Long time reader, first time poster.... I'm stick of stock Gingerbread on my Glide (love the keyboard), just curious what the best ROM is for my phone on Rogers? I want to keep most of the functionality and have all the cool new features of ICS or JB.
Thanks,
JT

I am looking for a stable, stock ICS or JB rom (I was thinking about cm10).
My question: Is it possible to still get some of the samsung features (ie. smart stay which keeps the screen on if you are looking at it) ?
So I may be one of the few people that actually really likes TouchWiz. I have CM9 on my HP Touchpad, which is great, but I feel some of the widgets that TW has are perfect for me.
With that said, I really want JB on my ATT Galaxy s3. Are there any TouchWiz based ROMS for JB out there that are fully stable? I just read today that we may not get JB for a while, which sucks.
Thanks!
Try this rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1869300 It's based off of the T-Mobile leak of Samsung's touchwiz JB with extra features. It's the Milestone 6 version you are looking for.
would you say it's stable enough for heavy daily use? thanks!

I tried it a few times and didn't run into any problems, battery life was decent and ROM overall was VERY fast. I just really like some of the tweaks that the stock ICS Ariel Rom provides that I keep switching back to Ariel. The main features I like are the center clock option, music track change with volume controls and the CRT off animation. If I were to use another ROM it would be that JB leak I listed. For now, just using Ariel ICS rom until the official build comes out for AT&T and Ariel upgrades to JB.
That same developer is making a TW/AOSP Hybrid ROM called "Hannah" just stay subscribed to him, he is an amazing developer and really listens to his users to find and fix any bugs that may be present.

My uncle is having a galaxy note 2 bought in India. it came with Stock ROM 4.1.1 JB. so my uncle wanted to upgrade to newer version of JB. So i wanted to test a custom ROM. i heard that CM10 DOES NOT HAVE SAMSUNG'S PREMIUM FEATURES LIKE MULTI-WINDOW,S-NOTE etc. so can you tell which ROM i want to install?
I don't like CM because I think the camera is often very buggy and slow.
Also, there are often other issues - look at this list for CM 10.1 on the Galaxy S 3: known issues - look for example at TV Out, how it says "will never work."
CM does not have any Samsung features, no. The camera is awful in my opinion. I'm not even sure you can choose to save pictures to the external card - maybe you can do that nowadays, though I have tried many CM ROMs where you simply could not.
The S-Pen will still work but you will lose the S Note app itself of course, and Air View, gestures, multi window - you will lose all those things. You can still use the pen to draw and write with, there are many S-Note alternatives in the Play Store.
You will lose Samsung features like Smart Stay, the Samsung motion features... All that will be gone.
I definitely urge you to TRY some CyanogenMod based ROMs though and make your own decision. Some people love CM to death and prefer it to Samsung based ROMs. The only way you will know is by trying it out yourself!

Since its ur Uncle`s phone who might not be much comfortable with broken features, i suggest don't look at AOSP ROMS, these roms are only for people like u an me who can keep playing and flsahing roms with a CWM backup handy
I suggest either go for complete stock rom or a custom rom based on stok rom
Hit thanks If I helped, its free anyways
I have been running CM7 for a while and I am fairly happy with it. I seem to like the basic function over what I have see on other people's phones with either ICS or JB. So I want to ask what advantages or better functions would make me want to upgrade? Maybe better device support? I do notice that my wifi drops off a lot but I also have friend's with the SIII stock and they have the same issue.

ICS
>BETTER APP SUPPORT
>Face unlock
>Easier Folder management
>Better widget/app drawer
>Pinch-to-zoom functionality in the calendar
>Integrated screenshot capture
>Better voice integration and continuous, real-time speech to text dictation
>Better Contacts app
>Chrome syncing
>Built-in photo editor
>ANDROID BEAM!
>others....plus these are stock features. A custom rom will further improve things.
JB
>EVEN BETTER APP SUPPORT!!!
>BUTTERY SMOOTHNESS
>GOOGLE Now
>Expandable notifications
>Photosphere
>Gesture keyboard
>Lock screen widgets
These are just the main bullet points IMO there is no reason to stick with an old outdated OS. I used CM7 until ICS came out officially for our device. CM7 is based off GB which first came out in 2010! If you're wary of custom roms at least update officially and enjoy the most of android.
If your into flashing roms there are many stable ones running Google Now on ICS 4.0.4 if you are just looking for updated google apps. JB isn't officially out for out phones yet so the devs have done a good job of porting roms so we can use JB if you want to. I would check the threads on JB roms and decide which is best for you.
Thanks for help
Thanks for the insight. I am still on the fence but it is not like I can't revert after playing a bit, isn't that was a nand backup is for?

yeah. just make a backup and play around. If you are on cm7 i recommend upgrading to cm10.1, it only gets better.
Hey there, long time reader, first time poster, I've recently come into a t-mobile Samsung Galaxy S3 (SGH-T999) and I've installed the Pac-Man custom rom with CWM Touch 6.0.3.0 and I love the extreme amount of options in the settings and the immense tweaks and such, but I am not satisfied with the GUI, I was wondering if anyone knew of a rom that is more similar to the T999's stock GUI but has the customizing features of the Pac-man?

S3Rx for the TW look. Dandroid for the AOSP look on a TW base. That's as close as it gets.
Alright, thank you, i'm gonna check out those now, I mean I absolutely love the ability to color palette every feature with PacMan mod, but I dont like the dialer, call screen, or the lock screen, so I'm hoping that S3rx has some good customization. anywhoo, thanks for the response!
