I just flashed the most recent AOKP on my AT&T GS3 and can't receive MMS. the issue is the same on the stock messaging app as well as handcent, my APN settings are all correct, and every other option that I've researched (here and elsewhere) yields no positive results. I didn't have an issue with an older version of AOKP, but I updated because other aspects of the ROM were getting a little glitchy. This version is much smoother, but now MMS isn't working. what the heck is going on?

I believe the default sms app might not be compressing the image to fit your carriers mms limit. Try using a different sms app and see if it sends. If that's the problem you could use an alternative sms app or try decreasing your cameras quality to make the images smaller.
update: I did a factory reset, and mms started working again... for about a day. it then started doing the same things as before, so I'm totally lost. same issue arises whether I use handcent or the stock app. will attempt a third messaging app for the purpose of covering all bases
no other third party messaging apps work either. I can't think of anything else that could be an issue. any more help?

Took me forever to figure it out customized it how I wanted tested then had to add apps back one at a time until it stopped working my friend got really sick of getting mms from me while testing. It's a known issues listed on their Web page apparently the block port 80 and that's what mms goes thru

Hi all,
Does anyone else have issues with the messaging app slowing to a crawl after a while? For me, after using it for a while it really begins to become slow to respond to things like the back button, opening a thread, etc.
Thanks,
Ho'okani
Try setting it to delete messages after a certain number, typically around 200 or so.

My suggestion is to use another messaging app...I personally prefer chompSMS but theres also others with way more features and options than the stock messaging app and I never have freezing problems or anything like it..

It is already set to do that but I think that because I did a restore from a previous phone there are a lot more messages than the set limit. I never had problems with my other phone though with that many messages. Think I'll try using another messaging app as the other reply suggests and see how that goes.
When installing another sms app, would it be starting new or does it integrate with the existing messages on the phone and bring those threads over to the new app.
Thanks,
Ho'okani
The SMS is a globally accessible database. So any app can access it. Just make sure you turn off notifications for the builtin sms app.

Thanks guys. I'm going to give Handcent a try and see how that goes. Anyone know if you make Handcent your default messaging app, does that make it so messages no longer get added to the stock app's database? I ask that because I also use SMS Backup and Restore to backup my text messages.
Thanks,
Ho'okani
I just installed my first ROM after rooting my SGS3. AOKP seemed like exactly what I was after and I am not disappointed. Excellent work by the authors. Anyway, I wiped data, cache, dalvik cache, and installed. Everything is working perfectly except for one problem. When I send an SMS, the phone always says it failed to send even though it sent fine. The recipient received the message. Incoming texts are fine as well.
I tried with both the standard messaging app and Handcent SMS. So far the only message which managed to go out without an error was "Test", and I don't know if that was a coincidence or because it was so extremely short.
Internet and data connections are fine. Just that for some reason, it believes that the texts I send out are not making it even though they are.
I tried messing with the APN settings, messaging app settings, no difference. Obviously, texting was working fine before I rooted/flashed.
Does anyone have ideas as to how to fix this?
Thanks.
I have this exact issue as well. Someone respond please!

I uninstalled my 3rd party messenger and then went to settings/apps/all/messaging, cleared that ****, then restarted the phone and walla. I hate the stock messaging app but at least I can send texts now. I suspect the next build won't have this issue.

This issue has been fixed a while ago if you are using Tasks AOKP. But only stock messenger app works OK. 3rd party apps still don't work and the developers of those apps need to update. You guys should search. Its been mentioned many many times.

Thanks for that. Ya that seems to work. The messages sent without an error. Don't know yet if the other person received them. I'm on the 12/23/2012 build and there is a Jan one so I'll try that next.

Did search, extensively. Maybe didn't search for the right thing because even tho I found similar issues with SMS, none were this particular issue. I did all I could before posting here.
As for the developers needing to update - the messaging app I was using works just fine on the stock SGS3 so why would they need to fix it? Doesn't look like the problem is theirs.

