Title says it all. I'm running the latest cm10 with the trebuchet stock launcher. Wanting a launcher that supports scrollable widgets while also having the persistent Google search bar ... any ideas which one will do this? Any free? Or will I have to buy my first app?

I use Nova. It has what you're looking for and its free unless you want the pro features, I also used apex for a long time, they are both really good. I feel nova is a little smoother

Thanks! Last question on this... Can launchers kill battery faster than stock launchers?
Sent from my Incredible 2 using xda app-developers app

Oh boy. Tried nova. Didn't work for a scrollable widget I have. Holo did. But no persistent search. Holo HD had the search but no option to enable scrolling widgets. :banghead:

My apologies I've never used scrolling widgets so I didn't know it did not work. As far as battery I have never noticed any extra drain by using different launchers.

Until UKB and Viper I was using CM10 and Apex Launcher was my go-to. It's got the persistent search bar as an option and also used my scrollable calendar widget with it.
EDIT: It's also free with the option to buy, which gives you more customization.

+1 on apex. I have a calendar widget that scrolls and it offers the persistent search.

I'm using the photo contacts widget and it won't work w apex. If you look on the market it says adw, go, etc ... any launcher that supports scrollable widgets. So should I assume the widget is at fault? Is there an option to enable it in apex that I'm missing?
Any of you guys have suggestions on a good contacts widget? I like the photo contacts one and have used it since day 1 but maybe its time to move on....

I haven't used it, so it's hard to say, but they don't specifically mention nova or apex. Wish I could be more helpful.

I've used nova, apex, and go, and I always seem to go back to trebuchet, I hardly ever use Widgets so its the cleanest launcher for me

Sure.
Not a big fan of the pop up menu in the new ADW. Would like to see it as optional. Also the transitions are a bit choppy even with some speed tweaks. Those were the only things I have noticed off the bat. I plan on playing with it more but will probably revert to Nova pending future ADW EX updates.

GO launcher is the first I've tried, but I really like it. It's very customizable.
I still have to try out the others... But I've decided that landscape and slick animated transitions are must-have features for me after using GO launcher.

I was a long time user of Launcher Pro but recently switched to go launcher. It really can do everything LPP can do and more. Widgets are.... different.... I don't think one has a widget advantage on the other but I'm sure many will disagree with me. Go launcher has plently of easy to assemble custom themes where launcher pro you really have to change things manually. Go launcher lets you do that also. I felt Launcher pro ran smoother on my evo4g but on my gsII go launcher runs awesome
sorry Zeam launcher is the best in my opinion, very sleek and it has just enough options to make it great.

What is lost using Apex or Nova

What widgets, functionalities, and/or apps is lost from touchwiz by using nova or apex launcher?
I use nova, haven't noticed any features missing.

Well technically touchwhiz is still running even when you install a third party launcher so you shouldn't be missing any built in functions like smart stay, direct call, etc. I haven't noticed any functionality loss due to installing Nova at all.
Thanks for the input. What about widgets. Coming from Sense, a lot of widgets were lost when I used a third party launcher.
I use apex.... And yes you loose the touchwiz widgets. There were only a few from what I remember as I hated touchwiz after 3 days, it wastes so much screen relistate. So you loose the touchwiz calendar, email, clock, and photo widgets..... I'm just going off memory though there might be more.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
The only thing I miss is being able to organize my app drawer into folders. I have yet to find anything with
APEX that allows me to do that. But there may be something out there to accommodate folders, but I'm not aware of it. If anyone does know or if it's built in, please let me know!

you don't lose the clock widget...
On Jelly Bean, what you lose is the ability to just toss items off the homescreen. You physically have to drag items to the "x" to remove them. You also lose the auto organizer feature when you drag widgets around.

While you can't do that in Apex Launcher (as of the time I am writing this), you can always go to Settings->Wallpaper (It will be under the device category) to change the lockscreen/homescreen/homescreen&lockscreen wallpapers.
Using Apex or Nova also does not allow the badge functionality you have on touch wiz. You know, the little red icons when you have a missed call or email message. It's a bummer as I do like this function; however, Nova is super awesome due to its gesture function.

Nova Prime ($4 in play store) has "Drawer Groups". I have all my apps categorized into communication, games, multimedia, shopping, and system tools. Those folders show up at the top of the drawer, and all the un-categorized apps show up below it.
I think it's still not as good as the ADW Launcher that was built into CM7 that I was using on my DroidX. With that I could make shortcuts on my home screen to an individual category, so the kids could easily get to games and only games.

I'm trying to get the new Motorola photon q launcher to work on the epic touch running jelly bean. Everything seems to work just needs to be resized. Also the circle widget is really nice and would be great if someone can get it to work with other launchers. Took a look at the widget on the photon device and i must say it is pretty cool looking. You would have to attract the attention of whoever took time to port the clock and weather widget from the HTC devices.

what about Chameloen?
Personally I don't like Chameleon, you can't add app short cuts on the home screen, widgets are limited and you can't create folders. Granted you can create your own widgets using HTML 5, however this doesn't solve the problem to people who don't know HTML 5. Neither can you use normal widgets as you would on a normal launcher. I suspect there will be more widgets in the future, but for 10usd it isn't worth it.
So Launcher 8 when it come.

Best performing launchers?

I recently switched to Nova launcher and it seems like its overall smoother than Apex launcher which is what I've been using previously. What launchers have given you the best performance on ICS.

Best performance is stock launcher for me.
I have purchased and tried out both Nova and Apex Pro launchers. After using them both for a while I settled on Apex launcher. I am on a rooted stock jellybean firmware, Poland rollout. Both launchers are very similar in terms of overall design and behaviour but i chose Apex for the following reasons;
1.Fewer ui and app drawer redraws this is possibly because of the keep in memory feature which is not there in Nova. This might consume more memory but for me the resulting smoothness is worth it.
2. Unread email count, to put this into perspective understand I have three Gmail accounts set up on my phone. In Apex I get the total unread count across all 3 accounts whilst Nova gives me total unread for only the main account associated with my device.
The one thing i missed in Apex from Nova was the import homescreen feature as i had to set up my widgets all over again in Apex. That said i am sticking to Apex for now.
GoLaucher Ex is now unistalled from my S3 until further notice but it seems to still work reasonably well on my S2
