I rooted my Gnex GSM yesterday using Nexus Root Toolkit. After doing this I found that my pull down menu lags annoyingly when I'm in an app. Does anyone have any idea what the problem could be. I've cleared my cache and dalvik cache as instructed by my friend. But that hasn't done anything to my phone really. Thanks:good:
First, post in the right section.
Superuser/root access has nothing to do with "lag".

what section would that be? I didn't see a rlevant section so I just posted in the general section. So how would one explain that before I rooted, my pull down menu was a smooth transition, and after rooting it isn't?
The Q&A section obviously since your asking a question.

wouldnt know, used a toolkit.
I'n using SuperSU. It is really annoying to see that when I use my pull down menu that it's not a smooth transition

I guess the real question is what ROM you flashed and what Kernel is running.
Some ROM's run faster on Gnex than others.
Personally I have been running AOKP and XenonHD back and forth for some time and have a little lag here and there, but that is because I am able to add and change so much on the ROM. Sometimes changing the kernel helps as well.
At the end of the day it's all about what you are doing and what ROM/Kernel combination give you the user experience you like.
Sorry to say, what you are asking is more of an Art than an exact science when it comes to use and feel.

Long story short, I've been using Codename Android 1.5.5 since its release. Since CNA is no longer supported, I've been wanting to flash one of the great 4.0.4 ROMs. However, I'm having nothing but issues. I can't for the life of me figure out how to downgrade to 4.0.2 so that I can then upgrade to 4.0.4.
I've tried using the Galaxy Nexus Toolkit, but for whatever reason, I can't get it to push the 4.0.2 stock recovery image. The Toolkit just sits there with a "waiting for device prompt". Now, a smart man would say that I would need to install the fastboot drivers. Well, I've tried using the Samsung and Verizon drivers, both with the same result.
I really hate to ask this, but if someone could give me step-by-step instructions on how to downgrade, it would be most appreciated.
I also thought I would go the ODIN route, but the only thing I found on it was this, and the multipupload links are DOA.
1st before lock!
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
Instead of being rude, please show me where I screwed up. I've done my fair share of research and have come up empty handed. Doing a search for "downgrade", "4.0.3 to 4.0.2", "ODIN", etc. results in thousands of results. And yes, I have been reading a great deal of those results over the past 5 hours.
There is no consistent information for troubleshooting, thus my request.
Follow a guide for getting back to stock via fastboot but you really don't need to downgrade to flash a 404 rom download rom to SD boot into cwm wipe data wipe cache under mounts and storage select format system under advanced wipe dalvik cache install zip from SD flash rom flash gapps if the instructions say so and profit.
Edit also you posted in the wrong section hints the 1st before lock comment.

How can you have trouble when there's 1 click tools to do everything? Ofc I'd rather still do manual commands . Also this thread is clearly related to development!

Like someone else said, you don't have to downgrade to use a 4.0.4 rom. Just downloaded it to your phone wipe data in clockwork and install the new rom. If you liked CNA you'll probably like AOKP.

Thank you for that. I actually thought I posted this is Q&A, but I guess I hit "New topic" when browsing Development and didn't realize it.
If a mod wants to move this, please do.

Follow those steps but you don't need to lock bootloader but you will need to root and install cwm again before you install a custom rom although there is no need to have to go back to stock 4.0.2 unless you want stock 4.0.4 if your installing a custom rom who's base is 4.0.4 just download wipe and flash.

Can someone link to a guide dealing with restoring a Nexus? It's stuck at the Google logo. I can get into bootloader mode with power+volume down, but it's not reacting when trying to navigate with the volume buttons after that.
I got a little bit tired of waiting for official firmware on my Galaxy S2 (even if CM was fun) so I got a Nexus yesterday - great price these days. It was the 4.0.1 yakju version as I'm in Western Europe.Unlocked and rooted with Root Toolkit v1.4 after which I wanted to install 4.0.4 using this guide. Got as far as flashing system.img and then the above happened.
All I want is to get back to working stock so that I can flash 4.1. Have no data on the device so a factory reset is no problem.
Much appreciated.

Just fastboot flash Nexus Factory Images if you have no problem with wiping your data. That's odd that your bootloader won't respond to volume buttons... I might say try reflashing the bootloader and recovery, but since your bootloader is acting up right now, I'd go to flashing the factory images first, and if that doesn't work, try reflashing just bootloader and a custom recovery.

BTW, volume down and power is not the bootloader. You need to press volume up and volume down and power.

I have GNex for about 2 months now so I decided to root it. I did it ok and everything worked fine. But than
I decided to install custom kernel so I did it. Well after that I cant boot my Nexus, its stuck at its first boot animation
with white Google in a middle and little lock in a bottom. Only thing I can do is go to bootloader and acces recovery mod.
I tried to do pretty much everything in a recovery menu but its still not booting.

Reflash your ROM if you have any on your SD card. Also you can use a toolkit and flash the factory image.

I understand the hatred for toolkits because it causes complacency but its extremely easy to fix a device using it. Everyone should know how to use adb but I have used both and they both have worked perfectly for me.

im sorry, but if you think typing a few commands in to flash the stock images is hard, you really are lazy.
I never said it was hard. What is your major grief with toolkits? How is using a toolkit any different than flashing someone else's ROM? You can compile it yourself but its much more efficient to just flash and go. This will be my last response unless the OP has any more issues he needs help with. Good luck with fixing your phone no matter what method you would like to use.

because when the toolkit fails, it fails hard and then the user of said toolkit has no idea how to fix anything and posts threads on here saying "i bricked my phone and used such and such toolkit"
the people helping them have no idea where to even begin to try and troubleshoot the problem as you dont know the failure point. the toolkit just says "complete" or "done"
that is my major beef with toolkits.

I have seen this a few times recently. I did not have that happen when I read on ICS. It only happened after I updated to lj7.

No and I have never had to pull the battery it just restarts after a lil.
I have lots of experience flashing android roms and this may be a first for me.
Flashed latest MMuzzyrom 4.3 vanilla. Originally had latest stock rooted.
Everything worked flashed full gapps for 4.3 right after it and booted right into android. Everything was previously wiped clean. rebooted soon after and it stick on "google" with "unlock"
screen for half an hour before giving up.
Tried second time and booted right into the new rom. I forgot about the previous reboot issue. spent all day getting most of my apps installed and everything setup. Went to reboot and same crap . Tried clearing cache and dalvik no help.
Wish I would have not wasted my time. I only wish their is a way to salvage this before flashing another rom or a stock image.

I have lots of experience as well and this is the first time I've run into this issue. The same **** has been happening to me on all 4.3 ROMs. I had to wipe everything, including internal storage, and reflash a 4.2.2 ROM to solve it. Wish I knew the issue here.
I decided to try flashing a different 4.3 ROM and it hung up for some reason during booting. I then decided to flash the factory image. Then tried the different ROM I downloaded. Seems to be good now. I still don't know what caused it but life is good now.
