[Q] Can I dirty flash from 10 to 10.1 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Hello. I'm running the stable build of cyanogenmod 10, and am thinking of updating to the stable of 10.1. Can I just do the dirty flash instructions to update, or do I need to do a brand new clean flash, and start over. I've used the search bar, but can't seem to find anything specific to this. Thanks

Without looking anything up....I believe 10.1 is 4.2.2 and 10 is 4.1.1...or something like that....so no.....dirty flashing would be bad!
Sorry, you gotta clean install.

URGENT! from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 or 4.3

Ok so I'm curious of why I'm not able to update from 4.1.1 to 4.2.2 or 4.3. Any time I try to update, it tells me that I'm already up to date. Now I'm wanting the new CyanogenMod, I'm craving it...
When installing gapps is it a MUST to use gapps for 4.1.1 or can I use the ones from 4.2.2? I use Clock Work Recovery Premium but it's not installing google apps with it. It kind of erks me in a way...
So I'm at a complete loss... is it possible to get 4.2 or am I stuck with 4.1?
I'm running a SGH-I747.
Please hit me up asap!

Ok...you are not ready to do what you are asking. Are you even rooted? If you have no idea then you need to stop because you are not even close to being ready to install custom roms. You need to do some extensive reading. Everything about installing custom roms has been covered beyond extensively on this forum and many others. XDA is not designed to hand you the answers on some quick and easy to use instructions and for good reason. You need to know what you are doing and to do that you need to search and read...a lot. If you have a specific problem that has not been addressed in these forums then we will try to help you but don't expect a step by step walkthrough to your post here.

Oh boy.... where can I start... Welcome!! Now, The reason why you can't update to 4.1.1 to 4.3 is because currently, 4.1.1 is the latest update on your phone. But you should be able to update to 4.1.2... I am guessing you are using an AT&T Samsung Galaxy S3.
In order to get 4.2.2 (or later 4.3), your phone has to be rooted and you need to have a custom recovery (ClockworkMod or TWRP). Rooting basically enables root directories so that you can modify your phone.
Here is a place to get you started.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426
Keep in mind that rooting your phone WILL VOID your phone's warranty.
And take a look at this to understand more about rooting or custom recovery:

OK...Now for me not to sound totally like an @$$. Welcome!!! These are definitely some of the best places to start but please do not let it be the only ones you look at. Before you plunge in to root and install custom roms please read peoples experiences and issues they have had throughout the various threads. This will aid you in resolving any problems you may have during the processes you are trying and helps you get a better understanding of your phone. Please make sure that prior to trying to root, you look up information about losing and restoring of your IMEI and tripping your flash counter. As stated above, rooting will VOID your warranty so this is done at your own risk. If you follow instructions closely you should not have any major issues.
I'm sorry gentlemen, this was typed so quick I may have sounded ignorant to the "rooting world".
I know how to successfully root and install custom roms, but my question was so distorted and didn't make sense because I had just got off a 17 hour shift.
I am currently running Cyanogenmod 10 on my SGH-I747, with 4.1.1 gapps. I was having an issue installing Cyanogenmod 10.1 because my phone was 4.1.1.(why it wouldn't work) I was trying to question the fact of, is it possible to upgrade to a 4.2.2 rom and keep the latest version of Cyanogenmod?
Just hearing rumors about a 4.2.2 ROM excites me, but it being a ROM in its self, how can I run Cyanogenmod with it?
I love the feel of mod but if 4.2.2 is better, flexible and faster... I would love to have it.
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I'm still a little confused as to what you are asking. There are several versions of Cyanogenmod. CM 10.0 is a 4.1.2 ROM. CM 10.1.2 is a 4.2.2 ROM.

I don't really understand what you are trying to say. You can't install CyanogenMod 10.1 at all? What does the error say exactly? Please be a bit more clear so I can help you out
Are you installing the wrong gapps version? If you are flashing Cm10.1 (4.2.2), you need to flash gapps 4.2.2, not gapps 4.1.1.

LOL, you have a Nexus 4, right? Don't flash an i9100 ROM, that's for Galaxy SII, find one that says "mako". If you flash a ROM that isn't for your device, you will almost surely brick your phone.

Lovely thing about the nexus is that it virtually can't be bricked. Sure it will cause the phone to be stuck in a bootloop, or blackscreen after booting, but you can always get your phone in recovery or bootloader mode and reach it again.
Mind if I borrow the thread?
I have the verizion i535 gs3
flashed pa 2.5 have android 4.1.2 with a 3.0.46-cynogenmod kernel
now all I am getting is error after error like google playstore crashing, androidkeyboard aosp not working at all and .com.android.phone errors

Rom to flash

Hey all, I am runnig a rooted stock LS980, with TWRP, I just got an OTA push tonight, and I am not going to flash it, but I hate the notification so I guess I am going to flash a custom rom instead of waiting until I get home. Which rom do you all recommend?
I am thinking pac-rom, but the most recent nightly was 7/10, but there is a build called pac_ls980-dev-20140730 can anyone tell me what this is?
Also I cannot find the Gapps to pacrom?
Do you recommend cyanogenmod or AOKP and why? which version should I flash and Gapps???
Thank you!

