Possibly bricked Kindle Fire....help needed, and appreciated!

A few of you know me already from my thread where I asked a million questions before attempting to install a custom ROM on my new KF. Well, it still went completely south somehow, so here I am.
So, I'm stuck with the stock Kindle Fire logo on the screen, and and can't get it to go anywhere.
Here's what I did:
Downloaded KFU, installed the drivers, plugged in the Kindle,and ran KFU. ADB status online, boot status 4000.....so everything seemed good, from what I've learned. Also looked in Device manager, and it showed up as Android phone, or whatever it's supposed to say. I figure I'm good to go.
My plan is to install TWRP,FFF, and root it, then boot into TWRP, and flash the ROM. The first thing I did(and it seems wrong now) was try to install FFF, instead of TWRP. I think that's the wrong order, but not totally sure if it matters, but it's my assumption that it does.
So, as soon as I sent the command, for some reason, my computer got this blue screen with some message that I didn't have time to read, because it restarted right after. It still said everything looked good, so I tried again to install FFF. I think the "crash" was just coincidental, because it didn't act like that the second time, but whatever.
Anyway.......said it was installing FFF, and then it went to <waiting for device>
I figured ...ok...need to wait.
After about 10 minutes of waiting, I held the power button down until it turned off, then turned it back on, because someone said that's what you should do if this happens. Well, essentially.....since then, I've not seen anything but the Kindle Fire logo on the screen, and it feels like I've tried everything. A forum member spent some time on the phone with me, and we tried everything he knew.....no luck.
At one point, someone told me to uninstall the drivers and reinstall them, which I did, but upon reinstalling them, nothing changed, and the computer no longer even recognizes it being plugged in as a USB device, the drivers don't show now in device manager, even though I told KFU to reinstall them. To me that's weird, and seems like a major problem, because the computer isn't "seeing" the device, but that's mu humble opinion. I'm at a total loss, and would sure appreciate some help bringing this thing back.

Make sure you reboot your computer. Also if you can, switch USB ports. Pay attention to your device manager when doing so. Trying on a different computer can also be helpful.
If nothing you do results in any change, it's time to give up on Windows and create a Linux LiveUSB. Linux is extremely stable and pretty easy to set up and send adb/fastboot commands with. If you do decide to take that route, Ubuntu is pretty much the standard and version10.4 generally works better than later versions.

I rebooted, switched ports, and it didn't seem to change. The computer didn't even recognize it being plugged in. I just plugged in a flash drive, just for fun, and got the message that USB device was detected, so it's not the computer....to me anyway. Also tried plugging the Kindle into my wife's older Dell, and it gave me a message that a USB device connected to the computer wasn't working properly.

Use the KFU on the laptop to install the drivers and see if that makes a difference.

The older Dell is a desktop, is that what you meant? Just try installing drivers via KFU from there?

Yeah, that's what I meant.

Why Windows fails to install/load the drivers for fastboot is really a mystery to me. It obviously has the adb part of it working or you wouldn't be in fastboot in the first place.
You need to provide details on exactly what's going on when Windows attempts to load drivers.
Turn up the sound volume on your computer. With the device connected to your PC, turn it (the Kindle Fire) off and back on. When the device puts itself into fastboot, Windows will provide a series of two tones.
low->high means it's connecting
high->low means it's disconnecting.
If you get the low->high tones without the high->low tones following them up, you should be seeing SOMETHING change in the device manager. Don't gloss over the details with "Android phone whatever" but report what you see. The device drivers post in the beginner's guide has details on what should appear in the device manager.

I just did exactly what you said......plugged it in, turned it off. Turned volume all the way up, turned it on....no sound of any kind.
The weird part is when I first installed the drivers, I checked it by plugging the device in, and had adb status online, staus 4000, plus I went to the device manager, and I remember two things that said android phone. One said android phone, and the other said android something or other. And, it was seeing the device and everything seemed hunky dory, and I guess at that time it was???
I did uninstall and reinstall the drivers via KFU, and it says it's installing them, but never again have I seen anything in device manger that says Android anything. That is just wrong to me.

Personally I think you're spinning your wheels with Windows and causing yourself more headache than needed.
Create a bootable Linux LiveUSB on a thumb drive with Ubuntu 10.4 and get Android-SDK installed on it.

I'm starting to think you've killed your bootloader or got a bad flash when your machine crashed. This is why I suggested you flash your recovery first, because you can still fix that through the bootloader if a recovery flash goes wrong.
In any case, I think soupmagnet is right... FireKit is probably the next thing you should try if Windows won't even recognize the device being there. If on top of that, I'm right about your bootloader, you're going to have to crack your case open and put it into USB boot mode because Firekit won't be able to fix that on its own.

