[Q] Looking for a FAST ROM, Epic4G - Epic 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can anyone reccomend a solid, fast and battery-friendly ROM for my old Epic? Currently I use Paranoid Android, and while very nice, the battery life and speed of opening apps and such is disappointing.
Thanks!

CM10.1 has been good all the way around for me. Do you use bluetooth?

nope. I"ll give it a whirl but i have no interest in flashing a new rom every week or so - only intersted in stables, not nightlies

I've had issues with some stables as well as some nightly's myself, so I don't think it makes too much of a difference IMO on what it's technically called. I'm currently on the 20130101 build of CM10.1 and have been running it for over a month with only one random reboot and no issues at all. If you don't use bluetooth then I'd recommend it.

Do you mean F-A-S-T really? CM7.2 runs fastest amongst all plain, untouched ROMs on my device.
I know CM10.1 is buttery smooth, but it's still Android 4.x. It still bogs a yearold phone down somewhat (you may not feel that, anyway, I don't feel bogged down THAT much but it counts). And that's where a very clean 2.3 build like CM7 come in handy. Plus app compatibility is better, if you're not into Android 4.x specific apps.
Sent from HTC Incredible S @ CM10.1

You could try Pac-man Rom. I've only had one reboot. And it's pretty snappy opening apps.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2

Thanks. I"ll give both those a shot. It needs to be fast and stable because im giving my wife my old phone, and she is not nearly as technically minded as I am - i just upgraded to a Galaxy S III with LTE - and I'm hooked. Only drawback is the GS3 needs a physical keyboard variant.

If its for someone not technical you should use either CM7 or The Peoples Rom. They seem to have the best battery life and are the most stable.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 2

CM7 and the GB TouchWiz roms seem to be the most speed and battery-efficient roms for our devices, but honestly the newer JB roms like PACMan/Provision/CM10/etc. have been pretty damn stable and impressive, depending on how you use it.

[Q] Most stable ROM?

I'm interested in gathering opinions about which ROM i should try out first. I'm on a bit of a slow connection here so downloading can take a bit and there are quite a few rom's listed so i'm not sure where to start.
I've been thinking of trying out Open Kang. Any thoughts on it? I've primarily used CM in the past but I'm looking for something closer to stock with minor improvements and tweaks.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1402341
I'd recommend that!
I've been using it ever since I rooted my phone!
Battery life is quite nice, and in his ROM control you can play around with a whole bunch of settings.
Plus his nightlies are fairly often
I use bigxies rom, now 'apex 1.0' with francos kernel and its stable and fast. I tried open kang but i went back to bigxies. I don't now why, but i like bigxies rom more.
Tranquil ice had horrible battery and reboots for me, miui was sloooowww and buggy; it was v4 btw, now I'm on gummy next .66 outstanding so far

I'm using this one since a while and it works very well. Reminds me a lot on CM.
I'll stay with this one until the CM nightlies are coming.
But I reckon if you want to use something which is closer to stock you shouldn't use this one. However some of the features are really cool. For example the possibility to change the order of the soft buttons.
Like Open Kang but Manhattan IC102 got more custom settings and using that one. Both good stable ROMs with good battery life
Android revolution HD is my fav
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
Manhattan, AOKP, Apex and gummynex are all very similiar and equally stable. CM and vicious are too buggy for now imho.
I prefer aokp over apex.
I use ARHD 2.1.4
very good and stable. maybe slower in update than others, though
rootzboat v7.1 hands down!
Since you have a nexus, build from source. You'll have the stablest rom then.
I've change rom
To Apex, by bigxie, with OCUV, best battery and speed ever

AOKP vs Cyanogen 9 vs Slim ICS?

