Hello dear XDA, i need some help.
Had s2 before, i knew all karnels and roms and what goes great with what, but I am kinda lost
on what exactly to choose for my HOX, so heres my situation:
1. followed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2069904 to unlock bootloader, root and installed CWM (TWRP was not working for me for some reason, it was just stuck, couldent select anything or move with hardware keys at all)
2. installed this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1786696 , with its stock karnel
3. this works great, everything works, speed is great and this is what i wanted (i am fan of stock android)
My about phone screenshot:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/8two7crz8nfoafm/2013-06-28 08.44.15.png
What i exactly want is this:
1. stable karnel for cm 10.1 (if it exists) which will not screw anything
2. i want to keep "swipe on hardware keys" to unlock i love it,it is a karnel dependent, right?
3. i also want to keep blink hardware keys for notifications
4. a karnel that supports Extweaks (or something similar) so i can change volume levels and underclock when i want
5. wld like it to be fairly regular updated
So tell me guys, is there a karnel for CM i am using that will give me all that, and be regulary updated to work with latest nightlies from CM?
Ty alot for any help, loop.

Few n00b questions.
Firstly, how do i flash a nightly on my phone? lets say im running ofw 2.2 SEA edition? Do i follow the same procedure as if to flash RC1... do i also need to flash gapps similarly.
Secondly, are the links on quarxs' CM7 for defy thread up-to-date? or are there newer versions of gapps and nightlies floating around somewhere
Third, i have noticed that there is an issue with network and wi-fi when i flash cm7 RC1 over the nordic sbf. when i go back to official 2.2 SEA there is no hassle at all. Since i live in india i was wondering if that was the issue. I can easily take care of the network problem using "baseband switcher for defy" but it still doesnt help the wi-fi problem.
My question is.. will using the new BOOTSEA nightly solve this problem. I am assuming from the name is boot"SEA" im assuming its built southeastasia specific.
Fourth, ive used CM7 RC1 for a while and apart from the wifi issue i got problems with camera and video... it absolutely doesnt work, wether it be in potrait or landscape or whatever setting... the app just force closes. Any fixes for that.. ive got green lens.
please help!!! and i hope other similar questions can be added by members here so as to make this thread an FAQ for distressed users like me.
Thanks
Flash a Froyo ROM.
wipe all (data/cache/Davilk)
Test all works
Root your defy
Install 2d_init
Reboot twice (i dont know its necesary yet)
wipe all (its no necesary but for me is the only way works ok finaly the CM7)
Go into clockwork recovery. After reboot wait until led go blue then push vol down
Install zip from memory card (You must copy on a RCO o RC1)
Reboot
Test your phone
If you want, use same way for install nigthlys
sorry for my english
good look
Hello guys !
it's been two days now that i received my Wonder , and i've been noticing lags in 3D games like temple run and gt racing ! and even the app drawer doesn't run smooth for a 1.4 Ghz phone ! So Any ideas guys ?
im curently runing stock 2.3.6 with I8150XXKL3 base band !
thanks in advance !
HEYYYY these are the steps you need to take to make your phone madly fast like mine.
-STOCK LAUNCHER is horrible change it to "Go launcher" or Something else trust me thats very important.
-Go launcher is good if you have the ice cream sandwich theme with it to make your phone look nicer.
-Also dont supercharge script because it makes the phone more unstable.
-No custom Roms, keep stock because is very stable.
-You need to root it.
-Add in clockwork recovery mod
-Flash the xxml8 Kernel for better battery life and 3d games
-You need SetCpu or something like it to force your phone to be always 1.4ghz if you want.
Say 245mhz-768mhz when screen off
Then 245mhz-1400mhz screen on this will make your battery last longer by up to 3+ hours.