You dont have to swap roms to lose the notification. Just swipe down and click and hold the notification, open the app info and select the notification check mark off.
Personally I enjoyed the Liquid Smooth rom, it was very fast. And any standard gapps file for your version of android should be fine. Just remember to flash the ZV8 radio if you are going with an AOSP rom. Or flash dr87s kernel. And not to sure what that build of pac-rom is. And I enjoyed Cyanogen for a bit, they are always working on new things, you know that there's going to be a fix to any problems that arise. And I love the blue look. But everyone uses roms for different things, I mainly use stock, rooted with xposed framework.
Why not try them all?

I am pretty comfy with cyanogenmod, I have used it since I got my HP touchpad two years ago, however I prefer pac-rom.
can I get the ZV8 radio link please? what is the dr87s kernel? good or bad? I am running kernel 3.4., but i believe to be a JDI kerel, and not LGD because I flashed the white lines fix.
CM11 is a great ROM, but I will warn you, if you're in an area with Spark (B26 of B41), ZV8 radio wont connect to those automatically. If you're wanting to keep Spark enabled, I'd recommend Slim or Mahdi until CM11 updates their kernel to support the newer modems.
Also, newest Mahdi/Slim will auto detect your display during installation so you will not need to worry about having a JDI panel.
EDIT: Here's Mahdi's Thread and here's SlimKat's Thread. They both use Dr87's kernel which is boss.
What Ascertion said is spot on, but here is the link for a zv8 radio. It also contains a lot of useful information. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2627765

So, If I were to flash Slimrom, and the Gapps, do I have to flash the dr87 kernel as well as the ZV8 radio?
in the install directions it says to wipe everything, however i was told not to wipe system before when flashing a rom... should I or shouldn't I?

Can You Suggest a Good CM Lollipop Rom?

I got the Samsung S3 Tmobile T999. I want tot install the latest Cyanogenmod rom. Mind you, I'm a noobi, never installed CM before. But I'd like a good recommendation for a good, STABLE rom thats CM with the latest Lollipop. But without any issues like camera, video, wifi, calling, etc. . Can you please recommend one?

Honestly to tell you every Rom is almost based of CM . So your best bet would be to install CM 12 cause you get constant updates.

No, once you download the update go to recovery and look in cmupdater folder in the root directory, the update should be there. once u install it, you are good to go, everything will be there after u update, so no reinstalling. just clear ur cache before u restart after update.
Ok cool.. Will do that. Appreciate it.

Try Eclipse V5 if you want a TW rom. I am using it. I just flash it two weeks ago. I also on stock 4.4.2 before this. First time flashing. Never knowing soo much about rom and other stuff. Make sure you read a lot before flashing. Most of the instruction can get online. Although V6 is out, but i still stick with V5. Most V5 info can get from "[ROM][GT-N7100][TW 4.4.4] Eclipse By AC" under "Galaxy Note II Original Android Development". Happy flashing.

i have been using android version 5.1.1 based on CM 12.1 by ivan meler and i have been using this phone with this rom for the past two months , it's development has been completed that means it is the most finished version with literally 0 bug or lags and i must say i didn't expected this kind of performance at all ... this made me revert back to my note from my iphone 6 (you can imagine the smoothness of this rom) i would not recommend you marshmallow based roms becasue about 20 days i tried one and it had issue so if you use this device as a daily driver i would say go for 5.1.1 roms instead and CM 13&MM is still in development phase that means developers are still making it worthy .
you can hit the thanks button if i helped if anyhow .. if you need any noob friendly guide on how to root and install custom roms you can always ask me .. and there are quite of few tutorials on xda a well as Youtube

Yes it's based on CM but I tested some Marshmallow Roms and this ROM is really good.
Try Ivan Meler's Cyanogenmod 13 Rom ( Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow).
It´s pretty stable and i had no problems until build 6.
Wirth build 7 there is a problem with bluetooth for some people.

All the custom ROMs (not Samsung official) must be installed with a custom recovery like TWRP or ClockworkMod. The custom recovery can be installed with Odin.
I have been like a month with CM13 and I had no problems, but if you want a stable ROM, install an older one like CM12.1 aka Lollipop.

From 12 to 13 When will be stable. Need again flash and wipe or OTA update?
Try Dr. Ketan's kit Kat, N3, N4 and S5 features. Truly superb. Great battery life, Viper FX for sound. Stable. Tried many but always come back to this one.
