I have a new HTC Droid Incredible 2 that came with Android 2.3.4 and h-boot 0.98. I followed the instructions here (http //forum.xda-developers. com/showthread.php?t=1298990 <- sorry, can't post links yet!) to downgrade the phone to Android 2.3.3 and h-boot 0.97.
After rebooting the phone, an error message (that I failed to write down) said something to the effect of not being able to get a signal and so was switching to GSM. This was alarming, but after shutting the phone off and pulling the GSM SIM card and rebooting, the phone still worked, but with a weak signal.
I used Revolutionary 0.4pre4 to S-OFF and install ClockworkMod, then installed the stable build of Cyanogenmod 7.1. Everything appears to be working fine except for the cell signal. I have a Moto Droid and it pulls in 3-4 bars from the same location that the Dinc2 pulls in 1-2.
Info at bootloader:
* HBoot-6.13.1002
* Radio-1.09.01.0622
This is a brand new phone and the connections to the antenna in the battery cover are pristine. My assumption is the problem is in software, but I don't know how to fix it. Has anyone else had a similar problem and fixed it? Any ideas what I can do to get better signal strength? Is there a better radio that can be flashed, and if so, will that wipe the whole phone (again)? I really would like to keep CM7, but this could be a showstopper if I can't get it fixed.
Thanks in advance!
You can try upgrading to the latest radio to see if that helps.

Would the latest radio be 1.09.01.0722, by any chance? I'm looking at the list here: http //forum.xda-developers. com/showthread.php?t=1134451
The latest is the .1111

Google has not yielded a download link for the radio yet. Rootzwiki is not loading atm and that's the only site I've found that might have it. Any chance anyone has a link to the .1111 radio for the Incredible 2? Thanks!
Edit: finally found it.

May sound dumb but is your battery door on? The door holds the antenna.....
Yes, the battery cover is on and the phone is brand new, so i don't think there are any issues with the connection to the antenna. Based on the dBm level with the 711 antenna, I think things are working more or less as advertised, but the signal strength indicator is different than the one with the stock rom and so shows a lower number of bars.
Yea that's because with a recent ota we went from a 4 bar indicator to a 5 bar signal indicator which may be why you think you don't have a good signal.

Hes running CM7 which i dont think was affected by the update. just the new stock Sense rom.
OP, i had a problem with my gps antenna on my brand new phone and couldnt figure it out. try pulling up the pins on the phone that connect to the cover, gently of course. that fixed my problem.

So are you saying that cm7 doesn't include updated radios with its roms?

It shouldn't.. the Rom doesnt change your radio. No matter what Rom i flash; cm7, cm9, miui, sense.. I stay with .1111 you can flash radios seperate if you want to. The signal bars was just an update to the stock Rom. With the ota came both the rom and radio update

I'm not sure if this is the right board to post this in, but here goes. I have a Samsung Galaxy Nexus on Verizon. I was running AOKP Milestone 5 and Franco Kernel Build 185 and things were great. Then yesterday I randomly didn't get any signal when I got back to my house. Before I always got enough signal to make calls and text. I thought that was weird, so I did a complete wipe and upgraded to AOKP Build 38 and Franco Kernel 185 again. I still had no signal. Thinking I messed something up in the process, I reverted back to a month old Nandroid when I had no problems, still nothing, after this I went back to AOKP Build 38 and Franco Kernel 185 again. I tried reflashing the 4.0.4 radio's before and that didn't work either. It has to be my phone because my parents and sibiling both still get signal fine with their non-smart phones. I'm willing to unroot my phone if it means getting service again. I've never really encountered this problem and would love it if anyone could point me in the right direction to fixing this problem. I took two screenshots of my phone status for you to look at

I've been researching and haven't found any solution to my problem. I would appreciate any help or direction given. Thank you.
Check Logcat and check dmesg from inside the phone. This will help show as to why to begin to narrow down.

Thank you for your response, to be honest I didn't know what you meant by Logcat and Dmesg, so now I'm researching it and figuring it out. I will return with these pieces of information when I'm done. Thank you again for the response.

If it's the phone and won't get a signal after what you've tried.. I would say either a bad sim (not sure how the sim could just go bad) or.. hell, radio failure? Sounds strange. Usually when people lose signal rebooting or airplane mode works..

Yeah, I'm not really sure what to do at this point. I do get signal outside my house and sometimes full 4G, but overall I get worse reception everywhere.

Well, I use to get a couple bars around my house. Now I get none. I am looking at bars. Now I have an X and am unable to send/receive texts and calls. I am thinking about unrooting my phone, going back to stock and locking my phone to see if it's a hardware thing.
Pretty sure it's a Gnex thing. I just bought mine and out of the box 4g only connect for 2 minutes then just goes out for a long time

Yeah, I just unrooted my phone, put stock back on and everything. Not working, thinks it's a hardware problem.
It's hardware. I went through 7 replacements from Verizon before I got one with a good screen and working radios.

Does anyone know exactly why it's a hardware problem? Because it does connect for me but only for a minute or so
So I just switched from an iPhone 5 to a Note 2 and I love it. But for some reason when I go to look at my battery stats it's showing I don't have a connection for most of the time, even though I have a connection, can see the full status bar up top and can use my phone perfectly fine. Has anyone seen anything like this? I got a new SIM card from AT&T before I switched phones so it should be working fine. Also with all things considered, is this solid battery life? Thanks in advance for any help!

