Camera Picture Quality Different for each firmware? - Sony Xperia ZL

I have the C6502
When I first got my phone I was very happy with the quality of the pictures it took. But after updating the firmware to the latest 4.2.2 I've been taking ok quality pictures.
So I've done some tests of each firmware by taking a picture right after flashing the firmwares.
So far the images from Xperia ZL (C6502)_10.1.1.A.1.253 takes the best pictures.
The rank from highest to lowest is
1. Xperia ZL (C6502)_10.1.1.A.1.253_Generic US 1270-7577 R7A
2. Xperia ZL_10.3.A.0.423_Indonezia С6502
3. Xperia ZL C6502_10.1.A.1.434_Customized US 1270-7577 R6A
Is anyone else noticing the drop in quality from 253 to 423??
I just want to know if this is a common problem with different firmwares...
Thanks

It would be nice if you could post some pics taken with each firmware. better if the photos are of the same place , same object same light conditions ETC so we could compare and see the differences. :good:

I'm also curious as to whether it's the firmware, or simply the version of the camera app included with each rom.
This thread seems to make me lean towards it being the app's fault.

OK this is a 13 MP camera right? but on the camera setting its until 12 MP??? on 4.2.2

Can we get 3D Multi Angle From Arc S

I saw in youtube 3D Multi Angle picture it was just awesome. Did someone manage to get that out of the Arc S dump?
Here is a video that covers it
I was wondering about that too. Went through the whole flashing/rooting/formating/updating to 2.3.4 process mostly because of this feature, just to discover that it's not there.. Bummer :/
i think we can get this
cause the different from the ARC S is only the CPU and the other think are identically like Camera Display and all other thinks.
omg...
when do you all recognize that all xperias have the same firmware on it???
if a new device got it all others will got it too.... and the arc already got it with the 4.0.1.A.0.268 update for nordic....
other regions will follow with the next FW release in october....

pls read right.
The NEW XPERIA ARC S has the same firmware how the old Xperia Arc
but the function 3D Multi Angle is not available on the Old Xperia Arc
and the Question was how can we get this 3D Multi Angle on our Xperia Arc older models too.
nope thats not correct...
Arc has now 4.0.1.A.0.283 (with 3D camera)
Arc S has 4.0.1.A.0.266 (with 3D camera AND 3D angle view)
so you see in this case it is not exactly the same and could be removed from the actual xperia update...
the update that goes around now is JUST for nordic and NOT for other regions... all other countries will skip this update and will get a new one in october with build number 4.0.2.x.x and i'm shure with this update Arc S and all other xperias will have the same FW again and all will get the 3D angle view...

I hope you're right. It'll make my decision to wait over flashing the Nordic firmware worth it. Multi angle view is definelly the best feature, removing iy from this update is like a new BigMac without meat, just wont do.

I can not guarantee that it will come but it would go against the whole unified software concept they use until now and would cause a lot of extra development work...

There is already a thread on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2454053
I found the OP to be very helpful. Read through it and see
qx 10
i order qx 10 from sony centre. Will collect tomorrow..
I just got my QX100 and these are my first impressions:
Good:
+ Incredible photo quality, even the Nokia 1020 isnt close
+ Build quality
+ Good quality 1080p video
+ Fits really good at my Sony Z1 ACX2 case
+ Handy to take with you in a pocket
+ Uses its own memory card and battery
+ Many settings in photo app, feels like a real camera
Not so good:
-The "PlayMemories Mobile" app is so slow and unfriendly to handle
-Takes many many seconds from start to first photo
-Can not use phones built in flash or camera button?
-Battery life doesnt seem that good
-You can not change the folder where it saves the photos on the phone, which makes the photos dont sync with Dropobx etc.
-You can not browse the photos on the camera from the phone
-No way in the app to see which photos (can be auto-copied) and videos (can not be auto-copied) that are saved both on the phone and in the camera memory
-If you copy everything from camera memory to phone memory it will make second copies of the files already in phone memory instead of keeping both folders "in sync".
-No RAW photos
I love everything about the hardware as much as I hate everything about the software. Just the name, "PlayMemories Mobile"?!
I am hoping for an update with RAW files as well as major improvements in the software making it easier to use.
Just replay if you have some specific questions and I will try to answer.
I purchased the Sony DSC-QX10.
Just the novelty of having this cool "toy" and being able to take photos where a normal camera can't.
Would have loved to have bought the QX100, but it's a bit too much bite out of my wallet...the QX10's 10X optical zoom makes up for it though.
The only issue I have so far is there is a slight lag between the QX10 and my Xperia Z1S at times.
Not made for catching any immediate action shots, but stills & portraits are mainly the strengths to the QX10/100.
This definitely isn't a replacement camera, but an additional tool to add to my DSLR camera bag.
Im using qx100 with case for attaching it to z1
Pros
Great photo quality
Z1 acts as detachable viewfinder, useful for filming videos
Supporting tripod
Shutter button on z1 is now supported after the latest firmware upgrade
Cons
Connection is a big hassle, sucess rate is not 100%
When it fails, u hv to shut the playmemories app and the camera down, and restart the connection
After 2 firmware updates, it improves for a bit, still fail to connect from time to time
Playmemories app doesnt stay at background, so.. whenever you mininised the app, you need to re connect the camera with the app once again. Maybe rooting the phone can solve this?
Does not support led flash on z1
When attaching it with z1's exclusive case and take picture with z1's camera, it blocks the view..
You are from Singapore?
U can try getting it from here

It is around 500$ and seems quite trustable.

Using my XperiaZ running Android 4.2 , taking photo's with QX100 and Play Memories was slow
but bearable. Since 4.3 and now 4.4, it has become unusable. The latest firmware on QX100 improved
only slightly. Any screen touch takes 15 seconds to respond. So photo's can only be made using the
button on the QX100. However, without setting the focus witch requires a screen touch. And without
transferring photo's to the phone (new handy option introduced with the latest firmware and
PlayMemories App), saving 30 seconds each time.
With any other android phone I tried the QX100 (specifically Play Memories) works reasonable
but slow. With all other cons mentioned before. But Sony's Xperia Z is unusably slow. Clearly I'm
very disappointed.
Using a QX10 together with my Z1. Very happy with it. Connection takes around 6 seconds and picture transfer around 2 seconds. (Transferring 2mp photos only). Full res photos get saved to the QX10s sd card and can be retrieved manually anytime.
Looking to purchase the QX100 next. And the Z1 case attachment but its very expensive right now.

I've re-installed 4.4.2 on XperiaZ from scratch using sony's companion software. Now the QX100 (and play memories App) are working reasonably slow. I can take pictures again. I do hope sony can fix the "screen-off camera connection gone" problem for play memories. Restarting takes so much time.
I am happy with my QX10 where it is small and compact, guess most pros and cons are the same.
Just want to share my exp. I bring QX10 to oversea trips and surprise many. Had take selfie with a camera pole attached to it and can position myself better and take nice selfie. Took a few video and the quality is very good. I even took a video of fire work with it and many say its very nice I am happy to get QX10.

Post results, please. My ZL is getting repaired and im dying to test the camera. :cyclops:
Hmm... Not sure if this will share right...Flicker-set
Here's a couple of pictures taken with and without flash of a rack of servers and of a bookshelf. The shots include those taken with the ZL, a S2, and a S3...
I would say the ZL does ok... though I like the manual pictures better than the Superior Auto. Alot of noise gets introduced when it tries to adjust the ISO settings to something way past the optics of the phone.
I haven't really looked at the camera on anything pre 2.67...)
Note - the S2 is running T989UVMC6 (4.1.2), the S3 is an I747 running 4.1.1 JR003L.I747UCDLK3.
Both phones are rooted, but are running stock TW roms.
I actually disagree, and think that the stock camera app was better in Android 4.2. It doesn't seem nearly as good in low light areas with Android 4.3, compared to before the update. I have been searching for a camera app on the Play Store for a little while today, and I might try a few and compare the qualities of them versus the stock Sony camera app.
Has anyone else tried any different camera apps on the Play Store?

[Q] Fixed focus on video recording in stock camera

Hi!
I plan to buy Z1 Compact.
The phone is superb - with some tweak it's like a rocket.
BUT.
On almost all videos on all latest Sony phones they all have the same issue with going in and out of focus all the time - is there a way to make focus fixed\locked???
Thank you!

