[FIX] Ting APNs For all Ting Users - 5-12-2014 - Sprint LG Optimus G

For all Ting users having issues with mms, sms, and lte using aosp/aokp/cm/eos/pac/pa/bs/modified stock roms.
If you don't know what Ting is or are not a Ting subscriber you do not need this for any reason.
If you are a Ting user you will need the Ting APNs for LTE and MMS.
These Fixes are not phone specific. Should work on all Ting capable Devices.
FOR BEST RESULT: INSERT INTO ROM BEFORE FLASHING!

V8 for 4.3 octhrope lite apn v8
PLEASE POST SUCCESS or FAILURES! (Rom, Radio, APN)
IF THERE ARE ANY TING USERS OUT THERE WITH WORKING MMS ON AOSP ROMS - PLEASE SEND ME YOUR APNS-CONF.XML!!! (/system/etc/)
It would be greatly appreciated!
Big THANKS to bigfdaddy2, tabormeister, VoluntaryMan, and poo706!!!
Thanks to all who have submitted information or data!
REMEMBER! Always Backup Apns before flashing. Flash at your own risk. hopefully this helps others.
I am not affiliated with Ting; other than being a customer, Ting has yet to,(or may never),endorse or acknowledge these apns.

Notes:
[5-20-2014] - Updated 4.4 Apns to smaller format.
[11-1-2013] - Added Lite roms for both v7 and v8. v7 is 4.2 and 4.1, v8 is 4.3.
[10-30-2013] - Did some fiddling with making a universally accepted apn. I usually test everything before I upload it. That being said this is a test version I haven't used yet...
[9-23-2013] - New installer script courtesy of VoluntaryMan. Implemented as hotfix.
[9-20-2013] - Injecting the APNs into the rom before flashing seems to help. In my experience the system lost the apns after the first reboot and flashing them again made them stick.
[9-9-2013] - If its still not working, LGNPST the Teeny Original bin then the Teeny Alt Bin SLB Stack. Do one, the phone restarts; then do the other.
[8-27-2013] I am going to try to assemble a Frankenstein's Monster APN with every Sprint/Ting APN I can find and give that a shot too. So if the lights start to flicker you'll know why...
Unsuccessful so far...
[8-23-2013] update: Pulled the APN Stock files out of the ZVB rom... 3 different apns; looks like US, EU, KR.
ZVB Stock Deodex APNS
[8-23-2013]I'm going to try to pull the APN from a stock rooted phone at some point to compare with the clean, and custom ones. If anyone has one just pm a link. thanks.
[8-7-2013] Also am having some success with reflashing the jb modem. gives me the you've lost data error when im in the bathroom and loose data but not sending multiple sms messages.
[7-12-2013] If you use a Custom User Agent, (messages > settings > custom user agent) dont use iphone as Ting does not support them.
[7-2-2013] Some Ad Blocking programs will block mms. idk why the phones apns are not excluded from the shiz but adding your apns to the white list or removing the app should fix it.
manual fixes
fix 1
Open Voice Dialer, say "Open APN's"
Change all http://mms.sprintpcs.com to http://mms.plspictures.com
Select one of the profiles with the correct MMSC in it.
Reboot
fix 2
Open your root explorer, navigate to /system/etc and find apns-conf.xml
Copy it to another location
Change all instances of http://mms.sprintpcs.com to http://mms.plspictures.com
Copy and paste it back into /system/etc - overwrite old file
Reboot

That's basically the ting APN file above. I didn't have success pulling the apns off of a stock based jb ROM. Maybe if I new the location... I could just adb into it and pull the config file out.
I may be incorrect here, but it feels like there might be another setting somewhere... Like a MMS only setting hanging out.
Also bumped up to 4.3, when doing the open apns trick it shows no apns. Which is strange because I flashed them and the Lte is working.

I've noticed that too, on the GS3 on Ting. I haven't checked if my LTE and picture mail are working, I've just been using stock sprint apns for the last few days.
If you mean the location of the apn-config.xml, it's in /system/etc and one doesn't need to be rooted on stock to read/copy it.