Is this your first android phone? If it is then I understand why you don't think you have a data connection. When you're on wifi, unlike the iPhone, the android phone will not show the data icon unless it is using the data network to set your location or something like that. It will only show you your wifi signal strength icon. If you disable wifi you'll notice that the data icon, 3g,4g,4g LTE, will show up indicating you are connected.
As far as battery life, it seems that you use the internet quite a lot considering Google Chrome is using a large portion of your battery. If that is true, then over 11 hours is pretty darn good I would say. The screen is always going to use most of your battery throughout the day, so it's best to lower the brightness when you don't need it to be bright and shut it off all together when you're not using it. This will save a large portion of your battery.
Anyway, hope this helps a little.

Thanks for the response. I had the EVO and EVO 3D so I am familiar with the fact that it shows the Wi-Fi connection up top. I was more concerned with the picture where it shows how long it's been awake, screen on time, Wi-Fi on, and mobile data. Under the mobile data it usually shows green for strong strength, yellow for weaker, etc. Under mine it shows very large gaps of black, which I can only assume means no connection? It doesn't seem to correspond with when I have Wi-Fi on, as there are some parts where Wi-Fi is off and the mobile data shows black. I hope this explains the problem a little further. Thanks again for any help you can give!

Ok, I understand what you're saying now. Black seems to indicate that the radio is turned off. Other than airplane mode or turning the radio off all together, you shouldn't be getting black bars. I think they should be red if you have no signal, so yeah, that's weird. Is you're phone rooted? If so, what rom are you on?
No, the phone is not rooted.

Well, there goes that idea. That seems to be the latest version so honestly, that's as far as I can really help you. I was hoping you were on an older version of the modem and an update might fix the problem. All can say is, if there are any updates available, run them, if not, wait for someone with a little more experience to help.
Sorry,

Not sure if it is really anything to be concerned about. I have a significant gap in what it is shown as network signal strength as shown in first photo. Does not show any in the GSAM battery report in the second for the same period of time.

i ask a question in here needing to get some help, and no one bothers to reply; in a troubleshooting forum. what's wrong with this picture?
so, in the case that someone happens by, here again is my question:
just wanted to ask those in the know, my friend has an htc evo, which has probably the worst reception ever, can i change her modem without rooting the phone? or is there anything else i can do to fix her horrible reception? thanks in advance.
From my knowledge of the evo which I did have. That would be part of the radios. The only time I ever changed that was after I had been rooted. But rooting the evo at the time it was new. was a program called revolutionary if I can remember correctly. Run the program plug the phone in when it says press a button and the program did all the work. If they're in an img. File you may be able to push The radios using and but i could dearest to that. If nothing else I hope I have you done idea of what your lookingare placed behind a partition in the system.

Well, that's likely not going to work is she's on one of the latest updates, as Revolutionary was patch around the end of 2012.
You cannot change the modem/radio without rooting the phone and getting it S-OFF. There is a tutorial by Captain Throwback to get the phone S-OFF, so that you could change the radios, but it is quite complicated. She might be better off just taking it in to Sprint and seeing what happens.

Oh, and I see you posted the same subject in two different threads here.
Next time, you need to be more patient when waiting for answers, instead of posting this twice and criticizing the people around here for not caring. It's not that nobody cares, it's just that most of us have moved on to other phones and only have time to check back here when we get the chance.
Also this isn't a troubleshooting forum it's a development forum we are not your personal help desk.

I would guess the HD calling is the culprit...depending on where you are at, if your LTE signal isn't consistently strong and your phone is switching between 4G/3G etc the call drops from what I've read. I am in NJ, so most of the state is bathed in 4G....but I definitely drive through some areas that still drop to 3G....I'll test it out over the next few days.

I know this is an old post but I have been having this issue lately and I can't figure it out. I have flashed many ROM's and still the same issue. I popped my sim into my old M8 and the drop call issue is gone. The call always drops at the beginning of the call it is extremely aggravating. I was just wondering if you have figured out this issue? I am afraid s-off may have caused it. I have disabled advanced calling and get the same issue. It is looking like I might have to send it back for warranty but not sure the best way to return to stock since we have no RUU. If anyone can help me with this please do. Thanks

Volte stopped working and nothing I or Verizon did fixed it.
On my 3rd replacement
On verizon, never had issues with dropped calls before in my house/surrounding area (from incredible, rezound, Galaxy s4, wife's iphone) for the past 8 years and now service with my m9 is horrendous. Im on my 3rd replacement from verizon with the same issue. I get dropped calls/missed calls/texts unable to send non stop in my home area and when Im in anything less than perfect signal wise. Sometimes it will take 5-10 mins from when i get in my car to switch from 1x to 4g while my wife's phone and previous phones never were in 1x. Anything I can possibly do or am I stuck with this issue? Not rooted unfortunately. My next step with htc was a replacement through them. Any suggestions?

This phone like many new phones has a single radio. If you start a call on 4g and fall off 4g the call goes. That is not a fault of the phone but moreso the way the death of cdma is playing out.
You may want to find a 4g network extender or get vzw to give you one.
