[Q] SCH-R760 vs SPH-D710 - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

A friend of mine is stuck using a Galaxy S II on US Cellular. The model number of the phone is SCH-R760. It seems almost everything here is for the Sprint version of the phone (SPH-D710). I am looking to help her root and install a fresh clean rom. Does everything here for the SPH-D710 work for the SCH-R760? Are there special rooting instructions? Are there any issues I should be looking out for?
I noticed this thread, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928566, but it says this is the generic NON US CELLULAR version. Is there anything out there for the US Cellular version of this GS2? I can't seem to find anything really.

This is from the S2 wiki page -
U.S. Cellular - Model SCH-R760
U.S. Cellular's variant (Model SCH-R760) is equivalent to the Sprint variant, except for one specification; the U.S. Cellular variant does not include a 2500*MHz WiMax radio.
This tells me that the US Cellular version will NOT directly correlate to the D710. The i9100 seems to be the most compatible, but I can not confirm that, only what I've deduced from reading. You'll have to read the wiki and make your own decision. Good luck! And let us know how it goes

Dang. Since its not my own phone I am not going to do anything unless I can find something more concrete. Thanks for the reply.

Have you tried the us cellular forums? Its not on xda. Its a seperate site. Google it. I know some people over there have made roms and ported roms from xda. Goodluck.

U.S. Cellular Samsung Galaxy S2

I was just wondering if I am able to root and install a custom rom from this forum. I was told on the SGS2 forum that this forum would be best. Is it true?
Thanks in advance

Short answer - probably not easily if at all.
Even if there are not any technical differences between the devices - which I do not know enough on the US Cellular GS2 to say - it is often difficult to do what you want. I saw this with my previous device, the LG Optimus S (Globally Optimus One).
Now in some cases I have seen devs be able to take a build for one phone and easily port it over to a similar phone (ex. Optimus S/V/C) versus having to start from scratch. It will depend on how much HW/SW differences exist between the two devices.
Hope that helps!

DO NOT FLASH OUR RADIOS. DO NOT FLASH ROM/KERNEL unless you know it is safe.
Epic Touch 4G contains 4G. US Cellular Galaxy S2 doesn't. This is NOT a case of same phone, different branding on the same CDMA type network (Samsung Vitality/Samsung Admire)
However, if you are not rooted, people seems to have figured out how to root it using Epic 4G Touch methods: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1526093

hey man here is a stable mod and a few guides to fix a few things.
Get your rom from here
facebook fix here
Yes we can flash their ROMs, hell we have even flashed their modems before! However do a LOT of research before you do so, and don't be afraid to ask for help from another US Cellular user on here. Also to get a few things like MMS, and the carrier branding to be correct the ROMs require a few basic edits.
There is plenty of support for this device

If you are a cyanogenmod user than here are cm9 nightlies for your phone:
http://goo.im/devs/Shabbypenguin/R760-Nightlies
They are exactly the same as the sprint version just with wimax stuff removed and a few us cellular settings.

Has anyone attempted to install one of the att roms on our phones

I know that we can't use the international version roms on our phones but I saw that on the att side they already have two roms. I'm curious if they would work on ours. Since I'm still very much a noob I don't have the knowledge to get my phone working if it didn't work, but maybe one of the more experienced ones here might be able to. So anyone tried yet?

Everything is working fine!
Obviously WiFi calling is not going to work since its not supported on att just want to make sure there's no radio problem. The att roms don't update the radio?

roms dont flash radios, only the stock images do
I asked this question in the international community a few weeks ago and now it looks like it's been answered. Thanks to cashyftw flashing a rom.

AT&T ROM's work on our device that's great.
They are the same phone so everything should be fine UNLESS a radio is involved.
This is good news --- that means rom development should be STELLAR. Has anyone tried on a SPRINT S3 yet?

Files will need to be changed between Sprint and Verizon versions to account for different radio technologies.
Kernels should work across all of them though. It should be a situation similar to the Nexus.

As per this sticky http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736474 I'd say no.
The euro s3 also has a quad core, while we have a dual core so I doubt there are enough similarities to cross roms.
I'm currently on a captivate patiently waiting to upgrade to an s3, so I've been doing some reading.

I take no credit, just relaying info

International N7105 firmware confirmed working on i317!!!