Thanks for the recommendation. I installed the Jan.10 build and the problem is gone! Working correctly with both the stock messaging app and Handcent SMS.
Love it.
Hey guys, I've searched for solutions to this issue and nothing seems to work.
Anytime I send an mms it just sits on the ticker saying "sending" but never actually accomplishing anything and when I receive an mms I am unable to download it.
I have been told it may be my APN or my RIL.
I have tried multiple settings for APN but not sure if I am using the correct ones. I just reflashed the newest radios for TORO (description in my sig) but that helps nothing, still cannot send or receive mms.
If someone could give me a hand on how to correctly set my APN for Verizon or how to get/flash the correct RIL (if there even is one for an LTE phone), I would be very greatful.

I am having the exact same problem as dank. My phone is setup identical to his - VZ GNEX (Toro), PA 2.99.9r9, same radios, same recovery, less the kernel (I still have the stock kernel). I tried a few things including *22890 to update PRL (now 52996) and *22891 to update programming OTA. Neither of these worked. In fact my 3g/4g connectivity is weaker since the PRL & Programming update and I still can't send or receive MMS messages.
Anyone else having this MMS problem?

I backed up my "internal" SD card and formatted my phone. I adb pushed the latest PA & Gapps to the phone and installed both. I connected to wifi and logged in to my Google account. Then I had my GF send me an MMS message with a picture attached. I received it almost immediately even connected to my wireless router. I will see if I can figure out what the heck I am restoring that is causing MMS to break. I use Titanium Backup to restore my apps + data and I use it to restore just a few things in system data.
Is it better to use Google Play to backup/restore my apps and use TB to restore my app data only?

Thanks for the tip I will check out MyBackup Pro.
Just to let you know, my phone stopped receiving MMS after I restored an SMS backup from the app SMS Backup & Restore. It stopped receiving MMS in both Handcent and the default messaging client. I am going to double check that this caused my issue and post back here in a bit.
My Gnex
Android: 4.2.1
Baseband: I515.10 V.FF02 / I515.FG02
Kernel: 3.0.331-gd5a18e0android (stock)
ROM: PA 2.99.9-PIE
Edit: So far I have done a fresh install (data format) and restored apps, settings, data, etc step by step. Each time I checked MMS from my GF's phone. I skipped restoring Handcent app & data via Titanium Backup and restored my SMS messages with SMS Backup Restore. So far, MMS is functioning just fine in both Handcent and the default Android messaging app even when I am on wifi. At this point, it seems that merely restoring the Handcent App and/or data via Titanium Backup was breaking MMS on my phone.
Edit 2: I carefully restored everything on my phone and I can still send/receive MMS messages even on wifi. As I mentioned in my previous edit, I did not restore the Handcent app or Handcent data. That seems to be the cause of my MMS woes.
I cant get handcent to send mms for nothing, but stock up works fine, but it sucks thou

I am having the same MMS issues. I am currently on PA 2.99.9_PIE 4 and am going to jump to PA 2.99.9_PIE 6 this afternoon or evening; so I will do a full wipe then not restore Handcent with TB. I will pull it down from the Play store instead. I will update with my findings; hopefully I will also come to find that my issues were a result of restoring Handcent with TB.
***Update***
Turns out the issue was Handcent related. Haven't tried sending MMS while on WiFi (work WiFi sucks), but a picture went through over LTE without any difficulty whatsoever (honestly can't remember the last time it went that quickly). Only downside is that I'm no longer using Handcent. Oh well, at least the stock messaging is a lot better now than the last time I used it.
If you're using a third party app such as GoSMS, manually input your APN settings in GoSMS.
Did u try GETril? Tried everything else including ROM/kernel revert to stock 4.2.1. Followed instr. (carefully) then SMS to myself and all is good. Get it on PlayStore....
Thanks guys for all your help, I am now using a custom stock Mms.apk and everything sends and receives perfectly. The issue was 3rd party apps, Handcent for me.
After using the stock modified Mms.apk I really like it much better than Handcent or Chomp, much smoother.
I am planning on flashing the new Synergy Rom for Galaxy s3, I see it is available for all carriers, but there is no dedicated thread for it on the sprint part, I see it is on the Verizon threat and it says works on all carriers....is there any other files I need to flash along with the main zip to make it work for sprint, or is that included all in that one zip.
source: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1792499
It's all included... some reports say that with Sprint you need to flash, let it try to boot (it won't boot) and then dirty flash over top of it again and it should boot up
SPRINT GS3 FAQ
It works well. But you can't update profile/prl. Also if you want to install custom kernels must be Sprint versions.

