DPI - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have just come from a Dell Streak, and about the only thing I loved about that device was that at 240dpi I could read the text whatever, what dpi would be similar, and if you can't recommend one or think I should experiment, what is the best app for changing dpi these days?

Xposed framework is a great way of changing dpi on a per app basis.

260-270 is at the middle which would be nice..
240 is kinda too small..
320 is the default..
Make sure you are using a ROM that supports multi dpi other wise you might get stuck in FCs

Currently on the stock networks rom, I want to mix and match latest PDA with my network smodem and deodex and root and all that jazz, but I cannot figure out how to deodex, also not keen on service firmware, really not wanting to flash bootloaders.

[Q] Changing DPI on FK23?

So I flashed the stock with root FK23 jellybean leak last night and I love it! I keep seeing mention of changing the dpi for the ripple effect and other things. I've heard about changing dpi in the past to get more screen space but I've never messed with it for worry of messing my phone up or having market problems.
So my question is can someone please explain to me how I would go about changing my DPI for FK23, what DPI setting is generally considered the best all around, and will I have to do anything special so that the app market works ok? I looked at LCD density changer pro and DPI changer on the market and both apparently don't support jellybean. So if anyone wouldn't mind explaining how or what I could use to change my dpi and what the safest setting would be I would greatly appreciate it.
I did search here first but most of the info was for gingerbread or ICS or involved editing the build.prop file and I would rather get first hand info from anyone that's successfully changed their dpi on this version FK23, how they did it and what setting they used. Thank you in advance for any and all help or even a link (I don't mind reading) Thank you!

Thanks Much
I know with the older versions of touchwiz though, that once you did change the dpi, you wind up having the launcher all screwy and not filling the screen, and a few apps, namely the dialer and music, if I recall, also either do not work, or only take up part of the screen.
Is this still the case?

Anyone that's messed with this before recommend a good all around dpi value? I'm using nova launcher but I dont want all my other apps broken either. Is there a good value that will give me ripple effect and more screen real-estate without breaking everything?
I'm trying to get as much information as possible about DPI settings before changing it. Thank you much for any information at all.

Change complete system DPI to 241 on touchwiz ROMs?

So I've tried a few of the newer 4.2 ROMs and love the ability to change the system DPI...not just on a per app basis. What I'd like to do is change the DPI on touchwiz ROMs. Is this possible? I have exposed installed and see that I have the option to change the system ui DPI, but it does not seem to do anything.

All you need to do to change DPI on any ROM is edit the build.prop file. But be careful, many bad things can happen if you edit the wrong line.

If you do decide to go ahead with it, rom toolbox lite can do this sort of thing. There are other modders like dpi modder pro but it soft bricked one of my phones, so I'd stick wtih room toobox.
Xposed is working on my phone with stock rom. I had to reboot a few times to get system ui to take. The good thing about xposed to the other modules you can run like call recording and multi dpi playstore.

Smaller Font in Messaging Conversations

I am REALLY struggling with this. I have installed a bunch of different SMS apps but prefer stock (use clipboard, LED function....) Any suggestions how I can do this? Turning the system font size down doesn't change my messaging conversation font. I would prefer to use the default sms app with the Note 2, but is there any way I can make the font smaller than what the volume keys allow me to do?
Even all the way down the messages are huge (I can only see 2-3 with the keyboard open) and like 8 without it open. For privacy reasons I'd also like it smaller so everyone around me can't read all my messages while it's open...
Try the app settings app in the xposed thread you can set the dpi or font to anything you want in any app

You need to be rooted to install the app but once the xposed installer is installed you can unroot and all the modules will still work. The per app dpi is well worth rooting for, you can have a lot of apps in tablet mode

If you are on AOSP based rom, then get a rom that supports ParanoidAndroid, and change the keyboard dpi to 320
If you are on Samsung ROM, get AOSP4.2 Keyboard.. It does not get affected by dpi changes..

keyboard/launcher dpi fix
If you figure out what the correct dpi for the keyboard and launcher are you can then set the dpi to that using the app settings module of the xposed framework.....you can fix the problem of the size by doing that
If u r rooted u can also set the DPI by manually changing it in build prop
---------- Post added at 04:22 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:21 PM ----------
U will need es file explorer or root explorer.....
anyone have this keyboard apk ? I am trying to get the samsung keyboard on my lg v20 its a nice keyboard but its missing the voice speech shortcut!! you have to long press the gear and then select the voice icon and that just sucks)

SM-P600 - DPI Recomondations ?

I have SM-P600 2014 edition. Looking for any recommendation to increase DPI. Default is 320 I am thinking of 250. Couldnt do it using BuildProp Editor. I am rooted with stock recovery.
Any suggestions ?
I wouldn't do this if i were you. I heard somebody else tried to do this and after restarting his tablet, it went into a bootloop.
Worst thing that can happen is that you have to flash a firmware via odin
If I remem er correctly there is an app called "pimp my rom" which has tons of options. There you were able to change the dpi. I would perform a backup first and then try

Thanks for the response. How do I backup ? I have not installed custom recovery yet. is there a way to backup through stock recovery ?
Btw I tried changing with BuildProp Editor (always worked on HTC) but for whatever reason after reboot dpi is resetting back to 320.

Best off using Xposed and installing App Settings so you can change individual apps DPI and leave the system ui alone !

DPI
Xposed and App settings - set system and android to 240 dpi.
Keeps the notification bar narrow. Alternatively, use Fullscreen.
Launcher icon size will needs tweaking up and a few other quirks like keyboard. Stock Google keyboard adjusts automatically but others may need tweaking down to around 160 dpi.
Adjust other apps to your personal taste.

Is there a dpi setting that brings the notification drawer to the bottom again?

AFAIK, LineageOS has set to 800 dpi.