Which rom do you like best and why?
I'm currently running CM9, Coming from the stock GSM 4.0.1, I think the battery on CM9 is heaps better but what are the others like? Thanks.
I want battery percentage (required) and possibly OC.
Also, If i was to flash AOKP is there any way to backup my homescreen? I've spent a while setting it up and it takes a while to do so. Thanks

Aokp got more features and less stability. I prefer cm coz I can't withstand frequent reboot. Can't stay on aokp more than one day.
I am using Nova launcher. It got backup function.
But I prefer to use ROM manager + cwm to backup the whole ROM before I try sth new and risky.

How does the battery compare? I'm on AOKP now and I find it very unstable. Once I click unlock it takes like 2 seconds for screen to come on.
I use AOKP M5 on a daily basis and I have been since M4 and its stable as a rock for me. Plus all the features are a great plus
Cm9 is too incomplete.. aokp is too slow. Slim has all the aokp features and its fast
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
I too was wondering the sake, I just got my GN yesterday rooted it and first thing I did was flash AOKP because I've heard so much about it coming from a GS2. And so far I found it stable but am curious about CM9 and slim as well. So I too would appreciate some feedback
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
I've been using AOKP with the tuv A1 kernel. For the most part it has been pretty stable and faster than what I was used to. The only times I have had any issue is with a lockscreen. If I use one, sometimes the phone freezes when trying to unlock. This has been frustrating for me since I am using a Seidio case. I have to remove the phone case to get to the back to pull the battery. The battery cover is a big enough pain in the ass. The case makes it worse. I have since turned off the lockscreen completely and I haven't had a freeze in 2 days.
I was kinda leaning towards slim ICS as well to test the waters on that one.

so make a nandroid backup and go and try the rom.
no one can tell you the ROM is good/bad or whatever, you have to make that conclusion yourself. its like saying, rock music is the best music. some people may agree and some will disagree. will you decide the answer to it without trying it? no... just go try it.
there are WAY too many threads on "whats the best rom?" "which rom to use?" ..... just read the thread and conclude yourself.
AOKP is not slow. CM9 is definitely incomplete hence "nightly"
I have never heard of a slim rom. Wish they would port it to the Sprint GN.
I'm on CM9 but Slim is a good, lightweight, quick ROM. It has some of the features of popular features of AOKP built in. I've run it in the past, and wouldn't hesitate to run it again.
Using slim now, never got a full day out of AOKP, to unstable for me. How does the battery compare? I remember having 50% after one day with data off and 2g on on CM9, and wondering how the battery compares.
you forgot liquidsmooth!
personally, i use aokp m5 and have had no problems...
I am running the latest CM9 Nightly on my Verizon Nexus, and my Wife's Nexus is on AOKP 5.
My personal opinion I prefer CM9, is more low key and not so flashy, but still super fast / smooth, and has a great color control to really make the AMOLED screen pop.
I do like the million options AOKP 5 offers in settings, but CM9 will be getting those eventually. But something about the stripped down clean feel of CM9 appeals to me more.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
CM9 for sure its rock solid and stable and the kernel is superfast and great on battery like you said. Just wait until they put theme manager in again ... it may be there as soon as the next nightly it looks like
AOKP is unstable, I always ditch it and its getting a bit bloated for my liking and i don't find I use much of the features anyway
Slim ICS is good if you dont want any features lol
AOKP not stable and slow? Mmmm disagree from here to heaven...
Been on aokp since m4 now on m5 + Franco, run buttery smooth and great battery /feature rich.. Had not a single problem with it and wouldn't change it for anything
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
Never had a single problem with AOKP and I use my phone heavily on a variety of features plus benchmark tests as well.
That was all with a dirty flash from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 builds so I don't understand where the slow or unstable is coming from.
if you stick to the milestone releases with AOKP you are *pretty much* good to go but the in between builds are always buggy ... like the build where AOKP set your bluetooth address to a generic one for and not your actual phones address, for example. I've also had random reboots with AOKP. AOKP uses it's users as the beta testers and gets bug reports from them.
the OP asked for advice and i told him my experience with AOKP, other users mileage may vary but, there is no denying AOKP non milestone releases have new bugs per release. Having said that AOKP is a beast of a rom and Team Kang are pushing the forefront for ICS features.
IMO if the OP wants a smooth rom with stability and more features properly tested and added daily you can not beat the CM9 experience on the Gnex. that is all
peace

Yep, CM9 is moving a long very nicely lately, and the pace has really picked up in the last week or so, some big development updates every other release now. Next update tomorrow or Tuesday will have some really cool features implemented.

