Hi,
I have GNex for about 2 months now so I decided to root it. I did it ok and everything worked fine. But than
I decided to install custom kernel so I did it. Well after that I cant boot my Nexus, its stuck at its first boot animation
with white Google in a middle and little lock in a bottom. Only thing I can do is go to bootloader and acces recovery mod.
I tried to do pretty much everything in a recovery menu but its still not booting.
What can I do to restore stock rom with stock kernel or I dont know what can helps here. Pleas I will be realy greatful I am
a little bit noob to this
Reflash your ROM if you have any on your SD card. Also you can use a toolkit and flash the factory image.

My internal storage is empty, no ROMs or any factory images on it.
toolkit is a good idea but I dont have turned on USB debugging, isnt that problem?
But I will try
I don't think it matters if you are flashing the stock image. You can also Odin in a worst case scenario thing.

I understand the hatred for toolkits because it causes complacency but its extremely easy to fix a device using it. Everyone should know how to use adb but I have used both and they both have worked perfectly for me.

im sorry, but if you think typing a few commands in to flash the stock images is hard, you really are lazy.
I never said it was hard. What is your major grief with toolkits? How is using a toolkit any different than flashing someone else's ROM? You can compile it yourself but its much more efficient to just flash and go. This will be my last response unless the OP has any more issues he needs help with. Good luck with fixing your phone no matter what method you would like to use.

because when the toolkit fails, it fails hard and then the user of said toolkit has no idea how to fix anything and posts threads on here saying "i bricked my phone and used such and such toolkit"
the people helping them have no idea where to even begin to try and troubleshoot the problem as you dont know the failure point. the toolkit just says "complete" or "done"
that is my major beef with toolkits.

Can someone link to a guide dealing with restoring a Nexus? It's stuck at the Google logo. I can get into bootloader mode with power+volume down, but it's not reacting when trying to navigate with the volume buttons after that.
I got a little bit tired of waiting for official firmware on my Galaxy S2 (even if CM was fun) so I got a Nexus yesterday - great price these days. It was the 4.0.1 yakju version as I'm in Western Europe.Unlocked and rooted with Root Toolkit v1.4 after which I wanted to install 4.0.4 using this guide. Got as far as flashing system.img and then the above happened.
All I want is to get back to working stock so that I can flash 4.1. Have no data on the device so a factory reset is no problem.
Much appreciated.

Just fastboot flash Nexus Factory Images if you have no problem with wiping your data. That's odd that your bootloader won't respond to volume buttons... I might say try reflashing the bootloader and recovery, but since your bootloader is acting up right now, I'd go to flashing the factory images first, and if that doesn't work, try reflashing just bootloader and a custom recovery.

Have a look at posts 1 and 2 in the "flash" link in my sig.
BTW, volume down and power is not the bootloader. You need to press volume up and volume down and power.

Perfect, that guide worked. Installed 4.0.4 and then 4.1. The root guide does not work on 4.1 however, but I'll find another one. Many thanks.

You formatted the system partition. You need to use a computer and follow one of the stickies in this section on flashing the corresponding factory image to your device.
Do you mind doing a full reset? Easiest way to solve your problem but will erase everything on it ...

He already formatted his system partition. He needs to rebuild it by flashing a factory image.
All right. Didn't understood that, the message was a bit messy lol.
But don't worry, you just have to reset your device to stock using Odin.
I can tell you the steps to follow to get to result you want but just go on YouTube and type " how to restore to stock / unroot galaxy nexus GSM to jelly bean". You'll find a great step by step video from "techfanatic9" and you'll be back on track.
Don't forget to thank if that helped you (me and video you'll be watching).
Let us know if you managed to do it, it should be pretty easy.
Don't freak out, just follow the steps and you'll be good to go

ODIN has no business being used with a Nexus. Fastboot is infinitely superior and actually supported. There's also no reason to need to go to YouTube when there are several stickies in this section on how to do it CORRECTLY through fastboot.

As i said before that i tried almost every thing but no luck i did flash stock image through ODIN and i think it able to get rid off all this kind of problem ! And did factory reset wipe system , dalvik , cache but still have same problem :what: sometime i got homescreen too but after few sec or minute its restart itself and got bootloop
As already mentioned, return to stock using fastboot. Be sure to update boot loader, radios, everything. Then flash the latest TWRP or CWM and go from there.

