Hey guys,
Just made the switch from iPhone to my first droid, the HTC One. Great phone so far and now I am looking to get a good car mount for it. I am hoping that some of you have some experiences with them and can recommend a quality/affordable one to me. I am OK with either windshield, dash or vent mount (least preferable), and would ideally like one that can hold a cable in some way so that I can easily plug it in to my device each time. Another must is that it can hold my phone with a case on it, the UAG Outland case.
I have never actually owned a car mount for my phone before so perhaps I am overlooking some other critical information and if so just let me know.
Any help is greatly recommended!

I originally purchased the fixed with charger option, but switched to the adjustable since I ended up with a case for the phone.
The drawback is you have to buy a mounting plate which adds to the upfront costs. FWIW, I've re-used the mounting plate for the past 3 phones I've had.
yes Proclips are the best, this is all I've been using on my last 4 cars
I helped fund this project. They ship out in July, it looks like the perfect solution for mounting a phone or small tablet. I plan to use this with the One with a case, you can adhere the magnet to the inside of a case, and my nekkid Nexus 7.

I found original HTC car dock for One to be very convenient :
- phone easily slides in and out ( one hand )
- good "in the car" application is launched when you put the phone in, automatically closes when you take it out
- the application is now customizable - you can set it to launch your favorite GPS navigation if you wish
- voice input and TTS output
I personally don't even consider any alternatives...
Thanks for all the help guys. I have decided to switch back to my iPhone as the One's battery life is just atrocious for me, so no more suggestions are needed.
Thanks again!

Comes with a mount for a bike AND a car. Leave the mounts and move the clip from bike to car. Would work for virtually any phone so you're not buying a new mount every time you switch phones. Holds the phone very tight.
I have that mount too.
I personally hate it.
And why is that?

The main reason is because the long arm produces tons of vibration
This is the one I have. And I love it. Works great with almost any newer phone too.

I had a mount similar to that, using the vent and the damn thing gotten loose after a while so that the Evo would face left or right depending in the turns I would be making in the car.
The pro clip looks interesting but can one use it with otterbox?

Not much can be used with an otterbox. Also the one I posted isn't a vent mount. I put mine on the windshield.

I did this when I first got my Evo in June and the same set-up is still working lovely.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=774708
I'll be carrying this over to my next phone (Evo 3D) as it is truly universal for any phone. All I would need is a cheap case that the phone clips onto, stick some new velcro onto it and I'd be done.
I absolutely love it.
Ive been using a griffin mount designed for the Iphone, one arm on top, two on the bottom the one that expands or contracts to hold Ipod touch through Iphones.
Fits an Evo stock w/ no case. Fits an Evo w/ a Seido case (not extended battery) by removing the rubber cups in the bottom arms.
I personally just got a universal mount that clips to the air vents for $3, love it.

Someone posted about this when the Evo first came out. I have had it forever with the heat of Florida not effecting it.
The only downside is sticking a little tab to the back of the phone, but it sticks nicely to a case. If you buy it you may want to consider some extra tabs. Amazon doesn't sell those you have to buy them through wired for less.
Any news on Brodit holders for the Galaxy S2?
Can't seem to find anything on DSL Developments (who I normally use). Timescales? or are we still looking at weeks yet. Might have to find a temporary alternative in the short term.
Why not email [email protected]? They are usually very helpful.

I'm using the passive HTC HD2 cradle. It's fits perfect at the bottom but a little bit of movement at the top where the phone is thinner. It's not loose enough it rattles or moves when you touch the screen. Volume and power buttons aren't blocked.
Might be easier and cheaper to find a used or new HD2 holder.
There may even be enough space to add a very thin skin, which is what I'll add if I can find a nice one.
Thanks will look into it.

Great to know, I currently have a HD2 with Brodit passive holder, and will receive my Galaxy S II tomorrow
I'll see if it's the same for me too...
I have an adjustable iPhone 3GS passive Brodit mount (it expands to use with gel type cases). I have a cheapo gel case on my SGII and it works fine, solid as a rock.

Okay so here's what I've done: on each side of my passive holder, I've put a few centimeters of black adhesive tape. It's the kind of heavy one, which you can buy in a hardware store...
Now the Galaxy S 2 is completely stable in a HD2 Brodit passive holder!