I meant another place where the phone holds apns or settings for apks.
I noticed there is an extra hyphen in all of the stock apns before the <apns. I wonder if it makes a difference.

That's interesting...maybe LG stock reads apns differently for some reason? Oddly just flashed to 4.3 this morning w/BaNkS gapps, wiped cache/dalvik/system, and on boot LTE worked fine. I haven't tested mms yet though
I didn't mean to sound condescending, whoops my bad.

really? i always have to flash a apn list otherwise it wont get lte. I've been testing handcent again today because it has a place to enter custom mms apns... still not sending. Talking with the peeps on IRC, mms is a crap shoot on all aosp roms. they were saying 50% of the time it doesn't work. which makes this job even harder. IDK, maybe there is more to the apn settings than we can see or maybe the stock rom calls home or can access something differently.

I know, it's weird, but both devices I've flashed 4.3 on I wiped system (in twrp, assuming it does a decent job?) and lte worked on boot. I'm actually kind of confused about it, but also not complaining.
Maybe gosms? I've heard it also has custom mms settings. The most curious thing to me is that the phone thinks it's sending mms but they never actually are received by the other end.

No way! Maybe LG stock has apn code baked into the messaging app somehow then? I'm tempted to just download an lg zip and dig around. OR do you think it has something to do with the EFS partitions? Digging around in EFS backups and a stock zip.

im thinking its buried in one of the partitions... but the lg message apk is 3 times the size of the aosp one. could be either. apk would prob be easier to go through.

AOKP JB (And Possibly CM10) LTE Canada - Issue + Workaround

Update: Saw some reports about Cyanogen fixing Canadian LTE issue in his latest CM10 build! Now to wait for AOKP JB to follow suit.
Hey Guys,
So I've been hearing a lot of Canadian LTE Issues on JB Roms such as CM10 and AOKP JB. Although I did have 4G (LTE) on CM10 when I first flashed it, straight from AOKP ICS no data wipe just Cache & Dalvik, my 4G icon disappeared after a couple hours so I thought I was subject to the same issue as all the other Canadians. Not a big deal, JB outweighed having LTE at least for now.
Since AOKP JB was just released last night (Can't thank you guys enough Task + Ktoonsez), I immediately jumped back on AOKP (JB) and happy to report that I do have LTE working on a Canadian carrier (Rogers).
I didn't do anything special, although slightly risky, I'm sure if it works for me it will work for you. Just to be clear, I'll run you guys through my exact steps:
1) I started on CM10.
2) CWM recovered back to AOKP ICS (I did this just to see if my LTE was still working on AOKP, it was.)
3) Did all my pre-Flash setup (Titanium Backup, SMS/Whatsapp backup).
4) Nandroid of course.
5) Clear Cache/Dalvik (I know Task said to do a full Wipe, but I ran into no issues from AOKP ICS -> CM10 without Data wipe, so I took the risk for AOKP ICS -> AOKP JB too, so far no issues.)
6) Flashed AOKP JB (I assume this would work the same for CM10 too.)
7) Flashed JB GAPPS (and then JB Inverted GAPPS )
8) Reboot.
That's it really. Im still running amazing on AOKP JB, no issues so thank you Task and Ktoon, you guys do amazing work.
As a final note: I am extremely sorry if you run into any bugs with the JB Roms, a Full Wipe is ALWAYS recommended if you run into unexpected bugs. Also, if you experience boot loops, then that's what the Nandroid is for. Of course most people are running these JB Roms as a Daily Driver, they really are that good. But, keep in mind they are also still considered "Previews" so don't expect 100% functionality.
Plus most importantly, this is just a procedure to get LTE working on JB Roms for Canadian phones, if you run into any other errors then you probably should start clean, you have been warned.. I've only been running AOKP JB for a couple hours now, but I can say I haven't noticed any issues at all yet + LTE with a Rogers phone.
TLDR - How to get LTE working on Jellybean Roms, on Canadian S3 (I747M)
Warning: This Method utilizes a No Data-Wipe Flash, use this at your own risk. But, ATM, this is probably the only way to get LTE on JB for Canadian Carriers/S3s until the Network Preference Setting is implemented.
1) Start from an AOSP ICS ROM where you had LTE working. Recover back or flash an AOSP ICS Rom. (This is important as I don't recommended a Non-Wipe flash from a Non-AOSP Rom to an AOSP Rom, especially ICS -> JB)
2) Make sure you have your LTE APN set for your Canadian carrier.
3) Make sure you set Network Mode: LTE Preferred
4) Nandroid!
5) Wipe Cache
6) Wipe Dalvik Cache
7) Flash AOKP JB or CM10
8) Flash GAPPS
9) Reboot
There you have it, it worked for me and I sincerely hope it works for all of my fellow Canadians as well!
Good luck everyone!
all of this...
5) Wipe Cache (x3)
6) Wipe Dalvik Cache (x3)
is useless and unnecessary just so you know. it does absolutely nothing. just saying.

