[Q] i317 4G in Europe? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

Hey everyone, I managed to get an SGH-i317. I live in Italy, thus I had to unlock it - through the hidden menu in Android 4.1.1 - to actually make use of it. Now everything radio-related works fine, except for the fact I can't get 4G LTE internet connection. The phone will only reach H+.
I recon this is a problem with i317's modem, as it probably can only interface with AT&T's 4G band, and my guess is using an N7105 modem might address this issue... assuming it is possible to flash an N7105 modem on a i317 with no hassle.
Now, I've tried to look for something about his topic, but the vague answers I found only confused me even more. Might I ask for help, mates?
Cheers.

Confirming my thought, the i317 works on LTE bands 17 and 4, while in my country LTE is only on bands 3, 7 and 20 - which the N7105 supports.
[UPDATE] I just tried flashing an N7105 modem on my i317... no signal whatsoever, reverted back to AT&T...

Any help?

T-Mobile and AT&T Note 2 cross-compatibility

After a pretty serious amount of searching, I still haven't been able to find a straightforward explanation of what works on which Note 2 on which network as far as 3G/4G service goes. (There was only one that came close, and it still didn't seem to actually be complete.) While the consensus seems to be that the T-Mo phone is the most flexible, what I've been able to cobble together is that the answer is much closer to "depends on what you want to use it for." (Duh, right?) So here's what I understand so far -- please feel free to correct me if I have any of this wrong, and I'll update (or if you think carriers/devices should be added to the list, comment with sources and I'll add on the info):
----
T-Mo T889 (stock unlocked): up to 42 MBps DC-HSPA+ on T-Mobile network (1900MHz); up to HSPA on AT&T network (trying to verify)
AT&T i317 (stock, unlocked): LTE on 700MHz on AT&T network (and future AWS when AT&T gets around to deploying); EDGE on T-Mobile network
T889 with T-Mo LTE unlock (est. Spring 2013): may possibly also enable LTE on AT&T network.
T889 with flashed AT&T radio (or NV partition edit): unknown -- no success to date. Hypothesized that it may enable LTE on AT&T network.
i317 with flashed T889 radio (or NV partition edit): loses AT&T LTE capability; gains HSPA+ (non-DC) on T-Mobile network (DC yet to be verified?)
No idea as to what would happen if/when an i317 can be flashed with a post-Spring 2013 T-Mo radio.
----
So the conclusions I seem to draw from this are:
If you want guaranteed highest speeds out of either service today, and some possibility of T-Mo LTE support in the future, get the AT&T phone and get used to playing around with radio swaps.
If you want the guaranteed highest speed out of T-Mo in a few months (and now, obviously), and some possibility of getting the highest speed out of AT&T (aka LTE) whenever xda-developers' ingenuity figures it out, get the T-Mo phone.
How does this sound to you guys?
Bewn looking into the same thing looks as the t889 should somehow be able to get lte on att but still cant find how

Short answer, AT&T Note 2 can get full speed HSPA+ on T-Mobile and LTE on AT&T... I currently have it that way... You need to activate AWS bands on NV partition... I also have the T889 and the T889 can do the same... Remember what I have been telling since day 1... They are both the same phone... Just with different signals pre activated by their respective carriers...

As I understand it the note 2 is the first phone to have all the different model have the same physical design and the software is very close to the same as well. I beleive that there are two internatinal ones the gsm and lte. All the us versions are based off the lte one so they are all very similar. I think we even have a few roms in the dev section now that are based off sprints rom. I could be wrong though. I was a little confused at first because usually on tmo our phone would be based off the gsm interntinal but not this time.
I gotta say I am really happy with samsung. And I am impressed with what they have accomplished with this phone and the sgs3. They told the carriers to go to hell and did it their way this time. I think they were able to do it because android is like 60% of the worlds cell phone market and samsung is like 75% of android sales. I am sure the numbers are off but I remember reading about that last year. Sorry to go off topic a little bit.

You've done this with the T889? Sounded like you haven't yet from the linked thread.
Keep us up to date on exact steps and success here in the T mobile forum section please.

Uh, that's his point. And mine, for that matter. AT&T only so far - meaning my OP is currently correct. Nobody has done it on T-Mo (at least that has reported it here). "Hardware is the same," yeah, we all know that, but we also know the software isn't, so it's a matter of what we've actually tried and succeeded with and have confirmation of.
When somebody actually reports a success with T-Mo they can confirm, I'll update.

Sorry, poor assumption on your part. I found that. Did you read past the first post? First post says DC works (which was an edit, apparently yesterday) but post 3 says it only indicates DC, no actual speed bump to DC or 42 speeds. Lots of failures on that thread too. So I listed what worked for the OP. If you'd like to confirm dual-5MHz operation (which you didn't explicitly when you posted your success in that post), maybe some screenshots of the speed change if you have them, that should be fine and I'll edit.