Good advice, I'd just like to add a few bits:
-The V6 supercharger script (from RC8+) is very stable and makes the stock ROM and stock launcher fluid, not unstable. Installing a 3rd party launcher will not fix memory management problems in stock ROM and will also lag over time.
-YES root the phone and uninstall all the bloatware apps from Samsung. This will free up memory making the phone faster.
-While I've never used the XXLM8 kernel for gaming, I do know gaming is far superior on Arco's CM9. If you care more about gaming but don't need a working camera urgently consider flashing CM9. In any case as a new user, spend time to flash CWM 5 and make a full backup before flashing any kernel or custom ROM.
Sent from my Wonder
of course the stock rom lags!! Use cyanogenmod 9 for galaxy wonder!! It never lags
Thanks to all of you !
Right now the only thing that stoped me from rooting is that i dont have any experience and it looks to me a bit complicated .
So what is the most simple way to do it ? Also i didnt want to flash cm9 because the camera is important for me , and i want to know what's the best rom with minor problems ?

Let me help you
Now first of all. Rooting isn't complicated at all, you will be going to google and search: "how to root samsung galaxy w recovery mode", then you'll find a random website with instructions and the links,
1)after you have downloaded the zip file for rooting, put it into internal sd card, turn off phone, boot into recovery mode (volume up+home+power button)
when samsung logo appears, release power button, hold the rest of them, wait until a box and an android comes out, the press "option" button. Screen grays out and wait until recovery menu appears
2) choose install zip from sd card (navigate using volume up and down, home button as confirm/selection) then choose the zip file you have downloaded. Wait until it finishes, then reboot phone, you are rooted.
If you wanna flash a rom without increasing the count in download mode, using clockworkmod recovery, you'll need to go to google again, search how to install clockworkmod 5 on samsung galaxy w, choose a random link with instructions. Follow them, you'll need ODIN downloader and the ops files and the clockworkmod 5 file, they will be included in your download links you find. Follow their instructions, if it stays on setting up connection with phone while flashing cwm 5, close the ODIN, turn off phone, go to download mode again, use another USB port and try flashing cwm again, it happened to me once, and now it works
cwm is for flashing different mod and roms, you need it for everything. But flashing cwm cannot unroot afterwards, you'll not be able to use the unroot zip to unroot as cwm is installed, you will lose your warranty. Think twice before acting.
disclaimer: The above instructions are simply advice, if they cause any damage to your phone, for example brick, or whatever damage, I am not responsible.

if you don't want to flash cm9 because of its camera problem, you can try Rebel Rom 3.0 first, it is very alike with android 4.0, but still gb of course.
But the camera problem in cm9 is somehow repaired, not totally, it is still very broken and buggy, and it's still not good.
BTW, remember to back up your current rom before flashing anything, but you can back up nothing before flashing cwm5, that's why you lose your warranty. You can choose to flash stock rom back afterwards. I have personally not tried this, as this solution has a risk of bricking too...so better not restore stock rom back.
Hey dude. Grats on ur phone
here is what I did to get rid of the lag.
1- root
2- install busybox
3- run v6 supercharger
The phone will be lag free after that even with "touchwiz" launcher. And will remain stable since custom roms while giving great performence, made my phone unstable
Have fun