Phone not yet activated message Sprint S3
Just flashed the synergy ROM, and I could not get the phone to work. I re-flashed it several times, and tried all of the options in the setup before flashing. The data worked fine. The phone would dial Sprint customer svc for a second, and then say phone not yet activated. I had CM 10.1 on there, but that was not for me. I wish this would have worked, but I suspect someone here knows the fix. Maybe a bad download? It took 1.5 hours over slow hotel internet.

I've noticed this as well. I didn't think it would matter at all though. Everything works GREAT that I tried. BUT I found out after using it all day today, that it has a flaw with sending and receiving MMS... For me anyways. I can get on my 3G connection just fine and it pulls up websites, sends and receives emails. The phone also calls out just fine and sends and receives SMS no problem. Everything works great except for the MMS (be it pictures or an audio recording)
I've tried - Updating profile - didn't work
- switching my data connection from LTE/CDMA to just cdma.
- Wiping internal SD card (not just data/cache but the whole SD card VIA cwm) and reflash rom
- I don't know what else to try
Anyone have this problem? Anyone know what I may do to resolve it?
I've looked around and I got to the point where I entered in a special code which would reboot the phone and activate it. Too bad it didn't work and I had to restore the stock rom for it to do that process (Hope it doesn't charge me an activation fee)
Thanks so much for any input! I like the liquid smooth rom I'm on right now, but man I love the camera too much on the touchwiz roms and so far it seems like this synergy not only gives me the speed of aosp but the look of touchwiz and the note2 camera. Would be nice if i can get around this hurtle
Update on my above post
Just an update - I got the MMS to work by using GO SMS from the play store. I thought it was a long shot to install a different messaging app, but now I can both send and receive MMS! It still wont work through the normal messaging app (Sending MMS results in it acting like it went through, but never reaches its destination. Receiving MMS would constantly ask me to download it, then fail when I would click the download button.) But then when I go into this go sms app and try to download it, it works just fine, and sends just fine. The options in this app seem pretty awesome for a free app anyways so I'm actually kinda happy I had to find a workaround
It seems when I downloaded this app, that the messaging app would often forceclose after receiving a mms. To eliminate this, I just went in the messaging app and turned off notifications and auto retrieve MMS. no more force closes
Hope this helps anyone else who may be having this issue!
Have a great weekend!!!

I just recently rooted and flashed a rom (successfully) to my phone (SPH-L710), but I notices a very annoying issue. I cannot send or receive multimedia messages (MMS). I am technically not on Sprint. I am on Ting which uses the Sprint Network. Before I rooted, I was only able to use MMS messages if I was on wifi. I have turned off data on my phone to save money on my monthly bill. Some people may find that annoying, but I don't and it's a small price to pay. After rooting and flashing my phone to Gummy 4.4.4, the MMS messages won't work, not even on wifi. I still have mobile data turned off and I'm worried that turning it on will be the only solution to this problem.
Anyone have an idea?
Gummy is really the only ROM I've used so far. I'm still a noob to the whole rooting/flashing thing. I'd love to flash to Lollipop, but I'm still waiting on the camera issue to be solved. I need the camera on my phone for work.
Thanks in advance for any help.
You need the MMS settings fixed, easiest is to use a third party text app like goSMS or textra and manually put in your MMS settings

in 5.0 camera works as long as you use third party cameras like Open camera....but you would have to use another third party app for video i forget which one tho since I'm not really taking videos at the moment....and flash different 4.4.2-4.4.4 AOSP roms to see if the problem is still there...