Just to let you know, on Friday dsldevelopments has shipped my brodit passive holder, I should get it this week
I installed my Brodit SII-holder last Saturday. Fits perfectly. I had it pre-ordered to be one of the first to have it
I have the passive one, I use separate wires for power-in and audio-out.
I have decided to use it with a Kuda console, because that looks better in my car.
Now all I need to do is fill my SD-card with audio and I can enjoy my car-rides even better

I'm looking for a good quality windshield mount as well. I was using this Kensington mount with my Evo and it worked really well, but it doesn't open wide enough to hold the GS3. $3.99 sounds suspiciously cheap...
4 bucks free shipping, sounds to cheap to me.
I am also looking for a car mount. I am coming from a Droid X and liked that the power cord could be just left in the dock and the phone connected to the dock. My wife has a Razr MAXX which has the same feature. I was looking for a mount like it for my S3 but haven't seen any like it.

Stay away from the bendable style mounts. I had a universal similar to that and it would bounce around so much while driving. Makes it hard to see directions in nav.

Agree. And we don't mean inexpensive (although it is that too), we mean CHEAP (as in quality).

I picked up one of the Infuse mounts for the S3 off eBay. My only concern is since the corners are a different shape the mount presses fairly firmly on the phone in those localized spots. Yes, the phone is very secure but I'm worried that over time the rubbing will begin to mar the phone.
I like the look of the Slipgrip mount but have always been concerned about a particular aspect of windshield mounting: how does the phone hold up to 2 hours of driving in the midday sun?

I returned mine already. I felt it was to tight to snap in.
I think I will just find a generic one.
Not much available specific to the S3.
I have the exo gear mount and its awesome. I would give it a try if I were you. You can get it off of amazon so if you don't like it you can return it.
exo gear exomount is awesome..so simple and it just works...im getting another one.
I've been searching high and low for a non-generic car mount/dock and I think I might have found something that will work. I just ordered the Motorola Atrix HD dock from amazon.
(link blocked)
Dimensions seem right..
Atrix; 5.26 x 2.75 x .33
Sprint Optimus G 5.19 x 2.71 x .33
I'll report back in two days when it gets here.
Hopes this helps....has anyone else found anything else that will work?
I have the 2011 model of the Sprint Universal Mount. With the Otterbox, this thing BARELY fits. But it still works very nicely
2012 model link is here
Yeah....saw that, and looked at a number of the "universal" mounts, but really wanted something that I could truly "dock" my phone into. I'm in and out of my car a lot during the day and don't want to hassle with plugging in the power cord each and every time. Thanks for the input.
NEGATIVE on the MOTOROLA ATRIX HD case....usb doesn't line up. darn.
Tetrax
Is anybody using any of the Tetrax mounts with the LGOG? (The system is preventing me from posting the hyperlink to the Tetrax site here, but it is tetrax.com.) I love their simplicity but am not sure I want to paste a disk to the back of my phone. If you have done this, can you comment on how you like it? Thanks.
Here is a good looking car mount for the LGOG.

If you don't need to have the phone charger automatically plugged in, I highly recommend this mount. You've never known convenience until you've put the phone in and take it off with only one hand :fingers-crossed:. Not to mention the it will stick to your car's dash (hard plastic parts preferred, as it will leave an indentation on soft plastic)

Yes I am using it right now, with this case, it fits fine with just a little bit of wiggle room to spare. For sure the Galaxy Note one will fit if you plan on getting a thick case like otterbox, but it might be too wide if you decided to go without a case?

That's what I had previously with my old phone. Unfortunately it doesn't work with the OG with case on. Plus the arm is too long which cause a lot of vibration when driving.
Clingo
I have the clingo and it works great with the otter commuter case
Had the Clingo too, bought it when it first came out. It worked well at the beginning, but after a few months in the summer heat (Southern California) the gel starts to degrade and start to leave a sticky residue on the back of my phone case. Got a replacement gel pad from Clingo, same thing happen by the next summer.
Yes, I've tried a lot of car mount options. Still looking for the perfect one (that doesn't cost something ridiculous like $80)
Here is the best I've found...
Brackretron
Takes some mounting and such, but definitely the best finished product...
ProClip Universal
I'm thinking of ordering one from ProClipUSA. [sorry, I'm too nube to be allowed to post a link...] In the past I've used their mounts for my old Garmin Nuvi and later for my HTC EVO 4G (the WiMax model).
Unlike those mounts, which were excellent and solid as hell, the two available are not full custom for the Optimus. And I really loved that my EVO's mount also provided power when it was docked. I rarely bothered explicitly wall charging the EVO as it always got topped off during the office commutes.
Still... with a few tweaks for the Optimus' dimensions it might be enough for a secure mount. For long trips it looks like I should be able to power it with the car 12V charger from the bottom opening.
This is what I have and it is the best mount I have ever used. Iotte easy flex 2