Now, the only problem would be if I wanted to switch between 3G, H+, and LTE, would I lose LTE until I flash to ICS and back?
This needs some further testing.

Oddly enough, LTE was working the first time I flashed 7/25 CM10, but when I wiped and flashed again, the network types menu disappeared. I can still manage to change the network mode to lte temporarily I'm the *#*#4636#*#* menu, but the setting doesn't stick and it goes back to WCDMA preferred on a reboot.
Any other Canadians still experiencing problems with LTE and the latest CM10?

Finally convinced myself to install JB, and I've got LTE working on a clean install.
As usual, just add the Rogers LTE APN.
After a reboot, my 4G symbol was back, and I've confirmed LTE speeds of 24/22 (not bad).
Here's the info:
APN - ltemobile.apn
MMSC - http://mms.gprs.rogers.com
MMS proxy - 10.128.1.69
MMS port - 80
APN type - *
All other values are left as default.

I tried your method, i was able to get lte speeds on AOKP ICS but when I went over to AOKP JB without a wipe I lost my LTE speeds, it just stayed on 3G. What could I have missed?
Not sure if this will help, but when I upgraded from a previous cm10 build to the current without wiping, my existing lte APN (that I added before) would not pick up; I'd select it and it would automatically switch back to the default rogers APN.
I fixed the problem by adding another lte APN (different name than the existing one, named "lte") and it worked. I used the same settings above, with the exception of "apn type", which I did not set.

I just tried creating a duplicate lte apn on AOKP after doing a full wife from stock. no luck. still no lte after reboot.
There must be a cause for this problem. Without figuring that out, it will be harder to find a solution.
I wish I could use CM10 or AOKP. I find that my connection has trouble staying even on H and usually reverts to 3g.
Oh well.
@OP
Curious to ask which AOKP build did you use when you dirty flashed and have you experimented with some of the later builds

Hey Bakasam, sorry for the late reply. I've successfully "dirty flashed" every AOKP JB build one after the other since the beginning keeping LTE along the way. I have noticed that it is still possible to lose LTE while on AOKP from the following:
1) Flashing Ktoon's kernel caused me to lose LTE.
2) Turning on Navigational Softkeys from Rom Control + Reboot caused me to lose LTE.
Still, as long as you have a working version of a JB AOSP rom (CM10 or AOKP) with LTE on, so far it has seemed safe to dirty flash over without problems. Keep note I have not tweaked my phone's system settings much so maybe that's why it has been so safe.

If you want LTE on AOKP JB, you're gonna have to follow my instructions in the OP and not do a "full wipe". I haven't flashed CM10 since the first build, so I can't confirm if it has the Network Preferences setting to set LTE. Most likely, the problem isn't APN for Canadian phones, it's the fact that we are missing the Network Preferences option (at least in AOKP we still are, not sure about CM10.)

If you followed the OP steps, by not full wiping (dirty flash), I'm not sure why you would have to touch APN settings at all? For me I haven't even touched the Networks setting section ever, but I'll still have LTE (because my LTE APN was selected before the dirty flash in the previous build).