For any of you who want to have your cake and eat it too, you can now flash the international N7105 firmware onto your AT&T branded i317!
What does this mean? It means that you can give AT&T the middle finger by having unlocked firmware with none of the restrictions and bloatware. By extension, this also means that you can benefit from the development going on for the international devices.
Finally, this also means that you can reap all those benefits without sacrificing LTE access in North America!
Now that this has been confirmed to work with the i317, I wonder if the T889 is next...

We tried flashing the international N7105 firmware onto the i317 using Odin, but that didn't work. However, the procedure seems to be working if, instead of using Odin, you flash a re-packaged stock N7105 firmware using a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP, just like flashing any other custom ROM. Once that's done, just flash the AT&T modem/kernel, and you're all set!
Unfortunately, there hasn't been much development for the N7105 yet. Root, CWM, deodexing and all the other basics are there, but that's all for the moment. Devs are still trying to work out N7100/N7105 inter-compatibility. N7100 firmware will flash to an N7105, but the modem won't work, so that's pretty useless, and that's what we're all trying to fix.
At least, in the mean time, you can enjoy a stock N7105 experience in North America without AT&T/Rogers sticking their fingers in the pie
Is the 7100 the non LTE version and 7105 LTE? If this allows us to get FM Radio on our North American Note 2s, I'm going to be very happy!

Very nice.
Upon thinking about it. I believe there is a way to use this method to give us international firmware and also retain our NA CSC's so we keep carrier specific settings such as Wi-Fi access, Fast dormancy and the like too.
Currently working on it and will get back to people once I am finished.
Glad to see someone else was working on this as it was something I wanted to get around to messing with but have been busy poking into Bootloaders and dialer codes.

Agreed however, no one knows for sure it isn't present in our devices and that Samsung just removed the driver at the request of the greedy NA companies. They don't want us listening to something for free when they can force us to connect and use data. Maybe the driver is in the 7105 firmware...
My phone is rooted, what is so good/different about the international version?

Did what Miscom had done and got the latest GT-I7105 Unbranded firmware release LJ5, with this one I injected the Canadian CSC's and everything seems to be working except a few carrier apps that check for the proper model number they would force close on me.
Going over this firmware, seems okay but doesn't seem to be any better then the stock LJ2 that came with the phone.
My main hope with using an international firmware would be unlocked dialer codes, and I was correct in my testing, any carrier locked dialer codes are controller within the firmware + check what CSC you have as well.
Got some working that I couldn't before hand, however the main one that I wanted to use was the *#7465625# to view network lock status, it was one that I couldn't get working, but I believe that it wasn't working because my phone is already a factory unlocked one so to really know for sure I'd half to have one that is known to be locked.
Anyways, glad this experiment worked, I will definitely be looking at this again in the future, however I know that the Samsung Canada is planning on releasing an updated firmware for the phone at the same time or soon after the Canadian S3's get their Jelly Bean updated, and it is also rumored that they will be 4.1.2 as well. So with this possibility I will be going back to Bell's Stock firmware and see what we get in a few weeks.
ROM is up

Change I747 radio for wind compatibility

Im looking to convert a rogers i747 over to the wind network. Can anybody direct me to the files needed to do this. I know the process.. I just need the files.
Thanks
Ive tried searching, but im coming up short. Thanks
Chris
If you already know what files you need, it'll help save everyone else time if you mention what they are.
If you are looking for the modems, I highly doubt it'll work.
I've yet to see any modem function correctly on a different model gs3. This is why we always say its ok to flash the roms, but that's about it. I can't remember for sure about rom compatibility for your model though so don't go flashing our roms unless you are sure.

I don't think I was clear. Umm.. I know the process on how to upgrade various things. But I don't know the files needed. I read that you can change the apns and i read its software that governs the radios. So im thinking its perhaps doable? Am I wrong? I mean you say it probably won't work, but if its software. What's stopping it?

Software, as in firmware does run the radios, but its most likely not going to be compatible. We can't even use our T999 radios on the T999V or vice versa.
Another thing I can't remember now is if yours is cdma or gsm. I'm pretty sure Wind operates on gsm tech so if yours is cdma you may only get 2g data, if any. These are questions you should be able to google or a wind user here may know, (apn's too) I can help to look some of it up for you but it'll be later tonite before I can put any time in.
Hope that's enough to help get you started on some of the info gathering though. (There are a couple of Wind and Canadian dedicated threads around here somewhere btw) you may find some good info there too.

I just saw that the 747 is gsm, so it should work on winds network. It may not get 4g, just depends on which frequency the phone and wind operate on.
