3g USB stick via otg - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is that possible to have a 3g/4g stick and use it with a USB cable to my phone? Has anyone tried it?

Is the USB modem supported in Linux? Most likely not, and that doesn't leave a bright future for Android.

No.. They are supported.. Maybe not all, but I've seen many tablets with android a.k.a Linux that support internet via 3G/4G dongles.. Maybe we need some application for them to run, I've no idea atm.. Cheers

What I know of is CDC (needs kernel support) or proprietary protocols like MS' rndis;
It depends on the piece of hardware though. If i was the OP, i would buy a 3G/4G usb modem WITH WIFI HOTSPOT.
Edit: Something like this but for tuna, ofc.

I found another thread on how to make every 3g dongle work with tablets so I think I can try this method. WiFi hotspot will be the best idea but costs money and the plain 3g dongles ate given for free with a contract.

Most Modems are Sim based. If you need it for your mobile phone, remove the sim from the Modem, and insert it into your Phone.

I was able to use PPPWidget (go to the market to download) and follow the related forum.
I'm using a 3g dongle like a charm

True, but then you wouldn't have a voice service, only data. But yeah, also an option if voice is not needed here.

What does Nexus 7 hotspot do?

I have the WiFi only variant and under networking options in settings, I am given the option to tether. I tried it out, and it created a hotspot which I recognized with my phone.
What is the purpose of this? To share WiFi that other devices have access to already? Maybe as a network repeater?
Would really like to know the answer.
Thank you!

INNNNteresting... the Nexus 7 2012 has that feature removed on the 3G model - much to everyone's annoyance. I wonder if this means I'll be put back in on the 2013 model...

If the Wi-Fi only model has it, I don't see why not.
Still want to figure out the purpose of this though.
I have actually been looking for something that would allow me to tether from a wireless connection.
Not that I say that stealing WiFi is good, when I go to hotels, I can often spoof my mac address to gain connectivity to the network. Wondering if I can spoof address on my nexus, then tether to my laptop, even though this could just as easily be done on my laptop.

No. It doesn't.
I really don't know what purpose it would serve on a n7 WiFi. I use it in reverse, I will create a hotspot on my LTE phone so the n7 can piggyback on that when I don't have WiFi available.
you can use it to create a LAN and transfer files between devices...at very fast speeds...

My hotspot worked this way two days ago but now when started then original wifi connection is lost by the nexus?
Any ideas what I may have changed?

It could be for remote wireless charging, via your Qi. A little known feature called Wi-Qi.
jk LOL

I have noticed this too. I remember it would maintain WiFi connection with tether enabled, now it doesn't. Not sure if its due to the JSS15Q update or that I recently flashed Bulletproof kernel.

Hello,
Is it the New Nexus 7 released in 2013?
If yes, I am not even aware it is available yet although I did read in the news that a man from China got it by mistake while shipping it from USA.
Do not tell me that you are that guy
Well, if you have the old model, Nexus 7 2012, then you have posted this in the wrong thread.
If you have the new Nexus 7, It depends that you can run custom roms or not. No one has seen the binaries or flash images for the New Nexus 7 so I can not say it might work or not. You might have to take the risk if you still want to try.
Also, I think unless LTE is integrated with some system files, you will be cool to go and not be able to use communications but that is still highly unlikely because from the old Nexus 7 LTE model, I know the source binaries were quite different.
You can even hard brick your device.
My advice, enjoy the LTE till it is official.
I work for a mobile company in the UK. So I have a final test one. A nexus 2013 LTE.

Any word on a release date?
Can you make a nandroid of that rom beforehand and upload it?
(I would recommend against using TWRP for the moment as it has a lot of issues with nandroids, there seem to be a working CWM at the moment)

Probably never will make any voice calls, they so far go on overlaid 3g networks due to lots of upgrades required in the backhaul. Voip, ie. CSipSimple, is the way to go. And you will need a headset.
The Phone App is in the filesystem but doesn't show in the ui.
I'm hoping this will be different as it uses a different chip than the nexus 7 3g(2012)
The 2013 N7 LTE should be using a APQ8064-1AA + MDM9615A + WTR1605L,
which is very similar to the APQ8064 + MDM9615A + WTR1605L on the N4.
While it might be (hypothetically) possible for it to do so in hardware, it could still be disabled.
Both the N4 and 2013 N7's wifi/bt chips also support fm radio at the silicon level, but it's disabled at the chip level.
The LTE on the N4 is disabled at the firmware level (as the lte mod is due to leftover code, if it were not for that it doesnt have LTE period)
It could have voice calls disabled at the silicon level, chip level, firmware level, or rom level, since they can easily spec modems that have broken voice call support since it's not used in the first place.

Tethering to the Xbox 360 slim

Does anyone have a solution to being able to do this? It doesn't connect saying it can't get an ip address.
People say that it's because of the drivers put in on 4.2 (they are right it seems, I can get it to connect on a4.0 and 4.1 rom.)
Any sort of workaround other than downgrading. I'm tired of bridging it through my laptop

I do it all the time and works good. Check your internet setting on the Xbox. I just have them set to auto. The NAT might not be open but it isn't strict either.

AOKP milestone 2. you can find it on their website. It is kinda old but very stable.
4.2 rom
I haven't been able to get a tether with my nexus on any jelly bean 4.2 or higher I've just decided to stay on 4.1.2 forever since this issue doesn't seem to be a focus of the devs
Yeah, I asked one Dev and he said that if its a problem with the drivers there is nothing they can do

Using Samsung software on a Macbook Pro

I am considering getting the Note 2, but have never owned a Samsung phone before. I have a Macbook pro as my only computer and just wanted to know if their Samsung software works on a Mac and whether I can flash ROMs using my Mac instead of a Windows PC? I currently have an LG phone and this has been an issue

ROM/Kernel that supports Wireless Charging + USB OTG?

Afternoon everyone:
Sorry if this has been asked before. I have been searching the Dev forums and can't seem to find what I need.
1. I want to be as close to stock as possible.
2. I want DoubleTap2Wake/Sweep2Sleep (if possible)
3. I want to be able to use my wireless charger WHILE using a USB OTG keyboard.
Does anyone know of a combination that will make this possible?
Thanks for any help.
Tests so far that do not work:
1. Stock w/ stock kernel
2. Stock + Bulletproof kernel
3. Stock + ElementalX kernel
4. CM11 w/ default kernel

My usb otg does not work in android UI but, it works in recovery mode.
Still have not found a solution to this. If anyone does have a way to use an OTG device (specifically a keyboard) while on a wireless charger, care to help?

I got 2 Nokia DT-910 stands when they were on clearance at AT&T for $10 each. I also got a charging pad (Nokia DT-900) a year ago for $15 or $25, but AT&T had them on clearance recently too for $5.