I'm planning to flash back to CM10 to check it out either this build or the next, I'll let you know how it goes. EDIT: Flashed 8/10 CM10 and indeed there is the "Network Preferences" option and choosing LTE gave me LTE fine. Looks to be good on CM10, now hopefully AOKP follows eventually..
just an update.
I've managed to get LTE working on the latest CM10 build (8/8 v3). All I had to do was change some APN settings and it works! I did a clean install with the ROM.
I ran it all day and did lose data at one point. I just had to turn off and on LTE in the bearer option and it was back again.
LTE works great on CM10, (08/10) , i noticed CM10 has Network Mode , hence why LTE works great.I switched to CM10 after being with AOKP since Captivate days.
Just to give an update, i asked Task650 to see if there are any plans to add "Network Mode" and he did not confirm mentioning the AOKP ROM currently only supports AT&T, so for the time being, if you are in Canada and like your LTE, try CM10, i have been running it since Friday with no issue.
edit: nm sorry ahh
I was having this issue with the AOKP rom and I missed the option to select from the Network settings for LTE. CM10 is much better as there is a configuration option I can select in the notification drawer to turn on or off LTE. Works great on my Telus Galaxy S3.
I fixed the issue when I stop using AOKP since all other roms worked fine on my phone even with all ATT roms..

I asked that question long time ago, and his answer was very arrogant and condecendent as far as us being in Canada. Something like "if you want LTE to work develop your own ROM", reason why I stopped using the ROM, any other ROMS work just fine.. with LTE and Network Mode...
Currently very happy with http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889449 and Ktoonz Kernel .. very good battery life lots of features.. in both ROM and ktoonz kernel

[Q] HTC Evo 4g Cyanogenmod 7 STOPPED receiving MMS

I know starting new threads is a risky thing here, but I feel my situation is peculiar/unique enough to justify the risk.
I've been running CM7 and using ChompSMS (donated) ever since using Android, many devices ago. This is the first time something like this has ever happened. A couple days ago, my phone stopped downloading MMSs. I can send myself a message (text with a subject) and the notification that the message is waiting for me will come in, but it will not download. I called Sprint and got the code to reprovision the phone, so I downloaded a stock rom and punched it in. The stock rom would download messages just fine. Switching back to CM7 (I tried multiple nightly builds, as well as the most recent stable build), the messages stopped coming in again. I googled all over the place and the best solutions I found was to delete "telephony.db" or to try "APN backup & restore," restoring the APN with settings that worked for somebody else. Every time I restored the APN, it would just remove all the entries. I tried to restore defaults (which brought back a "Sprint" one), reboot, no dice.
The only solution I've gotten to thus far was to download Go SMS Pro, which can download the MMS, after the notification has already come in and I go in to hit download manually. Yes, this gets the job done, but it's just a band-aid over the problem. I'm mostly curious just what exactly caused this, why it persists over every CM install (but not the stock rom), and why I can't seem to find any way to fix it.
A quick update to this, in case anybody has been keeping tabs. This problem spans across multiple roms. I've since installed an MIUI ICS rom, more versions of CM7, a very buggy version of CM9 ported, and another gingerbread rom, all of which kept the problem going. The only rom that works is the most recent rooted stock rom I downloaded. I REALLY don't want to go back to stock if I can help it. Any ideas now? Would flashing new radios help this? If so, I have to be S-OFF to do so, correct?
Thanks for all your help, those that do!
been having the save issue with MMS but I use Handcent not chompSMS, it also wont download using the Roms stock SMS app. it seems to happen on any ASOP rom that I've tried. but any sense based roms seem to work fine. goSMSpro also works for me if I manually hit download (thanks cause that's better than nothing). I have tried to flash new radios, along with flashing CM with a formatted mem car. and nothing seems to work. so If you find a resolution please keep this updated. good luck
I've been having the same problem for the past couple weeks with CM7. I've tried everything the Google suggested, changing the APN, turning off auto-retrieve, disabling MMS with Sprint and re-enabling it after a while, etc., nothing worked. I tried a few different roms too. I can't get MMS to work on any rom unless it's sense based.

