure ICS feel/theme over TouchWiz. Been great so far!

I've had issues with some stables as well as some nightly's myself, so I don't think it makes too much of a difference IMO on what it's technically called. I'm currently on the 20130101 build of CM10.1 and have been running it for over a month with only one random reboot and no issues at all. If you don't use bluetooth then I'd recommend it.
Do you mean F-A-S-T really? CM7.2 runs fastest amongst all plain, untouched ROMs on my device.
I know CM10.1 is buttery smooth, but it's still Android 4.x. It still bogs a yearold phone down somewhat (you may not feel that, anyway, I don't feel bogged down THAT much but it counts). And that's where a very clean 2.3 build like CM7 come in handy. Plus app compatibility is better, if you're not into Android 4.x specific apps.

You could try Pac-man Rom. I've only had one reboot. And it's pretty snappy opening apps.

Thanks. I"ll give both those a shot. It needs to be fast and stable because im giving my wife my old phone, and she is not nearly as technically minded as I am - i just upgraded to a Galaxy S III with LTE - and I'm hooked. Only drawback is the GS3 needs a physical keyboard variant.
If its for someone not technical you should use either CM7 or The Peoples Rom. They seem to have the best battery life and are the most stable.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2
CM7 and the GB TouchWiz roms seem to be the most speed and battery-efficient roms for our devices, but honestly the newer JB roms like PACMan/Provision/CM10/etc. have been pretty damn stable and impressive, depending on how you use it.
Hello everybody.
I've rooted and modded the Samsung Galaxy W of my girlfriend but now i'm facing a lot of strange battery issues: the battery drains really fast and she hates it.
I've tried CM9 RC6 and SlimBean but the problem is still here. I've got no time to waste on trying 20 ROMs so i'm asking you a suggestion.
She was really excited about the stock ROM. It was fair enough for her, apart from the bloatware that couldn't be uninstalled and some random reboots and freeze.
So, i'm searching for something like that:
Great battery life
Stable and reliable ROM
Possibly CM based or AOSP
In my opinion, a CyanogenMod 7 would be great, but i can't find it for the SGW.
Could you please help me?
Thank you!

Thank you!

Slim-3.1.0 Ancora 12/06/12 Unoffical with standard kernel (or with Fofivo as the other user said). Noted!
I'll wait for more suggestions before wiping and flashing again. I wanna be sure this time..

Stock one is awesome and better battery life
And if you want more ram use forfivo but battery life will be less than with stock one
What about those ones?
77ROM - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2166571
AOSP - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102599
SlimICS - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2132748
They seems pretty basic too.
I've checked Paranoid Android and Pac-Man too but i think they've got too much stuff that i don't need and she won't use.

from those 3 links i prefer aosp..and without mods..for launcher just use nova/apex..
and for my suggestion try cm9rc7..

My honest advice:
Do not consider anything except Stock ROM with Value Pack or CM9.
Its not that those other coders are not talented. But - it's like with those small, heavily tuned / modified Honda Civics driving around: Their owner / creators and other enthusiasts love them for their custom mods, but you really could/would not give such a car to your girldfirend, mother, or whatever.
sooner or later you run into problems that will never be fixed, nothing for daily usage by a non-IT-person.
With beta 6, i guess you mean RC6?
Battery lasting, the missing fm radio and a sometimes not-100%-stable camera would be the only drawbacks i see for it.
Performance and overall fluidity is at least one class over the stock rom, really remarkable.
Maybe there will be better battery performancee with CM9 in the future, as it is not really clear atm, what causes the impacts.
But i think its unlikely that it will ever reach the Stock ROM under this aspect, as the new features are simply likely to consumer more cpu cycles then before.

CM9 RC6 was actually my first choice, because a friend of mine is using it without any problem. Anyway, i've experienced the huge battery drain even with CM9 RC6.
I can give a try to CM9 RC7 but i'm wondering: wouldn't it be better to choose a ROM with the 2.x kernel?

Yes, i meant RC6, sorry.
Sadly, battery performance is crucial for my girlfriend. Anyway, i just want a "normal" battery drain; what i'm experiencing is a very massive battery drain, totally abnormal.
Would you suggest me a Stock ROM with Value Pack? Maybe it's the better choice...
for me battery drains so fast because of to many apps..just install apps only for daily use..
yeahh i can see some of us back to 2.6..
rc7 impress me..see the ss..with stock battery(old one)..

I think the same but she's just like 20 apps, Pinterest, Instagram, GoogleReader, Dolphin, GMail, and stuff like this.
Regarding your screenshot, 17% left after 10 hours is not so great.
This is her phone now:
Can i install a 2.x kernel on CM9 RC7?
like i told you before..i use my old battery and stock 3.0kernel rc7..my battery usually last no longer than 5-6hrs..
you got 16hrs..that better than mine..
if you want 2.6 kernel i think it is better to install cm9 rc2..

5 - 6 hours? How can you use the phone? You can't even go outside for a dinner that you have to charge your phone.
Do you mean that you actively use the phone for 6 hours or what?

You mean these ones?
Black Notes: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483072
RebelROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1673875
Bagux Project Rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1687854
They're pretty old and discontinued but they could be enough for my girlfriend. I'll check them better later.
Thanks!

beside the aosp & cm9..try queen anne's revenge or biohazard..
Sent from my GT-I8150 using xda app-developers app
These ones?
Queen Anne's Revenge: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2161091
BioHazard RoM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1927428
They're just customized CyanogenMod, and i've already have problems with CyanogenMod. If i would try CM another time, i would stick to CM9 Unofficial
Even if Queen Anne's Revenge is aimed to best battery life and it's made by an italian (as me ). It's interesting...
I think i'm gonna flash one of those modified stocks! Wish me luck!
At the end of all my tests, i've decided to keep using F.A.W. (Rls 3, from the same branch of Rls 2): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626827
It's simply a powered Samsung stock but it's rocking stable, really fast, enough good looking and with a huge battery life!
Perfect for my girlfriend!
