Seems all of Darkside's roms are "discontinued" and are no longer available. Whats everyone using nowadays? I just need something clean and extremely stable. the stock Tmobile rom is giving problems (for a friend's phone). Recommendations would be nice.
Jedi mind trick or Jedi knight gives a clean, stock feel, with a small twist, it has some S3 theming

I've used for some time. Its quite stable. You can, but ptmr3, and myself, recommend TWRP. No more scripts!

Honestly, Team Kang's Bullet ROM has the outright quality & stability vote, in my experience.
TWRP 2.2.2.0 recovery (flash this in CWM, then reboot recovery from the 'advanced' menu) has been my recovery of choice, stable++. I highly recommend it.

Check out the new BEAST rom from Rushing.. its super stable and amazing battery life.. i got 23 hours the other day with light-heavy use
its pretty much stock, rooted, ODEXED, but still very smooth

OK.. So every phone i have ever owned i have rooted, Kernels, anything and everything.
But here is my problem.. I have recently updated (manually) to the new ICS on my epic 4g touch.
I have tried all the roms pre this release and never had 100% luck with any so normally always ran stock os plus root.
I want to know if A) there are new roms post this recent update, B) if i root to another pre-existing rom is it going to mess it all up again.
Basically i want like CM10 out or something. Something made specifically for how the phone is now...
Any suggestions?? Im tired of stock. I want to customize!!! :crying:
Depends how custom you want to go. If you want to flash custom theme and modz, you must go with a deodexd ROM.
But if you want AOSP-ish look, agat has a very good stable and themed FF18 ROM he calls tFF18. It has a simple look, much different than stock tho, but it's built with a custom kernel and based off Samsung, not CM9 or 10
not sure if that helps.

The upcoming aosp builds should see a large improvement if it's of any interest to you

It does help!. So if i get this right... ANY deodexed rom or another option is tFF18. And these are both based off our current rooms so that EVERYTHING WORKS

Are there any other name brand roms out there i can look into?
Anything t look into specific??? As far as AOSP roms go, ive tried them in the past, but are you saying their newer version ones are friendly to the latest update?

Yes everything works. tFF18 is odex, so you can't change much of the ROM but it works incredibly smooth and stable. Also, practically all DEODEX'd ROMs have the hacked sprint hot spot for tethering. Stock and odex roms require the Wifi Tether app which is easily found by googling "wifi tether apk"

Aosp is nice and light weight, makes it super snappy, but you lose a couple convenient features from samsungs touch wiz UI.. My main gripe with going aosp/aokp is that my camera doesn't perform as well, where IMO Samsung did a nice job with the software.

Hey all,
Finally about to make the jump from GB (on Calk's 3.0) to ICS. I need a Rom that is stable (daily driver status) and wanted to see what thoughts you all had. I've been reading all the threads for weeks and think Phantom's Blazer might be the way to go. I'm also considering just using odin to install the stock (and rooted) stock FF18 as my signal is horrible and not sure why (tried many modems). Anyway all thoughts welcome... CM9, AKOP, re-Calked....
May have to try them all!
Thanks!

CM9 all the way. Getting great battery life, its typical for me to go 12 hours right now with moderate use (texting, phone calls, web browsing and flipboard) and still be at 50% battery. This rom is so customizable with the notification shade and tethering it should just come with it CM9 out of the box. I was a little worried with the stability of this rom but I haven't had any issues at all. 4G, Camera and GPS is great too. Its snappy quick responsive. Going from stock to CM9 will feel like its a new phone and until we get LTE for Sprint in Minneapolis I'm sticking with this great phone
blazer 1.5 has been remarkable in smoothness and speed and I installed agat. 4.2 and ff18 modem
If you want to stay on caukulins roms there is a recalked 1.7 out for ICS.

I'm on CM9. It's relatively stable as a daily driver and my battery life's been getting much better. It was horrible for about a week after flashing. CM9 and AOKP are pretty interchangeable, but I think I like AOKP more. Keep in mind, they're still alpha, so bugs will happen, but I don't know why alpha 6 wasn't just made beta1 as planned. From my understanding, the ICS FF18 official source needs to be un-f*cked before CM9 goes official, so I'm holding my breath. Meanwhile, I'm interested in CM10. JB is supposed to be better than ICS in many ways. Going from GB to ICS, you are probably going to be let down unless you choose a rom wisely.
If you love Calk, like everyone does, it really might be worth trying the RE-CALKED 0.1.7. I'm debating flashing it now, but I want to know more people's opinions about it first.
So, rest of this forum, how does RE-CALKED 0.1.7 compare to CM9?
Hey everyone, thanks so much for the replies. This is REALLY helpful. I'm really excited to get started on flashing! I think I'll give CM9 a shot first but may try a few others.

Thanks, glad you mentioned this. I was actually wondering, given all the issues with ICS and bricking. In the "how not to brick your phone" thread it states not to restore GB while it ICS. Does this refer to nandroid backup/restore? If so, then I would suppose that you need to first oden back to EL26 or ED 29 then restore, correct?

I was on gb a couple days ago and restored my ics back up.. All I did was flash a Calkuins wipe all script (if you don't have it I can link you one) restored my ics back up & then flashed agats source kernel to get it to boot.( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1767421)
You're good as long as you use a wipe all script and agats source kernel (they say you can wipe data in agats new source kernel but I haven't yet.. I just always use the wipe all script just by habit Plus it saves me time to have to manually wipe everything)

hi,
i know asking what rom is better is not a good questions as it is different for different people. However, I just want to know what is the most stable, so once I flash it i dont need to keep re flashing.
I am ussualy a fan of CM and when they get stable releases I flash them and then dont need to think about it anymore. on my previous samsung galaxy S I used the CM9 RC for a long time until the stable CM9 came out and then used that.
currently there is not stable CM10 and when it comes out I will probaby use it perminently.
What JB rom can i install that will be stable to use for the next months until CM10 stable comes out?
im using stock JB right now.