Hi fayosi,
can I flash xxlm8 kernel with Bionic Cow 2 ?
Or the cow kernel is good enough?
Hi all!
I have bought a HTC Desire phone over the internet and it seems to work fine but there is a slight problem. I absolutely hate the Evervolv ROM. I am very nooby with the technical terms (meaning I dont even know what flashing means... etc... ) I have spent several hours looking for a way to install a normal android ROM (just the most basic one, so that my home screen looks like the one in the picture of this model - I don't know whether it's gingerbread or jellybean or something else, as I said I don't understand those terms)
So can anyone please help me either to get rid of Evervolv or to install the stock android ROM? :crying:
I would really appreciate your help!
First of all, saying that you hate the Evervolv rom is quite disrespectful to the developers who have spent lots of time trying (and succeeding) to get 4+ roms running on the desire.
So by the sounds of things, what you want is to flash a sense gingerbread rom? First check to see that youve got a custom recovery installed (you probably will). Turn the phone off, then hold volume down + power to get into hboot. Then wait a few seconds and scroll to RECOVERY using the volume rockers and use power to select it.
Let me know what recovery you have.
Hi,
if you want to find factory android images (we call it Stock roms), you can take a look here. They are windows binaries (exe). So you can try this. Or if you want to try some other rom, you can do it wia recovery how Chromium_ said. It's no as hard as it seemes to be .
Hello everyone and greetings from Finland
First i must say that this is my first android phone so i am a total newbie.
I have the Galaxy Ace 2 GT-I8160 and its updated with the Kies program from gingerbread to jellybean 4.1.2.
After the upgrade the internet is very slow (i dont use wifi), sometimes i cant get the connection at all and overall the phone is not working properly.
I send the phone to service when i have warranty left. The circuit card was changed to a new one but the phone acts the same way, i have also made factory reset but nothings helps. I dont also have many apps etc. installed so that cant be the reason.
What do you guys think would be the best solution ? Internet was working better with gingerbread so should i downgrade back to gb or maybe try a custom rom
Many thanks in advance guys
About downgrade to GB i also think about it every day, because it works best with GB. But I'm already used to JB. If you wish to stay at stock 4.1.2 try Kyrillos V9, great rom, ore Team Canjica CM 10.1 those two are bugfree as far as I know, maybe it will help.
Thanks for your reply !
I forgot to say that i use my phone almost for basic use sms, internet, photos, music editing , gmail etc. and of course i want to try different apps. But Galaxy ace 2 has so low memory that it barely runs even for basic use
I would like to keep jellybean 4.1.2 and try a rom but it has to be stable so i dont have to panic if something goes wrong
nusko_x mentioned Kyrillos rom and Team Canjica CM 10.1, are they stable and easy to use for a newbie like me ?
There are sooo many roms out there that i get confused

you can get cyanogenmod 10.1 for a really bugfree and smooth experience and yes you can always swap your memory to get rid of the low memory issue
@NangaParbat75: Do you get HSDPA when browsing? (You see a "H" in the statusbar when you have HSDPA connection).
Thanks guys !
I will try the cyanogenmod 10.1 , isnt this the right link for install http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452315 ?
But before that i have questions. I have searched about what to do before installing the new rom but i have got mixed answers or then i havent understood it.
So, after rooting the phone i back up data etc. and for me especially back up the whole rom i have before installing the new one.
But regarding this "backup" progress, in what particular order is it done, do you guys maybe have a good link ?
Then a stupid question about the SD card , all i have is the microsd that came with the phone when i bought it. Is it enough ?
@Frankie73 , i have the "H" in the statusbar when surfing so its ok i think ? Here where i live the connection is not so good but it worked quite good before upgrading..

OK, when you see the "H" then the connection speed should be ok. So maybe the problem is the browser itself? I noticed that some browsers, that worked very well for me on GB, didn't do well on JB. Dolphin for example. So maybe just try another browser. For me the best is Next Browser, but there are a lot to try out / choose from.
@Frankie73 i have now nextbrowser but its the same and i have tried many others, thanks anyway.
I have done more research and if i have understood it right the Team Canjica cyanogenmod 10.1 doesnt require root access ?
So basically i only have to unlock bootloader to flash the custom recovery and get nandroid backup, and then i am ready to install cyanogenmod ?
Is this safe to do , i mean think if something goes wrong and i loose the nandroid backup ? Then the phone is gone ..
AFAIK you don't need root for CM. Just install temporary CWM (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2141395) and you should be able to flash CM10.1. And yes, I think it's save when you do a backup, although I never had to use it myself since I never had any problems when flashing CM10.1 or CM11. Besides backup you can always use odin to flash the official JB.
Thanks for your reply !
Now i know that CM has root-access but i am still confused how to back up the whole device if something goes wrong.
So please, what is the best way to do the whole backup ? @Frankie73 , what do you mean with "use odin to flash the official JB" ?
And then there is the Bootloader thing. Should i unlock it ?
Can i try non-rooted roms in the future even if Bootloader is locked ?
-I dont think our bootloader is locked :/
-Do a nandroid backup lol
-Odin is a windows app for samsung devices to flash stock firmware files :/
Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk
Yeah, as Teddy said, no need to unlock bootloader on our device.
And what I meant was that if anything goes seriously wrong and you can't restore your backup, you still have the option to flash the stock Samsung JB through Odin.
Please hit the "Thanks" button if my posts were helpful for you
Sorry guys, now i hit the "Thanks" button for you !
I still have issues to clear out so please be patience.
Ok, so no bootloader unlocking.
At very first i will do a Nandroid Backup via Recovery and ROM Manager, but doesnt it require your phone to be rooted ?
Regarding the nandroid backup, it will be created on the SD-card , but does my phone have a SD-card ?
I havent bought any separate SD-card , the phone has a microsd card that came with it when i bought the phone.