Right, like I said, as soon as someone's actually done it successfully I'll update.
I can add the NV method to the radio method, I suppose, since both seem to work on AT&T.

Posts like yours aren't much better than trolling. What did it add to the conversation? Search for what?
If you'd actually searched and read the numerous threads across both the i317 and T889 forums, including both the General and Q&A sections, like I have, you'd see multiple claims of it works, or it doesn't work, and varying methods described with people saying they work and don't work. TEKHD has bounced back and forth multiple times on this, along with a few others.
I was just asking for clarification that this was done on a T889 or not, since TEKHD said in the post I was replying to that it does, but in the thread he linked he said it didn't.
This is a T889 forum, isn't it? What do the users of the T889 care about an i317 hack unless the same hack will work for us?
LTE on T889 Phone
Searched and found conflicting repoerts. Is it possible to get the LTE working on AT&T using the Tmobile T889 model of the note 2?
It is thought so, but no one's done it yet.

Ah ok... so i just got ATT today and am using it on my tmobile note 2. DO I need to do anything at all to be getting the best speeds or is it getting the fastest it can right now until someone gets LTE working>?
I hope you guys can help me, I'm frustrated already, I bought an AT&T SAMSUNG-SGH-I317 and also purchased an unlock code, phone was working just fine with 4g on AT&T ( Tested ) but after unlocking I just don't get service when I use a T Mobile or Simple Mobile SIM.
On the About Phone -> Status I do get "Network: T-Mobile/Simple Mobile" ( Depending on the SIM I use ), but I don't even get EDGE, I cant make calls, I get the annoying emergency calls only, its making me crazy. Is there a way to fix this issue?
( I already added the APN settings, but im sure I don't need that to make calls, or get EDGE, I don't know what else to do to fix this ).
Thanks
maybe try factory reset? Possibly flash a different modem as well.

Factory reset would do nothing, the phone connects to AT&T with no problems, 4G and everything, but not even EDGE on T Mobile.
You already have a thread asking that question. .alot of people get mad when you clutter the forums.

HELP so confused =[
I have a TMobile Note 2 N-7100, its now unlocked to use with my AT&T sim. it shows that i have 4G speeds, i am searching the threads and getting mixed messages about enabling LTE. i came across this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2068041 but it was non-specific about working on At&t, even though if it works which i have not yet confirmed is there another way to enable it without running the risk of "bricking" my phone?

Im confused... do you have a T-mobile Note 2? or a N7100? I beleieve the N7100 is the AWS International one, the Tmobile Note 2 is T889... or you could have an N7100 ROM flashed on a T889 (which existed in order to get 4.1.2 before the Tmo release).

Do your roms have the correct apn's?
I'm having connectivity challenges when trying 4.2.2 roms on Rogers w/ my i747m.
Tried most of the recommended modems on for i747m (complete modem list) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1831898
with CM10.1 and AOKP Task650.
The result, at worst little to no connectivity, at best intermittent connectivity. It doesn't seem to want to switch between towers and getting connectivity better than gprs or edge is pretty much non-existent
When I burn the rooted Rogers ROM - root66_RWC_I747MVLDLK4.tar.md5 I get good connectivity switching and 3G. I haven't seen LTE yet but it was only officially rolled out here 9 days ago so it's still crap and only partially out.
I'm about to roll back to the rooted ROM and apply the latest Canadian patch via KIES and give up on S3 mods. If some kind canadian has the time or inclination a faq/step by step on a S3 rogers install that actually works would be very appreciated. I've tried most of the recipes on XDA, task650, cyanomodgen and can't seem to come up with a working combination that gives me data/phone service that is at least as good as stock.
thanks,
rf

This may be correct. Do other ROMs switch between 3G and H+? Do you see 4G vice 4G LTE on stock rom? What download speeds are you getting on stock and other ROMs? With AT&T, HSPA was labeled 4G instead of H or H+. They had to add LTE to the 4G after LTE went online for them in order to differentiate a difference. The majority of places have HSPA labeled as H or H+ and LTE is considered true 4G. I have noticed that many ROMs will show 3G until data is received/sent and it switches to H+.