Rasbeanjelly. Its the cleanest rom ever. Fast, amazing battery life and the latest aosp source. Also the nee binaries from jro03R. You should try it. It has the power widget, lockscreen targets and some more mods. If you dont like all the blue of the icons, simply flash modstorms white mod. Flash the rom + trinity/franco. The outcome is awesome performance, no slowdowns, everything just works. No reboots and sh!t. I highly recommend it.

You've already got the most stable Jelly Bean software then
stock, are you jellin, cm10.
after those you get into roms with more features and and there tends to be little bugs that sometimes go along with them.
Nothing against the others Ive had good experiences on alot of roms but as for the MOST stable these in my opinion would be them.
Stock ROM.
Beamed from my Grouper.
ok looking into BAMF and rasbeanjelly.
another question that could help me dicide between the two. do either have the possibility to upgrade the rom on the device without a computer. so when i install it i can always have the latest version without having to keep resetting to factory settigns and wiping all the data and cache

are you sure? becuase when i was running CM9 RC2 on my old captivate, then the CM9 stable came out. I kept checking for updates in the settings and it kept saying my software was upto date. I had to download the new file and flash it again in clockwork mod.
Recently i got the AT&T SAMSUNG GALAXY S3 I747 STOCK JELLY BEAN ON 4.1.1 from GALASXY S2 SKYROCKET (at&t) also but i need the best combo (kernel+ROM) but its hard to find one
here is what am looking for:-
- good, stable DATA/MOBILE NETWORK CONNECTION (MUST HAVE) IMPORTANT
- bloatware free
- fast/overclocking
- easy/not too complex that will fup my phone
- anything that i have not mentioned is relevant too
- other great features like Bravia engine, goo manager, extra features that make it more awsome
- cyanogenmod stable qualities (bug free) sleek, smooth, fast UI and transitions
any kind of idea is valid, open to every suggestion
If you are looking for a touchwiz ROM, go try S3Rx. If you are looking for a pure android based ROM, go for Task's AOKP. I think those are some of if not the best Roms of their kind.

That's for you to experiment and decide not everyone has the same experience on a rom.
Just make a backup of your current setup and start flashing away.
Trial and error.
I may be new here but I know enough, To tell you no one is going to answer your question. A Rom that works for one person is not necessarily the same Rom that will work for another. Flashing Rom's is about hopefully stability, if your lucky speed and battery life, but most importantly about customization. I just started flashing Roms and am still looking for the one I want. I'm sure as soon as I find it a new release will come out and I will get to start over again. As for Kernels I am not comfortable enough to delve into that yet...Good luck...

Best S3, non touchwiz ROM I have found is SlimBean. Not as flashy as some but rock solid/stable with the best battery life I have found so far. Like CM, it is backed by team of devs versus some roms that just have chefs that mix/match/blend features together.
i have been on that PATH as in trying different ROMS but once i tried several i completely fup my DATA/mobile network, i would text and call but my internet (not to be confused with WIFI) stopped working and yu know as a tech savvy guy yu gotta try everything little trick yu know to fix it but there was nothing
forced to use wifi until the day i bought the AT&T S3 and i have my data internet connection working again
i need a ROM that doesnt leave me with no DATA CONNECTION
restoring from nandroid backups helps and sometimes it might not work , other than CM which other ROMS THAT CAN KEEP UP WITH MY DATA CONNECTION

Glad to here it. I have not been brave enough to get into kernel flashing yet. Can you tell me was it a simple flash? How do you revert back to a stock kernel? I here there is a lot of tweaking to do with some kernels? Was Ziggy's pre-set?

You just flash it the same way you do with a ROM. Remember you wipe cache and dalvik cache before flashing the kernel and if you dirty flash roms, you have to reflash the kernel each time because the stock kernel overwrites it. You revert back to stock kernel by flashing the ROM again or finding the kernel zip and flashing it separately. You can undervolt and overclock with a different kernel that allows it.

So I'm now eligible to upgrade my Epic 4G Touch, but I'm waiting to see what other phones come out this year. So I'd like to extend the usable life of my current device as much as possible.
I'm currently running Kobridge's Stock GB27 with some battery saving tweaks. But it still seems sluggish, memory seems to fill up quickly even without background apps running. At this point I think I'm looking for a ROM that will provide me with the best performance possible. I don't know if that'll be a TouchWiz mod similar to Kobridge, or something like AOKP or CM.
I'd just start trying out different roms; I switch between Dirty Unicorn - 158.8MB (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271247), Project X ~500MB (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320041), The Blu Kuban (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257321), and Liquid Smooth (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2298221) at the moment, but I've downloaded and run/tested numerous of the roms available for the E4GT. With most queries of this type one's experience may vary widely (YMMV), so I can't say for sure that you will get a response that any one rom is "best" in terms of fastest or ligtest. Good luck flashing!

Light and fast... with the right tweaks anything can be good. I'm running Pac man with comadose tweaks and its smooth as ####. If you want something stock like check out supernexus ktempleton had a good one no frills just 4.2.2 or billgerryan had an extendrom version of super nexus with some great tweaks already built in.

Yeah, jwhyte is totally on point. I'm using Dirty Unicorns and it is a must for customization. Flash chris41g's repacked EL26 kernel located here for flashing (it has a custom recovery) and install a tweak package such as Direct Injection or Comadose (its crossbreeder script is outdated so you can update crossbreeder separately). Look them up on the forums