Trust me.....I realized not too long after that I had done the wrong order. I even had a note to myself right here that said:
TWRP
FFF
Root
For the life of me, I don't know why I did FFF first.
All the questions I asked, and as anal retentive as I am, I totally screwed that part up, which may be the entire problem. Trust me.......I'm pissed.

You should at the very least, set up the Android-SDK on your LinuxUSB and check to see if it's just a driver issue you're dealing with. Linux handles the drivers for Android devices much better, and in most cases, easier than with Windows.

Can I ask what Firekit is?

Firekit is a tool used to fix major problems easily. I would use it as a last resort because there isn't a command for just installing TWRP without the bootloader.. Get your Android-SDK installed and I'll help you with the drivers and platform-tools install.

I'll just be honest and tell you that I have no idea what you're talking about. I don't mean that in a bad way.......I'm not some computer whiz that speaks the same language as a lot of you. Right now I wish I had left the freakin thing alone with Go Launcher Ex and called it a day. I'm really pissed off right now....that's not your fault.
I don't suppose that Factory Cable will do anything for this situation, correct? The guy said he will send it ASAP FWIW.

Take a breath...relax. We'll walk you through it.
Get a thumb drive w/approximately 1Gb of storage and create a bootable LiveUSB.

[Q] Broke Kindle Fire's Ability to Mount

Hey I'm a brand new member so I apologize in advance if my problem has been solved already, however, I could not find anything on any of the threads. Okay so I am severely confused right now. I have had my Kindle Fire for almost a year now and this problem has never occurred. Ever since I got my Kindle I have been experimenting on it. I rooted it and have flashed many different custom roms. I had been using TWRP Recovery 2.0 for a long time and when I found out that it was outdated I updated it to the new 2.2.1.1 version...Everything seemed to be working perfectly until I tried mounting USB storage in the new TWRP...It did not work. My computer wouldn't recognize it. I kind of just let this slide since I figured I wouldn't need to mount USB storage in TWRP unless it was an emergency. A while later I switched back to the Kindle's stock rom. That's when I noticed that it would not mount...Not only was TWRP not mounting, but it was my Kindle altogether. I deleted all drivers that had any thing to do with Android from my computer. After restarting both my computer and my Kindle I tried mounting again...Nothing. The drivers weren't even reinstalling. To test wether this was a problem with my computer or my Kindle I got my brother's Kindle Fire (Never had any tweaking done to it) and mounted USB storage. It installed the drivers and mounted just fine. I then plugged my Kindle back in and it mounted just fine also. I thought I had solved the issue, but about an hour later I tried mounting my Kindle again and nothing happened. My brother's Kindle will mount (Actually there are a total of four Kindles in my house all of which have not been tweaked except for mine) but mine won't do anything. As a last resort I deleted EVERYTHING with TWRP and flashed the Kindle Fire 6.3.1 update.zip. My Kindle is now true factory default (no root, custom recovery, etc...). I thougt for sure this would work but IT STILL WON'T MOUNT USB STORAGE!!! When I plug my Kindle in and go to "Devices and Printers" it recognizes my device as a "Kindle" but I just cannot get it to mount! I am now stuck with a Kindle that cannot be re-rooted or anything due to the fact that it cannot be recognized with ADB. Sorry for the long post...I am just trying to give as much information as possible. By the way I am running Windows 7 and my Kindle is the only one that will not mount which makes this problem have nothing to do with drivers or my computer. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Wheww okay well try a factory reset this will wipe your sdcard as well. It should resolve most your problems. There are multiple things that can cause this to happen but one thing that really comes to mind. Are you ejecting your kindle before hitting the disconnect button? Just a wild guess but failing to do so can cause this disorder the very next time you plug it in. Something that could resolve minor sdcard issues is

don't let this make you to crazy yet RC soupmagnet should be releasing something very soon that will solve the majority of SD card mount problems hint hint . You will need to reroot and flash a custom ROM on it to have success though. So if nothing works hang tight and stay tuned.

Also commands do not work because my computer doesn't recognize my Kindle as either a storage device or an ADB device, and what does it mean what it says "fastboot not found"? I made sure I have the fastboot.exe in my ADB folder...Soupmagnet, I can't get those commands to work since I'm no longer rooted and my computer doesn't recognize me...