Running T-mobile on ATT note 2

Hello everyone.
I'm sorry if i write bad English because I'm not really good at it. Sorry in advance.
I have a ATT Note 2 which i bought from a friend and i unlocked it by using the free method from the forms.
When i first unlocked it my phone went to lte signal and my data was working fine and i was getting lte speeds.
I made a phone call which usually drops the single to HSPA+ aka 4g/3g but for some reason my phone doesn't go back to lte after.
I even called t-mobile they said they see my phone was on lte but they don't know why it's not going back to lte.
If anyone here running Tmobile sim in Att note 2 and still getting lte speeds after phone call is made please provide me some instructions as because I've tried everything possible i can from the forms. I've been trying for almost more then 3 to 4 months i still haven't found any solution to this problems.
If anyone can help me out that will be great.
Thank you and sorry for my bad English.
That's odd, mine is unlocked and I use Tmobile but I dont have those problems... maybe it's the modem, could be reception... sorry to head you're having issues dude.

First things first, what solutions have you tried? If we don't know what you've tried it won't help much. Also what method did you use to unlock it?
If you used the free unlock then you have the J2 modem - that's the earliest stock AT&T modem. Since you were able to downgrade, I'm assuming you can upgrade too. Depending on your location (whether t-mobile is using the refarmed AT&T bands or using their own) you can use the latest modem or you can search for a t-mobile modem.
But speed is what matters, not what icon is displayed. Check the phone status under the settings menu to see the actual network type you're connected to.

Canadian i747m not working any network in Europe

Hello Everyone
I have Galaxy S3 i747m from Rogers. I went to Europe for holidays. I unlocked my phone in Poland. After that phone was working ok but internet was very slow. It was working on Edge although everywhere was LTE range. I was changing carriers-sim cards but was the same problem. Then I went to UK. There my phone stopped reading any network especially when I was in the building. My current carrier is O2. My phone sometimes says not registered on network or says nothing. I have no connection at all. I dont know what to do now.
I flashed a new rom from this forum Hyperdrive which is nice but it didnt change anything. I was also installing those two files ..modem_XXDME4__ and modem+ddemg2 but my phone stopped working at all. So I had to format and flash a rom again.
Please help me guys because I want to destroy this phone with an AXE. I give up.
Not sure what the situation is in Europe, but I had a similar problem when I bought an unlocked i747M and attempted to use it on my AT&T network in the US.
Phone calls were fine, but way slow data connectivity.
US LTE does not support International/Canadian phones. Something with the modem and bands used here vs Canada.
Might be the same situation where you are. The modem may not be compatible with the European network bands.
I know DocHoliday77 helped me with mine. He made it very clear you CAN NOT change the modem version. I have the US version now and all is fine.
That's the only thing I can think of too tbh. That or something is corrupt or there's some sort of hardware issue. Sorry, I know that doesn't help much.... Hopefully someone else may have thoughts to add...

[Q] N7105 T0LTE Baseband? Reception issues.

I recently got my Note 2 and am having trouble figuring out what baseband I should be on as I'm having reception issues and was hoping I might need updated.
It's the AT&T T0LTE and it's unlocked. I'm running the latest CM11 nightlies. I'm on Straight Talk and using the T-Mobile sim. (Same issue with AT&T sim)
Currently running:
(Android 4.4.4, CM 11-20141007-NIGHTLY-t0lte, CWM 6.0.4.1)
(Baseband I317UCALJ2)
I've been searching but am having trouble finding good info on the modems and such. Can anyone point me in the right direction please? Thanks!
So I updated to i317UCUCNE5. Is this the latest? It made data work alot better, but im still having issues with actual calls from the house. My S2 works fine in the house for calls with the same sim, note 2 has issues though.
The ATT Galaxy Note II is the I317 not the N7105. ATT Modems you are already using the most recent one though (UCUCNE5) I have bad reception with this device too so I cannot help you there.

Oh ok, In about phone it says GT-N7105... i did notice the radio had the I317 in it.. Honestly it's a hacked together phone where I work at a phone shop. Its a T-mobile chasis and cover with what I assume is an ATT motherboard because that's the carrier that came up with i searched the IMEI was ATT. This motherboard had Omni loaded on it so I never got to see it in stock form.
On average this phone gets a 20db worse signal then my S2 with the same SIM. I get poor reception with the S2 at home, can't make any calls on the note2 at home. It works great everywhere else. Maybe it's just the phone, can't find any bad connections inside that could cause it, even tried another antenna cable.
Thanks for your input!
Hey, since this phone came unlocked.. im thinking it is the n7105 and not the i317. It was modded when I got it, so with that said. What radio should the n7105 be running? Maybe the i317 radio was flashed to this and that's my issue?
Your phone should have no signal and an unknown baseband using the I317 modems if it wasn't that model. I have no idea what modems the N7105 uses you could try searching the development thread for modems.
Cool thanks, i got it figure out. The model stuff anyway. It is an I317. I'm about to ODIN back to stock, take the OTA's and wipe it clean and see if that helps my signal issues. Has the I317UCAMH3 bootloader so shouldnt have any issues downgrading this initial time. Hopefully this will help the Frankenphone from hell.