Agreed, CM9 has really been picking up speed now that the new build servers are online. Can't wait for the theme chooser implementation in the new builds ...

[Q] Current Latest and Greatest Rom for Inc2

Hello everyone,
I'm new here and new to this scene, but familiar with hacking on other types of devices. My sis just upgraded her phone and gave me a Inc2. My first instinct was to hack it and so I ended up currently with a rooted S-off Inc2. My next issue is what Rom to use. I see so many out there and have had problems trying to install a couple. Since ther are so many, i know theres no clear cut "Latest and Greatest" but as i stand now, i have no clue where i should be looking. So I'm asking what u guys would consider latest and greatess. I'm really looking into going as high up in the OS as possible while also having the best stability with as much working as possible. Any Idea's?

What do you prefer? For ASOP, we have some very stable ICS CM9 ROM's and Stable CM10 Rom's. The CM10 ROMs don't have a working ffc camera or 720p camcorder, but everything else seems to work. For those who like sense, Nit's Sense 4 Viper Rom is quite nice. I typically change ROM's every two weeks, so i have tried quite a lot.
I vote for aeroevans CM10 or if you want ICS then Condemned Soul's Kangdemnation
Vivow using XDA Premium
Viperinc all da way

Well I'm not sure wether to go ASOP or Sense but from what i gather most ppl prefer ASOP, so I guess i would also. I generally would like to have everything working also.
Another thing thing would be that would i need to flash anything else besides the rom? Like kernels or anything?

Most of the op's have it spelled out exactly what to do , usually they include the kernel in the ROM
Btw : I think any of the still supported ROMs that you will find in the inc2 section are great I can't really quantify a ranking of them

Paranoid Android its a Phone/Tablet hybrid if you don't use the ffc or video that much it is my daily at the moment. "(11-4-2012)(JB)(CM10) Global 4.1.2 (4.2)" and "{10-25-2012}{Rom}{ICS} Official Global CM9" are pretty smooth running roms (I haven't had a chance to give build 3 of CM10 a try yet). "[ROM] [Port] Andromadus Mimicry 1.5 [CM9.1 Stable]" another very good ICS rom and very stable as well. Those are the ones I have been messing with the last couple of months. I think it is all in your tastes amigo. If you are a flashaholic like most of us I am sure you will try most of them.
ViperINC if you don't need BT audio. There are issues with the fact that the beats audio controls the BT audio and there is no output.

Currently your favorite ROM?

Hello guys,
I'm new to the whole rooting game and I'm looking up new ROMs for my phone just to see what each team offers. Right now I'm using JellyBomb it's pretty dope but I'm not a big fan of the blue and black. Haha So if you can tell me what ROM you're using and why I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks!

I'll typically run The People's Rom or Mother of All Roms (MOAR) Can't go wrong with any, We are lucky to have a great group of developers for the S3, so there are so many options, customization's, Kernels and things, just gotta try till you find the best fit for you and your needs.

Just a question... how often do you even use the multi-view lol? I just honestly don't see how/when it'd ever come in handy... besides to "show it off" but even then, our screens are not big enough for it really... hence why it was a Note II feature originally!

I thought I would never use it, but now I no longer use folders on my desktop, except for games. I just open apps (wether 1 or 2)from sidebar. I really use it more and more everyday. So theres not an instance where you wanna open an app without closing another 1. I use the sidebar to open even just 1 app, easier than folders to me.