Doing this won't cause any other issues? I really want to get this to work because I'm having the same issue on a CM7-based rom.

It says in the first post, we tried deleting telephony.db
Some of us have tried flashing multiple fresh roms, which I believe would delete telephony.db
Mms won't work unless it's a sense based rom.

I run into the same issue on Deck's Reloaded occasionally. More often than not, though, MMS works. Have never bothered troubleshooting it since it's hardly ever an issue.

Same problem
I'm having the same problem with CM7 on Evo 4G. I can get it to work with sense based rom and goSMS (thank you for posting that, I was about to bail on CM7 completely). Stock messenger and handcent won't work. I saw on another thread someone said it would work until flashing gapps, but I haven't tried that. I even tried backing up APN from a sense rom that would work, and restoring it to CM7, as well as deleting telephony.db, nothing works.
Yeaaahhh MMS can either go 1 of 2 ways. Either you try to get it to work and it works fine, like I just did on my evo, OR *nothing* you do seems to make it work.
I should know, I spent about 6 months earlier this year (on and off) getting MMS to work on my HTC Hero.
With that said, the first step is to make sure you're putting in the right APN info.
Start with deleting /data/data/com.android.providers.telephony/databases/telephony*
Next, make sure you have the correct APN info in /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
You'll probably have to either sysrw in android terminal or "adb remount" on pc/mac/linux/whatever to make changes to that file.
This one should work on ICS/JB:
google sprint apns-conf.xml
Should be the last one, searchco.de
Just change the version to 6 if you want to use it on GB.
Reboot to make the system create a new telephony.db from /system/etc/apns-conf.xml
If that doesn't work, you may need more apn changes, framework-res.apk changes, mms.apk changes, etc. etc.
Currently my phone will only download mms that is 200kb or less with either the stock messaging app or handcent. I'm going to try some of the trouble shooting steps on this thread and see if anything works.
If anyone has a fix they know of that fixes this particular problem please let me know.

I have deleted that telephony file.
Nothing works for me.
Its weird cuz when my girlfriend sends me panty pics, it works (she's on an iPhone)
But when my mom sends me pics of my dog, it doesn't let me download. (She has HTC evo 3g)
Im on cm7.2 nightly (newest) w Mason g .15 kernel.
I really don't get why this happens.
Also, another friend of mine has an iPhone 4s like my lady, but I don't get his pics

Still not working. This is driving me nuts. I don't know what happened. I just lost the ability to receive MMS all of the sudden. Can anybody offer any help?

My girlfriend is having the same problem as everyone else when it comes to MMS. She has my old Evo 4G running CM 7.1. I wiped the cache and dalvik cache, updated the PRL and profile with a sense ROM, but none of this fixed the problem. I can confirm that Go SMS Pro will download picture mail that neither the standard messaging app or Handcent could (they both gave the error "download of message New Message from SENDER was unsuccessful"). Hopefully a fix can be found soon. BTW, thanks for the tip omegastu!

[FIX?] APN fix for MMS (4.2.2)