I just told him the way I would do it. That happened to me before, I don't know the fastboot method so I used ODIN and it worked very well.
That being said, the fastboot method might be the best and maybe if Odin didn't work he should try that.
Anyways, we're here to help and I gave him the method that I know which worked for me

I tried using CWM recovery but it says error
Why do so many people on xda have such a hard time understanding what "bricked" means.
If you can easily fix it, then it isn't "bricked"
It's bricked if it has to go for jtag
If you read the description for chainfire 3d, it distinctly says "not compatible with ICS/Jellybean" so theres your problem why u have troubles... a factory reset might not be the fix. ODIN may be the only way.

Yeah it's because they can't get the phone to come back on. So that's why they think it's bricked. Plus it's the only word they know and heard of. There's also soft brick, stuck in a loop, etc. But most of the time when the phone stops working correctly, most thinks it's bricked! Lol

For me, even "soft brick" is a stupid term..
A phone is either bricked or not bricked. If it is bricked, there is no fixing it imo (other than jtag)
Odin will fix this, this happened to my S2 while I'm on JB. Just download the latest odin, and the stock rom of your Note 2, probably you can find the rom on sammobile, google will help you out, PM me if you need any assistance. Just relax, it's not broken.

Ok so I need 4.1.2 of Jellybean, I still don't know what Odin is though
Anyways, i tried factory reset too and it seems like nothing happened
So my n7 has been down for the past 2 months cause of poor Asus service on an RMA. Took me sending the unit in 3 times before they gave me a new device.
I feel so out of the loop and overwhelmed
Anyways, I was unlocked manually, rooted with wugs tool and twrp recovery flashed with wugs tool. Is this still all possible to do on kit Kat, the latest update?
What's the best ROM and or kernel being run out there in you guys opinions. This is the biggest thing that's overwhelming since development has taken off in the last 2 months IMO.
Thanks for any help and tips, I appreciate it guys/girls!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Yeah you can still do that..
If you unlocked manually you know how to use fastboot so just flash twrp or cwm with that. No need for a toolkit.
Rom/kernels up to you man. Depends what you want, see what they offer, there is no best. I like CM myself.
Alright thanks. Yeah, I'm familiar with fastboot. I'll just do that. How do I root though if I fastboot install twrp?
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
Right now I am running SinlessRom with ElementalX kernel and the ROM is liquid smooth, scored 28205 in anTuTu (overclocked). Have tried BS Harmony CM based but I just don't like the look of it and CM ROMs used to be my fav.
Where do I find the proper super su zip to root after fastboot flashing twrp?

With all due respect, sure we could walk you through the process but really, do yourself a favor and do some reading to learn all that is required. Familiarize yourself with everything first, in the end you'll be thankful you did. After all...learning is part of the fun. Lots of folks use a toolkit like wugfresh's to unlock, root, install recoveries, etc.
Yeah, I know the steps, just not sure if I'm looking in the right spot. Guess I'll read more in that thread to find out if it's the right one......

Just got a friends Nexus and it was last used with 4.1.2 jellybean, I tried updating via OTA in settings but there is no update there and says my phone is up to date. I'd like at least 4.2.2 although 4.3 would do well
I've tried using methods of clearing data from the Google framework but that did not work.
Also I have only just installed everything i want on it as i had to factory reset.

With fastboot. No toolkits of course.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda app-developers app
and to add to this, to find all relevant info on your build I believe you can find it in bottom left when you boot into fastboot/bootloader
which is done by holding both volume buttons and power button down all at the same time
I'm not this bad with technology but am new to this device aha
I think I may have screwed up pretty majorly,
I rooted and installed cwm as usual and tried flashing updates but that didn't work
Then I decided that I would install a custom ROM on it which I wasn't going to, so now I'm stuck as I wiped data and tried flashing both pa and slim but both failed, I assume this is because of an older version of cwm which was used because it was needed to flash the updates.
So now I am stuck without an os and when I boot it just goes through the Google logo twice then goes to cwm.
What is suggested for these situations aha? Thanks

Just use adb sideload. Saved my ass a couple of times too.
Thanks but I found a really good method on XDA because I believe it was soft bricked. I used Odin to flash stock 4.2.2 and that got rid of root and custom recovery. Once that was done I then updated to 4.3 in the settings via ota
Thank you for all you help
I have no idea about any of this adb sideload stuff so I'll learn about it before I screw up next time aha