Right now, I'm loving liquidsmooth rc2. Smooth, fast, and great battery when combined with the BMS kernel
I'm about to try peoples, it seems pretty nice. I was gonna try Liquidsmooth 4.2.2 but it doesn't have photosphere and I really love that camera!
You can always flash the stock 4.2 camera with photosphere. I did that and am currently using two stock cameras on my phone. I don't have the link readily available on my phone, but I'll try to get it to you by morning, when I'm back up on my laptop.
You could also search for it over in the apps and mods section, I think if you search for "photosphere" you can find it over there (pretty sure that's where I found it).

I'm currently running Pac v. 21.0.0.
Question, does this ROM have boosted audio? Reason I ask is because even when not using the built-in DSP Manager, my music sounds horrible no matter what music app I use. It sounds like its boosted a lot but makes my headphones cut out almost. I like to stick with AOSP Roms and like AOKP but would like a ROM with no audio tweaks whatsoever. Thanks. PM me some info. Thanks.
I would recommend liquidsmooth, if you don't run across the issue of reverting back to the the nv subscription after rebooting.Other than that, the rom is, so far, the smoothest rom i have seen as of yet.
With most 4.2.x roms, you are bound to run into a problem, either big or small, only because its relatively new. 4.1.2 is generally more stable because its been around for so long.
Liquid Smooth is now stable. HIGHLYYYY recommended. When I first started to flash ROMs I flashed like literally 5 a day... then I found Liquid Smooth a week into my flashing addiction and this ROM has cured my addiction. I have yet to flash another since Liquid Smooth came out (over a month ago).

Yeah, for me both CarbonRom and LiquidSmooth have been my consistent ROMs. The only time I flash other ones is when I'm trying to help troubleshoot problems for others here on XDA.
+1 liquidsmooth stable.
i am currently using Miui rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087638
i have also recently been using unofficial Carbon http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2193751
but was on the port of AOSP 3.10 rom for the longest time http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2142668
I'm also enjoying LiquidSmooth. I've flashed quite a few TW and AOSP/KP roms recently and this is the best so far. Zero problems (OK - one very minor aesthetic annoyance, but I'm letting that go).

New dinc for me ROMs?

I bought the dinc after my commando was smashed by a semi last week. I have a little experience with custom roms and this is my third android based phone. I received the phone yesterday and it will be rooted by me tomorrow. But I wanted to know what roms you guys find to be best also any tweaks that are useful. This phone a three years old and I know you guys have come up with some dos and don't so rather than reinventing the wheel I figured IDE use my first post to list what I'm looking for and see what you recommend.
Stability stability stability! I won't be changing every week once I find one I like that will be it. I can't devote the time to constantly update and tweak it plus this is my daily driver so I need it to work above all else.
Speed I know these guys don't have the fastest processors so if i have to choose between load speed and looking cool or cute animations I choose speed.
Battery life I'm running a 2800 mah slim battery but I spent that money because I don't want to charge it not to waste battery life.
Media I do use my phone extensively to play music, watch, movies, photos, photos, photos, anything that optimizes these features I'm all about trying out.
Also anything I should stay away from do to extensive bugs ect please let me know. I will read all I can about these roms as you suggest them and of course report how they do for me here as well as the phandriod.com site. Thanks in advance for all the knowledge I'm about to get hit with ill try not to ask too many stupid questions

Thanks tiny! There are soooo many of them which is good but are there any standouts? What are the major differences between the GB and the aosp? i know on my og evo the aosp roms seemed to save batt but that all i know and i don't really know that. I do like the miui icons tbh but I think I can use those with whatever rom but I like the minimalist if nature of the miui setup.
I have rooted three phones and installed custom roms on them but am really brand new to the android or smart phone game only been messing with droids for 3 months now. Idk just looking for info are there any seance or Gb roms you think I should stay away from.?
