I have 2 Wind Mobile GS3's and when I put any custom rom on my fiancees S3 when I am on the phone with her in between the conversation all of a sudden I will hear a loud noise that I can only describe as a transformer transforming in the speaker..It seems to be fine when it is running the stock Touchwiz with Root injected into it but as soon as I rom it the sound comes back. I was just wondering if anyone else has had this issue and was able to find a fix for it. Thanks for the help
What rom, kernel, and mods do you have on it?

Stockorama V2 with T-Mobile (Canada): Stock Kernel and no mods. I was using this as well and I never get the issues that my girlfriend is having. I am currently running Hyperdrive RLS14 with its stock T-Mobile Kernal and no mods and have no issues what so ever.
That's strange. Have you searched the rom thread to see if anyone else reported the same thing?
If they haven't, and you want to still use it, I'd backup and then wipe all data, including internal sd. Then flash the rom from a new download. Then test before adding anything back on.

I looked for anyone reporting issues like mine and I didnt find any. I wiped the phone entirely and was unable to get it to work without the voice being all messed up. I think I may have to just keep regular Stock Root on the device for now but the thing that confuses me is the fact that my device is fine and hers isnt..
It could be a minor defect in a certain part, or just due to "no two chips are truely equal".
It is quite odf. Hopefully someone else may have an idea, but you may want to look into warranty options.
Actually, you could try flashing a custom kernel such as ktoonsez. See if that helps.

I tried the ktoonsez kernal and it still did it..I also put it to just pure touchwiz with root and it was worse then before..I am looking into warrenty options now because this is beyond weird now. Thank you for all the help with this!!
That may be your best option, especially if its doing it all stock now too.
If you wanted to try one more thing, you could see if flashing an audio mod would help. (beats ir something like that)
Can't remember what's available for our phone, but check the sticky in Themes and Apps section and you should find a link in there.

I have a Samsung Galaxy SIII from AT&T (d2att ), and I have it rooted, running task650's AOKP, and TWRP 2.4.1.0 for recovery. It works fantastic, and I love it I have, however, been trying everything I can think of to try and get ktoonsez's kernel to work on it, for the features that his kernel offers. I am having a funky issue, which according to task, kt, and a few others on the boards, is device-related. It seems that my phone, individually, is the problem. This leads me to my question.
How feasible is it to get AT&T (or Samsung?) to replace my phone, based on the fact that there is something different hardware-wise between mine and the vast majority of other peoples?
It seems that nearly everyone who runs this combination of task and ktoonsez has nothing but good things to say, and I have yet to see anyone gripe about the same issues that I have had, and not be able to fix them, usually by a simple full wipe. I have tried to do full wipes with and without letting Google initialize/restore my account. I have tried going back to stock everything, and trying again. I have made sure to turn off Performance Control, so there should be no conflict there. I have tried setting up my phone in its entirety, restoring information, restoring apps with TiBu, and then installing the kernel. I have tried with and without deleting mpdecision. I am following all of the directions posted per OP for both threads, and with the gapps posted by task himself. Nothing works, and I end up in a glitchy boot loop almost immediately after flashing the kernel, even if my phone was running buttery stable before the flash.
I have come up with a couple things to try tonight, but if they don't work, I would like to pursue getting a new phone to replace this one. Is that an option?
You will need to do a warranty replacement through Samsung unless you have device insurance through att. But then you will be paying the deductable on it.
There are quite a few reports of people in ktoonsez's thread that stated they had to return their device and get a new one for his kernel to work. Not sure you searched good enough. But either way, you are not the first to have a device that cant run his kernel. I can assure you of that.

Thank you. I may not have read it well enough Do you mean the deductible through Samsung or AT&T? And ho do I approach the warranty? I know, at least where I work, we wouldn't honor a warranty on something that was used for purposes outside of it's intended use (i.e. rooting). Granted, I don't work for a phone company

It would be the deductible through AT&T if you have device insurance. If going through Samsung, something would have to be a manufacturers defect in order for them to warrant a replacement device. I don't think either company will replace the device because you can't use a custom kernel. So you would need to get creative on your story before you go either route.

Settling In
I don't know if this could be a factor but, you will experience something commonly called a settling in period after installing a new kernel.
I have been through trying a couple other custom kernels for I747 plus all the progression of KT747 releases for TW ICS and TW JB since 9-23 release and have been through two phones due to warranty replacement. On both phones I have experienced significant settling in glitches for a while after flashing KT's or other kernels. These include crashing on boot, frequent screen freezes after boot, KTweaker settings not sticking, etc. These issues are far more extreme on first install of kernel than when flashing a new release to phone that already has kernel installed. First boot after first install can take about twenty problematic boot attempts to start behaving and it can take two or three days before kernel "settles in" and problems pretty much disappear.
In my feeble little mind, I envision the new kernel having to grow neurons into the guts of the phone hardware.
If you want to run this kernel and your phone will basically boot but, is all glitchy, I would say don't freak out. Have some patience, just keep rebooting, and give it time to settle in. For most the phone will straighten out in a few days.
Hope this helps.

Just depends on how thorough the at&t rep is. You have to Odin back to stock, triangle away, unroot and factory reset for them not to know at all.

Do not intentionally brick your device. That could be just as bad as leaving your phone rooted when you take it in (depending if Samsung can see any part of the storage). As far as warranty exchange "excuse" that is on you to decide. Follow the post quoted below to help your chance at warranty exchange. This has been discussed quite a bit all over the place.

You know, I've run tasks rom since it was still 4.1 and have always used the kernel provided in his rom. It runs great, and I wouldn't change it. My battery life and everything else is great. I can get 17 hrs with 3 hrs 34 mins screen time and have 20% battery left. I think trying to get a replacement device just to run a different kernel is absurd... just my .02 cents worth

I completely agree. I'm on tasks currently using his underwear kernel provided. I've also tried KT's kernel as well. Yes you can get more customization with KT's and his custom governor, but is it worth it to go through all the hassle to get a new device? I would say no. Like I said I've tried both kernels, I'm currently using tasks underwear kernel, I may try KT's again, may not. When I did before, I didn't notice a drastic difference between the two, esp not enough to warrant going through a device replacement.
Consider this. You are running tasks rom with absolutely no issues with the kernel he provides. Is that not good enough? I know it is for me. His rom is absolutely the most stable rom I've ever tried on any device. Remember it's just a phone. Just some food for thought.
Sent from my SGH-I747 using xda app-developers app
Probably right, but i don't always run task's ROM, either. My favorite ROM so far has actually been ParanoidKANGDroid, but I wanted 4.2.1, so I went to task. I'm actually running PACman right now, and for the time being, even his PC is broken

When the s3$ first come out, a lot of people were bricking them. Trying to root or installing an international ROM. I'm pretty sure Samsung staff was aware of that but they still gave free replacement. Some people even got a replacement from att or others carriers for free.

I figured I would start this thread so that we can move all the non-development talk out of the development section. I hope people will use it so that when something that pertains to development is talked about it will be easier to find. We can discuss what kernels gives best battery life, which ones work and which one break things. We can post about our favorite apps, widgets, wallpapers, or how the weather is outside. Maybe someone will get help on an issue they are having. We can discuss anything within the guidelines of XDA, lets just try to help keep Jovy's thread clean.
I'll start, has anyone had an issue when coming out of sleep the screen is dim and you have to go into brightness and tap it to make it work? I think maybe I set my clock frequency to low or maybe I should be using a different governor. Another issue that bugs me is when I have ripple effect set and use a black background for my lockscreen the borders of the screen look slightly grey. I have read posts about this and by turning off ripple effect the color is like it should be. I like the ripple effect and I like black backgrounds, does anyone know about a fix for this, or does anyone notice this issue on their phone.
Here's the link to the Darthstalker ROM if you read this post and want to check out the actual ROM: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442
I am not the developer of this ROM, all credit for this great ROM goes to jovy23 and those he's listed in his OP.

Same here! I find 99.9% of ROM-related issues for us flashaholics stem from not performing a full wipe prior to a flash. I've been fully stable on every DaRTHSTALKER update, with LOTS of varying kernel testing, by using this method. Full data + cache + Dalvik wipe then flash than another cache/dalvik wipe before the boot is always a good strategy!

I've been a fan of this ROM since the very day the version 9 was uploaded. I got my SGS3 late December (this is my first android device), tried a few ROMs and stopped on this one. (BTW: a suggestion to put a link to the DARTHSTALKER S3 ROM thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014442 on OP so everyone new to this knows what it is all about).
This being my first post on the entire forum I was not allowed to ask questions on the original ROM's threads (and there are at least two I am following).
Now, if you don't mind a newbie question, here it is:
I am a T-mo subscriber using an unlocked AT&T phone. Currently I am on DARTHSTALKER v9 port for AT&T (here's the thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2087164 ). As the most of you I am eagerly awaiting version X1 of the DaRTHSTALKER, but my question is: can I just flash the T-mobile version or should I wait for when an AT&T PORT is available?
Thnks.

