Well u can still root your phone even it has a locked bootloader. u just cant have cwm recovery and cant use a custom kernel.
Thanks! Are there any other roms or tweaks that I can flash to my locked Xperia ion? It is an LT28at, but I flashed the LT28h onto it excluding the baseband so Im still getting my LTE from AT&T. Fairly new to all this and think its incredible!!! Thanks for all the support.

You can actually flash another version, like the lt28h, root it and install cwm. I have the lt28at flashed with lt28h jelly bean, rooted and have cwm, its totally possible. Just have to read the threads, then read it again and follow the instructions closely. Once you have cwm you can flash other roms even with a locked bootloader.

Unfortunately once we have JB, CWM doesn't stick, actually it doesn't work at all. So the best I have right now is a rooted flex with the official OTA update...but no CWM At this point I only know of one other rom that is available, Ice cream flex and that is with ICS of which CWM works with.

Hello,
Been looking around on the forums, and kinda got a jist of how this works for the ARC, I've rooted my own Samsung galaxy S2, but Im trying to do the same for a friend.
as mentioned hes currently running 2.3.4 on LT15i 4.0.2.A.0.62. From what I've read you have to downgrade to .42? if the bootloader is locked. however it it is unlocked (which I think it is/is unlockable) then what do I do next?
I plan to root the phone then probably install cyanogen mod on it instead.
Thanks
You got 3 options with unlocked bootloader
1 you can still down grade to .42 then root with either flashtools or with zergrush easy root method.
2 with unlocked bootloader flash a custom kernel that has root already. Ie doomlords
What ever you do if I bootloader is unlocked r do not update over the air as this will brick you phone.
3 Out perhaps another option would be to flash ics room and get root very easy look for binary part in dev section.
Hope this helps

Thanks! just what I needed.
Im going to Flash to .62 pre-rooted then install clockwork mod and titanium backup then flash to Cyanogenmod.
Thanks again!

Hey folks, my wife has a xperia Neo unrooted on official Ics, its blazing fast, on the other hand mine is an arc rooted on global ics and its slow. What can I do to improve this?
Sent from my LT15i using xda app-developers app
It doesn't no, and you're supposed to find out what root is before doing it then asking how to utilise it.

Actually, I have asked several other friends with Adnroid phones and they say that after rooting the phone get slower, my wife's is not rooted stock ICS and its faster than my rooted ARC on stok global ICS....and I rooted my phone mostly b/c I have titanium backup and after a rom install I get all the apps I backed up before..

Did you used doomlord's root toolkit to get root access, tchĂȘ? Are you using latest ICS (.587)?
No such a thing like slowing the phone down after root. It is the same, but if you manage to use this root, to change drivers, apps, scripts, etc, you can make it several times faster! I am happy that i have rooted and unlocked my arc.
Do i need to have root if my bl is unlocked and i want to flash custom rom?

If you installed a kernel that have CWM (eg: adv stock kernel), simply enter in CWM and flash the compatible custom rom. If you're still using the stock kernel (but I guess that's not your case, since there's no point in unlock BL if you're gonna use stock kernel), you'll need root to install CWM to flash the custom rom.
First i will flash custom kernel for unlocked bootloader, of course, so i dont need to root this stock software?

It won't be the root that's caused their Phones it will be whatever mods they've made.

No such thing I've heard 83732727629947721 different stories of that. either you
1) didn't root it properly
2) installed a mod that made your phone slow

No... I don't see any diference
What you do after rooting matters, you just have to tweak ur phone n it will be blazing fast!
Sent from my LT18i using xda premium
Definitely nope. It's the room, believe on me. I had several roms including the original sony's one, I wanted to burn my phone, but now I have a jellybean ROM and it's fast as hell, I feel like I have the best phone in the world.
Hi Everyone
I unlocked my bootloader a few months ago, rooted, and I flashed a version of ICS, which I think is stock. I dont have receovery installed, I tried to sort that out last night, but I got lost amongst and couldnt work out what to install and how.
Its 4.0.4 - 6.1.A.2.45 - and I am having a few issues with it. It seems to be laggy, the camera freezes when recording video and often crashes and doesn't save the video and the WIFI is just hopeless!
Does anyone know how to fix this? Is there a better .ftp for me to flash? Please leave links if possible because this issue is just driving me insane!
thanks!
Amanda
hi, try to locked your bootloader then repair via pc companion.
and also, for your other question click my signature "Read ME".
If it's unlocked the bootloader then fastboot a custom kernel. Advanced stock is great. Then flash a custom rom. May as I flash a Jellybean rom

I just installed ROM manager and found out clockwork recovery doesn't work for us why does everything have to be so hard with this phone?
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
Just have a look at the custom kernels and chose one then fast boot or use the flash tool, cwm works for us

The only problem with this is, you need to flash the doomkernal, which requires flashing back to GB? Then you need to install a host of other apps to get it too work. Just so I can flash a custom rom, wow, nothing is easy is it,
This phone is just so damned hard to do anything with, I am considering going to the new Samsung when it comes out in a few months!
No just flash advanced stock kernel instead from development forum. It's ridiculously easy once you're unlocked and have a cwm kernel flashed
Download a custom rom to the phone (i recommend pac rom)
Download advanced stock kernel to pc. Fastboot using that guide.
Then boot into recovery and install zip from sd and pick pac rom (follow the guidelines in pac rom thread for flashing)

Last time I checked I could not load any custom ROMS onto this phone as it has a locked bootloader. I did manage to get CWM onto it. I now see there is jellybean and would like to upgrade to this but it's not being offered by ATT yet if ever. Can I flash a LT28i jelly bean ROM over? Please go easy on me this is not my phone but my mothers and I am just trying to keep it up to date and working well for her.
Guide

looks difficult but just follow the steps
although i do believe that there may be a simpler way out there i just cant find the damn thread
Yes you can very easily flash the lt28h ftf JB version onto your lt28at to get JB. Look in the Dev section for info. Specifically the stock firmware downloads thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1752345
Or since you are rooted and have cwm installed you can follow this thread instead

Try searching a bit because this has been covered at length previously.

LT28h Firmware on LT28at device
Hi,
I downloaded Android 4.1.2 Firmware for LT28h and flashed on my Xperia Ion LT28at. It works like Champ .
Now I've rooted with DooMLoRD_Easy-Rooting-Toolkit_v17_perf-event-exploit.zip
Go ahead download Lt28h firmware and flash it. :good:
Was on 4.1 then updated via OTA kept root lost NFC can't find a fix other then to update again but that wasn't the plan unless I want to flash a prerooted 4.3 first I need CMW for the ZL not sure I have it for the Xperia T but I'm not sure if both are compatible ?

then just install CWM for ZL over here
but root it first before flashing CWM
lastly flash a pre-rooted 4.3 rom

Well then I need the corresponding Firmware of the 4.1 cause it seems I'm not fully rooted right now some apps have access and some don't
I'm trying to flash the 4.1 kernel so I can try rooting it again even though it says it's Rooted and to try and use that method of down grading the Kernel and running Doom lords Rooting kit but when flashing the old Kernel it may not be the right one I was getting a boot loop so I re-flashed the Canadian 10.3.A.0.423 and all was fine I swear I've searched all over these forums and I can't find what I need just the instructions on how to do it a lot of these links no longer work I'm using a C6506 ZL with the Bell firmware at least I have the FTF to go with it but I need the older one as well.