Just open the slot on the side of your Ace2 and check if there's a sd card inside If not go and get one - you will need it if you will use custom ROMs.
I don't know if root is needed for doing a full backup but rooting from stock JB is really very simple:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2139263
It's done in less then 5 minutes.
Ok, i will buy a 8gb Sd-card, that should be enough
So, I will do the following:
1. Root the stock JB
2. Make a Nandroid Backup via Recovery and ROM Manager
3. Install Cyanogenmod 10.1 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2452315
Is this correct ?
1. Root not needed for cwm to work
2. No theres a temp cwm in dev forums. Dont use rom manager
3. Btw backups are usually 800mb-1gb+ so make sure you have space
Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk
I am confused
So what is the difference between permanent and temporary CWM ?
The words 'permanent' and 'temporary' are in dictionaries :/
Perm- forever(until you change)
Temp- stock recovery installed so you must flash temp cwm everytime you want to use it.
Sent from my GT-I8160 using Tapatalk
Thanks again for reply !
So with temp cwm i also get the nandroid backup ?
Lets say that something goes wrong and i want my stock jellybean back, what do i have to do then ?
Yes you can backup with temp cwm
Flash stock jb via odin

First of all I would like to say I'm new to modding or hacking so if someone is willing to give a step by step on installing a kernel that would be great I seen other posts about a cwm recovery I'm assuming that is referring to clockwork manager. Anyway I want to install a kernel cause my tasker app won't allow me to add a variable to turn my tab on when plugged in and off when unplugged since I have it mounted in my dash so essientally on when car is on and off when not. I was looking at elemental x. Anyway any help would be great.

Check out the Elemental X thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/google-nexus-5/orig-development/kernel-elementalx-n5-0-44-t2519607
Though as far as I can see (at least this version) seems to be only for the N5. So worth checking out because you can do some serious mischief to your device if you install an incompatible kernel (as I found out with my S3).

If you have CWM installed download the kernel to your device, make sure you use the correct version for the os you are running. Boot into recovery install the zip. Reboot, wait a few minutes and do another reboot. Make a backup (nandroid) before flashing a custom kernel.
Also, in the kernel's thread it says that before flashing ElementalX, you should always make sure you have your ROM's stock kernel. :good:
Ok well I dont have CWM installed since I dunno how to do it lol god I'm such a tard. I have the nexus 7 32GB 2013 edition. And I know NOTHING as to how to do this. ALL I really want my damn tablet to do is turn off and i turn off my car and turn on when I turn my car ON. I bought tasker and that turned out to be a waste of money cause the functions I need isnt supported maybe cause it needs to be rooted I dunno. But I need someone to walk me through this step by step and even better have pictures like a whole tutorial. from installing a Manager to installing a full kernel.
Also sounds like elemental x is a nightmare if you gotta do all this stuff to get it installed.
HELP!!:good:
