How to fix clicky home button?? SOS - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I have a clicky home button. It kinda is like a two stage button. Its very clicky and not soft and smooth like the power button and volume buttons. If I were to describe the sound it almost sounds like there is a little piece of sand stuck under the button and every time you press it, the button hits it. How would I go about fixing this? I bought the phone off craigslist so could I just go into the T-Mobile store and get a replacement? Or is there a way to fix it? Any help would be AWESOME

That's the noise the button makes.
Seriously?

No it is not smart ass. I've had other Samsung devices with the same button. It is not how its supposed to sound. And it does not happen every time I press it. Usually on the left or right side it does

Mine makes a clicky sound. Everyone I know with a S4 had the same click sound.

In my opinion the build quality is inconsistent. I've bought 3 of them and one had a defective power button (i.e., recessed slightly and difficult to press). If you think something is wrong with your home key go to the store and compare to their demo phones. If there is a real problem with your phone they will tell you your options for getting warranty service.

I just checked 3 different m919s, they all make a click sound on the home key. the power button is mushy and quiet on all 3, and the volume buttons are just in between if you can hear beyond the beeping.
if you're sure something has creeped in there, have you tried taking some dust off to your phone?

How can it be the same button on a DIFFERENT Samsung device?
SOS!!!!!!!!

My girlfriend S4 has the same problem but my S4 is fine. I guess there's no fix.

I've got a little home button sticker on mine that came with my Spigen case. Doesn't really make much of a click.

Had this on my 2nd one. Its like the button kinda gets stuck a bit then it clicks. It just started doing it. My 3rd replacement is fine. Hopefully it stays that way.

Back button

The back button making a noise when pressing? Anyone having the same problem? Oh the button seams to be kinda lose? Like the other ones are stiff the back button soft?

I've had the noise a few times, it went away after blowing hard in the gap between the button. Guess it was a bit of dirt or something. I find my back button a little bit looser than the others, guess it's because it's the button I use the most?

No strange sounds, but my menu button is seriously soft now. Probably through over use.
The buttons on my x10 went the same, but never got any worse.

My home button is looser than the other two, you can shoogle it a bit.
But it works ok and sounds fine.

Do home buttons where out?

I think my power button might be where ing out. It was smooth and silent and was easy to click when I bought it. Now it is some what hard to click ( it needs more force ), and it makes a clicking sound that does not sound natural. Have you experienced this with the dinc 2 or with any phone you have used. Does the home button just get harder to use after a few months?
If you think there is something wrong with my phone, should send back to HTC for fixing (after I unroot it)?

[Q] Loop Issue

All right. I just received a Samsung Galaxy S2 T-Mobile (White) from a friend.
It doesn't boot up to the Stock Android. It's not rooted it's completely stock.
When you start it up it just goes to the Samsung Logo Screen then into a Samsung Android 4G screen in which the loading bar gets a lil over halfway and it just turns off and restarts the process. I'm not sure whether it's the power button issue i've been seeing in the past. Or if it's something wrong with the motherboard power button area.
I am also providing a video I recorded just to see what happens when I put the battery inside an then press the power button.
I was wondering if anyone could give me any things to try to fix it or a possible solution as I would like to fix this issue and root the phone.
http://youtu.be/Ud4bb12gARw
Youtube of putting battery in and powering up.. An how the boot goes.
Is it constantly vibrating in your hand as it reboots? If so then most likely it's the power button
You could try circling around the power button with a pin. Blow it out then hit it with an eraser (or any large rubber item). That worked for me,

Mod for power through volume button

Hey guys,
My friend spilled grand marnier on phone and now my power button doesn't work. I'm on a ROM that doesn't have screen wake by volume buttons, but is there a mod to put this in, or an app to use instead? I'm afraid to flash without a working power button and my wife's upgrade is in march so I'll have to tough it out till she gets her new phone and I take my incredible back. Thanks to anyone with any suggestions. I greatly appreciate it.

Something similar happened to me when it rained and the phone got drenched. The safest route is to use a hair dryer near the power button wait for it to dry out from the inside then try again. The contact button in the power strip doesn't work when wet.

Yeah I was going to but grand mariner is really syrupy and I think that's the major problem. This has been a problem for the past couple weeks, and been getting progressively worse. Now it won't work at all. Thanks though for the suggestion.

Try cleaning the contact off with a qtip and some rubbing alcohol

Changing Rom's can also be an option.
But you can also try using many apps to turn screen on or off by touching screen or waving hand over proximity sensor.
Eg.
I use:
PGM aka touch control:
Wake screen up with double tap or swipe up like BB10.
Screen off:
Program pie button to turn off screen.
Thank you both for your suggestions. I will try both of them.

[Q] Remap power button???

Any way to remap the power button to the home button? My mom dropped her phone and every once in a while it'll just get stuck in a loop until she smacks the phone and the power button kinda fixes it self for a little bit at least. Any way I can remap the power button to maybe the home button?
I believe you can. A little bit of googling will find you a guide.

I looked on Google thru and typed xda after wards to narrow the search. Nothing was detailed enough. I figured its in the use/seckeys if I remember right, but its been 6 months since I played with the insides of the s3.

Although other properties such as Power Menu can be remapped to Home button, When the phone is completely turned off, bootloader won't respond to anything else. Better have it replaced. If you open the phone, it may be easier to reseat the spring.
