Most Stable Custom ROM?

Hi,
I have finally purchased a micro SD card and I am considering switching to one of the many optional custom ROMs available for our phone. There are a lot of great Dev's that have put in long hours to bring us these choices and I first off want to thank them for their hard work.
From my understanding a custom ROM can greatly improve battery life, speed and performance over what a stock ROM can give you. I also understand a lot of the Bloat ware has been removed as well and there are more customizable options in these ROMs.
However, the most important feature to me is stability since the phone I use is my daily driver. I will admit that the one thing I am impressed with the stock ROM is the stability. Everything on the phone works and works well.
Having said this, out of all the currently available custom ROMs, which is the most stable that can be used as my daily driver? I know this is a hobby and most ROMs are for testing, but which out of the bunch are the most stable and have everything working smoothly without tweaking or without needing additional updates?
I am new to this so I am ready to try something new and improved. However, I wouldn't be the type of person who would want to flash a new ROM, try it out and then flash something else. Kinda just want to update and stick with it.

I'm using Darkside Digital Warfare 2.5.1
I work always on call and my phone is very important. That one has the most balance in terms of battery life and performance.

I would suggest digital warfare v2.5.1. Close to stock, very stable, great battery life. Juggernaut is definitely more experimental (although still stable) but the undervolt doesn't play well sith some phones. Paradox and Blu-Ray are both heavily themed but otherwise stable. If you're looking for a stock ROM with better battery, go for digital warfare.
Any ics ROM at this point is definitely too experimental for your tastes, stay away if you want one flash and be done with it.

Thanks for the response. Yourself and linye have both suggested Digital Warfare. I have researched the ROM and it seems pretty stable. The only issue right now is how to download the ROM? I see the developer thederekjay has closed the thread and it doesn't look like the ROM is available on XDA anymore. Any ideas where else I could find this ROM? Thank you again.

Thank you very much. Since this will be my first time doing this I just wanted to confirm. When I download the DARKSIDE.DIGITAL.WARFARE_v2_TDJ.zip file, before placing it on my SD card and flashing I should rename the file as per below example:
DARKSIDE.DIGITAL.WARFARE_v2_TDJ-wipe-twmod.zip
This in essence will:
-wipe = A full wipe that is much more through and is HIGHLY suggested over any wipe options in recovery menu. It will also format partitions to EXT4 (NOTE: THIS WILL DELETE ALL USER DATA! DOESN'T TOUCH SD CARD/EMMC!)
-twmod = Installs a 5x4x5 modified TW Launcher. (See screen shot below)
It will also install the ROM as well?
Or is there something else I would need to do? Thanks again for all your help.

You got it. Just backup what you need to backup and flash that zip in cwm and you're good to go!

Darkside digital warfare works best for me. I underclock to 1.03 and get about a day or more with med use.

Kernal ??

Is it necessary to flash a Kernal after flashing a custom rom ?
I am thinking of flashing CM 9 or Liquid Rom. Which is the best kernal to flash with them.

-The correct spelling is kernel.
-It is not necessary to flash a new kernel with a rom. In general roms will package the stock kernel unless they note otherwise.
-I am personally a fan of leankernel because of the mission statement behind its development and the accessibility and speed of its update cycle.

Nope. Custom roms have kernels included, so you are not required to download a separate kernel. However, some kernels run better (ie, more fluid, less heat, reboots, etc) than others on the same device. It all depends on the silicon in your phone. If you plan to run cm9, I recommend sticking with the default kernel. If you're going with Liquid, use imoseyon's leankernel (the default) or franco kernels.
Edit: BTW, I highly recommend franco's kernel app, especially if you are new to the scene. It can download & install either franco or imoseyon kernels, making kernel flashing stupid easy. It also lets you overclock & undervolt, change governors and tweak color settings. And it is the easiest way to keep up with nightly/experimental builds. Not to mention it shows your support and encourages more development.

...... One last question Which Franco Kernel to flash there are Milestone 2, Milestone 1, Nightly ??? Whats the difference between them ?

Latest milestone is the most stable. Nightlies are experimental. And no need to wipe.

Liquid + franco is a great choice. Liquid is an extremely polished rom. Very, very smooth with absolutely ZERO lag (it is called Liquid Smooth for a reason) and lots of customization & tweaking options. franco kernel pushes the smoothness to another level. Liquid & franco are both awesome devs who have been tinkering with android for a long time, and they both know their stuff.
Liquid comes with imoseyon's leankernel, which is a solid kernel (obviously, or Liquid wouldn't have included it in the rom). imoseyon is another well-known & respected dev that churns kernels at a dizzying rate. He must develop in his sleep. A lot of people prefer his leankernel, and you really can't go wrong with it. But like I said before, it really depends on your device. Your phone picks the kernel, not you. Milestones are the most stable versions. Nightlies are bleeding edge experimentals with the latest patches & tweaks that may or may not improve battery or performance. Since you are new to flashing, you might want to go with milestone 2 for a few days and see how it feels. On the other hand, you could jump in balls deep and go with the latest nightly/experimental
And you don't need to wipe anything before flashing the extras package.

If you have fastboot set up, grab official images from google and flash them.

those images are for Yakju ..... mine is Yakjujp ... I think i cant flash them .. any other solution ??

doesn't matter,
infact if you flash yakju then you will get OTA as well. if you are in japan you can flash a japan radio on top of the rom.

I have been researching the many different kernels out there all day. I have been running GummyNex ROM's since I rooted my GNex. I really do like the options he has. I forget which version, but the battery life was amazing (which included the baked in kernel). I flashed to .0.9 and recently 4.0.4 1.0.1 and the battery life is like a V-12 Lamborghini. I just flashed a Franco Kernal and am hoping this fixes my battery drain issues.

Use liquid rom with Franco milestone built ... gave me a 4+ hour screen time. Don't know why but the nightly version reduces battery life

I'm running Liquid 1.3 and am using Franco nightly #143 and, so far, my battery life is really great. I was at 89% after 2 hours. I also want to try Milestone 3, that just came out yesterday and see how it performs.

Currently whats a CLEAN simple rooted flashable rom?

Seems all of Darkside's roms are "discontinued" and are no longer available. Whats everyone using nowadays? I just need something clean and extremely stable. the stock Tmobile rom is giving problems (for a friend's phone). Recommendations would be nice.

Jedi mind trick or Jedi knight gives a clean, stock feel, with a small twist, it has some S3 theming

I've used for some time. Its quite stable. You can, but ptmr3, and myself, recommend TWRP. No more scripts!

Honestly, Team Kang's Bullet ROM has the outright quality & stability vote, in my experience.
TWRP 2.2.2.0 recovery (flash this in CWM, then reboot recovery from the 'advanced' menu) has been my recovery of choice, stable++. I highly recommend it.

Check out the new BEAST rom from Rushing.. its super stable and amazing battery life.. i got 23 hours the other day with light-heavy use
its pretty much stock, rooted, ODEXED, but still very smooth

Best Rom setup, ANYTHING you want to post about roms

This is the best setup I found to date. I have not yet explored other roms with the extra setup but here it goes

I have flashed both of these on top of the rom and it is super smooth and awesome battery life! They would not flash through TWRP i had to use rom manager to put CWM back on and then it worked like a charm!!

Dude nice find on the two tweaks! They work extremely well on stock rooted ROM. For me ICS KT747 kernel induces a LOT of stutter and this fixes it completely.

Best kernel+ROM combo for my AT&T Galaxy S3

Recently i got the AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 I747 STOCK JELLY BEAN ON 4.1.1 from GALASXY S2 SKYROCKET (at&t) also but i need the best combo (kernel+ROM) but its hard to find one
here is what am looking for:-
- good, stable DATA/MOBILE NETWORK CONNECTION (MUST HAVE) IMPORTANT
- bloatware free
- fast/overclocking
- easy/not too complex that will fup my phone
- anything that i have not mentioned is relevant too
- other great features like Bravia engine, goo manager, extra features that make it more awsome
- cyanogenmod stable qualities (bug free) sleek, smooth, fast UI and transitions
any kind of idea is valid, open to every suggestion

If you are looking for a touchwiz ROM, go try S3Rx. If you are looking for a pure android based ROM, go for Task's AOKP. I think those are some of if not the best Roms of their kind.

That's for you to experiment and decide not everyone has the same experience on a rom.
Just make a backup of your current setup and start flashing away.

Trial and error.
I may be new here but I know enough, To tell you no one is going to answer your question. A Rom that works for one person is not necessarily the same Rom that will work for another. Flashing Rom's is about hopefully stability, if your lucky speed and battery life, but most importantly about customization. I just started flashing Roms and am still looking for the one I want. I'm sure as soon as I find it a new release will come out and I will get to start over again. As for Kernels I am not comfortable enough to delve into that yet...Good luck...

Best S3, non touchwiz ROM I have found is SlimBean. Not as flashy as some but rock solid/stable with the best battery life I have found so far. Like CM, it is backed by team of devs versus some roms that just have chefs that mix/match/blend features together.

i have been on that PATH as in trying different ROMS but once i tried several i completely fup my DATA/mobile network, i would text and call but my internet (not to be confused with WIFI) stopped working and yu know as a tech savvy guy yu gotta try everything little trick yu know to fix it but there was nothing
forced to use wifi until the day i bought the AT&T S3 and i have my data internet connection working again
i need a ROM that doesnt leave me with no DATA CONNECTION
restoring from nandroid backups helps and sometimes it might not work , other than CM which other ROMS THAT CAN KEEP UP WITH MY DATA CONNECTION

Thanks I think I found what I was lookin for and am currently running Synergy Rom 4.1.2 with Ziggy Kernel using ATT Galaxy S3 it's stable, fast great battery life so am keeping it .........

Glad to here it. I have not been brave enough to get into kernel flashing yet. Can you tell me was it a simple flash? How do you revert back to a stock kernel? I here there is a lot of tweaking to do with some kernels? Was Ziggy's pre-set?

You just flash it the same way you do with a ROM. Remember you wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing the kernel and if you dirty flash roms, you have to reflash the kernel each time because the stock kernel overwrites it. You revert back to stock kernel by flashing the ROM again or finding the kernel zip and flashing it separately. You can undervolt and overclock with a different kernel that allows it.