Xperia XA1/XA1 Ultra camera performance

Hello everyone. As you all know, XA1/XA1 Ultra uses the same 23MP IMX300 sensor from Z5/Z5C/Z5P/X/XP/XC/XZ. I happened to stumble upon a review of XA1 on this Turkish technology website (TeknoSeyir - https://teknoseyir.com/sony-xperia-xa1-akilli-telefon-incelemesi) which I like very much. And the reviewer stated that the actual quality of the photo output on XA1 is much better than his own X Compact and the XZ which he reviewed. Of course, he mentions that XA1 lacks in the department of laser autofocus and RGB spectrum sensor, but he says that it's clearly visible that XA1 is much better at filtering the unwanted defects and granulation due to high ISO than, even, XZ. This must be 100% related with the post processing algorithm on the XA1. I wonder if this newer camera software will be released for IMX300 devices as well. Let's gather all the Camera related topics here, and discuss and compare it's performance to other IMX300 devices. Also, can anyone tell us the version of the Camera app on this phone (which you can find under Settings-->Apps-->Camera).
Prior to Xperia XA1 I had Xperia Z3 and I must say the camera quality of Pictures taken with this phone are way better than that. Also low light photos have huge improvement over Z3.

Yes, that's what I heard. People have been waiting for an improved algorithm from Sony for a LOOOONG time now. And according to Murat Gamsız (the reviewer in this video, owner of an X Compact), XA1 has better low light performance and less ISO granulation than his X Compact and the XZ which he reviewed. Bearing in mind that these 3 devices mentioned all have IMX300 sensor with f/2.0 aperture, and XA1 even lacks RGB sensor and IR autofocus, but it produces better stills , and this is a major thing of celebration here. XA1 is basicly the same with Z5/X/X Performance in terms of camera, all having the same camera and aperture, and all lacking RGB and IR sensors, so it'd be awesome if Sony could reflect the things they've done to XA1 on our slightly older devices. I'm sure XZ Premium and XZs are already running on this renewed algorithm and the updates for XZ/X Compact are on the way. I just wish Sony treats us (Z5/X/XP users) well while we're on the way out

I thought the XA1 has laser autofocus just not the RGB spectrum sensor. Maybe some website are reporting it wrong.
However, its amazing how this phone produces better images than my old Z5. Photos do seem to have less noise and appear cleaner than what the do in the Z5.

It's the sad nature of the business, unfortunately. It makes no sense financially for Sony to update their older hardware. We're lucky they support their devices as long as they do. My original Z went from 4.1 to 4.2 to 4.3 to 4.4 before they eventually stopped updating the roms for it.
I don't understand the finer details of digital cameras, I've no idea what f/2.0 even means, but the XA1 does take some really nice pictures. I've got no complaints here.

Aside from the camera, how do you feel about the XA1? Does it feel like an upgrade, downgrade, or the same with a better camera? I too have a Z3 and been thinking of just settling for a mid-range that has a good camera which the XA1 seems to be.

Yes there are a few things to be considered here like....
Design is different then conventional Sony design .
If you are not a fan of large display phones then definitely you are gonna love it.
Slightly Curved display edges feels good while operating.
WiFi signal reception is better than z3.
Sound is a bit low than z3.
Nought 7 is there.
Multi window support is there as well.
Phone doesn't heat up whether you are on 2g 3g or 4g, it's a major advantage over Z3.
Last but not least despite the fact that it has 2300 mAh Battery it will last longer than z3.
dual sim support as well.
Had anyone tried to use the "Launch & Capture" function?
Everytime I use it, the camera take photo without focusing.
This Quick Capture function is useless if the photo is blurred...

Regarding the camera version, my Xa1 ultra was bought back in June, in Germany, and it's the single-sim version (I read on one of the replies to your post that there's another xa1 ultra featuring dual-sim) although I'm not sure if there are any differences other than the 2nd sim capability to the 2 phone versions.
Anyway, details aside, replying directly to your question, the camera version on my phone is 2.0.0.108. Hope this helps.