Yeah I downloaded the newest Kindle Fire Utility and installed thoose drivers. When I plug my Kindle in and go to "Device Manager" it lists it as an android phone with ADB Interface. If I plug any other Kindle in then it installs new drivers and doesn't list the ADB Interface. Is this normal?

I don't use Windows so I couldn't tell what's normal for that OS.
Use the tutorial here to confirm your drivers are installed properly. Then Shift + right-click on your KFU "tools" folder with adb.exe and fastboot.exe, and select "Open command window here". Enter your adb or fastboot commands there and see how it goes. Start with "adb devices" to see if you are connected. If not, reinstall your drivers and try again.
Some ROMs have different product IDs than the stock OS so you may want to look into that if you are using a custom ROM, and edit your androidwinusb.inf accordingly. I know some JB roms have a PID of 0004 instead of 0006.
If for some reason Windows refuses to cooperate, you could always set up a Linux LiveUSB and get it done a lot easier.

Okay so I've been fiddling around with stuff. I completely uninstalled all Android drivers again then restarted my PC and Kindle. This time I plugged my Kindle in and it installed the correct drivers. It mounted USB just fine. When I tried reinstalling the ADB drivers that came with Kindle Fire Utility it erased the Kindle's normal drivers, so now it won't mount anymore...at least I know that it is a driver problem and that my Kindle doesn't need to be repartitioned. I'm really getting sick of Windows and its annoying drivers...Any ideas on how to get all the drivers to work? If not I think I might just install Ubuntu and screw the need for drivers.

If you run the driver bat packaged with kfu with the device plugged in sometimes it will waste the mass storage drivers. It`s always best to run it then plug the device in and see what windows decides to install. Unplug, replug, unplug, replug as well as try this while in recovery because it will also attempt to install the drivers as well in recovery.

I downloaded the lates kindle fire utility and I enabled debugging, I can see my files but when I run the utility file the adb says offline. I cannot figure it out. : (

[Q] Kindle fire not detected - "USB device not recognized"

I have a kindle fire which wasn't doesn't connect to the computer. I get an error message such as "USB device not recognized". I had rooted the kindle fire and I thought that this problem could have been because of the rom or some kind of kernal error so I installed the stock rom thinking that I will just re-root if however the connection problem still was still there. So now I have kindle fire which is not rooted so doesn't have google market and I want to root it however cannot find a way to get it connected. I have tried 3 different computers and many different cables however still no success. I have also tried reinstalling the drivers, turning off and on the kindle fire with the cable plugged in. Could the port on the kindle fire be broken even though it charges fine. Also, would a factory cable help because I don't want to order it if it doesn't work. What other options do I have? I live in UK and this kindle fire is the 1st gen which was only available in US so cannot send it to amazon for checking.

Do you have TWRP installed? If so, try connecting it to the computer using the USB mount via TWRP...
I have 3 Kindle Fire tablets that I installed a JB ROM on for some friends, and one will not connect to the computer (except via TWRP). I never did figure out why, but I could copy a ROM and Gapps to it while in TWRP. I set them all up the same, and that one still doesn't connect.

Sorry for the late reply but no i do not have twrp as went back to stock as I thought that root cause some problem. So now I'm stuck without root and therefore without play store and I cannot root

I tried following the guide however I cannot do the hardware ID bit because in device manager it doesn't show the hardware id. It just shows unknown device

Plug the device in and manually uninstall the unknown device that shows up in Device Manager. Then Find the directory where the 'android_winusb.inf' is stored (somewhere in your WINDOWS directory), delete it, and start over.

Tried but still not working
Could it be possible that the port on the kindle fire is broken as I have tried connecting in on many computers and in none it has worked. Also I dont know if this is relevant but when I connect the kindle fire to the computer, the device is connected screen doesn't come up, it just charges and thats it no other change

If this is the stock OS, then I would say that is definitely a problem. You may have some system files missing for detecting USB devices plugged in as UMS. Are you able to access any flash drives?

Yes, my computer detects my galaxy s2 and other flash drives perfectly. Is there any way of rooting the kindle fire without connecting it to the computer? Because all i want is to have the play store on my device

The new version of KFU seems to have a much more effective driver install. You should try looking into that.

I am having the same issue with my KF2. USB Comms disappeared in terms of the device being recognised by XP but strangely fastboot worked and I was able to load CM11 on the device after downloading it via wifi and installing TWRP via fastboot. Still no USB on CM11 but its briefly recognised for a split second when it first boots. Monting the volume via TWRP has not effect either.
Have tried a variety of cables and have tried connecting the Kindle to an XP netbook, downloading fresh drivers etc etc etc.
Any ideas out there?

Same problem.
Problem:
-stuck @ logo screen
-usb not recognize by computer (windows 7 OS)
I already tried using different sets of cable, reboot both kindle and pc, tried to insert on different usb ports, tried to install adb and adb drivers. still not recognize.

I recently purchased (2) refurb'd 1st-gen Fire's with the intent of loading CM10.1 on them. I don't know what version was on the first one, but the second has 6.3.1 on it.
I downloaded KFU 0.9.9, the CM zip, the gapps zip, and after some playing around, was able to make it all work on the first Kindle, via a Win7 laptop.
When I plugged the second Kindle in (same laptop, same USB cable,) it was not recognized. I then plugged the first, now-flashed one back in, and it wasn't recognized, either (within KFU.) I checked the device manager, and the Kindle had the yellow triangle of doom attached to it, but it at least showed up. I again plugged the second unit in, and not only is it not recognized by KFU, it's not being recognized as a connected device within the device manager at all. I can't view files on it, nothing.
I then tried installing KFU on a second laptop, and got the same scenario again. I tried downloading a different KFU utility, no luck in either case.

Sorry, forgot that in the OP.
I reinstalled the drivers using install_drivers.bat several times (each time it says successful.) I also uninstalled the "working" device (Kindle 1) from Device Manager and then installed the drivers afterward. No change.

I called Amazon support earlier this evening, and (but of course) the device is out of warranty. They recommended that I called the company that I purchased them from (Best Buy,) but the 15-day return window has passed so I'm assuming they'll tell me to pound sand.
On the call, I did ask whether or not there was a newer system version available (this is on 6.3.1_user_4107920) and was told that there is a newer version, and to let it sleep for 2 hours without interruption and it would find it. Several hours later, it's listing as no updates available. I thought that maybe if there were a system issue, an update would overwrite the problem and I'd actually be able to see the device in some way. So, with no cable and no auto-update, I manually installed the .bin (via Amazon's updates page, but I don't have enough posts for external links) and ran it successfully. The device was updated to 6.3.2_user_4110520, but is still not recognized in any way, beyond the fact that it charges, as indicated by the battery icon.
I'm going to stop by Best Buy tomorrow, but I don't imagine they're going to try and help me out.

The idea of the USB port being bad crossed my mind, but because it was charging I disregarded it. After running out of realistic ideas, I finally compared the two USB ports. The flashed, working unit has a pristine-looking port, while the problematic one looks mangled. I tried to ever so gently straighten and isolate the pins, but the connection may be severed at the base where I can't see it.
I'm fairly sure this is the problem. After doing this, and holding the cable just so, I was able to get the device manager to update, although not what I wanted. When it updated, and recognized the Kindle to some degree, it actually dropped connection to my mouse. When I let the cable go from where I was holding it, the device manager recognized my mouse again.
So, yea, I guess a trip to Best Buy is in order.

So... you think the USB port on the tablet is bad? Or you think the USB port on the PC is bad?
I'm having a very similar problem with trying to root a second KF. First one rooted just fine. Installled CM10, gapps, the works. Go to try and do the same thing, and it won't work.
I also tried it on another PC, and it didn't work on that one either. That other PC however is an old server PC that I forced Windows 7 on, and it has some major issues, so not really a reliable PC.
Now the PC I'm on is too old, I'm gonna need to take Windows 7 off of it. A recent update rendered my PS/2 ports obsolete, and I'm not PC-literate enough to know how to roll back a KB file. Linux it is.
...speaking of; have you tried connecting the KF/rooting it via Linux? I have a bookmark for that somewhere. Lemme see if I can find it... or link you to it:

The drivers that come with KFU always caused me problems to no end. I would suggest you uninstall them and install the Windows 8 drivers I supplied

Sometimes (don't know why), you need to mount your Kindle for it to be detected. If you've booted in recovery, mount the usb drive. If you're loaded inside the ROM, turn on debugging.

ok guys I have a unmodded 1st generation kindle fire here
it works fine except it does not recognize on my pc at all.
the usb charges the battery and all but I can not load files to or off my kindle via usb
it does not show up at all in my
windows 7 64 bit OS
any help would be great

The same thing happened with to me. I just switched the usb port on my pc that the cable was plugged into, and it worked.

