This is the new 4.3 (?) gallery app from Google. I tested it out and it is working on CyanogenMod 10.1.0 nightlies, but I can't confirm on any other ROMs. I personally like this update a lot, and find it to be much smoother. I understand this has been posted, I just though it may be easier for some of the beginners to have a quick guide on how to correctly install it.
How to install:
Download APK
Rename to Gallery2.apk (on CM) or whatever your respective gallery app is called on your ROM
Move to /system/app/ with root browser
Reboot into recovery
Fix Permissions, Wipe Cache, and Wipe Dalvik Cache
Reboot
Voila! It should be working, if not try changing permissions in root browser to rw-r--r--
Enjoy, and drop a comment below!

Appreciate the little tutorial there.
Might help a cpl guys out. Good job!
Thank you! Have you tested it out? Some features seem to be broken for now, but I'm sure there will be a fix when a more official version comes out

Yeah, the front facing camera causes a reboot after taking a pic. Haven't messed with the camcorder yet. I have this camera and Snap Camera from the Playstore while running the latest Carbon Nightly.
Still need to test everything out, but definitely going to keep this camera for when I want to take the Panorama shots. Awesome feature and works perfectly.
Yeah I've been getting the same "cannot connect to camera" error. I'm sure it will be fixed soon enough

Weird. The first screenie kept loading sideways on me. It's not a Screenshot but an actual picture I took.
Eh, whatever
just want to confirm that on cm10.1 roms this doesn't work with the front facing camera for pictures or videos.

It works, but then you need to reboot ;P I'm sure we will find a fix very soon! Don't worry.
Got one of these off Android Police or wherever.
The original gallery can install as a user app and this one can go right beside it. Push to /data/app/
Running on an LG P500 running June 19 cm10.1 nightly. Camera works and with correct brightness on startup. Gallery works except any attempt to use its editor functions will FC (likely armv7). I assume both can be used, i.e. new camera and old editor as defaults.
The gallery2.apk (com.gallery3d) editor sometimes works, sometimes crashes on my older device. Color-effects look to be for wrong pixel density.

This is nothing new, but it hadn't been fully ported to The Epic 4G on GB, i'm not sure to whom attribution is due, as i scoured the smali to figure it out.

Thank you for this. Wanted to take some pictures the other day but battery was too low.
In this post I originally asked if anyone had tried this with EL30 yet...
But now I see that there is a silent camera option specifically for EL30 here:

So, please disregard, and please forgive my n00bness.
Thanks anyway to anyone who works on these fixes!

Focal v1.0 by CyanogenMod
Requirements: Android 4.1+
Overview: We all know that the stock camera app is a bit lackluster. So does the CyanogenMod team. In true developer spirit, they’ve decided to take matters into their own hands and create their own camera app, Focal.

Focal follows the same stock Android design language that we all know and love but adds features and tweaks to make it an above-and-beyond improvement over Google’s stock camera app. And just to let everyone know, Focal is indeed a part of the mysterious Nemesis project that the CM team has teased. In fact, Nemesis is the codename for a series of new features such as Focal that will be rolling out over the coming weeks and months.
Focal uses a new configuration with the camera set-up that fits into the stock Android look and feel, but is actually something entirely new. The shutter button now doubles as a quick toggle menu to select between camera modes. To do this, simply swipe your thumb out from the shutter button for a crescent of options including panorama, front-facing camera and even access to CyanogenMod’s answer to Photosphere, PicSphere.
To change all of your other settings, simply swipe in from the left side of the screen while you’re in portrait or from the bottom when shooting in landscape. Here you can access pretty much anything else you could want–everything from HDR to the maximum number taken during a burst shot. It’s a useful set-up that should work well for people, and it certainly outguns the annoying circle set-up in the stock Android app. If you want manually focus the shot, drag and drop the focus point. Again, an infinitely better solution than what Google offers.

Now, Google has updated its camera app to version 2.2.024, and once again, they have ported previous camera functionality to the app. The two main features that today’s update brings are support for a camera self-timer (either three or ten seconds) and a new option to change your image capture aspect ratio from the default 4:3 to 16:9. In addition, there are a few other, more minor tweaks such as a new prompt upon first launch that lets you select between full sensor (4:3) and cropped sensor (16:9) capture, as well as a new pop-up that lets you know about the camera settings menu when switching between modes.

Guess these random reboots must be caused by something else because I never had any random reboots on Nexus 4 with this Camera app running CM11
i dont have any random reboot with this camera app
so perhaps that the problem is not from it..
My N4 would reboot after every picture especially after using Flash....too much UV, so i gave it some Voltage
Thanks, will try it as soon as I get home.. :victory:
Thank you for the APK
you're welcome guys

Yep. Not sure why it is not going full screen. I'm running civato's 4.4.2 rom and the apk posted is right off my Note 8. Are there any other apps that show up smaller than they should be or is that the only one?
The only one...
You can try using xposed framework and use per app settings... to adjust dpi and screen resolution per app. It should fix the issue, once you get the right settings. I would assume going with 220dpi to see if the app runs larger than it was, and then try a higher number.
Of all the apps that I tested using higher resolution and dpi... only one really had issues. Netflix registration screen was too big to properly register with 220dpi and a higher resolution set.
Though I found just setting the build.prop dpi to 220 and removing the per app settings, did pretty well for what I wanted.
Thx for your suggestions, but I don't want to use xposed.
Did a reinstallation of my device - new 4.1.2 Rom - and got here the same behavior. App is not full screen.
Tried the app also on my Note 1 and here the App is also not full screen. Really crazy...
This app work better on my Stock 4.4.2. Russian
Is there an english version?
I use photo shop express , also removed stock Samsung photo editor and replaced it with photoretouching 5.5.87 (S5 photo editor), though it is only used in gallery as a quick tool, which is good enough. Only saves in low resolution which males It good for sharing without peeps ability to edit in fine detail and extort your arses with pix of you doing the nasty or punk slapping bums on the streets.

Whenever I take a photo with the rear camera, all I get is a green picture and nothing else. But taking videos and the front camera work without a problem.

That was a known issue with using an older ROM. I haven't used this .zip, but with just the .apk, since the camera has been updated, the green photos issue was gone for me. Are you using latest RR or LineageOS on @jesec build server? Maybe it's just official LineageOS as I know not every camera update has been merged.

This bug (with green photos on HTC camera) is not present on latest builds of RR.
Will this work on different devices also? In particular on a 32 bit Snapdragon. Also, does it add a pro mode for non -htc devices without editing the entire build.Prop? I have the APK, but it's pretty limited in functionality