Hey all,
I've had mixed results when trying to get an APN that works. I'm running LiquidSmooth RC2 (4.2.2) and have had issues with sending MMS. I've tried both APN files that I have found on XDA for Sprint.
Thread number 1 (post #2):
File name: apns-20120808101544.xml
APN's included: 16 (only Sprint APNs)
Didn't work for me.
Thread number 2:
File name: sprint-mms-fixed-apns.xml
APN's included: 4 (only Sprint APNs)
Didn't work for me.
Neither of these two APN xml files worked for me.
When scouring my SDcard, I found an APN backup file that I had created (from the original filename, I had created it Feb 11th, 2013). I don't remember creating it or ever flashing it before, but I decided to try it out.
File name: Topherk's Fixed APN - 2013-02-11.xml
APN's included: 83 (A whole slew of carriers APNs)
Worked for me.
Now, when I started to look more carefully into the differences between these APNs, I started to get confused (as anyone who is first looking at APN files should!).
When comparing the apns-20120808101544.xml file with my "working file," the Sprint-related APNs were identical. Since I can send MMS on the working file and not the apns-20120808101544.xml file, it leads me to believe that I'm actually sending files through one of the other carrier's APNs. I don't even know if this is possible.
So I guess my "Fix" is working, but I don't really know why. You can try it if you like. Just follow the instructions in the first thread I linked.
Also, last thing, I haven't been able to find this 83-strong APN file anywhere on XDA. If someone has posted it before me, please let me know and I'll give them a proper link (I'm not trying to steal anyone's thunder).
I'm glad this worked for you and I'm not trying to debunk your method entirely I'm just saying this fix along with the other two did not work for me. The only thing that ended up fixing my problem was changing LTE/CDMA/EvDo to CDMA/Evdo auto I ended up restoring my original APN just for safety

No worries. The MMS issue with 4.2.2 is really finicky and different fixes work for different people/phones (that's why I had the ? in the title). I'm glad you got your phone working. Thanks for adding what worked for you, it really helps when people are searching for solutions (hopefully people do searches!).
I'd also like to add that I followed advice in another thread that said to do a clean flash of LiquidSmooth (It was on the LiquidSmooth ROM thread, so I can't say it'll work for your ROM) and it actually worked! MMS is sending just fine and I restored all my data with TIBU, however I skipped the file with the name "Phone/Messaging Sto...25 (SMS/MMS/APN)". So I restored everything with TIBU except that file on the list of applications (it has a green name).

Had just the opposite for a customer's phone. Changed their's from CDMA auto to LTE/GSM/CDMA auto and MMS started working. Thanks for the tip about changing modes.

[Q] Flashed CM10.1 Nightly and cannot send SMS. SMSC Number wont save.

I just got a nice new Galaxy Note 2 today, rooted it with Odin, and got CM10 installed just fine with CMW.
I got 4g data just fine, calling works and all that jazz, but SMS and MMS will not get to their destination. It says sent on my phone but it doesnt got to the target phone. Same deal with the other way around.
I was helped is the chat for CM10.1 ( http:/ /webchat.freenode.net/?channels=teamhacksung-support ) and was pointed to a blog that had a passcode in type in.
( http:/ /algorithmic-indian.blogspot.sg/2011/03/how-to-change-message-center-number-in.html )
*#*#4636#*#*
doing so puts me to a testing screen, I drilled down to phone settings and saw that my SMSC number was blank. I refreshed and it populated, but i cant figure out how to get it to save or apply. The settings will not stick.
I've reflashed and it still persists. Any ideas? I am going to reflash stock and see if that fxes it, but if anyone has any ideas I would be awesome.

I've had issues before with mms not sending on 4.2.2. What I did to fix my issue was I had a original backup made of my apn settings when I was on stock. I made the backup with apn backup and restore free in play store. Now on 4.2.2 or 4.1.2 apn backup restore app does not restore apn's but if you follow the devs instructions on making apn backup and restore a system app thru titanium backup and go in the apps settings and click the ics disable check it will restore your original apn backup. first in the app I clicked the delete apns option to clear all apns on the phone then did the actual restore of the original backup and rebooted, waited a bit and bingo mms worked once again. Now I know what your going to say your apn settings are good, well so were mine when I had mms issues and the delete of all apns and restore of my original fixed the issue. Hope this helps, did for me each time.

I just re-flashed to stock and I am still not getting SMS sent or received?!?!?! Where can I find proper ATT APN settings to duplicate?
Come to think of it I am not 100% sure I ever sent a SMS before I flashed. I literally took it home and flashed....Maybe I need to go back to the ATT store and ask some questions.

There are posts on some ATT apn setting in the forums here, im with rogers so can't share u mine unfortunately. As for never sending a sms when u got your phone it could be a possibility ATT fuxored your plan or something but you'd have to restore back to pure stock with counter cleared and status back to normal before bringing it back to ATT.
EDIT: Btw don't forget to hit the thanks button if I help u in anyway

Yeah I got that all sorts of stock now. Ive researched and found my settings are correct. More research leads me to believe ATT messed up upgrading my plan.