but alas I have tried different cables, pc's ports it even cuts off when its on the charger
and according to amazon, on the charger it should power on and it won't
so thanks for the input
am stuck side loading for now, amazon has offered a trade in amount for it, but honestly
this close to Christmas, there is no money for it, hope they honor it after the new year

kindlefire not seen by computer FIX
I have 8 different Kindle Fire devices for my family. I tried to hook my daughter's best friend's Kindle to my computer so I could books on hers through Calibre. My computer couldn't see her Kindle. I tried different ports. Nothing. It could see all the other Kindle devices just fine (HD and non-HD alike) - just not hers (a second generation Kindle). I dug for hours trying to figure it out. At last I stumbled upon a post that helped. This is what I did and my computer sees it fine and Calibre is working beautifully with it.
Systems I used:
Windows 7 Home Premium SP 1
KindleFire Gen 2 System Version: 10.5.0_user_5060020
DISCLAIMER: Messing with device drivers is NOT for the unexperienced user, and can much mess up your computer beyond the point that the same user can repair it. I cannot take responsibility nor offer help if things go wrong beyond your capability to repair it.
Connect your kindle (as normal- you don't need to slide to unlock or anything... just connect it)
Open your Device Manager: Click Start -> (search) Device Manager
If your device was not recognized, a device with a yellow exclamation mark will be listed under Other devices. Mine was just listed as "mtp".
It stated that there were driver issues including an MTP issue.
To set your Kindle as a Kindle portable device, do this:
Right-click the device in the Device Manager and select Uninstall. This removes the current driver, and provided you disabled automatic driver installation, will leave it as a unrecognized device with the yellow exclamation mark icon under Other devices. You may have to unplug and replug the Kindle after you uninstall it in order to see it listed under the "Other devices".
Right-click the device again and select Update Driver Software ->Browse my computer for driver software -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
You should now have a large list of common hardware types. Here, scroll down and select portable devices -> Standard mtp device -> mtp USB device under the Disk drive.
You will be prompted to confirm this selection, click Yes. The Kindle will now be recognized as a portable device listed as "Kindle" by your computer.
Calibre sees it fine. It is now listed under my "My Computer" as a portable device sublisted as a Kindle.
Doing this did NOT change how my computer saw my KindleFire HD 8.9. It did not change anything EXCEPT the particular Kindle that would not be seen previously. I hope this helps some others who are lost figure out theirs as well.

How to fix MTP driver not loading

I couldn't get my MTP driver (in Win 8.1, but this applies to other Windows) to reliably work for my Kindle HD 8.9 until after many hours of smashing my head against the wall. I just wanted to document my findings because I couldn't find the correct answer anywhere on the entire 'net.
Symptom:
Plugged in Kindle HD 8.9 but it wouldn't show up in My Computer/Devices. Device manager showed yellow exclamation under "Other devices -> Kindle". Installed Amazon drivers and ADB worked but still no Kindle. I could fix the problem by manually installing the generic Windows MTP drivers , but the problem would eventually come back (usually after rebooting the Kindle).
Solution:
Open regedit.
Open "HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\usbflags".
Look for and delete any keys (folders) with the vendor id and device id of your device. Amazon is vendor id 1949, KFHD 8.9 is device id 0008. There will also be 4 more digits for the revision id. If there are multiple revision ids for your device, delete all of them. So in my case I deleted keys "194900080100" and "194900080216".
With the Kindle fully booted up, connect it to the usb and let the drivers install automatically.
Cause:
When the kindle is first booting up, it is not designated as an MTP device. So if you have it turned off and then plug it into the usb of a computer that has never seen it before, it will start booting up and Windows will recognize it as NOT supporting MTP AND Windows will CACHE this info in the registry. After the Kindle fully boots up, it only then starts to show it supports MTP. The problem is Windows doesn't care. It is cached as not supporting MTP so Windows will never try to install the standard MTP device drivers. If you delete the cached information from the registry and plug it in after fully booting up, Windows will redetect it and cache the correct information.
This came up when I was trying to get fastboot to work (where you turn off the kindle and then plug it into the usb). I was doing this on a clean install of Windows. I found one or two other posts about the same problem, but the only solution was to install the MTP driver manually, which only temporarily worked for me. I hope this helps someone else. I know it will help future me when I run into this again and can't figure what the **** I did to fix it.

Have to say this works spot on, I've been stuffing about with this problem for ages and its all good now.
Did as you said but still had the yellow triangle next to the MTP and kindle icons so clicked update driver and presto it installed the MTP driver ( I have tried many ways to install the driver prior with no success)
So now I have access to the Kindle and can transfer files and do anything with it, it is still showing a yellow triangle next to the MTP icon in the devices and printers page but hey I can still access the hard drive on the kindle