I had something happen last night that I've never had happen before and maybe sometime can tell me what it was. I was restoring back after messing with a few mods that didn't work and when my phone booted up in the lower left corner it said "Safe Mode". I went back into recovery and wiped cache and dalvik cache, fixed permissions, and then rebooted and safe mode was gone. What is safe mode?
Thanks,
Todd
Edit: Should have used Google first. Safe mode is similar to computer safe mode. It only loads base os to allow for removal of files. Still don't understand why it happened, but atleast I know it wasn't something bad.

I WOULD NOT DO THAT! Although I cannot answer the question directly, every carrier has modified there own Galaxy S3. They are all completely different. I know that if you flash a Universal galaxy S3 rom onto a T-Mobile device, it will completely hard brick it due to a change in the partition structure. If you have an At&t device, I would still stick to the Galaxy s3 at&t roms even though T-mobile is your carrier.

+1. Unlocking your phone only allows it access to a different carriers sim card. It does not change the base of the phone itself. I have a Tmobile SG3 that's unlocked for my travels but any ROM I flash must be a tmo based ROM. In your case stick with the ATT ROMs so you don't end up with a brick, and enjoy this great rom

So I've been searching everywhere but I can't seem to find anything about it for LGOG, how do you flash a custom kernel? I found some methods for other phones but I'm afraid to try them because I don't know of its the same method required for the LGOG. I'm an android newbie so I apologize if this is something that's easy to do
I'm running JellyBeer and my current kernel says 3.4 HP Pavilion Notebook

only kernel to my knowledge you can flash if yourrunning an aosp rom ( which jellybeer is) would be smoocha kernel thread for it in android development kinda buried a bit but its there got the link for you
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2246163
if running stock can run evloutions kernel is super sweet
heres evloutions link

Now how would I go about doing that? I'm pretty sure I found that thread earlier but it didn't have instructions. Would I just put it into the root storage and flash it like I would for a ROM or gapps package?

Thank you, now its time to flash this *****! Hopefully it'll give me a bit of a performance/battery life increase. I also read something in another thread mentioning the connections optimizer I believe? I couldn't find it again, but it said deleting/uninstalling/freezing that and another similar app would improve download speed and battery life but it wasn't very detailed nor could I find them when I searched through everything in my file explorer. I also didn't want to delete anything that sounded that important without knowing for sure because I surely can't afford to brick my phone

It's not going to be on jelly beer or any aosp ROM.. it is a built in the settings stock app and If your inclined to freeze it (which im not saying do, never did it myself or read anyone doing it but could use titanium as long as your rooted) but if your on any of our custom ROMs the Dev of it will help you it with most issues, our devs here are in a class of their own..... simply superb

I think this is included in the stock rom and I think most custom roms get rid of it. If this is incorrect please someone correct me

Hello, I have the T-Mobile (SGH-T889) Note 2, and I flashed version 3.99 of ParanoidAndroid ROM from Galaxy Note 2 root.com, a few weeks back. While I love the features, I am having a few issues with it.
1. It’ll randomly reboot the phone.
2. A lot of times, the System UI will force close, along with a few other apps.
3. Someone else mentioned the slow typing, I am also experiencing this problem. It just cannot simply keep up.
4. The sound is VERY LOW. On any and everything, and at the maximum volume setting despite it being low, there is a lot of distortion in the speaker.
5. It’ll tell me that y SD card is damaged one day, but then it’s not the next and I still have all my files.
Other than these 5 issues, I love this ROM. I don’t know if I flashed it the wrong way but, it’s getting aggravating and making me wish that I never left the TouchWIZ ROM I previously had.
Also, I just noticed that in the section About Phone, it says GT-N7105. I don't know how that may have happened, or if that may be the issue.
Hopefully someone can assist me in getting this issue resolved. Thanks in advance.
Switch to neak kernel to fix the sound and see if the others go away at the same time. most those should be fixed with a different kernel

It's under original Android development section.

Thanks again... I assume that I'd need to download "v1.6x CM10.1 & Derivates Zip" for my device correct?
Sorry if I'm asking a lot, I'm new to the whole Kernel flashing world, and I don't want to mess up my phone.
