Google Android Development Progress? - HTC One V

Just curious why no one at google has ever made the decision to make widget and shortcut placement more dynamic. Meaning, you cant place even a tiny widget right where you want it,it will snap to whatever grid is closest to it instead of where you actually want it. And same goes for shortcuts. And back on widgets... well they look weird in some instances when resizing, etc. They are not dynamic. They reorient oddly when switching from portrait to landscape. With all of the android releases you would think they would spend at least a little time on this.

Its the launcher. Not Android.
Try next launcher, you van place it where ever you want it too

I agree, go launcher is awesome very customizable. and if you want widgets get color widgets in the market for facebook, contacts etc.
Im using the ADW with the ICS icons.
This is a massive bit of personal opinion war waiting to happen. Personally, I've used lpp for awhile now and have tried the others but never been really satisfied.

I really like Launcher Pro's option to hide apps from the drawer but like options from other launchers. Is there any other launcher that can hide apps?

GO launcher is the first I've tried, but I really like it. It's very customizable.
I still have to try out the others... But I've decided that landscape and slick animated transitions are must-have features for me after using GO launcher.
Sent from my Galaxy S II using Tapatalk.
I was a long time user of Launcher Pro but recently switched to go launcher. It really can do everything LPP can do and more. Widgets are.... different.... I don't think one has a widget advantage on the other but I'm sure many will disagree with me. Go launcher has plently of easy to assemble custom themes where launcher pro you really have to change things manually. Go launcher lets you do that also. I felt Launcher pro ran smoother on my evo4g but on my gsII go launcher runs awesome
sorry Zeam launcher is the best in my opinion, very sleek and it has just enough options to make it great.

SPB Shell 3d

Im looking for the SPB Shell 3d app, but im trying to get it for free. I tried a bunch of .apk files on 4Shared and all of them say "you have to purchase the app" is there a free working version of this app?
Thanks in advance.

You will find a lot of apk's saying its a cracked version, but they won't work for it. I bought it, but rarely ever use it. If it had more options to play with, then I probably would.
The concept of it is great BUT the UI design is just plain ugly. I would like to theme it myself though.
SPB Shell is cool in concept & design but for me at least, cumbersome in usability & lacking all around in user friendliness.
I use daily, but definitely lacking in options. Biggest so far is no option to increase number of rows and columns, and zero options for app drawer.

ssLauncher is definitely the most unique of the bunch. There is still one bug the developer is working on fixing and that is clock widgets are not updating. Besides that everything else had been pretty solid with it.

There in effect that flips the pages like a magazine...The main thing with ssLauncher is that it gives you the ability to pretty much put anything, anywhere on the screen. If you want something more organized with a lot of screen transition animations, the other launchers would work better for you.

Launcher question.

I just have a silly question. Many of the roms have different launchers in place of rosie, or using the aroma installer they give you an option. Usually Nova or Apex, and many people still talk about launcher pro. I use Go Launcher and have for a while now. I have tried those others and several of them only offer some options in a paid version, while Go has it all for free. My question is why does everyone seem to neglect Go Launcher when building roms? No biggie, I'm just curious.

I guess I have never really noticed. It seems pretty fast to me. I set the scroll speed higher and it seems to fling right along. And features like hiding app labels, and missed call and sms notification (with a separate add on app) as well as others are all free. Just a preference thing, so its cool. I'm not down on the others or anything.

Agreed, the launcher itself is alright, but it is really bloated and needs lots of other apps to work well. It isn't that noticeably slow, but bad enough that I prefer Apex because of it.
Sent from my Incredible 2 using Tapatalk 2
The biggest problem with Go Launcher is that it has so much involved that it makes the phone slower thus making it feel "heavy". When developers create a ROM with a launcher the launcher needs to be light to begin with. It may still have great options that are important to most without extra frilly stuff as go offers.

Not sure what you are referring to with that comment, I don't get any of that. I don't see Go as complicated. Some of the things actually seem easier to me. I like the sms and missed call notifications, even though you do have to install the add on. But other launchers only include this on paid versions. Honestly I'm fine with that. I don't mind someone making money. Would just like to see it as an option for the default launcher in some of the roms using aroma now. But I may be the only one and by no means expect any of our devs to do that for just me.

Yeah, I've found that Go________ has way too much ____________. It feels heavy to me. I want a launcher to be simple, and it seems that all Go stuff is anything but that. Having said, Go to it with your Go. If you like Go, then Go for it!

Until UKB and Viper I was using CM10 and Apex Launcher was my go-to. It's got the persistent search bar as an option and also used my scrollable calendar widget with it.
EDIT: It's also free with the option to buy, which gives you more customization.

+1 on apex. I have a calendar widget that scrolls and it offers the persistent search.
I'm using the photo contacts widget and it won't work w apex. If you look on the market it says adw, go, etc ... any launcher that supports scrollable widgets. So should I assume the widget is at fault? Is there an option to enable it in apex that I'm missing?

Not a big fan of the pop up menu in the new ADW. Would like to see it as optional. Also the transitions are a bit choppy even with some speed tweaks. Those were the only things I have noticed off the bat. I plan on playing with it more but will probably revert to Nova pending future ADW EX updates.

Holy s**t, I gave up on ADW ages ago and jumped to Apex... I'm going to have to give it another shot and see how it compares. Thanks for the heads-up.
It's been a long time I haven't used ADW...
It looks good, I've been playing with screens and settings for 20mn... it feels like home, but better.
The best feature Apex desn't have is changing icons size... Just for that, I could forget Apex and stick to ADW (why creating 128x128 icons when Apex resize them to some tiny half sized icons ?!!)
I've encountered some few bugs (I guess) with theming dock.. nothing important though, as I usually get rid of it and go for full screen
Adding widgets pop up is amazing.. think tablet mode.. 2 panels with previews.. that's trully sexy.. <3