It doesn't have to be completely stock thought that is the safest method. I've returned 3 and they were all rooted just flash a stock rom and you should be good.

So, I went into ATT with all intentions of returning the phone. I told the lady the issue and she looked at my account and saw that they forgot to turn SMS/MMS/and MM2AM back on!
I was going from an old 2010 Sim card, from when I got my ATT Tilt (since then I only bought full unlocked phones, Motorola Droid, Nexus 1 and just swapped the SIM Card), so when they got me my new Micro-SIM and upgraded my grandfathered Unlimited data plan, they forgot to turn SMS on.
I would like to thank everyone who tried to help me, I really do appreciate it!
Good to hear so they did bork the transfer. Glad you got it sorted

This worked for me to get MMS to send on cm10.1. Everything is FINE on stock touchwizz.. so I did your method, and flash AOSPA, and now MMS can send... HOWEVER...
When I install AT&T Messages, it will NOT send MMS.... I really don't want to part with AT&T messages, I love it... I keep heading back to TW because I want to use AT&T Messages...
have you had any success with AT&T Messages on CM10.1 and MMS?

[Q] MMS not working for CM 12.1

Anyone else having problems sending or receiving with MMS on the nightly builds for CM 12.1? My SMS works just fine.
I have Ting, which may be part of my problem. I am using the same APN settings that use to work for MMS in CyanogenMod 11.
Yep. I've been fighting this for 3 days now. I must have tried every CM 12.1 variant out there with the same result. The APN list shows Ting... but you cannot select it, modify it, or save it. Reset to Default APN doesn't work... Rebooting 18 times doesn't work... flashing the various APN "fixes" like for FreedomPop, MVNO_CDMA, etc doesn't work. But like you... SMS, Phone, and Data (on WiFi) work fine. However, MMS and data (on 3G/4G) don't work.
What has worked... backing off to either a Stock ROM or CM 11. So something in these recent CM 12.1 builds is just broken. The only reason I was trying to upgrade from CM 11 to CM 12.1 was because of that StageFright vulnerability. So I may just go with the Stock ROM until I see the CM 12.1 APN issue for Ting has been resolved.
I've been using the clear google messaging app from the TBO updater app and just installed their latest hangouts to try. They both have been handling mms better than any other messaging apps and sometimes the stock mms will work by just having the gmessenger app installed. I've been rom hopping lately and it seems pretty much the same for me across most CM12.1 based ROMs. Also, you could try editing the actual apns-conf.xml file under /system/etc/ back it up first tho and for permissions 644. from my Virgin Mobile Tri-Band model S3

You should be able to modify Ting by touching the name, even when the button for selecting it is absent. You may need to add "default" to the type once you have it open. I have Ting and I have had to deal with this somewhat as well. I believe I saw some recent Ting APN updates get pushed through as well. Have you tried Exodus?
There is also another thread in here about lollipop and 5.1 which has information that may help.

Exodus? Nope... but I'll be checking it out now!
If you don't mind me asking more about the APN. How many are actually needed in there? If I were to delete all the APNs and just manually setup the 1 needed... is it just the LTE version pointing to http://mms.plspictures.com ... or ... http://mms.sprintpcs.com and making sure the "type" has "default" in it? It's the one thing that I can't understand. Out of every forum I've read... not 1 mentions just blowing all the APNs away and just simply adding a single APN for Ting. I don't think I really need all 8-16 APNs (depending on the ROM you flash).
And this question is open to anyone. Is there any reason you have to have all those APNs for other networks like Boost, FreedomPop, Boost Mobile, etc? What should the APN contents be for just Ting? Inquiring minds want to know.

I actually tried that myself but didn't have any luck with it sticking past reboot or even holding the data signal right. It's possible it might work. I don't know enough about APN's to say for sure. Did you try adding "default" to the beginning of the Ting APN type and then save it?
