I'm a nerd. I already have my notification sound being "incoming transmition" as said by the compiter from star trek tng and my ring tone being the opening credits. I want to edit system sounds to improve on this nerdyness. I remember changing the pen sound once but for the life of me I can't remember where. Any help would be appreciated.

A light saber igniting would be cool when taking the pen out.
Sent from my SPH-L900 using xda premium
The light saber sound on spen already exists. It comes with jedi rom. (don't know if u guys have it here) but here you go. Just rename the original file and replace with these, set permissions and reboot.
Edit: system/media/audio/ui
most roms have unique notification/boot/call sounds.
Annnnd its really easy to change them up b yourself by simply renaming it the same way.

I tried replacing the standard key press sound by replacing the KeypressStandard.ogg but it didn't work...after replacing it I still heard the same sound as before. Is there something I'm missing? Is this not the correct file?

Yep, I replaced the four Keypress files in system/media/audio/ui and then I doubled checked the spelling of each and played each from within the ui folder to be certain that the volume and quality were suitable. Everything looks and sounds nice in there. I'm scratching my head on this for awhile now.

I did reboot. I'm wondering if the ROM I'm running is taking precedence over the files I'm replacing. As in if I reboot then the ROM loads the original sound again. It doesn't seem like it should be like that but I wonder if unzipping the ROM and replacing the files inside there might work... thoughts?
btw thanks for all the responses

This will only work with rooted devices. This will change the touch sound and the lock and unlock sounds. use any file explorer with root acces and overwrite the files in this directory.

I have successfully changed my system click sound, so i am guessing you changed the wrong file, which was what i did initially. The file you need to change is /system/media/audio/ui/TW_touch.ogg . You probably changed the default Effect_Tick file, but TouchWiz uses it's own file name. You of course need root to do that and reboot after changing.
Check this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1799141

Heres the Droplet sound from the S3 it works on Tw base roms and Asop base roms and u need some kind of root explorer
Instrustions:

-copy to System/media/audio/ui
-(TWBase)Paste it and replace the old TW_Click with the new
-(AospBase)Rename It To Effect_Tick.ogg Paste it in the same location
-last set the permissions just like the other sounds then reboot!

How to install
First and foremost. Check to see if these tones are titled the same as yours. They may vary. If not, just rename them to match yours.
1. Download tone
2. I recommend renaming the original tone with a .bak ending, just Incase you want to use it again.
3. Copy and paiste the new one in the system/media/audio/ui folder.
4. Fix permissions like usual
5. Reboot
------------------------------------------------
Ringtones
These have to go into the system/media/audio/ringtone folder. Fix permission
Or
Create a ringtone folder on your SD card. You wont loose them this way. No need to fix permission
Feel free to share your tones here

Even though there is a tutorial that has been posted on this before, it is somewhat old and buried.
THIS DOES WORK ON ALL BUILDS OF TW BASED JELLYBEAN
You will need to do a few things before we start.
1. Go HERE and download the latest version of LMT Launcher. It would do you justice to also read that thread to understand the installation and setup process for the Pie Controls. Do all of that and then move on to step 2.
2. Grab this file and place it on either your external or internal SD card.
3. On your device, use any root filemanager of your choice (i.e. ES File Explorer, Root File Explorer, etc.) Find the Generic.kl file I included and copy it. Navigate to system/usr/keylayout and change the file called "Generic.kl" to "Generic.kl.bak" (DO NOT DELETE IT) then paste the Generic.kl file that you copied.
4. Go back to home and then go to Settings/Display/Touch Key Light Duration and select Always off.
5.Reboot your device and enjoy.

Awesome DEF3NDER. Just got a PM from Mattix724 this morning with this as well. I'll give it a go and let you know how it works out.
Edit-works great. And I took a screenshot with the power and vol down button as well. Question. When I'm on xda app, a menu button appears. Is there anyway to have that on all the time? Basically a virtual set of the cap keys, up, all the time? Thanks for this, very cool and SO easy.
